In a year when there were four $100 million-plus auteur-driven movies — one of which, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, recently misfired — Warners Bros distribution has taken the pressure off the studios’ schedule in that regard, and even placed a potential tentpole into the year: Zach Cregger’s anticipated genre movie Weapons on August 8.

Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong has received a brand-new streaming update, after four years since making its theatrical release. The fourth MonsterVerse movie was led by Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews and Millie Bobby Brown as Madison Russell, who are both connected to the secret government organization Monarch.

Starting on April 1, Godzilla vs. Kong will officially be available to stream for free on Tubi. New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.

Previously, very little had been revealed from the remake. The only shot that's been released of Toxie was from behind the character, keeping his appearance mostly a mystery. Per Entertainment Weekly, that has changed with brand-new images released of the new Toxie. Check out the new photos below.

In the film, Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a chemical factory janitor who becomes transformed into a monstrous mutant after a freak industrial accident. He uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante, targeting the town's criminals. EW reports that actor and movement artist Luisa Guerreiro provides the physical performance of Toxie underneath the makeup and costume.

Exclusive: Lincoln Child’s New York Times bestselling book series Jeremy Logan, is being put into feature development at Amazon MGM Studios with Safehouse Pictures producing.

Jeremy Lott and Cory Goodman are writing the script. The film will follow Jeremy Logan who is a self-proclaimed “enigmatologist,” an investigator who works to debunk the paranormal and unexplained using modern science. The Jeremy Logan books include the Child’s novels Deep Storm, Terminal Freeze, The Third Gate, The Forgotten Room, Full Wolf Moon, and Chrysalis.

The film will fall under Safehouse Pictures’ first-look film deal with the studio, with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell producing.

Now, Deadline has broken the news that Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), who recently co-created the shows Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is teaming with Legendary Television for re-imaginings of three of those Allen shows: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants.

Delroy Lindo is the latest star to join the ever-growing MonsterVerse. The actor, known for his standout roles in Da 5 Bloods and Get Shorty, is set to appear in the next Godzilla x Kong movie from Legendary.

A date is now on the calendar for the reboot of The Toxic Avenger. After it was recently reported that the film was aiming for a release this year, the film's exact theatrical release date has just been announced.

Per Deadline, Cineverse has dated The Toxic Avenger for a Labor Day weekend release in theaters on Aug. 29, 2025. It will mark a wait of about two years for the film to get its wide release after first premiering at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, in September 2023. Fans have been anticipating the release, especially with the reboot garnering unexpectedly high praise from critics who caught it at Fantastic Fest. To say that it’s a time of change at the Burbank lot is an understatement.

The year 2025 marks a time of rebuild for the House of Barbie, with an auteur-charged slate of 13 titles anchored by Superman, James Gunn’s feature blast-off to his new DC studio.

Arguably, it’s the first year that Motion Picture Group co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy can entirely call their own since taking the reins in the summer of 2022, without any previous regime blemishes, though the two have been involved in the post-production of inherited titles.

Gareth Edwards' underrated sci-fi film finds streaming success two years after its release. The British filmmaker made his feature directorial debut and first rose to prominence with his 2010 sci-fi horror film, Monsters, an independent production made on a small budget of $500,000, with Edwards also serving as the cinematographer, production designer, and a visual effects artist. From there, he graduated on to directing the big-budget monster movie, 2014's Godzilla, which served as the first film in Legendary's Monsterverse franchise.

Next, Edwards took on one of the most highly coveted jobs in Hollywood, directing a Star Wars movie. He helmed Rogue One, which experienced a troubled production, and it was co-writer Tony Gilroy who oversaw the film's extensive reshoots. When Legendary began the MonsterVerse in 2014, some were skeptical. As much as the 1998 Godzilla movie was fun, it wasn't filled with that grounded, haunting vibe that modern fans wanted. Similarly, subsequent attempts to rejuvenate the Godzilla franchise fell flat. This is why Legendary pushed on with something that could honor the Toho movies but also add its own flair.

While the first Godzilla by Gareth Edwards was a bit incoherent and didn't balance the human-monster dynamic well, the subsequent films did. To this point, the franchise has veered into straight-up sci-fi fun, with a lot of kaiju roving the planet. As the MonsterVerse has continued expanding, more Titans have been introduced of varying powers. While some, such as Kong, Godzilla, and Mothra are well-known, there are also many lesser-known Titans that we wanted to highlight.

Jason Momoa, star of Warner Bros and DC’s Aquaman films, has been tapped to play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Deadline has confirmed.

Momoa has been linked to the Lobo role since before James Gunn came in to lead DC alongside Peter Safran. He’s been vocal in the past about his interest in the part and today confirmed his attachment to the role in a post on Instagram, where he screenshotted comments from a past interview.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” said the actor. Post Christmas Warner Bros is busy making release date changes for next year before it rings in and beyond. The most prolific move is that Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel is heading from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. Production isn’t scheduled to get started until late summer and with a VFX heavy sequel such as this one, a fall 2026 theatrical release is within reach. The Reeves’ movie will have Imax screens.

Funny enough, Warner Bros always had the first weekend of October 2027 staked out for a DC title.

As the saying goes, every king needs his queen. And the King of the Monsters, Godzilla, the ultimate Titan, has a queen in Legendary's MonsterVerse: Mothra. For a while, Legendary's MonsterVerse has played around with the relationship between Godzilla and Mothra through dialogue and their interesting character dynamic in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It appears Godzilla and Mothra share more than a symbiotic relationship between different species. They are the respective King and Queen of the Monsters, meaning they are husband and wife! Its time to unpack the Godzilla and Mothra relationship.

Exclusive: Legendary Television has acquired the rights to Murdle, a collection of murder mystery puzzles by G. T. Karber, to develop a scripted series based on the best-selling book.

Pacesetter Productions brought the pitch to Legendary, with plans to build out a Murdle universe that will also include films and unscripted series, after acquiring the book in a competitive situation.

Paddington writer Jon Croker will pen the television adaptation, which will be the project to launch this expanded universe. So far, the logline for the series is still being kept under wraps.

More Godzilla is on the way. The Japanese kaiju franchise, which follows the titular giant irradiated lizard either wreaking havoc or defending humanity from other giant monsters, kicked off in 1954. It has since expanded to include 33 Japanese-language Godzilla movies and five English-language installments. Toho has produced and distributed every Japanese installment, most recently the 2023 smash critical and commercial hit Godzilla Minus One.

Via the Godzilla Official X account, Toho has now announced that a new Godzilla movie has been greenlit. The movie will once again be spearheaded by Godzilla Minus One writer, director, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki. The announcement was made via a short video posing as an emergency Sos message, underscored by an urgent snippet of one of the iconic musical themes for the franchise composed by Akira Ifukube. Now Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle is being brought on board to write and direct.  In addition to those duties, Mickle will produce the film along with his partner Linda Moran and their Nightshade company. The series serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's films and focuses on the early days of the powerful Bene Gesserit order. During this weekend's New York Comic Con, DC President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee shared several exciting updates about DC Comics' future plans during his annual "Jim Lee & Friends" panel.

Joined by writer Jeph Loeb, the artist announced a sequel to their acclaimed Batman: Hush series, to be published within the pages of DC’s ongoing Batman comic book series in 2025. A Hush 2 prelude will also be published in DC's Justice League Unlimited #1 on November 27.

There have already been loose sequels to the story, so we're definitely intrigued to learn what leads to another clash between the Dark Knight and Hush over two decades after the original.

Lee also revealed plans to bring back the DC Vertigo imprint as the home of DC's creator-owned comic books, graphic novels and collected editions.

Although the Phase 5 movie is the end of James Gunn's trilogy and the last time the original Guardians of the Galaxy team will be seen together, not all the characters are exiting the franchise. Chris Pratt's days of playing Peter Quill will continue, as Guardians of the Galaxy 3's post-credits scene confirmed that the Legendary Star-Lord will return. Where that will happen is less clear.

“Dune: Part Two” producer Mary Parent said that despite her own success working on big-budget productions, it’s “harder to get in” now than it was when she started her career decades ago.

“It’s harder to get in. The paths that used to exist don’t. I think that’s really impacted everything,” Parent said at TheWrap’s annual Grill conference on Tuesday, observing that the field has been dominated historically by men, especially on “big films.”

“Those were the films I wanted to make,” Parent said.

The lack of progress for female producers in the business was raised by former New York Times journalist Laura Holson who moderated the panel which included Lucy Fisher, the producer of “Gladiator II” opens next month, and veteran executive and producer Sue Naegle, who produced this awards season contender “Nightbitch.” Holson cited data reflecting that between 1998 and 2023, the number of female producers...

Like all the movies that are part of Legendary's Monsterverse, the latest chapter Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is loaded with references to Toho's classic Godzilla movies. The fifth movie in the interconnected universe of planet-shaping kaiju saw the two most famous monsters in movie history temporarily put aside their long-standing Titan rivalry to take down a threat that would be too much for either to defeat on their own. The Monsterverse has provided a good mix of original Titans and iconic creatures from Godzilla's gallery of friends and foes, and Godzilla X Kong features some of both.

The narrative that plays out in Godzilla X Kong takes the Monsterverse, and the characters of Godzilla and Kong in general, to new, fantastic heights. However, moving the franchise into new territory does not mean that the movie ignores the extensive history of the beloved monsters at its core.

Exclusive: LA’s Micheaux Film Festival will officially run at The Culver Theater in Culver City from October 21 to October 27 with a selection of short and feature projects with talent such as Viola Davis and Morris Chestnut. Scroll down to see the featured lineup.

The festival, launched by Courtney L. Branch and Noel Braham to honor the legendary Oscar Micheaux, celebrates its sixth anniversary this year. This year’s lineup includes more than 250 short films, feature films, and new media series with additional projects screening virtually. Titles include The Ebony Canal, a 46-minute feature on Black infant mortality rates narrated by Viola Davis. Also screening is The Origin, a project produced by Morris Chestnut, and Tea, a short project from filmmaker Blake Winston Rice featuring Michael Gandolfini.

The next film in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise, which is populated by the likes of Godzilla, Kong, and other Titans, won’t be reaching theatre screens until March 26, 2027 – but while we wait for that film, another season of the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is in the works, and it has just been announced that Legendary is set to send three Godzilla and Kong video games out into the world!

Production on Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippous newest horror movie with A24 has officially been completed. This comes after over a year since Talk to Me had its theatrical release worldwide, which served as the filmmaking duos feature directorial debut.

Posted on Instagram, the Philippou brothers shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Bring Her Back, revealing that they had just wrapped up filming in Australia. In their post, they expressed their gratitude to the crew for helping them throughout the "rough, tough, slodgy" production, teasing that the upcoming movie will be set in a different environment from their first horror movie. "It was a rough, tough, slodgy shoot, but we pulled through! Our crew was incredible!!" They wrote. "Thank you A24 for making this happen.
