Missy Elliott’s 1997 debut single “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” was a rocket upon release, and now, it’s in outer space.

NASA has transmitted “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” all the way to Venus, which NASA confirms is Missy Elliott’s favorite planet. The 158 million mile transmission was sent at the speed of light via NASA’s Deep Space Network, which is comprised of a set of giant radio antennas based in Barstow, California. Its radio signal took about 14 minutes to reach Venus.

Elliott’s track is not only the first hip-hop song to be sent to outer space — it’s the second track ever to receive the honor, (fittingly) behind The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.”

The 52-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will launch Out Of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience on July 4. The 24-city trek will visit cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta and Brooklyn, and will wrap on Aug. 22.

Exclusive: Alloy Entertainment’s Head of Film Elysa Dutton has written a children’s book and her employer is turning it into its first animated feature film.

The company is developing Christmas Forever: Escape to the North Pole.

It comes days after Alloy Entertainment boss Leslie Morgenstein reupped his deal with Warner Bros. Television.

The book is to be published in the fall through Penguin/Random House, with illustrations from Manu Montoya.

Dutton and Alloy President and Chief Creative Officer Leslie Morgenstein will produce the project, which is currently out to writers.

Gina Rodriguez (Not Dead Yet), Damon Wayans Jr (The Harder They Fall), and Tom Ellis (Lucifer) lead the cast of Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Players. The streaming service just released the first batch of photos from the rom-com that takes its name from a group of friends who refuse to become emotionally involved in relationships.

The cast also includes Joel Courtney (The Kissing Booth), Augustus Prew (The Morning Show), Liza Koshy (Work It), Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live), and Marin Hinkle (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

2 Chainz and Lil Wayne have released a new single, “Long Story Short,” off their forthcoming joint album, Welcome 2 Collegegrove. The pair will perform the track live on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, Nov. 13.

Welcome 2 Collegegrove will arrive on Nov. 17 via Def Jam Recordings. The album follows the pair’s 2016 collaborative effort ColleGrove, named after 2 Chainz’ hometown of College Park, Georgia, and Lil Wayne’s hometown of Hollygrove, Louisiana. On Friday (November 3), the legendary 52-year-old artist became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame.

Her good friend and fellow rapper, Queen Latifah, introduced Missy with a touching speech.

Missy Elliott celebrated Virginia’s second annual “Missy Elliott Day” in her hometown of Portsmouth by paying $50,000 in past-due rent for 26 families.

According to The Virginian-Pilot, the “Work It” rapper made an appearance at Portsmouth’s Dr. O. Marriner Family Life Center at Grove Church to deliver a check to the city’s Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The ceremony took place one year after the Commonwealth of Virginia designated October 17th “Missy Elliot Day” and Portsmouth renamed a portion of McLean Street after her.

In a brief speech, the Grammy-winning artist shared “Instead of it being a celebration of Missy Elliott, you know about me, I wanted to give back and let that be the celebration of Missy Elliott, just to show that I love everybody out here.”

Built around an ominous beat sampling “Work It” by Missy Elliott, “Kat Food” is a mainly vehicle for Tunechi to lay down some of the fun, hanky-panky-loving rhymes he’s known for. Wayne first started hyping up the song earlier this week on Instagram, sharing a video of a street team putting up posters for a lost “kat” with instructions to “please text Lil Wayne” if it’s found.

The single follows “Kant Nobody,” Wayne’s most recent release from earlier this year, which featured a posthumous verse from Dmx. Both songs are supposedly part of Weezy’s upcoming record The Carter VI, but no release date or further details have been shared.
