Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital

If this movie was released 10 years ago, it might be a good movie but now we need something new. This movie is basically a recycling ideas from Grave Encounters, Gonjiam and Incantation. Grave Encounters was quite fresh when it released then comes Gonjiam and Incantation which push further making found footage horror more intense but this movie did not introduce anything new nor fresh. If you've watched all those 3 movies mentioned, you'll be able to predict what will happen on the next scene.

The best part of the movie was how confused my "Alexa" got while I was watching it. While I've seen far worse, like "Devon", this movie features paper-thin characters, which could also be said for the original GONJIAM. But something about that original film felt more engrossing than this one. We know nothing about these people, like if they have any personal struggles or unique character traits. In the first half, I felt myself suspecting that the "scared" characters were about to reveal that they were just putting on a show, then... turns out they were actually supposed to be acting scared. The movie was ultimately just okay...

To be honest, the visual effects and horror design feel very outdated, almost like something you would expect to see ten years ago. In 2025, that makes it difficult for this film to stand out among stronger competitors in the genre. However, I have to give credit to the cast, who delivered solid performances, and to the director, who gave the characters diverse and believable personalities. If you approach this movie simply as light entertainment rather than expecting groundbreaking horror, it actually works fairly well and isn't such a bad watch.

This is a Filipino remake of the South Korean horror film Gonjiam Haunted Asylum and as a fan of the original, I didn't expect much from this remake. However, it was surprisingly good! It stayed true to the original plot, but it didn't flesh out the story as well as the original. The characters were likeable and some were a little annoying, which is part and parcel for a horror movie. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be, but it's not as good as Gonjiam. It's still worth the watch if you're a fan of found footage films or haunted house type films.

I really enjoyed it! It's a found footage so obviously I was going to watch it!!! It's well done, it hits in the right spot, it's got the good amount of jump scares and creepy frights, and who doesn't love a haunted abandoned hospital? Is it the best movie in the world? No. But is it a fun scary movie to watch on movie night? Absolutely!!!!
