Originally from Mississippi, Sam Malone has built his life and career in New Orleans, surrounded by a large and loving extended family. He began his journey in performance at Louisiana State University under the tutelage of the late, great John Dennis. After graduation, he performed professionally on stage, including August Wilson's Jitney with Anthony Bean Community Theatre and William Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus.
Sam went on to earn a Master's degree in Theatre with a concentration in Performance at the University of New Orleans, culminating in his thesis production as Hamlet. He later returned to the stage to play Polonius in Tulane Shakespeare's 2019 production of Hamlet.
Some of Sam Malone's most significant recent credits in film and television include Warner Bros.' feature Sinners, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, in which Sam plays the pivotal role of Terry opposite Michael B. Jordan. Sinners became a cultural and box-office success, grossing over $365 million worldwide and receiving praise as one of Coogler's boldest works.
Sam also starred in Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins' limited series The Underground Railroad on Amazon Prime, where he garnered the leading guest star role as Moses.
