It will take me a long time to get over the fact that there will probably be no season 2 of this show. I laughed to tears. The plot may seem like nothing new and a bit ordinary, but with the blend of Spanish humor it is taken to another level. I simply lived Luis Zahera's performance. Big thumbs up to everyone who worked on the show.
I love the brilliant Luis Zahera in everything so that alone was enough for me to check out this series about a down-on-his-luck rural Vet who is forced to work as the resident Vet in his young niece's large pet store.
His disdain for the corporate hard-sell of ridiculous products in the store and the stupidity of some of the pet owners is really funny. His love of animals shines through and his relationship with a local bar owner is well played.
With its quirky soundtrack, the series is a funny and pleasant watch with the brilliant Luis Zahera just perfect in this role.

"Old Dog, New Tricks" is one of those shows that, without making much noise, manages to make you smile. It doesn't try to reinvent anything, but it knows how to find charm in the everyday. Luis Zahera is splendid as a grumpy veterinarian with a good heart, balancing tenderness and Galician wit in a way only he can. His chemistry with Lucía Caraballo carries much of the story, even if the script doesn't always match the strength of their performances.
The series blends slice-of-life storytelling with humor to mixed results. At times it nails natural and funny situations, but in others it leans too heavily on clichés or stretches scenes that don't quite need it. The depiction of Galicia is lovely, with beautiful landscapes and polished cinematography, though there's an outsider's gaze that simplifies more than it captures.
It's not a laugh-out-loud comedy, but one you enjoy for the warmth of its characters. The pacing works, it's easy to watch, and it shines most when focusing on everyday relationships rather than trying to deliver big messages.
Lucía Caraballo does a solid job, though her accent might distract some viewers, and the rest of the cast provides strong support. There's tenderness, gentle humor, and a friendly tone that make Animal genuinely likable despite its ups and downs.
In short, a simple but effective series - the kind you watch with a smile and without expectations. It won't go down in history, but it leaves a pleasant aftertaste and proves that Zahera can turn any character into someone believable and endearing.

I'd never heard of this, never saw it advertised anywhere but stumbled across it by total accident. Wow! Why isn't Netflix recommending me this?
It's genuinely hilarious at times but it also has so much warmth, heart and spirit.
It's made me want to visit Galicia for myself as it seems so beautiful there.
It starts off as a fish out of water story but does have other little side plots going on too.
Each episode is short and snappy and you just want to watch another after another (and I never do that with any program!) The main character is so wonderfully acted and I cannot understand why I've never seen him before. I don't understand Spanish but he's such a good physical comedic actor you don't need to.
Loved it.

A relaxing and very...humane film. Animals are our mirrors.
The series has a reasonable length, you don't get bored.
The humor is quality. The actor in the title role is great. If they don't manage a season 2 as good, the filmmakers can leave the series here, they did their job.
I've seen series by Galician studios, ALL were above average.
