Murder in a Small Town just added an Oscar winner to the Season 2 cast, which will boost the show's energy!
One of Fox's nicer surprises in 2024 was Murder in a Small Town. Based on the books by L.R. Wright, the series stars Rossif Sutherland as Karl Alberg, a former big-city cop who moves to the small British Columbia town of Gibsons to become its police chief.
Alberg soon starts a relationship with librarian Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) as he solves a variety of murders and other crimes in the town. The show has had a notable guest star cast that includes Stana Katic, Erica Durance, and others. It was a good success that landed a second-season renewal.

CBS today delivered great news for the fans of some of its biggest scripted series, handing early renewals to all NCIS dramas: flagship NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney; as well as Tracker, Fire Country and Elsbeth, alongside comedies Ghosts, which got a two-season pickup, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. They join previously renewed freshman drama Matlock and the mothership FBI, which has two more seasons on its 3-year deal.
As usual, the news set alarm bells for fans of the series that didn’t make the early renewal list, dramas FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, The Equalizer and yes, the twice-canceled S.W.A.T., as well as veteran comedy The Neighborhood and freshman sitcom Poppa’s House. (It’s too early for new drama Watson which just premiered.)
If history — and simple math — is any indication, it is certain that several of the series that were not picked up today won’t be back next season.

Back in the day, you didn’t need much to make a medical drama that people could relate to.
All you had to do was combine some interesting characters with strange illnesses and hope everything mixed just fine.
Watson doesn’t have it as easy.
(Courtesy of CBS)
TV has come a long way from the likes of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman but even that show had the gimmick of being set in the Wild West.
Thankfully, CBS has been in the medical drama business since the ’50s with City Hospital, one of the first medical procedurals on television.
(Colin Bentley/CBS)
Now that the network has added Watson to its catalog of primetime shows, does the series have enough to offer audiences something fresh?
Well, despite numerous medical dramas about genius doctors who favor knowledge over feelings, none of them had the classic character of Sherlock Holmes’ trusted right-hand man.

Does any major network do wacky show titles as well as CBS? I don't think so. It's the home of such creatively, chaotically named shows as "Jake and the Fatman," "Gary Unmarried," "Joan of Arcadia," "United States of Al," "Syzyszynk," and -- my personal favorite, name-wise -- "God Friended Me." The network's wacky titles go all the way back to TV's golden age, but their schedule still features several weirdly named shows today. Without giving each of them a watch, it's hard to tell your "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage" from your "Bob Hearts Abishola," but one unusually named show made its mark recently with a short but loved two-season run: "So Help Me Todd."
The name of "So Help Me Todd" gives few hints about the show's premise, but it was actually about a flailing private detective ("Pitch Perfect...

CBS, the longtime home of Elementary, is hoping the game is afoot once more with another Sherlock Holmes-inspired procedural drama: Watson, which premiered Sunday after the NFL’s AFC Championship Game. (It’ll settle into its regular time slot on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 9/8c.)
But did the new series from Elementary‘s Craig Sweeny scratch your Holmesian itch, even without Sherlock present? We’ll want to hear what you think in a moment; first, check out a recap of the premiere.

In this golden age of broadcast television, medical procedurals are a dime a dozen, and new ones are released every season.
So, leave it to CBS to revive the classic character Watson and give audiences something ironically refreshing.
It also doesn’t hurt that the network has given viewers the tall drink of water, Morris Chestnut.
(Colin Bentley/CBS)
Making it all the way to the end of the pilot episode certainly had its benefits.
However, despite numerous things that work for Waston, a few ends still need tightening if this show is to become a long-standing series.
Watson Rounds Out Its Cast with Some Truly Interesting, Albeit Odd, Character Choices (Colin Bentley/CBS)
The story itself seems pretty cut and dry. Holmes left Watson a bunch of money so the doctor could return to medicine. It’s all very straightforward, which is exactly what Sherlock Holmes is Not known for.

Immediately following the AFC Championship Game on CBS today (January 26), we’ll be able to see the debut episode of the new TV show drama series Watson.
The new procedural is a Sherlock Holmes spinoff series with an excellent cast! One of the cast members exited another CBS hit – FBI – last year, while another co-starred on the canceled fan fave comedy So Help Me Todd.
The show is set just a few months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty. The show focuses on Dr. John Watson who resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though – Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century. Watson is a medical...

Some cancellations always hurt more than others. It’s usually because they end abruptly, and that was certainly the case for three out of the six CBS shows canceled in 2024.
Three of the shows at least got endings to give us chance to say goodbye to the shows. Then there was another technically canceled show, but CBS opted to reverse the decision. Yes, we’re talking about Swat, and there were certainly other shows on the network that deserved the same.
We’re taking a look back at each of the cancellations of 2024 across the broadcast networks. We start with CBS because honestly I’m still the most salty about one cancellation in particular.

Blue Bloods already ended, but it already has the perfect replacement with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Coming into the new TV cycle, CBS went through a series of cancelations that included even some of its most beloved shows, resulting in So Help Me Todd, NCIS: Hawai'i, and CSI: Vegas getting axed. Prior to those announcements, however, the network already decided to pull the plug on one of its longest-running shows fronted by the Raegan family. Blue Bloods' cancelation remains controversial, with both fans and the people directly involved in the series coming out to oppose the move.
Premiering in 2011, Blue Bloods was no regular cop show. Aside from its procedural aspect, which is already a tried and tested successful TV formula, it puts a family of public servants at the center of its narrative. Blue Bloods also boasts a stacked cast, spearheaded by Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bridget Moynahan.

2024 was a rough year to be a CBS fan. While CBS is typically one of the networks with the best renewal rates, the network was forced to make a lot of difficult decisions this year which led to the cancellations of many amazing series including some of the network’s biggest shows.

Of course, of the seven shows canceled only six actually came to an end with CBS deciding to reverse its decision on Swat which was set to end with its seventh season but ended up getting a surprise renewal at the final hour ensuring the show continued into the 2024-25 season with season 8.

Exclusive: So Help Me Todd fans still mourning the cancellation of the CBS series after two seasons, has something to cheer about. Series creator Scott Prendergast is back with Pennies, another light broadcast procedural that has two immediate family members at the center. In a competitive situation, Fox has landed Pennies with a script commitment plus penalty. The project hails from Kapital Entertainment, which will serve as the co-studio with Fox Entertainment.
Written by Prendergast, the hourlong Pennies is about a reclusive forensic pathologist named Penny who is more comfortable with the bodies under her (dogged) care than with real people. Penny solves mysteries and murders stemming from the San Francisco morgue, aided by her over-confident extrovert sister, also named Penny, an attorney in the D.A.’s office.
Prendergast executive produces with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and Brian Morewitz of Morewitz Media.

“I think that there’s certain things that you do in life, and you finish that chapter and we did that,” she dished, but confirmed that she still has some friends on the cast.
“I have made some great friends over there, so I definitely talk to my girls.”
Lisa caught a lot of heat during her eight-season run on the reality series because of her willingness to throw her co-stars under the bus.

Two petitions to bring back So Help Me Todd have crossed a big milestone in response to the controversial cancellation by CBS. Debuting in September 2022, from creator Scott Prendergast and showrunner Elizabeth Klaviter, the lighthearted procedural drama follows a private investigator (Skylar Astin) as he agrees to work for his mother and her law firm despite their uneasy relationship. So Help Me Todd was cancelled in April of this year, lasting only two seasons.
Now, two petitions to bring back So Help Me Todd have gained traction. The first petition, from Change.org, calls for the procedural to be renewed for a third season. Addressed to networks like NBC, ABC, and The CW, the petition praises the show and pushes back on the fact that it was axed on a cliffhanger.
The second petition, also from Change.org, takes a more critical tone on CBS. It suggests the network behaved...

So Help Me Todd has a promising replacement slated for the fall 2024-2025 TV cycle: a new crime drama called High Potential starring Kaitlin Olson. CBS' legal dramedy So Help Me Todd was canceled ahead of season 3, despite its success as a sleeper hit in its first two seasons. Its cancelation frustrated many fans, who enjoyed seeing Marcia Gay Harden's straight-faced Margaret character interact with her former Private Investigator son, Todd, played by Skylar Astin.
The quirky dynamic between So Help Me Todd's legal minds, Todd and Margaret, would be impossible to replicate, considering that much of it hinged on the actors' chemistry. Despite getting mixed reviews following season 2, CBS pulling the plug on it was controversial, as it had built a solid following throughout its run. While the CBS series remains canceled, another humorous legal drama show that So Help Me Todd fans might enjoy will emerge in the fall.

CBS' fun legal sitcom So Help Me Todd was canceled after just two seasons, leading fans to wonder why. The show starred Skylar Astin as the titular Todd, and Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret, Todd's mother and a high-powered attorney. Todd is bright but a slacker, and he reluctantly agrees to work at his mother's law firm as an in-house private investigator. Thanks to the premise, So Help Me Todd earned praise for being just as much a family drama as it was a legal comedy.
Unfortunately, So Help Me Todd season 3 won't be happening as CBS pulled the plug on the well-received show after just two seasons. The news, announced in April, came as a shock to fans, who didn't expect So Help Me Todd to be canceled so soon or at all. Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is among the most popular adaptations of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories about the iconic detective. While the series ended in 2017, its creators are still holding out hope for continuing the story one day.
The series was created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Moffat addressed the possibility of bringing back the show. He said he'd personally be up for revisiting Sherlock any day, but it's not up to him. The biggest "problem" with holding up a revival series or reunion film is that the show's stars are so busy these days with their own respective filming schedules, and that makes getting everybody on the same page to film Sherlock more difficult.
