Prime Video's 3% Rt 'War of the Worlds' Movie Is Drawing Attention to a Much Better-Rated Miniseries
War of the Worlds is the kind of story that can be reshaped and told in many ways without ever losing its impact — or at least we thought so until 2025. Originally published as a novel by H.G. Wells in 1898, the story famously created a national panic when it was read as a radio series that terrified everyone who listened to it, to the point of some listeners believing that Earth was under an alien attack. In 2005, Steven Spielberg adapted the story into a fast-paced action-thriller with Tom Cruise that raked in over $600 million at the global box office. In 2019, however, it was adapted into a British miniseries that a lot of people missed. But now you will be able to stream it as it enters the Roku Channel catalog.

One of the best things about the Harry Potter franchise is how the fandom remains as alive and bubbling as when the books were first released. Recently, a fan on Reddit pointed out how, of all the twisted dynamics in the series, the treatment of food and punishment in the Dursley household might be one of the most telling and absurd.
Nowhere is this more obvious than in Goblet of Fire, where Dudley is suddenly put on a harsh diet. One morning, Harry describes their breakfast as a single quarter of a grapefruit. Whether Harry’s description is slightly exaggerated or not, the truth is clear: the Dursleys operate in extremes, either gross overindulgence or cold, calculated cruelty, with no room for logic or healthy balance in between.

The Harry Potter reboot is finally handing out its Hogwarts letters, and the Dursleys just cut. While fans are still split on whether this fresh take is even necessary, one casting choice is turning heads for all the right reasons. The new Petunia Dursley isn’t just another cold aunt with a stiff upper lip, she’s got a serious TV track record that promises a whole new flavor of spite.
With the Dursleys officially back on Privet Drive and a powerhouse actress stepping into Petunia’s heels, it’s safe to say the wizarding world’s most bitter Muggle just got a major upgrade.

HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series continues to round out its cast, adding nine more names to the upcoming adaptation on Monday.
Katherine Parkinson has been cast as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
In the books, the Dursleys take Harry in when he’s dropped on their doorstep after the murder of his parents. They aren’t exactly loving — in fact, their treatment of him is more like emotional abuse — but they keep him safe in the muggle world.
Fans will recognize Powley from series like “A Small Light,” “The Morning Show” and, most recently, “Masters of the Air.” She also played Kelsey in Pete Davidson’s “The King of Staten Island.

HBO has officially cast Master of the Air and Black Mirror stars to play Petunia and Vernon Dursley in the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. Petunia, previously played by Fiona Shaw, is Harry's maternal aunt and the older sister of Lily Potter. She and her husband, Vernon, played by the late Richard Griffiths in the Harry Potter movies, reluctantly took Harry in as a baby and kept his status as a wizard a dark secret. These characters should have especially prominent roles in the first season of the Harry Potter remake, making their casting all the more critical.
According to Variety, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been officially cast to play Petunia and Vernon Dursley in HBO's Harry Potter. Powley is credited in TV shows like Masters of the Air (2024) and The Morning Show (2021), in addition to her film credits in The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), White Boy Rick...

Harry Potter's uncle and aunt have been cast. HBO's upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's fan-favorite book series has found its elder Dursleys, and their casting should excite longtime fans of the franchise.
Per Variety, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been added to the ensemble cast of Harry Potter as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, the maternal aunt and uncle of Harry, respectively. An actor for their son, Dudley, has not yet been cast. At ages 33 and 42, Powley and Rigby are far closer in age to the Dursleys in Rowling's novels than their respective movie actor counterparts, Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths, who were 43 and 54 at the time the first movie was released. HBO has repeatedly described the upcoming show as a "faithful adaptation" of the source material, and this casting proves that the new Harry Potter will be paying more attention to how young or old certain characters were in the novels.

The “Harry Potter” TV series at HBO has found its Petunia and Vernon Dursley.
Variety has learned exclusively that Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will star as the elder Dursleys in the upcoming small screen adaptation of the J.K. Rowling book series. Yet to be cast is their son, Dudley.
Fans of the books will recall that Petunia was the sister of Harry’s mother, Lily. The Dursleys grudgingly take Harry in after his parents’ death, forcing him to live in a cupboard under the stairs and essentially treating him like a servant rather than their nephew. Petunia and Vernon were played by Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths in the “Harry Potter” film franchise.
As previously announced, Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, Arabella Stanton is Hermione, and Alastair Stout is Ron. Other cast members include: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape,...

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. Lakeshore Records will release the Happy Face—Original Series Soundtrack digitally on Friday, March 28, 2025. The soundtrack for the new Paramount+ series features original music by Emmi-nominated composer Ariel Marx (A Small Light). Marx’s spare yet atmospheric score subtly augments the psychological tension of the dramatic series based on the popular memoir and podcast.
Happy Face is inspired by the true-life story of Melissa G. Moore, which was documented in the Happy Face podcast from iHeartPodcasts and Moore, as well as in Moore’s autobiography Shattered Silence, which she wrote with M. Bridget Cook. At 15, Moore discovered her father was the prolific serial killer known as Happy Face. Since then, she changed her name and distanced herself from a traumatic past.

Since its launch, Disney+ has become one of the biggest streaming platforms out there. Disney+ launched on November 12, 2019, wherein it was rolled out globally over the course of two years. The launch of this platform would give viewers exclusive access to their favorite Disney classics as well as Pixar films like the Toy Story series and more. Because of Disney's absorption of both Marvel and Fox, the launch of the platform also meant that slowly but surely, streaming subscribers would find that their favorite MCU films were migrating over to Disney+.
That said, Disney+ has not been without its controversies. This includes criticism about their content itself, with this year's Star Wars series The Acolyte being a particularly egregious example of the fan base being disappointed with the direction that Disney was taking a franchise. Disney+ has also stirred the pot by removing certain titles from its platform. Just this fall alone,...

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series highlighting the scripts behind this year’s awards-season movies continues with A Real Pain, Searchlight’s buzzy Sundance dramedy marking the sophomore feature directing effort of actor-filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg.
The The Social Network star also penned the script about a pair of cousins who reunite for a tour of Poland to honor their grandmother, but see older tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family’s history.
The movie also stars Kieran Culkin in his first post-Succession film role. He plays Benji opposite Eisenberg’s David (Eisenberg); together their goal is to end up at the house their grandmother left behind after the Nazis swept through and rounded up the Jews. Fun fact: the house they discover was one that was already in Eisenberg’s family. It belonged to his great aunt.

Majesty, a new ITV period drama, aims to portray Queen Elizabeth I’s early life through a daring and modern lens. The project, created by former Grey’s Anatomy showrunners Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, and William Harper, will follow Elizabeth’s formative years at King Henry VIII’s court, combining historical intrigue with speculative narrative.
The series, directed by James Strong (Mr Bates vs the Post Office), will center on conspiracy theories surrounding Elizabeth’s early years. While Elizabeth I is frequently portrayed as a formidable ruler who reigned for nearly 50 years, Majesty takes a different perspective, delving into her early difficulties and secrets. The show’s makers describe it as “an emotional, funny, and contemporary-feeling alternate history about how three outsiders try to stay alive while hiding a secret that, if discovered, would rock England to its foundations.”

While most people will have heard the story of Anne Frank, they may not know the other side of her incredible and sad diary, that of Miep and Jan Gies, who were responsible for hiding the Frank family, a tale depicted in National Geographic's A Small Light. Premiering on May 1, 2023, A Small Light recounts the true story of a Dutch couple in the 1930s and 1940s, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) and Jan Gies (Joe Cole), who helped the Jewish Frank family hide from the occupying Nazis from 1942 to 1944.
There have been several movies and TV shows about Anne Frank but almost none about the people who hid her. A Small Light gives an account of the lead-up to the Nazi occupation in the Netherlands, the Franks' time in hiding, and the aftermath when the Nazis uncovered their hiding place. The eight-episode miniseries has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned...

Back in 1980, author Philip Nicholson, writing as A. J. Quinnell, introduced the world to a man named Creasy, an American-born former French Foreign Legion soldier, in the pages of his novel Man on Fire. While Creasy would return for four more novels – The Perfect Kill (1992), The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996) – it’s Man on Fire that has received the most attention over the year, being turned into a film that starred Scott Glenn in 1987 and one that starred Denzel Washington in 2004. Disney’s long-expected move to fold ABC Signature into 20th Television brings to an end the media conglom’s in-house TV studio, which started off as Touchstone Television a decade before Disney bought ABC, subsequently being renamed ABC Studios and more recently ABC Signature.
Launched in 1985, Touchstone TV’s first major hit was Golden Girls, which ran on NBC for seven seasons. Other successful series from that era include Blossom, also for NBC, and Home Improvement, Ellen and Boy Meets World for ABC.
In the first years after ABC became part of Disney, Touchstone Television continued to sell to all networks — which is how 20th Television operated for its entire run at Fox — with shows such as Felicity and Popular for the WB and The PJs for Fox/WB.
The studio gradually shifted its attention to its own network, supplying it with series such as Once And Again, My Wife And Kids,...

Titles like ‘A Small Light’ and ‘Togo’ have been removed from Disney+ even as the streamer prepares to hike its subscription rates.
Disney+ is apparently feeling pretty confident about its ability to shrug off the ire of customers, these days. The service has enacted a new round of title removals, pulling more than 20 shows and movies from its catalog in its latest efforts to streamline. The removals themselves aren’t all that rare, but the response from Disney when asked about the pulled titles reveals a company that has no qualms about facing backlash from customers, despite the public relations year it’s had.
Key Details: Titles removed from Disney+ include “Hailey’s On It,” “Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez,” and more. Disney defended the decision to remove the titles, saying they represented less than 2% of its catalog. Disney+ plans are increasing in price starting Oct. 17. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.

Disney has been deleting more of its self-made shows and films from the Disney+ streaming service, attracting more ‘content impairment charges’.
It’s been about 18 months since we first had to learn what the term ‘content impairment charge’ meant, as Disney spent around $2bn to delete films and TV shows from its Disney+ streaming service. These weren’t shows and movies it bought it. Rather, it was productions it made itself, but by deleting them, it could save money on ongoing residuals and such like.
Yep, it’s cheaper not to show you things long term, even if you paid for them in the first place.
Anyway, as you’ve probably gleamed from the headline to this particular piece, here we go again. We’re indebted to the WhatsOnDisneyPlus site for alerting us to another collection of productions that are being removed from Disney’s services.

There is not much information about the series at the moment, but that won't stop us at TV Fanatic from sharing everything we know so far about Sheriff Country Season 1!

Who would make for the more uncomfortable travel partner, Roman Roy or Mark Zuckerberg?
That’s a question you’ll ponder while watching the new trailer for “A Real Pain,” a road trip dramedy starring Emmy-winning “Succession” star Kieran Culkin and Oscar-nominated “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg. Eisenberg is also the writer and director.
Eisenberg and Culkin play David and Benji, respectively. They’re cousins who are very different from each other and take a trip across Poland to honor their beloved late grandmother, who survived the Holocaust and escaped the country. Long-standing tensions between them resurface as they get deeper into their family history.
In addition to Eisenberg and Culkin, the cast includes Will Sharpe (“The White Lotus”), Jennifer Grey (“Dirty Dancing”), Kurt Egyiawan (“House of the Dragon”), Liza Sadovy (“A Small Light”), Daniel Oreskes (“Only Murders in the Building”), and Ellora Torchia (“Midsommar”). The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s sci-fi monster movie World-Breaker has just finished filming, and stars Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich.
Everything was so topsy-turvy during those 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes that when World-Breaker was announced last October, the production had a cast in place but wasn’t allowed to reveal who was starring. Months later, it’s been announced that Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich are the leads in the sci-fi monster film from director Brad Anderson.
Filming recently ended in Northern Ireland, and The Hollywood Reporter has the story that Signature Entertainment will distribute the film in the UK and Ireland. The news emerges as the Cannes Film Festival begins in earnest; production company The Exchange is hoping to find buyers for World-Breaker’s international and US rights at the festival’s busy market.
