Armie Hammer has returned to public life of late after claims of cannibalism, sexual misconduct and rape upended his career. Although he has yet to land studio work following the controversy, one former collaborator is sharing support for the actor.
Director Tarsem Singh, who cast Hammer as the prince opposite Lily Collins’ Snow White and Julia Roberts’ evil queen in the 2012 film Mirror Mirror, tells The Hollywood Reporter that he continues to be a fan of Hammer’s work and does not feel that the headlines around the star’s personal life should impact his career.
“I love Armie Hammer,” Singh says. “I hope all this crap goes away on what adults do in their own spare time, and if everybody’s a consensual adult, I’m Ok.” (The director notes that he does not know “all the background” on the allegations against Hammer.)

Countless crime procedurals are focused on profilers who give their audiences capsule sized psychology lessons, and there is always a new true crime series attempting to unravel the question: what makes a murderer? The only thing we want to know more than why we do the things we do is why evil and horrible things happen in the world around us. Audiences follow fictional killers who hide behind their masks, watch FBI agents as they uncover the mystery of who killed the homecoming queen, and listen to tapes of real-life monsters as they recount the tales of their crimes. Much in the veins of Zack Snyder’s 300 and Brad Pitt’s Troy, one fantasy action epic starring Henry Cavill gave the actor some serious credibility in the movie business. The 2011 film, Immortals remains one of Cavill’s most overlooked and underrated roles – which has, by now, become quite a cyclical trait of his Hollywood career.

Yet, Cavill shined in Immortals as the lead and gave his first starring role in the Greek fantasy epic – a performance that would hold the blueprint of most of his leading action hero roles since then. Despite the near-constant industry sabotage that Cavill has been suffering for the past decade, his reserve of potential makes the fans believe another fantasy epic may be better served with the Superman actor down the line.

Since the days of visionary filmmakers like Ray Harryhausen, movies like Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts have explored ancient mythology to great effect. Considering the range of budgets and varying styles of directors, some have stuck close to the original story, while others opted for different perspectives. With Christopher Nolan set to adapt Homer's epic The Odyssey to the big screen, it's time for Hollywood to abandon a tired trend.
The ancient world has given movie fans an array of stories, from wholly original epics like The Lord of the Rings to historical films like Gladiator. Mythology often represents a combination of both, delivering audiences a look at history that blends fact and fiction.

Christopher Nolan isn't pulling any punches with his next movie project. Adapting Homer's The Odyssey is a massive undertaking, and it looks like Nolan has ensured the production budget will cover that.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey reportedly has a $250 million price tag (per Puck). Only two out of Nolan's 12 films crossed that $200 million mark, Tenet ($200 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($250 million). If anything, the update hints at the scale of his next project, which is fitting for an adaptation of Homer's epic. Details on the movie are still scarce save for its premise and release date. "Christopher Nolan's next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology," per Universal's announcement. "The film brings Homer's foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026."

Henry Cavill is one of the most handsome and chivalrous men in the entirety of Hollywood’s entertainment industry, but his acting career hasn’t been all that bright. Even though fans adore him for his praiseworthy personality and ripped physique like that of a Greek god, the 41-year-old actor has been at the receiving end of much criticism over his onscreen performances.

While Cavill has earned a place among famous franchises like the Dcu, his acting career still seems to be lagging drastically, with him being criticized for having one of the worst major “star” careers in Hollywood. That said, now it’s up to Warhammer 40K and Highlander to help him put an end to this very criticism.

A storied and timeless subgenre of cinema also referred to as peplum, sword-and-sandals films typically encompass historical or mythological epics. From classic genre offerings from the Golden Age of Hollywood like Spartacus and Ben-Hur to modern contemporaries in the vein of Gladiator and Troy, this doesn't appear to be a brand of film that's going anywhere anytime soon. It's a status quo underlined by the recent success of 2024's Gladiator II, Ridley Scott's mega-hit sequel that will hopefully serve as the catalyst for similar future offerings from the genre.
While the subgenre is typically dominated by films set in Ancient Rome or movies about Greek mythology, this decidedly isn't a prerequisite for consideration. As cinema has modernized, notable sword-and-sandals offerings have expanded to encompass most ancient settings, with some films even channeling elements of other genres like fantasy to great success. An indispensable branch of cinematic popular culture at this stage in the game,...

Henry Cavill already has three franchises lined up for the near future, and they are a lot better for him than a return as Superman and Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill’s acting career began in 2001 in the movie Laguna, and after roles in movies like Red Riding Hood, Stardust, and Immortals, along with the TV series The Tudors, his big break arrived in 2013 when he played Superman in Man of Steel. Cavill became a beloved actor in the superhero genre thanks to his performance as Superman, but that was only the beginning for him in the fantasy genre.
After starring in movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Enola Holmes, Cavill left DC’s universe after an uncredited cameo in 2023’s The Flash, and in 2019, he joined the universe of Netflix’s The Witcher. Cavill played the title witcher, Geralt of Rivia,...

Henry Cavill began acting while he was still in school, appearing in a production of "Grease" in between trips to the rugby field. The young performer must have taken to the stage; he began seeking a film acting career as soon as he graduated. Cavill landed his first professional role in 2001 in a film called "Laguna." He was only 18. The following year was busy for the young man, as he appeared in a TV movie adaptation of "Goodbye, Mr. Chips," an episode of the British crime drama "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries," and in the somewhat high-profile studio version of "The Count of Monte Cristo." The Alexandre Dumas adaptation also starred Jim Caviezel, Luis Guzman, and Guy Pearce, and it was put out by Spyglass Entertainment, so the 19-year-old Cavill was suddenly in front of millions.

The beloved Hollywood star Henry Cavill is set to lead the upcoming reboot of the 1986 classic fantasy action film Highlander, set to be directed by Chad Stahelski. While many fans eagerly await this fresh take on the franchise kicked off by Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 classic, some have also been skeptical. Concerns largely stem from Hollywood’s increasing trend of reboots, which some fear might tarnish the legacy of original works.

Already proving to be an instant hit for Netflix, taking the number-one spot in most countries on its debut, Kaos offers an innovative and chaotic reimagining of Greek mythology. Of course, it does not hurt to have the always-charismatic Jeff Goldblum in the role of Zeus. The series has certainly sparked interest in stories about ancient gods and heroes, leaving many fans wanting more. Thankfully, Netflix has another series on their platform, that also happens to be 100% fresh on Rt, and uses Greek mythology as its inspiration.
Blood of Zeus may be tonally different from Kaos, and in a different medium, animation versus live action, but the series boasts many exceptional elements that should appeal to fans of the recent Netflix hit. We will look a bit more at what Blood of Zeus is, and why you should consider checking it out yourself while riding the high of Greek-inspired fantasy.

Long before he was best known for being the DC Extended Universe's (Dceu) Superman or even a leading name, Henry Cavill was frequently seen in period dramas and romance movies. Back when he was typecast in these subgenres, he frequently took on supporting roles with varying degrees of importance to their respective plot. One such example is his role from 22 years ago as Albert Mondego in the 2002 adaptation of Alexandere Dumas' legendary tale of revenge, The Count of Monte Cristo. Albert wasn't the main character or antagonist in either the original novel or the movie, but he was still one of the story's most important characters. In brief, Albert was the son of Edmond Dantes, the protagonist who was wrongfully imprisoned for 13 years, who was raised by Fernand Mondego, the man who betrayed Dantes.
As Albert, Cavill served as The Count of Monte Cristo's moral backbone and was a constant reminder of Edmond's humanity.

The thing about Henry Cavill is that while he may be one of the most popular movie stars alive especially thanks to his tenure as the DC Extended Universe's (Dceu) Superman his movies and TV shows aren't all that good. This isn't a slight against him or his abilities. Rather, it's just a reflection of the fact that most of the filmmakers Cavill worked with didn't know how to best utilize his style of acting and physical prowess. For example: a lot has already been said about how Cavill's acting and looks were wasted on a dour and deconstructive Superman. Similarly, his time as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher and his passion for the source material was squandered by the adaptation's subpar quality. The same could be said for his performance as Theseus in Immortals.

Quick Links Kellan Lutz Before Due Justice Kellan Lutz's Twilight Run What Is Due Justice About?
Released on Prime Video on November 24, 2023, Twilight star Kellan Lutz is enjoying a surge in viewership with his new action movie Due Justice. Although it holds a lowly 26% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a 3.6 IMDb score, the film shows a much different side of Lutz than fans of the Twilight series are used to seeing him when he played Emmett Cullen from 2008 to 2012.
Due Justice is a vicious revenge thriller that, despite its formulaic familiarity, has performed much better on the streaming platform than it did in a limited theatrical release. For Lutz, it will be interesting to see if the movie's newfound popularity will lead to new acting opportunities or if the low ratings will hinder his future projects.

Exclusive: Saddle up! One of the great westerns is getting a remake.
Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood classic A Fistful Of Dollars is set for a movie remake from Euro Gang Entertainment, the company founded by Hollywood vet Gianni Nunnari (300) and Simon Horsman (Magazine Dreams), alongside Italian production vet Enzo Sisti (Ripley) of Fpc, and Rome-based Jolly Film, which produced the original movie.
Hit western A Fistful of Dollars is the story of a wandering gunfighter with no name who plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.
The film, released in the mid ’60s, helped launch the “spaghetti western” genre and Eastwood’s career (and others including that of composer Ennio Morricone). Its huge success spawned two more films in an iconic trilogy also comprising For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly, all starring Eastwood.

Henry Cavill has become one of the most underappreciated actors in Hollywood. Over the past few years, fans have seen an incredibly talented actor, with great knowledge about the projects he takes up, get mistreated over and over again. Starting with his award-worthy performance as Superman, being one of the best people suited for the role, and continuing on with the disloyalties of The Witcher.

You can’t make a silly mistake anywhere near a nerd like Henry Cavill. During an interview in 2011 at the premiere of his movie, Immortals, Cavill destroyed a reporter with his knowledge of Greek mythology. When the reporter asked him about playing a demigod in the film, the Man of Steel actor immediately replied that his character was not a demigod in the myths.

British actor Henry Cavill has arrayed a wide range of roles in his screen career, but to the average moviegoer, he is probably best known as the most recent Superman in the four DC Comics films under the tutelage of Zack Synder. Despite his obvious physical strengths, Cavill’s performances in the dual roles of Clark Kent and the “Man of Steel” are considered by many to be more character-based than in other editions that reflects his priorities as an actor.
In fact, Cavill has taken on a number of other iconic characters in his career, from Sherlock Holmes in two “Enola Holmes” films, superspy Napoleon Solo in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and even the mythological Theseus in “Immortals.” And while he usually portrays heroes, he’s not afraid of being a bad guy now and then, most notably as Tom Cruise’s nemesis in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”

Above: 1980 Japanese poster for Apocalypse Now. Design by Eiko Ishioka, artwork by Haruo Takino. With Francis Ford Coppola’s long-gestated Megalopolis having premiered yesterday at Cannes, it's a good time to look back at the posters from his 60-year-long career. The only problem is that many posters for his films are either too well known or nothing to write home about. Like Coppola’s career itself, there are peaks and valleys—one of my very first posts for Notebook, almost exactly fifteen years ago, was about the gorgeous design for The Rain People (1969)—but a career retrospective of his posters seems like it might result in less than the sum of its parts. Yet of all his posters there are three rare Japanese designs that have always stood out as utterly extraordinary: two for Apocalypse Now (1979) and one for Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992).I’ve always seen these posters attributed to Eiko Ishioka,...

Henry Cavill's dedication to portraying Superman involved both physical and emotional depth. Cavill's commitment to his superhero physique through intense workouts and an increased calorie intake was a key factor in making his Superman portrayal convincing and impressive. The six-month training regimen Cavill underwent to prepare for his role as Superman in Man of Steel resulted in a muscular and powerful physique that set him apart from other actors who have played the iconic character.
The Dceu had a tumultuous run since 2013s Man of Steel, but Henry Cavills commitment to the role of Superman only seems to age better with time. Before making his Dceu debut, Cavill had starred in only a handful of films, like the Greek mythological epic Immortals and the fantasy adventure Stardust. But Zack Snyders Man of Steel and the subsequent Dceu movies turned him into a household name, winning over many a Superman fan.

Despite past successes in blockbuster films, Henry Cavill's recent box office numbers have been disappointing. Both "Argylle" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" have underperformed financially. The upcoming Highlander reboot starring Cavill might face challenges at the box office given his recent trend of disappointing returns.
Henry Cavill has a big franchise reboot coming up, but based on his recent box office numbers, it may be in some trouble. Though widely loved and celebrated, the actor's last few films haven't brought in as much money as he might have hoped. In fact, the last time Cavill had a theatrical release that performed exceptionally well was back in 2018. Though the star has had a variety of other successful endeavors, the projects hitting theaters in recent years just haven't been cutting it. Unfortuantely, this makes the promise of a Highlander movie reboot a little more concerning.

Candid, confident, and ready to build a computer shirtless or play Warhammer 40k with new friends in the press, Henry is both a strapping gentleman and a nerd's nerd.

Henry Cavill may not be reprising his role as the Man of Steel anytime soon, but fans don’t need to burst into tears for him. The Hollywood Reporter discovered that the actor was paid a whopping $250,000 ‘each’ for his brief appearances in Black Adam and The Flash.
Yes, that’s what it is—a quarter of a million dollars for just a few minutes of screen time. Not bad for a day’s work, right? While some may feel sorry for Cavill for not getting the chance to star in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman release, it’s abundantly clear that the actor isn’t hurting for cash. Also, compared to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, the Immortals actor received a higher salary for his brief cameos in other DC flicks.

Mythology offers some of the most enduring and rich stories when it comes to epic storytelling. And at the top of the pantheon of mythical figures sits Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology. Throughout Hollywood history, many stars have tried their hands at playing this powerful deity, with varying degrees of success.
Having said that, it makes sense that we should honor the actors who gorgeously portrayed Zeus on screen. Since he is the undisputed leader of Mount Olympus, it is about time he had his own list. Those who have portrayed Zeus on screen have done so with a certain stoicism that is more in line with ancient Greek depictions.

Revolutions bring hope for a better life and strength in community. “Immortals,” a documentary about young Iraqi activists, deals with the aftermath of 2019’s October Protest Movement. What happens when the promise of a better life has been hijacked by insidious political forces? An insightful look into the social and political fabric of modern Iraq, Maja Tschumi’s film shows the quiet desperation of losing hope and having raging emotions that cannot be outwardly expressed. It also chronicles the plight of a generation who shares their dreams and frustrations with other people around the world suffering from similar oppressions.
Although “Immortals” captures the specificity, language and culture of Iraq, the aspirations of the activists it follows mirror those of others in Sudan or Iran, to name just two other places where recently youth have shown that they demand change. Paris-based outfit Cat&Docs has acquired world sales for “Immortals,” the sophomore feature film by Swiss director Maja Tschumi (“Rotzloch”). The film will compete in the main competition at leading European documentary festival Cph:dox, and will also screen at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in the Open Horizon section.
Catherine Le Clef, president and CEO of Cat&Docs, said the “striking film” had “the potential of becoming a cult film of its genre.”
It tells the story of Milo, a feminist who sneaks out of the house dressed as a man so she can take part in the October 2019 protest movement in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square, and Khalili, a young filmmaker who uses his camera as a weapon to document the bloody crackdown on the youth demonstrations.
