John Wick: Chapter 4 star Scott Adkins continues to cement himself as the best-kept secret in action movies, with the actor now combining martial arts spectacle with the drama of war in the first trailer for his upcoming action thriller, Prisoner of War. The movie was picked up for distribution by Well Go USA at the end of last year, with Prisoner of War now all set to land on VOD on September 19, 2025, in the United States. The action star developed the story for Prisoner of War, which was previously called Death March. Independent distributor, Well Go USA, picked up the rights for the film and has now released the trailer. Adkins is likely best known for his character Yuri Boyka from the Undisputed sequels, but the martial artist has also popped up in films like Doctor Strange and John Wick: Chapter 4.

Adkins, who is well-known to action fans thanks to his roles in the likes of the Undisputed franchise, Accident Man, Avengement, and One Shot, has finally seen his star rise thanks to his scene-stealing part as Killa Harkan, the head of the German Table, in John Wick: Chapter 4. Operation Blood Hunt is the film we wanted after Dog Soldiers showed us all that werewolves and soldiers could be a great combination. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in the way of followup at the time, the promised sequel never happened and anyone who saw Werewolves of the Third Reich would probably rather forget it. So we’ve had to wait until now for Brandon Slagle to take the standard war movie plot of an odd assortment of fighters sent on a mission behind enemy lines and some werewolves to serve as the villains. The Paramount+ spy thriller series Lioness has added three new cast members for its upcoming Season 2, set to premiere Oct. 27. According to Deadline, Max Martini, Kirk Acevedo and Patricia De Leon will be in Season 2 as recurring characters. Lioness, created by Taylor Sheridan, who also created the Yellowstone, 1923, 1883 and Tulsa King and several other Paramount+ shows, stars Zoe Saldaa, who also serves as executive producer.

Most recently, Martini was seen in The Tender Bar, directed by George Clooney and was the lead in Eli, a Netflix feature film. He was also in the independent film The Channel and will be seen in the upcoming Osiris with Brianna Hildebrand.

Exclusive: Max Martini (The Tender Bar), Kirk Acevedo (Band Of Brothers) and Patricia De Leon (Mayans M.C.) have joined the Season 2 cast of Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness in recurring roles.

Lioness stars Zoe Saldaña, who also executive produces, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Kelly, with Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman, who executive produces.

Inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, Lioness follows the life of Joe (Saldaña) while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror.

In Season 2, as the CIA’s fight against terror moves closer to home, Joe (Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Kelly) enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe is forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she has made as the leader of the Lioness program.

Leading indie distributor Well Go USA has picked up North American rights to “Death March,” an upcoming WWII action film starring and conceived by action star Scott Adkins.

In Adkins’ story, scripted by Marc Clebanoff, a British airman washes ashore after being ejected from his plane and becomes a prisoner in a Japanese-run Pow camp. While waiting to join the infamous Bataan death march, the airman is tortured by the camp commander and is forced to fight for his life against an array of skilled Japanese warriors. Adkins portrays the airman. Veteran actor Peter Shinkoda plays the camp commander.

Under the direction of Louis Mandylor, the film has recently wrapped production in the Subic Bay and Bataan region of the Philippines. Release plans have not yet been finalized.

Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

There are many action thrillers out there where the makers pay a lot of attention to making the film more gritty and hard-hitting than the competition and hence there is a noticeable shortage of attention when it comes to the pacing and the performances. William Kaufman doesn’t make that mistake in The Channel, which he co-wrote with Paul Reichelt. With realistic action sequences and decent performances, The Channel stands out as a well-executed action thriller. It has elements of the heist sub-genre, but the sincere attempt to make the story work is what actually kept me hooked.

There are few genres that give audiences that 'rush' more than the heist genre. From legendary movies like Heat, the Ocean's quadrilogy, Den of Thieves, and more recently Michael Bay's Ambulance, this phenomenal subgenre is certainly a packed one, and holds some of the best movies and experiences in cinematic history.

Adding to the large roster of bank heist movies, is veteran action director William Kaufman's latest feature, The Channel. The Channel boasts everything that we love about the bank heist movie subgenre. Filled with visceral gun fights and shootouts and thrilling police chases, The Channel is a ton of fun. However, although marketed as a bank heist movie, isn't really about the heist.

Known for his explosive, low-budget action movies like One in the Chamber, The Hit List and Saints and Sinners just to name a few, action director William Kaufman recently sat down with MovieWeb to discuss his upcoming highly anticipated action flick The Channel. Grandave International president Tamara Nagahiro has announced in TIFF a raft of territory sales on thriller Righteous Thieves following the North American deal with Gravitas Ventures.

Deals have closed with Daro for Eastern Europe, Africa, and France, Eagle Pictures for Italy, Premiere TV for Benelux, and Bucket Studios for South Korea.

Anthony Nardolillo (7th & Union) directed the film from a screenplay by Michael Corcoran about the head of a secret organisation who assembles a crew to steal back artwork plundered during the Second World War from a modern-day billionaire Neo-Nazi oligarch.

Grandave International has sold North America rights to action movie The Channel to Brainstorm Media, which is planning a theatrical and VOD release for April, 2023.

The film is directed by William Kaufman who also wrote the screenplay.

The Channel was produced by Andrew and Isaac Lewis (There Comes A Knocking), Jon Wroblewski, Christian Sosa, while Paul Reichelt and Stanley Preschutti (The Card Counter) acted as executive producers.
