Marvel Studios has adapted many characters from the comics, no matter how minor or strange. From Doctor Strange to the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, it appears that no character was too difficult for Marvel to pull off into making a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Yet one title has been a struggle — Blade. First announced at Comic-Con 2019, the movie has had more than three different release dates, with giving up its November 7, 2025, release date. As of this writing, there is no word on if or even when Blade will open in theaters, and it is approaching six years since the movie was first announced. For reference, that is the same amount of time from when Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Iron Man to the release of The Avengers.
The movie's delays have been cited as due to a number of issues behind the scenes, including changes to the script and a director change.

The Predator prequel Prey was originally released as a Hulu original film, but it will soon have a new streaming home with a different network. It will be available on Peacock on April 1.
Prey's arrival on Peacock comes shortly after the film's star, Amber Midthunder, gave an exciting update about a planned sequel. While she didn't reveal any information about when production might begin, she shared her excitement about returning to the world of the Predator franchise. "I would be happy to do another one. I love [Prey director] Dan Trachtenberg with my whole heart," she said. "I love that world, I love that character, and I think that there's some fun ideas out there that I've heard that are very cool. I'm really excited."
Discussions about a sequel to Prey began shortly after the film's successful release in 2022. While Prey 2 is reportedly in development, it doesn't seem...

Three years have passed since the Hulu streaming service release of Prey, the latest entry in the Predator franchise – and while the film’s director, Dan Trachtenberg, has gone on to make two more Predator movies that are going to be released this year, Prey star Amber Midthunder still doesn’t know if there’s going to be a Prey sequel or not.
Directed by Trachtenberg from a screenplay by Patrick Aison, Prey has the following synopsis: Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal,...

Prey star Amber Midthunder wants to return to the Predatorfranchise but can't tell fans precisely if and when that will happen. Prey debuted on Hulu in August 2022 and blew fans away by giving a new spin on the Predator franchise by placing it in the 1700s and having the iconic alien face off against a young Comanche woman. Midthunder played Naru, a woman who proves to her tribe she is one of their greatest warriors by slaying the mighty Predator. Prey's end credits teased the arrival of more Predators, opening the door for sequels, yet it has been nearly three years with no follow-up.
While promoting her latest film, Novocain, Midthunder spoke with Collider about wanting to reprise her role as Naru in a future Prey sequel. It seems like director Dan Trachtenberg is fully committed to the next entry in the franchise, Predator: Badlands, leaving the fate of...

[This story contains spoilers for Novocaine.]
In 2022, Amber Midthunder upstaged one of cinema’s most imposing villains in the Predator franchise prequel, Prey. Her performance as a coming-of-age Comanche warrior named Naru was widely hailed as revelatory, and she’s been so booked and busy since then that she had two theatrical releases debut this past weekend in Novocaine and Opus. The former, which was co-directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen for Paramount, is now the number-one film at the domestic box office.
Midthunder stars opposite Jack Quaid in Berk and Olsen’s action-comedy, something the two actors had been aiming to do for some time now. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg also directed Quaid in the pilot of his hit show, The Boys, so the filmmaker incepted the idea of collaboration into both of his actors’ brains. In Novocaine, Midthunder’s bank teller character, Sherry, initiates a dessert lunch date with Quaid’s Nate Caine,...

Prey 2 gets a new update from Amber Midthunder three years after the last Predator movie was released. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and released in 2022, Prey marks the fifth film in the long-running franchise. Midthunder takes on the role of Comanche warrior Naru in the film, which chronicles the first Predator's arrival on Earth back in 1719. The film was met with a very positive reception from audiences and critics alike, and it was a viewership hit on Hulu. This led to confirmation of a Prey 2 in early 2024.
In a recent interview with Collider, Midthunder is asked about the status of Prey 2. While the actor says that she's not in the loop about what's going on with the sequel, she does tease that she's heard some "fun ideas" about the movie. Midthunder also expresses enthusiasm about returning as Naru and working with Trachtenberg once more. Check out her comment below:

The Predator prequel Prey was a big success when it was given a straight-to-streaming release on Hulu in 2022. After three years, star Amber Midthunder still isn't quite sure when the planned sequel may get moving, but she's ready to be there as soon as director Dan Trachtenberg gives her the call.
In the past, Trachtenberg and Midthunder have both confirmed their shared desire to give Prey a direct sequel. However, the director wanted to first pivot by pursuing Predator: Badlands, another standalone film set in the franchise that would focus on a different location, time period, and cast of characters. Speaking with Collider about what's happening with Prey 2, Midthunder confirmed she has yet to hear when production might begin, but she's "really excited" to see Badlands in the meantime.

As the saying goes, one door closes and another opens, and former Warner Bros International Distribution Chief Andrew Cripps, who recently exited that studio, is driving down the street to Walt Disney Studios as their new Head of Theatrical Distribution. The three-decades-plus international distribution exec starts the job immediately.
Cripps replaces Tony Chambers, who was recently named President, The Walt Disney Company, Emea, after rallying Disney to north of $5 billion at the global box office.
We understand that Cripps’ segue to Disney happens to be fortuitous timing: The exec didn’t have the job offer in hand when he exited Warners. The announcement of Chambers’ transition from the theatrical distribution role occurred on Jan. 7 while Cripps and Global Marketing Boss Josh Goldstine were shown the door at Warners on Jan. 8.
Cripps will report to Cathleen Taff, President of Production, Franchise Management and Theatrical Distribution at Disney Entertainment – Studios.

The Predator franchise recently received a huge shot to the arm in 2023 with the arrival of Prey, Dan Trachtenberg’s incredible prequel to the 1987 original that refreshed and revived the sci-fi action franchise, and for many even surpassed the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger movie in several ways. Now, audiences are reminding themselves of how Arnie tried, and failed, to get everyone to the chopper almost 40 years ago, and have made the original film an apex predator of Tubi's free streaming chart.
Directed by John McTiernan—who would later helm Die Hard—Predator stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer, leading an elite Special Forces team on a covert rescue mission in Central America – well didn’t he always. What should have been a routine operation soon spirals into a bloody and desperate battle for survival when the group find themselves under attack from an invisible and deadly hunter unlike anything they have encountered before.

Disney already has the perfect property to rival the blockbuster monster-movie crossovers of Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse — and it’ll be completely its own thing. The Monsterverse originated as a standalone American reboot of the Godzilla franchise back in 2014. That movie was a big success, so a series of sequels and spinoffs were developed to introduce other classic monsters like Kong, Rodan, and King Ghidorah in that same shared cinematic universe. The Monsterverse, like The Conjuring Universe, has since gone on to become one of the highest-grossing cinematic universes not bearing the ol’ reliable Marvel brand.
For more than a decade now, the Monsterverse has dominated the monster movie market. Audiences love Godzilla and they love Kong, so they turn up in droves when a Monsterverse movie either pits Godzilla and Kong against each other or teams them up to fight a common enemy. Since it has two of the biggest movie monsters sharing the screen,...

Disney has reached a significant box office milestone, becoming the only studio to pass $2 billion in box office ticket sales for 2024. After a historically bad year in 2023, when Disney saw historic box office flops from The Marvels, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Haunted Mansion, the studio had an incredible comeback. Thanks to the likes of Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Moana 2, along with 20th Century Studios films Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Alien: Romulus, Disney has passed a major box office milestone right as 2024 comes to a close.
Deadline reports that Disney is the only major studio to cross the $2 billion threshold at the domestic box office, with totals brought in from Walt Disney Pictures, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures. This is the seventh time Disney has passed this milestone since 2010. It is also the second time that the studio...

January will be a great time to be a fan of Predator. The latest installment of the movie series, Prey, is going to be made available to watch for free first thing next year.
Per Tubi, it's been revealed that Prey will hit the free streaming platform on Jan. 1, 2025. This comes after the movie's original release on Hulu in 2022. The movie found big success upon release, garnering high viewership along with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score. Despite this success, there are still many Predator fans who have never subscribed to Hulu and have yet to finally check out the film. For them, Tubi will make it easier than ever by streaming it for free, while those who've watched it previously can also revisit the film if they are not currently subscribed to Hulu.

The Predator franchise is roaring back with not one, but two new films set to release in 2025. Following the success of Prey in 2022, director Dan Trachtenberg returns to helm both projects, including the hotly anticipated Predator: Badlands, slated for a cinematic debut on 7 November 2025. The second project, shrouded in mystery, is expected to arrive earlier in the year and may land on a streaming platform.
20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell revealed the plans in a recent interview, explaining that Trachtenberg opted not to create a direct sequel to Prey, choosing instead to explore fresh ideas. “Dan rattled off a bunch of concepts that were really crazy but really cool,” said Asbell. “We’ve actually done two of them.”
While Predator: Badlands is the only officially announced project, speculation swirls about the second film, which could delve into uncharted territory for the franchise. Asbell hinted at more ambitious developments, teasing...

It goes without saying that the original Predator is one of the greatest action films ever made, as it proved John McTiernan’s merit as a filmmaker and secured Arnold Schwarzenegger’s status as the definitive action movie star of his generation. Although these key collaborators would never work on another Predator film ever again, the franchise managed to continue with several sequels, a prequel, and two crossovers with the Alien franchise. 2025 is set to be a big year for Predator fans, as director Dan Trachtenberg revealed that there will be an animated film, as well as a new live-action installment titled Predator: Badlands, which takes place on an alien planet. Trachtenberg certainly proved his merit with the excellent Hulu prequel Prey, but Predator: Badlands is set to be the first installment in the series told from the creature’s point of view.

Elle Fanning's role in Predator: Badlands just got even more demanding... that's because she's actually playing multiple characters in the movie. Following the success of 2022's Prey, director Dan Trachtenberg is returning to the Predator franchise. However, before he makes the confirmed Prey 2, Trachtenberg decided to direct the upcoming Predator: Badlands. Unlike Prey, Badlands will take place in the future, and Trachtenberg seems to have several other unique ideas for the movie.
While most of the Predator movies have been set on Earth, Predator: Badlands will take place on an alien planet, and will actually feature the Predator itself as the protagonist, instead of a human character. Trachtenberg already revolutionized the franchise with Prey, and the aforementioned creative decisions prove that Predator: Badlands could also be one of the most unique movies in the series. Following the runaway success of the legacy prequel Prey, Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands is set to take on a seemingly obvious story angle that has never been attempted in the movie franchise. Set 300 years in the past in the Great Plains, Prey revitalized the entire Predator franchise, and opened the door for several more projects to be put into development. While other movies, like the sequel to Prey itself, have only been announced, casting and plot details are already coming out about Predator: Badlands.
Predator: Badlands will be set on an alien planet in the future, which means the Predator franchise will continue a 37-year-old trend by not having any characters return from the previous film. While Elle Fanning has been revealed as one of the movie's stars (who will be playing multiple characters), she will apparently not be the primary focus of the movie. In fact, Trachtenberg intends...

Hulu’s “Prey” was one of the biggest surprises of 2022. The film was not only a solid “Predator” spinoff, but it was actually one of the better films of that year. That means there is a lot of anticipation regarding the next film in the franchise, “Predator: Badlands.” But even with all the anticipation, there’s one thing no one predicted—the Predator is the protagonist.

Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands promises to rewrite the rules of what a Predator film can be. More here.
Quick warning: strikes us there’s a mild-ish spoiler in here, that’s already all over the internet, but just in case you wanted to steer clear.
When Dan Trachtenberg released the Predator film Prey into the world in 2022, the film significantly broadened the horizons of what a Predator film could be. It wasn’t the first entry in the series to try such a thing (2010’s Predators made an admirable attempt) but it was probably the most successful.
With next year’s Predator: Badlands on the way, we’ve already been told to expect a film with ideas that are “really crazy but really cool” and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Trachtenberg isn’t content to simply repeat the trick of creating Predator sequels that jump around to interesting points in history.

Something wild just came out of the mouth of director Dan Trachtenberg, the man currently working on the next Predator film. This will be the follow-up to Prey, which Trachtenberg also directed and is regarded as the film that revitalized the franchise. Prey took chances by changing the setting to the past, focusing on a Native American warrior who must find a way to take out the deadliest hunter species in the known universe And a colony of French settlers at the same time. Those chances took off and Prey ranks in the top three of fans’ favorite Predator films. So when crafting Predator: Badlands, Trachtenberg wants to take similar leaps and go places no one’s gone. This time that means the main character won’t be a human battling the Predator, but the Predator itself! “The creature is front and center, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg said to Empire in an interview.

Pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. We just got our biggest update yet about Predator: Badlands, the upcoming installment in the Predator franchise from Prey director Dan Trachtenberg, and it is a doozy. We've been reporting on the Elle Fanning-led film for a while now, but nothing could have predicted the bombshell that Trachtenberg revealed today in an exclusive interview with Empire.
It turns out, Elle Fanning isn't the hero of the next Predator movie at all. The Predator is.
“The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg explained. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.”
Trachtenberg explained that the idea to have the Predator serve as the lead of the new movie arose from a desire to “find another...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, 20th Century Studios has won rights to Test Drive, an original action spec from Matt Venne, to be produced by Safehouse Pictures.
While plot details are under wraps, sources said Venne secured a healthy mid-six against seven figure deal for his script. The spec had no talent or director attachments and caused a stir on the back of its concept and writing alone, in a scenario not too commonly seen these days.
Director of Development of Safehouse, Austin Bowman, found the spec. We’re told Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will produce.
Currently staffing on Showtime’s Dexter spin-off series Dexter: Resurrection, Venne is a prolific genre writer who previously adapted Stephen King’s Bag of Bones as a limited series for A&e. He sold his series Cruel Summer, based on the same-name novel, to Legendary TV, with David Goyer boarding to produce, and also...

Prey brought prestige back to the Predator franchise after audiences directed their attention towards other movie monsters. And Dan Trachtenberg is ready to return to the galaxy that hosts the Yautja. Empire Magazine has released a new behind-the-scenes image from Predator: Badlands. The sequel will bring the franchise back to the big screen, with the movie currently scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United States on November 7, 2025. The spot on the calendar was previously reserved for Blade. But considering how the superhero adventure starring Mahershala Ali has gone through some delays, Disney decided to send the Predator back to multiplexes.

Elle Fanning is known for being a chameleon actress, but for the upcoming “Predator” franchise installment “Predator: Badlands,” the star had to transform into multiple roles.
Director Dan Trachtenberg told Empire that Fanning was pushed “dramatically, physically, [and] logistically” during production.
“She faced intense challenges on this movie — dramatically, physically, logistically,” Trachtenberg said.
While the details of “Predator: Badlands” are still under wraps, we do know that Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison were behind the story for “Badlands,” with Aison penning the screenplay. The feature will be released by 20th Century Studios and is set in the future.
Trachtenberg previously directed “Predator” prequel “Prey,” which debuted on Hulu. “Prey” took place in 1719 and followed an Indigenous woman (Amber Midthunder) who fought for survival against alien invaders.
Trachtenberg told Empire that “Predator: Badlands” will instead have the alien creature “front and center, leading the charge” for the follow-up.

Back in February, it was announced that Prey director Dan Trachtenberg would become the first filmmaker to take the helm of two films in the Predator franchise, as he was moving ahead with a new Predator film titled Badlands, working from a screenplay by Prey screenwriter Patrick Aison (based on a story crafted by Trachtenberg himself), with filming expected to begin this summer. In June, it was revealed that Super 8‘s Elle Fanning had been cast in the film. Predator: Badlands has since gone into production in New Zealand – and during a conversation with Empire, Trachtenberg revealed that the Predator is the protagonist in this movie!
According to a casting call, Predator: Badlands has the following synopsis: A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions.

Director Dan Trachtenberg completely reinvented the "Predator" franchise in 2022 with the release of his much-acclaimed prequel "Prey." The film took the series back decades to pit a Comanche against the famed cinematic alien hunter with thrilling results. So, how does one follow up such a refreshing reinvention of a long-running saga? By doing it again in an entirely new way.
Next year will see the release of "Predator: Badlands," which is getting a theatrical release rather than being dumped straight to Hulu like "Prey." In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Trachtenberg, who returns to the director's chair, dished some intriguing details about the film, which will be set in the future rather than the past. Predator: Badlands director Dan Trachtenberg reveals that his upcoming movie features a franchise first in terms of its protagonist, and a first-look image is shared. The Predator franchise will return to the big screen in November 2025 with Dan Trachtenberg’s (10 Cloverfield Lane) Predator: Badlands, with Elle Fanning starring in a brand new story. Speaking with Empire, Trachtenberg has dropped one hell of an exciting tease.
The main protagonist of the upcoming Predator: Badlands? A Predator!
“The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg tells Empire. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.”
Like with Prey, Trachtenberg’s goal with Predator: Badlands was to “push the franchise’s boundaries,” allowing fans the opportunity to root for the Predator this time around.
Empire also notes in the sneak preview piece today, which additionally includes a behind the scenes shot from Badlands (below), that the film takes place entirely on an alien planet.

We finally have our first look at the next chapter in the beloved Predator sci-fi action series, Predator: Badlands. The latest installment, which is expected to be a standalone outing similar to the hit 2022 movie Prey, is all set to be directed by Preys Dan Trachtenberg, with The Great and A Complete Unknown star Elle Fanning on board to lead. Alongside the first look, a new report by Empire reveals that the movie will make a major change to the franchise: make the Predator the hero of the story. See what Trachtenberg had to say below:

The Predator franchise has, over the years, given us all kinds of heroes. We got Arnie’s rippling muscles in the original; Danny Glover’s LA cop in the sequel; a gaggle of reprobates in Predators; and, most recently, Amber Midthunder’s Comanche warrior Naru in Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey. But for his next Predator outing, Trachtenberg has something very different planned. 2025 will see the release of Predator: Badlands (as well as another film in the franchise that he shot simultaneously in secret), which isn’t exactly a follow-up to Prey but a future-set tale taking place on an alien planet. And, most importantly, it brings a very different kind of Predator protagonist: the Predator itself.
