The Electric State Zaps the Competition
Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown teamed up for The Electric State, a sci-fi adventure that just dominated the English films chart with 25.2 million views. Fans worldwide plugged into its retro-futuristic vibe, landing it the top spot in 47 countries. Fun fact: The movie’s neon-drenched robots and dystopian landscapes took over two years to design!

Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham's hard-hitting Netflix crime drama is dominating the streaming service's TV charts. Known for his role as union convenor Hayden Stagg in the beloved BBC period crime drama, the actor made his guest star debut in season 5 before being promoted to the main cast in the sixth and final season. Graham is also known for his appearances in blockbuster franchises, including Pirates of the Caribbean as Scrum, and Venom as symbiote host Patrick Mulligan.
While Graham's career has taken him through the fantasy, sci-fi, and musical genres, he is largely known for his roles in grounded content on television and the big screen. His breakout came through his portrayal of Andrew "Combo" Gascoigne in This Is Englandand earned further recognition for his portrayal of troubled head chef Andy Jones in Boiling Point, reprising both roles when they were expanded into their own television series. Netflix’s ambitious one-shot series Adolescence made some noise on the platform in its debut week, racking up 24.3M views in just a few days.
That put it at No. 1 on the English TV list and, per Netflix, the show was the most-streamed series of the week in 71 countries.
Adolescence in second among all titles on Netflix for March 10 to 16, because Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State eked out the win with 25.2M views. Millie Bobby Brown has been on a hot streak lately with Netflix, marking her third No. 1 film debut on the streamer after Enola Holmes 2 and Damsel.
However, it would have been expected that The Electric State (which is one of the most expensive films ever made with a budget of $320M) would significantly outperform a modest British miniseries with no stars.

Netflix’s latest limited series, Adolescence, made a huge impact in its opening weekend, becoming the most-watched TV show on the platform for the week. The four-episode drama premiered on Thursday, March 13, and quickly drew in 24.3 million views by Sunday, March 16.
The strong debut of Adolescence outperformed several recent Netflix originals. For comparison:
The Night Agent Season 2 premiered with 13.9 million views. Zero Day gathered 19.1 million views in its first week. Running Point had 9.3 million views in its debut.
With such high numbers, Adolescence solidified its place as Netflix’s top English-language TV show of the week. The second most-watched show, Running Point, had only 6 million views, while Zero Day came in third with 4.4 million views.
Even with its impressive success, Adolescence just missed being Netflix’s biggest title of the week overall. That honor went to The Electric State, a sci-fi movie starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, which brought in 25.2 million views.

“Adolescence” debuted as Netflix’s most-watched TV show of the week with an impressive audience for its opening weekend.
After debuting its four hour-long episodes on Thursday, March 13, “Adolescence” scored 24.3 million views through Sunday, March 16, making the limited series the most-watched TV show on Netflix during the week of March 10.
The opening weekend viewership for “Adolescence” outpaced that of other recent Netflix original series, including “The Night Agent” Season 2, which debuted to 13.9 million views, and “Zero Day,” which debuted to 19.1 million views during the week of Feb. 17. Likewise, “Running Point” scored 9.3 million views in its first week on the streamer.

“Adolescence” was by far the most-watched English TV show on Netflix this week, with “Running Point” coming in as the No.

When fans hear that a new ‘9-1-1’ spinoff has been given a straight-to-series order by ABC, I’m sure it’ll be happiness all around.
Sure there’ll be some names that fans will have in their head as to which characters can return to make this spinoff a special one, but the one name I think we can all agree on to appear in the new series is Connie Britton.
Will Connie Britton Lead the New ABC ‘9-1-1’ Spinoff?
Fans would likely recognize Connie Britton for her roles as dispatcher Abigail Clark on the first season of ‘9-1-1’ and country music icon Rayna James in ABC’s ‘Nashville’ from 2012 to 2018.
If you know her, you’d know she’s a shoo-in to appear in Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani’s upcoming ‘9-1-1: Nashville.’ And guess what? The showrunner agrees.

Netflix has already started the year off strong with the premieres of shows like Xo, Kitty season 2, The Night Agent season 2, Zero Day, and more. And while these series' are dramas and brought it in their own individual ways, I think the most dramatic Netflix show you may have missed this year was Beauty in Black season 1 Part 2.
The first eight episodes of the Tyler Perry series debuted in October 2024. But viewers had to wait a few months more to watch the next set of eight to find out what happens after the lead character, Kimmie's, sister is kidnapped. The second half of the season picks up with Kimmie doing whatever it takes to find her. Whether you watched the first part and know what I'm talking about or not, this show is definitely on the much more dramatic side. Like, soap opera dramatic.

At this time last year, few likely had heard of Richard Gadd or Jessica Gunning, and the term “baby reindeer” didn’t immediately call to mind a harrowing exploration of sexual abuse and codependency. Yet, within a month, Baby Reindeer became one of last year’s most widely seen shows, and when the Emmy Awards announced its winners in the limited series and movie categories in September, Gadd, Gunning, and Baby Reindeer won. That’s illustrative of how quickly fortunes can change in the limited series race, which typically resets each season (save for an anthology series like Monsters or Fargo). Ahead, the early 2025 Emmy Awards odds in the movie/limited series categories.

Eric Schultz, a political consultant who worked on Zero Day, discusses whether the attack in the show could happen in real life. The Netflix series begins with a devastating cyberattack on U.S. transportation that results in the deaths of over 3,000 people. Zero Day's main character, former U.S. President George Mullen (Robert De Niro), is given the responsibility of figuring out who was behind the cyberattack and to prevent the perpetrators from delivering on their promise that they will strike again.
During an interview with Variety, Schultz was asked how real the show's premise is and whether a similar attack could actually occur. He confirms that the attack seen in Zero Day could happen in real life and that it is the type of threat that greatly concerns anyone involved with national security. Schultz also mentions how important it is to have government officials who have expertise and integrity,...

Caplan stars in Zero Day, a gripping political thriller, where she plays the daughter of the legendary Robert De Niro, a two-time Academy Award winner. The chance to collaborate with such a revered figure was a big draw for Caplan, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Far from the old adage that warns, “Never meet your heroes. They’ll surely disappoint,” Caplan found the opposite to be true. Her time working with De Niro left her with cherished memories she’ll hold onto forever.

Dan Stevens, the star of films like The Guest, Beauty and the Beast and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, recently appeared in the new political thriller series, Zero Day. In the miniseries starring Robert De Niro, Stevens plays Evan Green, an alternative-media personality who capitalizes on a major terrorist attack and speaks out loud against the government on YouTube. Yes, Green is a fictional version of every loudmouth who makes money in today's digital landscape by criticizing political leaders and creating conspiracy theories out of nothing.
It's not exactly a secret that the character is inspired by a real cultural phenomenon, and Stevens fully agrees with that. In Netflix's Zero Day, the United States faces an unprecedented cyberattack. There are thousands of casualties, and the government forms a commission that will help in finding some answers to prevent another major attack. As former President George Mullen leads the...

Per Tudum, the sports comedy series continues to be popular, and it has thrown its shot and managed to make it to the first spot.
In its first week, Kate Hudson's Running Point debuted in third place with 9.3 million views and 47.2 million hours viewed. It was just behind Robert De Niro's limited series Zero Day and the docuseries American Murder: Gabby Petito. However, it quickly started to gain terrain.

With Love, Meghan has had a lot of press coverage. But the lifestyle series fronted by Meghan Markle struggled in the ratings, only just sneaking into Netflix’s top ten weekly ratings chart.
The eight-part series reached 12.6M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer. This was number ten behind ratings leader Kate Hudson-led comedy Running Point, which had 61.8M hours viewed across the week.
This was significantly down on the ratings for Harry & Meghan, which premiered in December 2022 and became Netflix’s biggest documentary debut ever. That series, which was directed by Liz Garbus, debuted with 81.6M hours viewed in its first three days and adding another 97.7M in its first full week on the service as well as 39.7M in its second full week on Netflix.

Lady in the Lake.It is not quite right to call a point-of-view shot “subjective.”1 As Jean Mitry observes, there is an essential tension in the spectator’s relationship to a filmic point of view: “At the movies I am both in this action and outside it, in this space and outside this space. Having the gift of ubiquity, I am everywhere and nowhere.”2 If subjectivity designates an individual’s embodied movement through the world—structured by goals, obstacles, detours, means—then point-of-view shots only highlight the disjunction between seeing through someone else’s eyes and walking in their shoes. Lady in the Lake (1947) was partly conceived with this equivalence in mind, advertised in trailers as a “revolutionary innovation in film technique,” starring Robert Montgomery and “You!” But if anything, this sustained experiment with a camera that purports to collapse viewer and character only accentuates the gap between a point...

From Homeland to And Just Like That, modern television has made the loudmouth alternative-media personality such a fixture that by now it’s practically a trope.
But few inhabit the role like Dan Stevens in the Netflix political-thriller series Zero Day, which has become a hit for the streamer and star Robert De Niro since its debut last month. Playing the part of popular YouTuber Evan Green, who gets especially vocal after a major terrorist attack, Stevens, 42, emits conspiracism and sanctimony so deftly, you wonder if he’s planning a side career.
Green occupies a seat that ideally should convey news to a thirsty audience. But in a world where “what should be objective fact becomes subjective,” as co-creator Eric Newman recently told The Hollywood Reporter, the character goes the other way. He sows division and even ends up a suspect himself.

How Much Did Robert De Niro Pay To Fix His Teeth After Ruining Them For Cape Fear Role? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Only a few actors have gone to greater lengths for a role than Robert De Niro. The Hollywood legend didn’t just transform his body or learn new skills; he literally ruined his own teeth. It cost a cool $5K to wreck them, then another $20K to fix them.
De Niro went all in for Cape Fear (1991), grinding his teeth down for $5K to perfect Max Cady’s menacing look – then dropping $20K to fix them afterward. That’s dedication but also a costly smile transformation. The transformation didn’t stop at his teeth. De Niro bulked up, hitting the gym to sculpt a terrifyingly muscular frame. You might be aware that Stephen King frequently talks about what he's watching on social media. Be it an enthused snapshot review of a stellar HBO medical drama or the frank confession that he once walked out of a Michael Bay film, King always keeps it a buck. While the author occasionally talks about stuff he doesn't like, the king of horror is mainly known to highlight media that intrigues and excites him, and he seems eager to give credit where it is due. These recommendations are not just limited to films, as King helped spotlight a bunch of television shows last year, and they are all worth checking out. Well, guess what? King's latest series recommendation is a political thriller that's currently streaming on Netflix, and this is what he had to say about it on Threads:
"Watching Zero Day (Netflix): It's old school, but it's terrific. Great Tucker Carlson-type character.

Paradiseand Zero Daymight be two of the biggest new shows on television, and part of that has to do with their respective premises. Paradise, originally billed as a murder mystery revolving around Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), took a sharp turn with its reveal that the events of the series take place after the end of the world. Zero Day features a former president (Robert de Niro) dealing with the fallout of a cyberterrorist attack meant to topple the government. Both shows are also notable for having an ensemble cast packed with talent, leading to different dynamics between characters. With Paradise just finishing up its first season this week and Zero Day dropping its entire run, fans of one or both shows are probably looking for a show that fits a similar mold, and that's where Designated Survivor comes in.

We assumed Kelsey Grammar would be staying on as the McU's Hank McCoy after his post-credits scene cameo in The Marvels, but it seems Marvel Studios is planning to cast a new actor as Beast in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
According to The Hot Mic's Jeff Sneider, Jesse Plemons is in consideration to play Beast in the movie. We're not sure if he's actually met with Marvel about the role or is simply a person of interest, but we can see quite a lot of fans getting behind this particular rumor.
Plemons is just the latest actor to be mentioned in connection with one of the main mutant roles in the film. Harris Dickinson and Jack Champion are reportedly being eyed to play Cyclops, with Stranger Things alum Sadie Sink a likely pick for Jean Grey. We've also heard that The Bear's Ayo Edebiri and DeWanda Wise are on the studio's radar to play Storm.

Scott, who leads Emmy-winning series “Severance,” will star as a widowed crime writer who works with his estranged father, a retired police detective (Robert De Niro), to find his abducted 8-year-old son. The duo soon realize that the case has a connection with a decades-old murder committed by a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” The film is based on Alex North’s New York Times bestselling novel.

This week’s Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report presents an interesting juxtaposition. The Oscars telecast, on Sunday, March 2, was far and away the most-watched linear program of the week, with 13.1 million households tuning in. While that celebration of movies drew massive viewership, the nominated movies themselves were not big draws over on streaming, where many are currently available across a variety of services.
During the weekend of the Oscars, Feb. 28 to March 2, the most-viewed Best Picture nominee was “A Complete Unknown,” was seen in 182,000 households, likely aided by its Feb. 25 launch on VOD. Meanwhile, eventual Best Picture winner “Anora” was seen in 82,000 households, placing it fifth among the nine nominees.
Now, many of these films may have been seen in theatres during their initial release, and some can expect a bump in the weeks to come. But the main story on streaming this week is TV series, which hold eight of the 10 spots.

Legendary's Monsterverse just keeps getting bigger and bigger with each passing movie. Not just in terms of the Titans they add, but with the cast members that join the franchise – the names of which are almost as big as the beasts themselves. Now, another iconic star has joined the new Godzilla x Kong sequel that's currently in the works by director Grant Sputore, which is expected to begin filming in Australia next month.
Per Deadline, Matthew Modine is the newest cast member added to the mix, alongside the already announced Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O'Connell and Delroy Lindo. Dan Stevens will also be returning as the monster veterinarian and dentist Trapper, and while Modine's role has yet to be disclosed, word has it he'll be playing a general in the latest Monsterverse film, which is being written by David Callaham. Plot details remain under wraps, but it is said to feature...

Actor Matthew Modine, known to a generation of fans as Private J.T. “Joker” Davis from Full Metal Jacket (1987) and another generation as Dr. Martin Brenner from Netflix’s hit Stranger Things, has joined Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise.
Per Deadline, Modine has been cast in MonsterVerse director Grant Sputore’s next feature film, which currently remains untitled. The movie serves as the follow-up to Adam Wingard's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Modine's casting follows Stranger Things co-star appearing in previous MonsterVerse films, though she's not expected to be in the next one. The two Stranger Things stars are close, as Modine even officiated Brown's wedding to Jake Bongiovi in 2024.

You should always take a movie’s claims of being “based on a true story” with a grain of salt. Sure, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is technically inspired by the crimes of Ed Gein and the Conjuring franchise more or less follows the Warrens’ case notes, but the fact is that most horror flicks are more interested in providing audiences with a good scare than informing the public about real events.
Of course, that’s not always the case. Over the years, several genre filmmakers have tried their hand at adapting horrific True Crime stories to the big screen without messing too much with the facts. And in honor of these intrepid storytellers, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six True Crime horror movies.
