I've never been more disappointed after an amazing opening Act.

I don't know what happened here. The first twenty minutes of this movie had me asking myself how I'd never heard of it, much less how it was not receiving an absurd amount of praise in the horror movie community. It was awesome.

And then the rest of the movie happened. The middle was so boring, and almost as if it was written by a totally different person. The ending livened things up a bit but not nearly enough to rekindle the atmosphere and engrossing nature of the beginning.

I give it a 5 because it wasn't awful. I'll probably never watch it again. Had the same passion been put into the entirity of the movie that was clearly placed into the beginning... I probably would have placed it into my top 10 in horror.

    Solid

Deliver Us got a decent production, a good working cast and a fine visual quality, but, like other reviewers already stated, the script/story is way too predictable and can't provide something really new or too exciting to the genre of what I would brand supernatural horror with a religious theme. The end of the movie is also a rather weak one, at least in my opinion. What else? The level on the horror-o-meter is a mediocre one: a few scenes of gore don't provide more than just a little spicy flavor here and there but not much. Verdict: Deliver Us - solid and decent but somewhat meandering around the level "mediocrity", not bad, not too good either, but that's mostly because of the plot. Okay, if you like movies a la The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Rite, End of Days (starring the mighty Schwarzenegger) also comes to mind. Last note: next time, just deliver us a lil' more and surprising evil ;)

    Could have been better

Deliver Us (2023) is a religious horror film with stunning cinematography and gore, but a disappointing script. It could have been a better film if the screenplay was better.

The film follows a Russian nun who claims to have immaculately conceived twins. The Vatican sends a team of priests to investigate, but they are joined by affiliates of a secret society with orders to abort both children. An American Jesuit discovers their plan and helps her escape.

The cinematography in Deliver Us is truly beautiful. The directors use light and shadow to create a sense of atmosphere and suspense. The film also features some gruesome gore for the gore hound horror fans.

However, the script for Deliver Us is disappointing. The plot is convoluted and the characters are underdeveloped. The film also suffers from some tonal inconsistencies, switching between horror, comedy, and drama without much success.

Overall, Deliver Us is a mixed bag. It is worth a watch if you are a fan of religious horror, gore, and art house films. However, it is not a keeper for me. The script is too disappointing to make up for the film's strengths.

If the screenplay was better, Deliver Us could have been a truly great horror film. It has all the elements in place: a unique and interesting premise, stunning cinematography, and some truly gruesome gore. However, the script falls short, and the film ultimately fails to live up to its potential.

    Could have been much better

"Deliver Us," the 2023 movie, presents a tantalizing blend of cinematic beauty and an intriguing premise, but ultimately falls short in its execution. With a visually stunning backdrop and promising story elements, it had the potential to be something truly special. However, a disjointed and poorly executed narrative left me somewhat unsatisfied.

One of the undeniable strengths of "Deliver Us" is its visual appeal. The cinematography and art direction are nothing short of breathtaking. Each frame is meticulously crafted, capturing the audience's attention with its mesmerizing aesthetics. The use of color, lighting, and camera work creates a vivid and immersive world that draws you in from the very beginning. In this regard, the film is an absolute triumph.

The premise of the movie also offers a unique and thought-provoking concept. It delves into themes that could have been explored in depth, challenging the audience's perceptions and sparking meaningful conversations. Unfortunately, the potential of this premise is never fully realized due to a muddled and convoluted narrative.

Where "Deliver Us" falters is in its storytelling. The plot is plagued by pacing issues, awkward transitions, and a lack of clear direction. It often feels like the movie is torn between multiple narrative threads, leaving the viewer struggling to connect the dots. This disjointed storytelling detracts from the overall experience and hinders the film's ability to engage and captivate the audience.

Character development is another area where "Deliver Us" falls short. While the cast delivers commendable performances, their characters are not given the depth and complexity they deserve. As a result, it becomes challenging to invest emotionally in their journeys, and their actions may appear arbitrary at times.

In conclusion, "Deliver Us" is a movie that possesses undeniable cinematic beauty and a tantalizing premise. However, its narrative execution leaves much to be desired. The film's pacing issues and lack of clear storytelling direction diminish its overall impact. Despite its potential, I found myself unable to fully immerse in the narrative. While it's worth watching for its visual aesthetics, "Deliver Us" ultimately falls short of being the exceptional film it could have been. I.

So slow paced and uneventful that it just wasn't worth the effort...

The synopsis for this 2023 horror movie "Deliver Us" sounded interesting, and with it being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually heard about when I stumbled upon it here in 2024, then of course I opted to sit down and watch it.

The storyline and script, from writers Lee Roy Kunz and Kane Kunz, was okay and watchable. However, the movie is rather monotonous and slow paced, and the narrative is definitely suffering from that. While the storyline is interesting, then directors Cru Ennis and Lee Roy Kunz were simply taking too long to take the story nowhere.

"Deliver Us" is somewhat of a difficult movie to sit through, given the fact that there isn't really a whole lot happening. And I must admit that I was close to giving up on finish watching it, just short of making it halfway through. But I opted to stick with it, hoping that directors Cru Ennis and Lee Roy Kunz would step up and bring a bit more to the table.

However, that just never happened and "Deliver Us" was ultimately an insanely slow paced and uneventful movie. And as for it being a horror movie, well, don't get your hopes up.

Of the entire cast ensemble in the movie, then I was only familiar with actor Thomas Kretschmann, and he was not even in a leading role. However, it should be said that the acting performances from the actors and actresses in the movie were actually quite fair, despite the fact that the script and storyline was so very mundane.

"Deliver Us" was a swing and a miss of a movie in terms of entertaining me. And this is most definitely not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time. Nor is it a movie that I would recommend for the average horror fan to rush out and get to watch. If you are interested in religious storylines, then you might get a kick out of watching "Deliver Us", but for a casual viewer then the movie just didn't cut it.

This slow burn of a movie just didn't really tickle me in any of the right places.

My rating of "Deliver Us" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars.
