To begin with, I loved the casting for this movie. All three 3 are great fit for their part but Jaideep Ahlawat just shines a bit brighter. The story begins in a mellow, small town, following the same mood but picks up straightaway. Love the mood it sets and the world it tries to create. There's a good amount of thrill, if not absolute mystery, all along the way. The story keeps building and building to the big reveal, the final act, the 'Prestige' ....BUT, the climax just lets you down. Not that it's a failed climax. No, not at all. But you're just left wanting for a more shocking moment after such a long buildup. It is perfectly believable but not what the remaining 2 hours built up to. It lacked a level of shock and awe that was expected. It's a mixed feeling. Would have given the overall film a good 8, but the climax pull it down to a 6. Still a good watch.
I read the book "Devotion of Suspect X" before I watched the movie. The book truly was unputdownable with an ending which stayed with me for days.
Unfortunately, the movie doesn't live up to the book at all, I was expecting something crafty from Ghosh but it was as if he tried to fit in everything from the book in the movie. There were a lot more characters in the book like Yakuwo and Kudo which were as it seems amalgamated in Vijay Verma's character (Karan Anand).
The ending felt rushed with no solid explanation and Ghosh gave a new angle of "first love".
Performances were stellar and solid with Jaideep Ahlawat being the brightest star. He was so well suited for the role of the teacher and sank his teeth into the role with such ease.
Kareena did justice to her role but I felt she was trapped by the script. The scene in the beginning was a testimony to her acting abilities especially when it came to her being vulnerable and fierce at the same time. I wish Ghosh could have explored her guilt a little better.
Vijay was as usual excellent.

It is a prime example of a tastefully decorated ship smoothly covering all its due course, only to sink helplessly right before penetrating the premises of the destined harbour. It is a Story that did everything right and ticked every box only to underwhelm at the onset of its climactic segment!
Finales are highly critical for any film, let alone for a murder mystery feature because it is that particular juncture where threads get loose, revelations crop up on the surface, and even a single mistake could jeopardise the whole situation. I am afraid that was exactly what transpired in this case!
Mr. Ghosh, what the heck happened to you? This is the same person who made films like Kahaani, Badla, Bob Biswas, some of my absolute favourites. Where was that Sujoy Ghosh I knew and adored? I expected much better from him.
P. S. Regardless of the writing and its drawbacks, the performances were impressive. Bebo, Jaideep and Vijay, all three, had done great, as was expected from them.

Film Review: Jaane Jaan streaming on Netflix
Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, this film is a true mindbender with its brilliantly executed twists and turns!!
A mother (Kareena Kapoor) with a murky past is hiding from an abusive husband in Kalimpong when her past catches up with her. She accidentally kills her husband and is in a dilemma about what needs to be done! Her introvert neighbour Naren ( Jaideep Ahlawat), a nerdy yet brilliant mathematician who secretly loves Kareena agrees to help her out and that's when the cat and mouse game with the police begins !! Vijay Verma plays a sharp, handsome & suave Mumbai cop who is coincidentally in Kalimpong in search of Kareena's husband who is wanted in another case !! Who will prevail in the end, the nerd or the cop is what this film is all about!!
All three lead actors -Kareena , Vijay Varma & Jaideep Ahlawat are brilliant in their respective roles , especially Ahlawat with his make-up, quirky mannerisms and calm demeanor in the most stressful of situations!! The guy seems to be getting better by the day!!
Screenplay is crisp and is engaging from the first scene itself. Brilliant direction by Sujoy Ghosh coupled with great Cinematography depicting the dull and gloomy landscape of Kalimpong is also worth a mention!!
A mind bender in the true sense!! Must watch for true aficionados of this genre!!
Going with 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✨ for this one.. adios 🙂!!

Story starts on a bad note (for that u need to watch it) as a audience I was like maybe Naren the teacher had a bad phase, but then the story makes a little bit curve. In few minutes u are going to make a little spicy story in ur head suddenly tudum villain came into the storyline. From now on full on planning and masala will entertain you . From my PoV the after the half part it is little bit slow but the story and grip needs that slowness. Also the kudos to the actors and the director who made this movie. A good a movie to watch if u want to do exercise for ur brain 😙 Xd , Kidding ! But it is a good a watch. And the salute to Jaideep ahlawat.

- TriviaThis adaptation of the Japanese novel "The Devotion of Suspect X" by Keigo Higashino has been planned for nearly a decade. Produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Sujoy Ghosh, it would have starred Saif Ali Khan (Kareena Kapoor's real-life husband), Aishwarya Rai (replaced by Jacqueline Fernandez, then by Kangana Ranaut), and Fawad Khan. It was shelved in 2014 as it was deemed too similar to the Malayalam film Drishyam (2013) and the in-production Hindi remake Drishyam (2015). Production restarted in 2022 with Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Verma.
