A Sharp, Hilarious, and Surprisingly Deep Character-Driven Comedy

Good News is one of the most fun movies I've seen in a while. I laughed a lot, especially in the beginning. The pacing is so well handled that I completely forgot it's over two hours long.

It's even more interesting if you know a bit about 1970s Japan, like the student riots and the classic manga Ashita no Joe. It's well-known that protesting students carried Ashita no Joe in one hand and a book on Marxism in the other.

Both the Korean and Japanese actors did their parts so well. The characters are the heart of this movie - everyone, from pilots and hijackers to soldiers and officials, stands out in their own way and feels memorable.

I highly recommend Good News to anyone who enjoys character-based comedies. Even if you're not familiar with the historical or political background - you might have a few "huh?" moments, but you'll still have a great time watching it.

    A good time

Good news is a pretty good film. Set i 1970 a plane is hijacked carrying japanese nationals by a group of amatures that want it flown to north korea. This is where Sul Kyung-gu steps in as no body and hatches a plan along with some pilots and authorities to make them believe they have landed in north when really they are going to the south; this movie is based on a real event but its saterised and I found some pretty fun moments in this and a strong acted cast; the way in which this film is shot reminded me of a wes anderson movie and that added another layer to this.

    It's a 10-star performance!

As I was expecting a typical thriller about a plane hijacking, I was instead met with an impressive cinematic language that tells the story through masterful use of black humour.

It's common to see traces of influence among leading directors, but Byun Sung-hyun's film stands out as truly unique. I watched it with full appreciation from beginning to end.

The acting is five-star across the board. The performances of Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryu Seung-beom are especially remarkable. Just a small suggestion - although it's not the filmmakers' fault, the IMDb crew list should be better prepared with names and photos, as Western audiences are often unfamiliar with Korean or Japanese names. These artists truly deserve wider recognition.

I'm very pleased to have watched this movie. Thank you!

    Crazy and unpredictable

The film tells the story of when hijackers seize a Japanese commercial flight and demand to fly to Pyongyang. A mysterious mastermind devises a bizarre plan to divert the plane to Seoul. The lead actor is well-acted and excellently comedic, and the soldier character is the best in my opinion. He delivers one of the best absurd scenes. This film is one of the best-edited films of the last five years. Good News is definitely one of the best films of 2025.

    My thoughts

The movie Good News left a deep impression on me because it is not only entertaining but also meaningful on a deeper level. At first glance, it seems like a simple and light-hearted story, but as the plot develops, it becomes clear that the film hides a much more serious message about society, trust, and human nature. My overall opinion about this movie is that it is truly a well-made work of art that reflects the unseen side of our modern world.

What I found most fascinating was how the movie revealed the darker aspects of people's lives that we usually do not notice. It shows that behind the smiling faces and beautiful appearances, there can be lies, pain, and corruption. The film reminds us that not everything we see can be trusted. Sometimes the truth is hidden under layers of deception, and the director successfully expresses this idea through powerful storytelling, emotional acting, and realistic situations. The characters were very believable, and their experiences felt real, which made me think about how similar situations could happen in real life.

Another thing I appreciated about Good News is how it makes the audience reflect on themselves and the world around them. It teaches an important lesson about not judging others too quickly and being aware that reality is often more complicated than it appears. The background music, camera angles, and emotional scenes also helped to build a strong atmosphere that kept me focused throughout the movie.

In conclusion, Good News is not just a film to watch for fun; it is a meaningful piece of art that encourages people to think critically about society, trust, and human behavior. I believe it deserves high praise for its creativity, emotional depth, and strong moral message. It is a movie that stays in your mind long after you finish watching it.
