Loved this game as a kid. But I replayed it recently and noticed there was a lot of features missing in this game that was either removed from the previous game or just not there when it should've been. The game was incredibly easy too. Which might've been the reason kid me liked it so much.
Not to say it's bad game. The characters and story is fun. And the racing is still a fast paced with really fun maps that change depending on what story mode you pick. But even with two story modes the game was incredibly short.
The biggest letdown was sadly the gravity control functions. It replaced the boost and drift functions from sonic riders one for a much less engaging gravity turn and gravity flying that completely kill your characters moment and requires no skill to use. You also need to use your gravity turn to wall ride and it was really finicky to accurately perform (possibly a skill issue on my end, but it still slows you down when you do it).
You could try to collect all the items from the shop but it takes a long time to grind the rings necessary for even one of the cheaper boards. There was also no information on what the gear changes really did unless the name made it obvious. It could be somewhere else in the game, but I couldn't find it, and if it's not in the shop where it matters then it's kinda pointless.
It's still an enjoyable game but as an adult it's clear that sonic racers is more of an enjoyable racing game.
