Blake Lively at an event for Piégée (2011)
Blake Lively is set to star in Lionsgate’s upcoming romantic comedy ‘The Survival List,’ described as an “action romantic comedy” with a sharp twist on the stranded-on-an-island formula.

But when a shipwreck strands the pair on a deserted island, Annie quickly learns that Chopper’s rugged persona is nothing more than smoke and mirrors—he has no survival skills at all. Guy Pearce & Jack O’Connell in talks for Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’, a drama on Rupert Murdoch’s media empire
Danny Boyle
Danny Boyle is heading back to the big screen with a story as wild as anything in his filmography — the birth of Britain’s tabloid newspaper wars. And he’s bringing some serious acting muscle with him: Guy Pearce and Jack O’Connell are both in talks to star in ‘Ink.’

Pearce, the Oscar-nominated star of ‘Memento’ and ‘L.A. Confidential,’ is circling the role of none other than Rupert Murdoch, the ruthless media mogul who would go on to build a global empire. O’Connell is eyeing the role of Larry Lamb, the hungry young editor Murdoch hired in 1969 to take over The Sun after he bought the struggling paper. Together,...

Guy Pearce Circling Lead Role In Danny Boyle’s Rupert Murdoch Movie Ink
Image
Earlier this year, Danny Boyle returned to the big screen with 28 Years Later, a horrifying examination of the dark side of humanity, the insidious capacity of the media to shape society in its image, and — basically — where it all went wrong for us Homo sapiens. Continuing in that vein then, Boyle's next movie will be Ink, which is set to detail media mogul Rupert Murdoch's rise to power in the late 1960s. And, according to THR, The Brutalist Oscar nominee Guy Pearce is currently in talks to play the mega-rich magnate.

Per THR's reporting, negotiations are ongoing for Aussie actor Pearce to take on the role of Rupert Murdoch in the movie, which writer James Graham has adapted from his own same-named 2017 play. What's more, Jack O'Connell — who so memorably showed up as the tracksuit rocking Jimmy during 28 Years Later's bonkers ending — is being eyed to co-star as Larry Lamb,...

Guy Pearce in Talks to Star as Rupert Murdoch in Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’

Guy Pearce, who is coming off his recent Oscar nomination, is circling a starring role as media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Pearce is in talks to lead director Danny Boyle’s movie Ink, which is set to center on Murdoch’s path to power. The film from Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions also has Jack O’Connell eyeing a role as Larry Lamb, the late editor of The Sun.

Boyle helms the film from a script by James Graham, who adapted his play of the same name that opened in London in 2017. In his 2019 review for The Hollywood Reporter of the Broadway run that earned two Tonys, critic David Rooney wrote that the play “has undeniable currency in the era of Brexit and Trump.”

Ink is set in 1969 and focuses on Murdoch acquiring struggling newspaper The Sun and hiring Lamb to run it. The film’s team is planning to begin shooting in October.

Stand Down, Youngs. Old People Are Taking Over TV
Image
Ted Danson was 34 when Cheers debuted in the fall of 1982, on the younger side for a TV star at the time. That season’s top 10 highest-rated shows included a few other thirtysomething leads in Tom Selleck on Magnum, P.I. and John Ritter in Three’s Company, but for the most part, the hits of the small screen were built around actors in their fifties (Larry Hagman on Dallas, George Peppard on The A-Team) or sixties (John Forsythe in Dynasty, Jane Wyman in Falcon Crest). By the time Cheers ended a dozen years later,...

Ted Danson May Have Broken a TV Record With His Latest Sitcom
Image
It’s hard to imagine a time when Ted Danson wasn’t on TV. After all, he spent a whopping 11 seasons playing Sam Malone on Cheers, six years as Dr. John Becker on Becker, and, more recently, took on the part of a 6,000-foot tall tentacled fire demon who's taken on the form of a 6-foot-2 silver fox in The Good Place.

Not to mention the fact that he regularly popped up on Curb Your Enthusiasm, effortlessly inhabiting what was perhaps his greatest role to date: Ted Danson.

Now Danson has a brand new show coming out: A Man on the Inside. While it may sound like the title of a self-help book written by Tobias Fünke, it’s actually a new Netflix comedy that reteams Danson with The Good Place and Parks and Recreation producer Mike Schur.

A Man on the Inside is reportedly an adaptation of The Mole Agent,...

There is no dialogue in this new film. Rather, Myth of Man will be what Winans calls, 'musically driven'. Winans also scored the film.    Check out the images below the announcement. We appreciate the design and esthetic, almost steam-punkish.    Writer/Director Jamin Winans shares the first images from his upcoming sci-fi fantasy feature, aiming for a fall 2024 premiere.   Fifteen years after the breakout sci-fi indie hit Ink and his follow up...

Image
Exclusive: Tony- and Olivier Award-winning actor Bertie Carvel, who portrays Tony Blair opposite Imelda Staunton’s Queen Elizabeth II in the final season of The Crown, remembers meeting the the real Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace “and nearly head-butting” her “in my attempt to try not to be too obsequious, but to follow the right form.”

He still has a photo of him being introduced to the monarch at an event nine years ago. “I look like the Mr. Bean sketch where he bows and knocks her out. I’m so towering over the queen and I look like I really should have gone to the barber, and I was red-faced and hairy.”

Well, The Crown’s crack hair and makeup team led by designer Cate Hall has ensured that he’s respectfully coiffured to portray Blair.

Proudly, he adds that on his fridge is the badge palace officials handed him at the event,...

Bertie Carvel on Playing Two Roles in ‘The Crown’ and His Tony Blair in Final Episodes
Image
Queen Elizabeth has been played by numerous actors over the years — three in Netflix’s The Crown alone. But tracking not far behind when it comes to onscreen depictions of major British figures is former prime minister Tony Blair. Among the names to have stepped into the shiny brogues of the divisive politician are the likes of Damien Lewis, Robert Lindsay, Toby Stephens, James Larkin, Ioan Gruffudd, Stephen Mangan, Harry Enfield and Pierce Brosnan (as a version of Blair in Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer). Michael Sheen has also famously played Blair three times.

Joining this illustrious list is Bertie Carvel, the star of stage and screen who joined The Crown for its final outings in seasons five and six. While he’s mostly a supporting bystander in season five, the sixth and final season of Netflix’s hit royal drama — which centered its first four episodes, now streaming,...

Brit Industry Stands on Strengths and Talent to Push Post-Pandemic Production
Image
The value of film production in the U.K. climbed 7% to £1.96 billion ($2.42 billion) last year, the second-highest level on record. The vast majority of that was generated by Hollywood movies, but although the British independent sector is overshadowed commercially, it is holding its own creatively.

Despite the pain and disruption caused by the coronavirus crisis, Adrian Wootton, CEO of the British Film Commission, is confident that the production boom that the U.K. was enjoying pre-lockdown will resume. Underpinning that is the 25% tax rebate for production, a strong and growing studio infrastructure, a thriving VFX sector, and a rich vein of talent behind and in front of the camera, Wootton says.

Apart from Covid-19, another cloud looming is Brexit, the full effect of which will only be felt at the end of the year. The VFX sector is particularly vulnerable, as a third of its workforce is from European Union countries.
