Though well-made, you wonder how much longer they can exploit the franchise...

I marvel at how much Dreamworks has exploited their Shrek franchise. I mean, how many movies, specials and short films can they make until enough is enough? While I clearly am worried about the future of the series, I must admit that despite everything, "Scared Shrekless" clearly has gorgeous CGI. So, despite being a short and having a substitute voice for Fiona, it is still amazingly nice to look at and features a lot of what made the other films enjoyable.

The episode is set at Halloween. Many of the old storybook characters come to Shrek's house to celebrate and tell scary stories. The Gingerbread Man tells a story about his mate--how he and a crazed baker made what SEEMED like the perfect partner. But, things go awry and the story is frighteningly cute. Then, Puss tells a story that is clearly inspired by "Psycho". But, again and again, Donkey keeps interrupting the story--making a mess of it and forcing Puss to tell what REALLY happened. Finally, Shrek tells a story he says is a cute version of "The Exorcist".

All in all, I was surprised that I enjoyed this film as much as I did. All three stories were very enjoyable and worth seeing...surprise! Nice, light viewing for the entire family.

    Shrek Halloween Special

On Halloween, Shrek and several fairy tale characters go to the castle of Lord Farquaad, where they compete in telling scary stories. The last one remaining in the castle wins. This twenty-minute cartoon consists of three stories done as a homage to cult horrors. Gingerbread's story is inspired by the film "Bride of Frankenstein", Puss and Donkey squabble in their usual way through a parody of Hitchcock's "Psycho", and Shrek wins the night with scenes from the movie "The Exorcist" applied to Pinocchio. Imaginative, witty and technically well done. I enjoyed it very much.

    A Shrektacular Hollween Special!

Its Halloween time again so Shrek and the gang celebrate it by going to lord farquaad's supposedly haunted castle to tell scary stories to each other, The last one standing without getting scared wins!

Yeah, This was a pretty fun watch with funny classic horror movie homages, and great callbacks to the old movies (especially Shrek 1), The whole voice cast reprised their roles which really adds to the authentic Shrek feel we all know and love (Except Eddie Murphy, But still tho Dean Edwards does such a good Eddie Murphy impression, I didn't even notice someone replaced him), The animation is pretty fantastic too, On par with the movie's animation quality.

My favorite story was the first one with Gingy and his girlfriend, I even remember watching it as a kid and being actually scared of it.. so that's something I guess.

I can understand how someone who doesn't really care about the Shrek franchise can pass this one out but if you're a Shrek fan, This is one of these shorts that you shouldn't miss, Really enjoyed this one.

Exactly what you'd hope for and a little more

A surprisingly funny and well made movie. This movie is a very basic story essentially shrek just does a bet that involves each of the main characters telling a story to scare each other. The comedy that comes out of the stories are surprisingly funny and witty for any age and do supply a good amount of enjoyment in its 30 minute run time there is also a lot of cute callbacks and like shrek the halls shrek is written in a very believable way that makes lots of sense for his character. Unlike shrek the halls all the other characters act in a very believable way And the movie is much more funnier. This is a fun Halloween movie where you get exactly what you'd hope for and a good time.

    ErShrekend

Surprisingly hilarious Halloween special with the first episode, a brilliant Bride of Frankenstein parody, particularly outstanding.

After the average Christmas special the writers really upped the ante and came up with some gruesomely funny ideas and jokes, using the by now all too well-known Shrek characters remarkably well.

The result's an entertaining half-hour roller-coaster with only the middle section lagging.

Since the first two installments, Shrek has never been this funny. Aaaargh!!!

When Pinocchio runs through the door after being scared by Shrek, a small gap is seen above where his head went through. However, when the camera cuts to the other side of the door, the gap is no longer there but is immediately created when a small piece of the door falls off.

Shrek: [Castle Duloc has become run-down; to Donkey] Look! It's that little thingy you love so much, remember?

Creepy Clockwork Chorus: [Shrek pulls the lever on the Information Booth, and the same mechanized marionettes pop out singing, this time looking very deranged] Welcome to Duloc/It's a creepy town/It was once pristine/Now it's all run down. We will chop off your head/And then laugh when you're dead/Duloc is a creepy place.

Creepy Clockwork Chorus: Come on in with your head,/Come lie down, break your... face/Duloc is... Duloc is... Duloc is a cre-py... place!

Shrek: [booth takes their picture, captioning it "Get Out"] Ooh! Let's do that again!

      Donkey: NO!
