    Solid effort from Seagal

I don't think Seagal fan's will be disappointed with this one. Bearing in mind it's DTV it would be unfair to compare it to the likes of Under Siege and Exit Wounds but its definitely one his better efforts from the last ten or so years. Lots of action in this one and well done to for the quality of the gun fights. Seagal packs in quite a few brutal fist fights too. The story although perhaps a little bit more complicated than it needed to be moves along at a good pace. Byron Mann who teamed up with Seagal previously in Belly of the Beast and also appeared in Sniper 3 with Tom Berenger makes a good bad guy but he is perhaps a little underused. Recommended for Seagal fans.

    A Dependable Diversion

Budget : $6,500,000; Gross worldwide: $166,865. Classic entertainment charitably provided. This Seagull flick perfectly represents the plethora of such productions in the slow, fat, geriatric era of his career. Of course he found a droll niche utilizing hilarious dialog and signature wrist-twisting, pattycake-slapping, bone-crunching fight moves ('Out for Justice', of an earlier era, was his best bone snapper). Lately he can only kick 'em in the shins or when they're down cause he can't lift his leg any higher lol. Even so, while super heroes have succumbed to mostly taking a beating until the very end, Seagull fans are never disappointed with his enduring invulnerability, focused omnipotence and campy coolness. His side man Byron, a comedy genius if unintentionally, singlehandedly sustains the tongue in cheek atmosphere... make no mistake about it: this is an action comedy. You can enjoy it without paying constant attention to it and by fast forwarding in spurts. Gratuitous girlyness included.

A gritty & brutal Seagal flick... it's a shame Seagal isn't like his hero roles in real life!!!!

Sometimes it's just nice to sit back & enjoy watching Seagal take out all the evil trash out there!!!

Steven Seagal is indeed "A Dangerous Man" here & what I've noticed about most of his direct to dvd films is that they actually portray what's really going on out there in the dark world, His films have a realistic gritty realism to them, i actually think his direct to dvd movies now are the equivalent of the types of violent, seedy & dark films of the Grindhouse days!!!

Seagal's films are drenched in the gritty & grim real world darkness & deals such as Criminals, Gangs, Thugs, Mobsters, Gypsy Gangs, seedy strip clubs, serial killers, Corrupt Cops & just about all types of real life scum!!!

It's a real shame though that Seagal himself is more like the villains in his films in real life & he's nothing like his hero roles!!!

That being said I genuinely enjoy watching Seagal doing what we can't do, taking the law into his own hands & exterminating those that deserve it.

"A Dangerous Man" is one of Seagal's darkest films & one of his best straight to dvd films!!!

Like the great old school action legend "Charles Bronson" in his later years during the 80's when he was churning out lots of straight to video violent action Thriller's, he was still enjoyable to watch & now "Seagal" is doing the same with his many direct to dvd violent action films, there's definitely parallels between the two action legends during the later part of their careers but also like "Bronson" there's something satisfying & enjoyable about seeing an ageing old school action hero still out there "taking out the trash" it's just fun & that's why these guys still have a huge Cult following.

I genuinely really like "Seagal" films & even some of the one's that are hated on i often like, IT'S all comes down to what you like & what is just an easy watching experience as we don't always want a big two hr blockbuster or atleast i don't!!! That's why so many love buying these direct to dvd films, because they promise good & violent action & a familiar face on the cover, these films are basically like the cheap, sleazy & violent films of the "Grindhouse" era or the beginnings of the vhs era, these cheap low budget films can be crazy, creative, gross, sleazy & violent as hell because they will never see the inside of a cinema!!!

I love the B-movie universe, there's alot of great underrated & Awesome films to be discovered.

Most old school action stars have turned to that cheap dvd market & it's still cool to see an old school action star older on the cover holding a gun with an explosion behind them!!!

It's all that old school grindhouse marketing but in the digital dvd era.

I actually enjoy Steven seagal's films the most out of the familiar action stars as to me he's like another "Charles Bronson" but of the gritty violent sleazy direct to dvd market.

Now I'm not dissing "Seagal" for putting out cheap low budget direct to dvd films as nearly all the aging old school action stars are doing it, including Wesley Snipes & Bruce Willis & Van Damme & Dolph Lundgren & even Stallone so it's fine, it's just not all the films will be made well & be good quality but i will say this about the master "Seagal" is that I've enjoyed his direct to dvd films more than the other guys!!! Now each action star has had their "Gems" of the low-budget category but "Seagal" has made the most that are enjoyable & entertaining & one's that are nice to just kick back & watch.

"A Dangerous Man" is a very dark & moody action Thriller, it's very violent & gritty & Steven Seagal is actually good in his role of an extremely deadly & "Dangerous Man" as he plays Shane Daniels a ex-con who is released from prison after six years for a crime he didn't commit, he gets mixed up with brutal gangsters & evil corrupted Cops & it's a tough, violent action Thriller that's got a real dark, gloomy Atmosphere. A DECENT one of Seagal's many DTV action films & one that's easy & action packed fun.

Seagal's new movie fails to impress

-Ufortunately even though its a relatively good film,it failed to impress after the highs of DTK and TK.The film does start strongly, and in the positives i have to count Steven's performance as it shows a character and not Seagal himself..He is angry, disappointed, sad and violent and he doesn't hide it..The action was pretty good, some explosions and a lot of shootouts, but the latter were almost unwatchable, due to the frantic editing. The editing also affects the fight scenes, most are shot really close to Steven's face(a 'trend' started by the ever popular Burne movies) making it really hard to understand whats going on and to actually SEE the fight..Thus even though the film does have a satisfying amount of fights, only a few are completely watchable..I think the best and most extensive fight was in the beginning with the Chinese man at the rest stop..The supporting cast is pretty good, and while Byron Mann makes a really convincing villain he is terribly underused, appearing in only a handful of scenes and failing to showcase his martial art skills..The film goes for a much darker tone than The Keeper, which surprisingly does not feel out of place since the story is much darker and brutal than Seagal's previous effort.

    Negatives

-Dubbing in 30% of the film -Bad editing that ruins most of the fights, the worse since KS -Villain underused -Seagal only in 60-70% of the film -Boring story

    Positives

-Plenty of action scenes -Seagal gives a surprisingly good performance -Lots of bloody action -Polished,and on a darker tone and style than TK -Good supporting cast -Effective villain -More fight scenes than TK -Stunt doubles remain "hidden"(no outrageous/blatant use of them like BOTB or Out Of Reach)

Overall my feelings are kind of mixed about this one..On the one hand it's a straightforward action film, and it doesn't take long for the action to start, also Steven is pretty good in it.But it just didn't really click with me,the editing was awful and i think we could have gotten a much better film with a bit more care..Personally I would rate it at 70%. A satisfying Seagal action movie, but keep your expectations lowered.

My God, an actual passable recent Seagal flick?!

If you've seen one Seagal flick, you've seen them all. This is particularity true with his later DTV output so I'm not going to waste time going into details, they're all the same here but what is new is that this one actually isn't half bad!

The movie has some real action scenes throughout with the last 20ish minutes being almost nonstop gunfights. Seagal must have been feeling peppy because he even jogs for a few seconds! Ok, that was probably his double but he does move around more than usual.

If for some reason you want to see what the sensei has been up to in his recent years (besides eating at the buffet) this is one of your better options.

    • Trivia
Byron Mann was cast late in pre-production. His character hadn't been fully established in the script, and many of his scenes were last-minute ideas.
    • Goofs
A police officer, alone, would not search two suspects and check the trunk of their car, without calling for backup first, or at least handcuff one and detain him in the back of his cruiser.
