Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in June
Image
While the Max rebrand back to HBO Max has the streaming world in a tizzy, it’s worth remembering the significance of keeping diverse subscriptions. While “Hacks” and “The Last of Us” wrap up over on that side of your library, the Hulu and Disney bundle is essential for maximizing this summer’s offerings.

Disney+ continues to be the go-to streamer for family friendly viewing options; this month, they’ll add the official “Frozen” Broadway musical to that library, along with Marvel’s “Ironheart,” about Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) who was introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Hulu has everything you need for an “Alien” movie marathon, all to gear up for FX’s “Alien: Earth” which premieres in August. You could also do a “Mamma Mia!” marathon or “Bachelor” binge — we’re not here to judge.

Top Pick: “The Bear” Season 4 (Available on Hulu)

‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ Was Worth The Wait As No. 8 Most Valuable Blockbuster Of 2024
Image
Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament has returned, and as you’ll see from the most profitable films of 2024 that we’re about to disclose, a movie’s game doesn’t end at the box office. Rather, its downstream revenues and subsequent home windows must be taken into account. Streaming continues to be a wildcard: While traditional motion picture studios such as Disney, Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and Universal rely on lucrative pay two and pay three streamer deals to catapult their slates into the black, those streamers who’ve embraced theatrical (specifically Amazon MGM Studios and Apple Original Films) have a clandestine metric as to how they evaluate a movie’s post-cinema success. By traditional studio P&l standards, some of those releases would be considered flops. Given that, Apple and Amazon are excluded from this year’s survey. The Most Valuable Blockbuster series runs later rather than sooner as...

‘A Minecraft Movie’ Slays ‘King Kong’ & Two Kung-Fu Panda Movies To Become Jack Black’s Sixth Biggest Film
Image
After a dubious start to the year, with films such as Mickey 17 and The Alto Knightsunder-performing, Warner Bros. bounced back a couple of weeks ago with A Minecraft Movie. The video game adaptation broke opening weekend records, and recently passed the half-billion mark at the global box office. The big question now is if A Minecraft Movie has enough gas in its tanks to pass the $1 billion mark globally. If it does, it’ll become the second film of stars Jason Momoa and Jack Blackcareers to hit this coveted milestone, after the first Aquamanmovie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, respectively.

Both actors have experience with franchises; Momoa has appeared in the DC Extended Universe, while Black has headlined four Kung Fu Panda films and been a part of two Jumanji blockbusters. A Minecraft Movie is already among his highest-grossing hits, having passed King Kong's $556 million global haul from two decades ago.

Deadline reports that The Angry Birds Movie 3 will be released on Jan. 9, 2027. While the original two films in the franchise were released through Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures is now taking over the distribution of the third entry. Original cast members Jason Sudeikis,...

Electric Jack Black Was Ready to Rock on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Image
Remind me again why Jack Black went nearly 20 years between hosting appearances on Saturday Night Live?

The guy killed it three times in the early aughts but has been pictured on the side of SNL milk cartons ever since, missing in action so that the likes of Jacob Elordi and Halsey could get their turns. It probably has something to do with Black’s late-career turn into kiddie fare — Lorne Michaels likely didn’t see much wow factor in having Black promote Kung Fu Panda 3 or Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle — but last night’s return to SNL proved that Black can still bring it with the best of them. For example, compare any recent SNL monologue to Black’s turbo-fueled, School of Rock-style anthem to kick off last night’s show.

Black is older and heavier than he was 20 years ago, but he’s still bringing the...

‘Ne Zha 2’ At $1.1B In China Through Sunday, Already No. 7 Animated Movie Ever WW; ‘Mufasa’ Nears $700M Global, ‘Paddington In Peru’ Crosses $100M Overseas – International Box Office
Image
Refresh for latest…: As noted throughout the weekend, the big story coming from this international box office frame is the wild performance of Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 and its record-breaking run as it became the first movie to ever gross $1B in a single market. Current Maoyan estimates have the title at Rmb 8B ($1.1B) through today in China.

Based on those figures, the sequel is already the No. 7 animated film ever worldwide. Maoyan has again increased its projection for the full run in China, now forecasting Rmb 12B ($1.65B). These projections tend to fluctuate, but if Ne Zha 2 were to reach that number, it would propel the film to become the No. 2 animated movie ever globally and the No. 11 film overall. Recall, that would be without any input from markets outside China where Ne Zha 2 begins rollout this week, including in the U.S. Watch this space.

Box Office Round-Up: 'Dog Man' Wins Box Office Over 'Companion'
Image
Punxsutawney Phil may have overshadowed the headlines, but it was a pair of newcomers making all the noise at the box office over the weekend. However, it turned out to be No. 1 Dog Man easily outperforming Companion to win the top spot en route to opening the month of February. Director Peter Hastings’ animated superhero comedy made an estimated $36 million domestically, while the new horror rom-com settled for the silver medal with only $9.5 million (per The Numbers).

Companion posted superior numbers on Rotten Tomatoes with both the critics ("Certified Fresh" 94% on the Tomatometer) and fans, whose reactions have already led to the unique horror rom-com being “Verified Hot” on the Popcornmeter (91%), formerly the Rt audience score, against 500+ratings. Meanwhile, Dog Man only registered 76% on the Tomatometer and 86% on the Popcornmeter.

However, fans’ reactions coming right out of the multiplexes corroborated why Dog Man did so well financially over its opening weekend.

Box Office: ‘Dog Man’ Barks Loudly in Near-Record January Opening for an Animated Film, ‘Companion’ Also Impresses
Image
Dog Man barked plenty loud at the domestic box office over the Jan. 31-Feb. 2 weekend, where it easily topped the chart with $35 million in another resounding win for the family marketplace. Its global opening of $40.2 million means it has already recouped the money it cost DreamWorks Animation and Universal to make the Captain Underpants spinoff, excluding marketing.

In North America, it scored the second-biggest January start ever for an animated film behind DreamWorks Animation’s 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3 ($41.28 million), not adjusted for inflation.

The movie, about a man and a cop who must share the same body after something goes horribly awry, is the first kids pic to open since Mufasa: The Lion King at Christmas and Moana 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at Thanksgiving (all these weeks later, all three films remain in the top 10 chart, which is quite a feat). Universal’s PG-rated Wicked has...

‘Dog Man’ Breaks January Box Office Record On Opening Weekend
Image
It wasn't Wolf Man, and it certainly wasn't Better Man, but Dog Man has dominated the January box office. Based on the children's graphic novel of the same name by Dav Pilkey, Dog Man is a spin-off and story within the story of Captain Underpants, which got a DreamWorks Animated movie back in 2017. In a premise that sounds like kids' first body horror, Dog Man sees a dog's face sewn onto a man's body to become a supercop while going up against many different types of villains.

According to Deadline, Dog Man brought an impressive $35.3 million in its opening weekend based on the estimates (final numbers will be recorded Monday morning). This easily gives Dog Man the biggest opening weekend of 2025 so far, beating out the weekend of Jan. 5, 2025, where Mufasa: The Lion King grossed $23 million in its third weekend of release. Dog Man is the second highest-grossing opening for...

If you missed 'Rush Hour 2' before then here is why you should watch now
Image
Rush Hour 2 needs no introduction. When the first movie came out in 1998, no one could have imagined the acclaim and success it would achieve – earning millions at the box office and basically begging for the next part. Usually, nothing exceptional ever comes out of sequels and neither is it expected.

Almost every time, the virgin feeling of the movie concept is absent, the storyline is on a similar pattern, there is no plot mystery and the viewer's feeling for expecting something new is usually not there. It is because, in most cases, the second or third part feels like the continuation of the same idea or maybe something new but on a slightly different tangent. Rush Hour 2 feels just like that. However, it is not implied in any way that the movie is bad – In fact the complete opposite.

You will find watching Rush Hour 2 like coming...

Angelina Jolie’s Golden Globe Nominated Biopic Becomes A Streaming Hit
Image
Angelina Jolie has been a celebrated actor for a number of years. She is famous for both her on and off-screen life, as she was in a high-profile relationship with actor and former Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Brad Pitt for over a decade. Prior to this, Jolie was also known for winning Best Supporting Actress for her acclaimed role in Girl, Interrupted. She was also later nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for the stirring family drama Changeling.

While she had a peak period in the 2000s, Jolie's career has slowed down a bit in recent years. In 2021, she made her MCU movie playing Thena in Eternals, but then did not act in any projects in 2022 or 2023. Her career also saw other feature film gaps. For example, the actor had another three-year gap between her 2016 voice acting role in Kung Fu Panda 3 and her starring role in...

The Wild Robot's $318 Million Box Office Just Gave DreamWorks Its Biggest Year In A Decade
Image
The Wild Robot has helped push DreamWorks' box office past a major record. DreamWorks Animation is a studio that was founded in 1994 by iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. Its first major hit was its second release, 1998's The Prince of Egypt, which grossed $218.6 million against a $60 million budget. Since then, it has had many more hits, launching multiple major animated franchises including Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Trolls, and The Boss Baby. Collectively, DreamWorks movies have grossed more than $17 billion worldwide and earned three Oscar nominations.

DreamWorks' The Wild Robot, which debuted on September 27, was written and directed by Chris Sanders and stars Lupita Nyong'o, Kit Connor, Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames. The Infiltrator Cast & Real-Life Character Guide
Image
Bryan Cranston's 2016 true crime drama film The Infiltrator features an elaborate cast based on real-life characters. Directed by Brad Furman and written by his mother Ellen Furman, The Infiltrator is based on the book of the same name by U.S. Customs Special Agent Robert Mazur, who Cranston plays in the film. Despite receiving mostly positive reviews upon its July 2016 theatrical release, The Infiltrator grossed $22 million at the global box office against an estimated budget of between $28 and $47 million. It ranks number 8 on Netflix's U.S. Top 10 Movies list at the time of writing.

While not typically considered among Bryan Cranston's best movies, The Infiltrator earned a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 72%. The narrative follows a dedicated agent who dives into the grimy underworld of money laundering and blurs the line between duty and deception. Cranston's Robert Mazur goes undercover as a corrupt businessman named Bob Musella who...

The Wild Robot Director & Producer Talk Adapting A Novel & Painting A World
Image
DreamWorks Animation found its biggest hit of the year in The Wild Robot, an animated adaptation of Peter Browns novel by the same name. The movie boasts a star cast led by Lupita Nyongo as Roz, a lone robot in search of her purpose on an island uninhabited by humans. As Roz becomes the caretaker of a young goose (played by Kit Connor), audiences are treated to a story that weaves in themes of found family and nature versus nurture, set against the backdrop of a unique-looking painted world.

Of the many people who helped bring The Wild Robot to theaters, two of the most consequential are producer Jeff Hermann and writer/director Chris Sanders. Hermanns past work as a producer includes Kung Fu Panda 3 and The Boss Baby: Family Business, and Sanders is known in part for his work directing the animated classics How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch.

The Correct Order To Watch The Kung Fu Panda Movies & TV Shows
Image
John Stevenson and Mike Osborne's 2008 film "Kung Fu Panda," on its most basic level, serves as a spoof of a certain type of martial arts film made in Hong Kong in the 1970s. Many of the tropes of martial arts cinema infiltrated American cinemas in the 1990s and 2000s thanks to the stateside releases of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies, the success of the wuxia film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and the constant bolstering of the genre by mega-fan Quentin Tarantino.

By 2008, so many American filmmakers had borrowed from Hong King cinema (including Tarantino himself with his "Kill Bill" movies), that even small children could recreate their tropes and clichés on the playground. Every kid could spot the characters: ancient wizened masters, a team of martial arts monks, and a feisty young comedic hotshot who seems ill-equipped for the asceticism of kung fu, but ultimately proves to be a champion.

Stars: Jack Black, Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Bryan Cranston, James Hong, Ian McShane, Ke Huy Quan, Ronny Chieng, Lori Tan Chinn, Dustin Hoffman | Written by Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, Darren Lemke | Directed by Mike Mitchell, Stephanie Ma Stine

Cuddly Kung Fu master Po the Panda returns to the big screen for a fourth instalment of the animated action comedy franchise, eight years after Kung Fu Panda 3. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that the law of diminishing returns has very much kicked in, because while the film is entirely amiable, it doesn’t quite deliver the same punch, and frequently feels like it’s going through the motions.

The film begins in the Valley of Peace, where Po (Jack Black) is content with his life as the legendary Dragon Warrior, occasionally defeating the odd villain with his sweet kung-fu skills and using his standing in the community to open a tofu-and-noodle shop.

What Went Wrong With Your Honor, Bryan Cranston's First "Rotten" TV Show On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Your Honor fell short of expectations due to lackluster storytelling. Bryan Cranston faced unfair comparisons to Breaking Bad in Your Honor. Your Honor season 2 improved but couldn't secure a third season.

Your Honor was Bryan Cranston's highly anticipated television follow-up to Breaking Bad, but the series did not even come close to matching the latter's quality. After Breaking Bad wrapped, Cranston could seemingly do no wrong, having dedicated 62 episodes and five seasons to one of the greatest television series ever made and making Walter White one of television's most iconic and profound anti-heroes. Cranston starred in a few movies after Breaking Bad ended, such as 2014's Godzilla, 2015's Trumbo, and 2016's Kung Fu Panda 3 and Why Him?, and had a recurring role in Sneaky Pete.

Your Honor was expected to mark Cranston's celebrated return to starring in a television series that had many people calling it Breaking Bad's replacement in a way.
