Half of a very good film.

Cast is excellent as is the way it was shot. Very well put together for the first half then it just for lack of a better word loops. There's no progress to make up what should be the second half of the movie and maybe that's its attempt at karmic balance. If anything in the storyline had actually evolved from the earlier repetitions we'd have ourselves a whole movie and a very good one. As it is the enthusiastic beginning just barely escapes being canceled out by the artsy fartsy ending.

This film is worth watching if only because there's a terrific half done film which was better executed than a lot actually possessing an ending. Worth a look if you are a film junkie like myself but dabblers will be holding this one against you so make sure their viewing was voluntary.

    Underrated Surrealistic Ne-Noir

Fortunately, I didn't let the low ratings this film has received dissuade me from seeing it. Borrowing elements from filmmakers such as the Coen brothers, David Lynch, and David Cronenburg, the writer/director of "Nobody" managed to create his own unique and surreal neo-noir movie. The cinematography and production design is visually stunning, and the meticulously crafted script originated the kind of narrative thread that was later used in the more highly praised "Triangle." The story is not a confusing mess that randomly ends without any closure, as some have suggested; rather, it is a narrative in which the resolution (or lack of) is inextricably tied to the beginning (as was the case in the movie "Memento"). As in all noir films, the mystery is unraveled by an eventual understanding of past events; however, circumstances occurring in the story have led to these past events being revisited in an unusual way. It's unfortunate that this narrative has been the object of all its criticisms, as the narrative is precisely what makes this film so interesting and unique.

Non-Linear Movie that tries too hard...

The acting is actually very good. If you watched each scene by itself, you would probably like that individual scene. But in total, this movie falls very flat.

It tries to be something great, but doesn't know where to go with it. You start getting hooked on something then the movie says "that's enough of that, let's move on and try to confuse you." What's worse is the writer/director have no idea how to end it, so that's what they do...they just end it. Worth watching if you are a film student, or want to watch something very different.

I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants to be entertained though, it does not do that on any level.

    Bizarre but brilliant

Let me start off by saying this movie makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I did find that annoying like other reviewers and wanted some sort of conclusion. However, the acting done by the entire cast and just for the mere sake of artwork this is a film I will respect and most likely watch over and over again, trying to make sense out of it. The best I can offer is that it is a nightmare - there are so many questions I have about this film that are left unanswered. But just the sheer brilliance of being able to confuse me and intrigue me as a viewer has earned the right to place it in an element of needing to watch it again. The best movies for me are ones that can evoke emotion from me, and while this movie once again made absolutely no sense - I thoroughly enjoyed being led through the bizarre and unreal journey. I loved Costas Mandylor as an actor before this film for his delivery and tough guy attitude that he conveys in most of his films. After seeing it I can also say that I now highly respect him as an actor. I am sure his role in the film was extremely challenging to play and he did it with conviction. This movie doesn't resolve anything and is highly confusing - I wouldn't want to watch it often. Once again however, I respect it for the art that it is and I am sure I will be watching it again. In terms of recommending the movie, I would only recommend it to people that I know would enjoy the kind of mental torture and art aspect of this film. I don't believe this film is for the general public and I would warn anyone before watching this film that they should be prepared to be thoroughly discombobulated.

"The World I'm Walking Through Is Irrational And Absurd!"...

In NOBODY, we follow Mortemain (Costas Mandylor) as he traverses a dark and sinister netherworld. All we know about him is that he's a hitman, he's carrying a package, and he's been shot.

There's an old blind woman with a riddle to solve.

Bits and pieces of information start to add up along the way, as the story slowly reveals its secrets.

This has rightfully been called a "neo-noir" film. It's setting is shadowy and bleak, and it's got the mysterious antihero-type man up against the clock. There's also a definite "Macguffin" - What the hell is in the package?

Some have compared it to works from Cronenberg or Lynch. Yes, movies like SPIDER or LOST HIGHWAY do come to mind. While this film doesn't reach those heights, it is good.

NOBODY is a tale of murder, retribution, karma, and absolution. In the end, it makes its own strange sort of sense...
