The film Hide concerns the search for a serial killer and is prompted by some kids fooling around on the sight of an abandoned mental hospital. One kid falls through the ground and discovers someone's torture chamber and some preserved remains in plastic bags.
This looks like the work of someone who tried to abduct Bridget Regan years ago and one of the bodies was of someone who had been abducted after Regan's perpetrator died in prison. Is it a copycat or did they have the wrong guy.
Hide's plot is complex and it is gloomy with an overriding sense of fear and tragedy. I will say that Regan had a stalker who was truly demented and obsessed.
I'm disagreeing with the reviewer who said that the added romantic triangle of lead detective Carla Gugino and two of her assistants Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Kevin Alejandro was superfluous. I think it was needed to lighten things a bit in a very heavy and tragic story.
Still the film could have moved a tad faster, but it's a tale well told.

I had no idea this was a TV movie when I watched it, it was just something I found on Prime and decided to watch because of Carla Gugino and Jay Karnes. Kevin Alejandro being there was a little bonus, though.
The movie itself was alright, but it could have been better with a bigger budget and better production values.
It's a bit of a stock standard Midday Movie detective story about kidnapped, and tortured/murdered, girls with two survivors who look almost identical, not a great deal of darkness to it really - aside from the perp of course - and some pretty solid performances from the main cast.
You could do worse, even if you just watch it for the cast.

This book would have made an amazing movie. Ruining the main character, poor taste. I wont go on because the actors and actresses in this is great but this book was not even comparable. Lisa Gardner deserved wayyy better.
There was a hole
In the middle of the ground
The prettiest hole
That you ever did see
And the green grass grows all around all around
And the green grass grows all around
And in this hole...
For people that read the books that the characters are based on, there is no excuse.
Now for the rest of us, that have no book reference, we get a pretty standard detective formula movie. It does have a few layers. All kinds of people could have done all kinds of despicable deeds. Even the good guys are not kosher in thoughts and deeds. Of course, there is the possibility that it is the last person you would suspect.
This presentation was made for TV and maybe a pilot for a series that never got off the ground.
If you like detective shows this is worth watching.

When new events seem connected to old murders, the police force tries to make the connections. Sergeant warren has reviewed what happened years ago at the old state hospital, but is having trouble finding out how that connects to what is happening today. It's okay. We don't actually see a lot of police work... kicking in doors, showing up just in time, when stuff happens. The supervisor appears to be shagging both of her subordinates. Sounds like a conflict of interest, or ethics, or something. When we do find out what's going on, it's purely by chance. Not through work on the part of the detectives.a lot of talk about the relationships between all the officers. Directed by john gray. Has won several film fest awards.
