Well made,.....but...

I really tried, I did.. Great sound editing, acting was good, well shot movie....but repetitious and not in a good way. Made me want to find something interesting in my pocket to stare at. I fully support independent films, And I loved the David Lynch meets Millers Crossing style....but I could not help being bored and annoyed. The 3 other people who saw this with me were not as nice in their critique. One fell asleep. Another became noticeably angry and irritated. The last just kept fidgeting and sighing. Hearing the same lines of dialog 3-4 times just doesn't work in this film. I would see something else by the director though, shows promise.

Non-Linear Movie that tries too hard...

The acting is actually very good. If you watched each scene by itself, you would probably like that individual scene. But in total, this movie falls very flat.

It tries to be something great, but doesn't know where to go with it. You start getting hooked on something then the movie says "that's enough of that, let's move on and try to confuse you." What's worse is the writer/director have no idea how to end it, so that's what they do...they just end it. Worth watching if you are a film student, or want to watch something very different.

I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants to be entertained though, it does not do that on any level.

Save yourself

The slow pace and repetition of scenes is obnoxious and just when you start to get sucked in because you think that one unifying element will be revealed to tie the whole movie together, you get squat. The film probably took all of three days to film since most of the work was done in the editing room. You spend most of the film watching the same scenes over and over again with some slight variation in perspective. Barely one and a half hours long, it felt like a 3 hour torture chamber. The acting, dialog and the look of the film were all impressive, the screenplay simply fell short. The film tries really hard to say something in a cryptic, pretentious format, but lacks any actual discernible point. Nobody should see this film.

Underrated Surrealistic Ne-Noir

Fortunately, I didn't let the low ratings this film has received dissuade me from seeing it. Borrowing elements from filmmakers such as the Coen brothers, David Lynch, and David Cronenburg, the writer/director of "Nobody" managed to create his own unique and surreal neo-noir movie. The cinematography and production design is visually stunning, and the meticulously crafted script originated the kind of narrative thread that was later used in the more highly praised "Triangle." The story is not a confusing mess that randomly ends without any closure, as some have suggested; rather, it is a narrative in which the resolution (or lack of) is inextricably tied to the beginning (as was the case in the movie "Memento"). As in all noir films, the mystery is unraveled by an eventual understanding of past events; however, circumstances occurring in the story have led to these past events being revisited in an unusual way. It's unfortunate that this narrative has been the object of all its criticisms, as the narrative is precisely what makes this film so interesting and unique.

Bizarre but brilliant

Let me start off by saying this movie makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I did find that annoying like other reviewers and wanted some sort of conclusion. However, the acting done by the entire cast and just for the mere sake of artwork this is a film I will respect and most likely watch over and over again, trying to make sense out of it. The best I can offer is that it is a nightmare - there are so many questions I have about this film that are left unanswered. But just the sheer brilliance of being able to confuse me and intrigue me as a viewer has earned the right to place it in an element of needing to watch it again. The best movies for me are ones that can evoke emotion from me, and while this movie once again made absolutely no sense - I thoroughly enjoyed being led through the bizarre and unreal journey. I loved Costas Mandylor as an actor before this film for his delivery and tough guy attitude that he conveys in most of his films. After seeing it I can also say that I now highly respect him as an actor. I am sure his role in the film was extremely challenging to play and he did it with conviction. This movie doesn't resolve anything and is highly confusing - I wouldn't want to watch it often. Once again however, I respect it for the art that it is and I am sure I will be watching it again. In terms of recommending the movie, I would only recommend it to people that I know would enjoy the kind of mental torture and art aspect of this film. I don't believe this film is for the general public and I would warn anyone before watching this film that they should be prepared to be thoroughly discombobulated.

Half of a very good film.

Cast is excellent as is the way it was shot. Very well put together for the first half then it just for lack of a better word loops. There's no progress to make up what should be the second half of the movie and maybe that's its attempt at karmic balance. If anything in the storyline had actually evolved from the earlier repetitions we'd have ourselves a whole movie and a very good one. As it is the enthusiastic beginning just barely escapes being canceled out by the artsy fartsy ending.

This film is worth watching if only because there's a terrific half done film which was better executed than a lot actually possessing an ending. Worth a look if you are a film junkie like myself but dabblers will be holding this one against you so make sure their viewing was voluntary.

Thriller! Chiller!

Saw this film at Thriller! Chiller! in Grand Rapids, Michigan and it's fantastic! A true neo-noir masterpiece on par with anything Hollywood could possibly throw at the viewer except that Nobody doesn't treat the audience as stupid and offers us a prime example of digital film-making at it's finest.

The acting, the cinematography, the art direction, the sound design, the story, the kitchen sink, etc., etc., all work so well together that I was totally absorbed from the first frame to the last.

Mr. Linden and his cast/crew did a marvelous job in what I can only simply describe as The Third Man meets Primer without spoiling it for anyone.

Search out this film and decide for yourself.

Loopy, Beautifully Made Neo-Noir that is Incomprehensibly Interesting

Ultimately Watchable with some Stunning Dark Cinematography, Color, and Expressionistic Elements. The Look of the Thing is the Thing here and if You are Compelled by Non-Linear Story Formats, and Dreamlike Presentations, this Movie is a Must.

But be Advised it is a Dense Screenplay with not a lot that is Easy Going Intellectually. It's Neo-Noir Niche is Derivative of David Lynch and the Coen Brothers. The Acting is Surprisingly Well Done and the Movie is a Fascinating Alternate-Universe with Perplexing Turns and Supernatural Elements.

For a Low-Budget Indie this is an Excellent Effort and the Film is Beautifully Framed with some Interesting Camera Angles and the Dialog is Spiffy, Although Most of the Movie is Mentally Challenging in a Good-Bad Way. But it is Interesting All the Way.

Great Indy Film

We recently screened it at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland Oregon and I must say that I loved this film.

This is a thinking man's movie done in period with an excellent cast. I can't really go into depth about the film with out revealing the cause and effect mechanism. It reminds me a little of Memento since it is non-linear and does not have traditional time line. If you love weird tales, film noir, and time paradoxes, then run don't walk to your nearest film festival.

I am not sure were the market is for this one but I hope it fines a home. It is what Indy films are all about.

Where is the "Assassin's Commentary"?

I was listing to the first commentary of the DVD. I believe the producer said something about an "Assassin's Commentary" where it would focus on what was going on in "Noe's" head. So I listened to the second commentary but it didn't sound anything like what the producer described! ...Help please? I must say the movie is rather confusing, but for me it was very interesting. I'm a huge fan of Costas Mandylor and I thought his acting and narration was awesome, and I did enjoy watching it. But once again, it could be very confusing the first time you watch it. It was a unique movie in my opinion. (And its really hard for me to write ten lines...)

Meticulously composed, surreal , excellent film

Every so often there is an indie film that is not only far better than most of what Hollywood makes, but surpasses everything in Hollywood a hundred-fold. Nobody is a dark, foreboding psychological shocker with gorgeous, haunting cinematography, and explosive performances from its leads, Costas Mandylor and Ed O' Ross.

The story takes place in a nameless, virtually empty urban hell hole of a city, where it seems to be perpetually nighttime. (kind of like the city in The Crow, but almost deserted. The hit-man Mortemain (Mandylor) navigates the cluttered alleyways and dank, dimly lit streets looking for his target, contracted out to him by the ruthless crime figure Rolo Towles (O' Ross). Things get murky and surreal when time seems to elipse upon itself like a snake eating its own tale, and Mortemain seems to be stuck in a hellish twilight zone crossed with a rabbit hole in the fabric existence. Events repeat themselves, a mysterious doppleganger of Mortemain appears, time doubles back on itself, and mysterious phenomena plagues the characters, leaving us challenged, freaked out and giddily entertained (well, me anyway).

The films composition is strikingly beautiful for a low budget indie, from the blood red sky along a lonely country road to desolate, snowy streets.

This film is like a mashup of Sin City, Memento, and The Twilight Zone, with its own special and unique flavor. Highly recommended.

exceptional suspense thriller

I was first struck by the artistry of "NOBODY", at the Action on Film Festival in Long Beach, CA, earlier this year. I attended this festival because I am a student of the martial arts, and because another friend/filmmaker was screening at the same festival.

I was absolutely blown out and held intrigued, till the end, by this film!! I rarely am captivated like this, and invite you fans of the thriller genre to check out this work of art. kudos to the cast for your work as Borg :) I can't say enough about how much this film impressed me.

Creepy film noir

I first saw this at Portland's 2007 HPL Film Festival. I say first because I will see this movie at every available opportunity. I can't wait for this to hit DVD.

This has a lot of elements to it that I would like individually in a film. Good acting, mobsters, mood, mobsters, non-linear plots, mobsters, film noir action, mobsters. Ah you get the point.

Shawn Linden does a beautiful job setting the film's table with just the right amount of mood. His choice of shots makes this film. The acting is better than the films budget would normally allow and Shawn does a great job pulling it all together. When you watch this you will be amazed.

He has some serious talent and if he can get bigger budgets then I would not be surprised to see Mr. Linden a household name within a few years. My only complaint is that Shawn should make mythos films!!!!

A mind-f**king film Noir.

If you like mind-f**king movies you'll like this one. A film Noir with a philosophical and existential taste. What if we all are finally "nobody"? What is freedom, crime, and the difference between good and evil if we are here to repeat forever our looping path?

Certainly the fact that it's a very independent movie affects the way it looks and sounds, but sometimes the poorer is the reacher: the script is strong, the framing clever, the image polished. It's like if Orson Welles got a digital camera and mixed Kafka and The Third Man with Nietzsche and some psychoactive drugs.

It's a very little and rare movie, original, full of symbols and archetypes: it could easily start a real cult if more people had access to it. Watch it open minded and enjoy it.

"The World I'm Walking Through Is Irrational And Absurd!"...

In NOBODY, we follow Mortemain (Costas Mandylor) as he traverses a dark and sinister netherworld. All we know about him is that he's a hitman, he's carrying a package, and he's been shot.

There's an old blind woman with a riddle to solve.

Bits and pieces of information start to add up along the way, as the story slowly reveals its secrets.

This has rightfully been called a "neo-noir" film. It's setting is shadowy and bleak, and it's got the mysterious antihero-type man up against the clock. There's also a definite "Macguffin" - What the hell is in the package?

Some have compared it to works from Cronenberg or Lynch. Yes, movies like SPIDER or LOST HIGHWAY do come to mind. While this film doesn't reach those heights, it is good.

NOBODY is a tale of murder, retribution, karma, and absolution. In the end, it makes its own strange sort of sense...
