    Hilarious!

Best line of the episode is when Andy doesn't go out of the 'haunted house' with Barney & Gomer. Barney realizes Andy isn't with them, & Gomer says "I guess that makes you sheriff now".

This episode and The Flintstones episode "A Haunted House is Not a Home"

Harvey Bullock wrote this episode in 1963 and, the following year, he wrote The Flintstones' episode "A Haunted House is Not a Home". Both are among the funniest episodes on both shows. Both feature a picture with moving eyes. And, the voice of Uncle Giggles on The Flintstones' episode is Hal Smith--Otis on The Andy Griffith Show!

A superb comedy entry of the show.

This entry of the Andy Griffith Show is a wonderful comic episode of the series. Starting out with trying to find a lost baseball in an old house, Andy and company run upon lots of spooky happenings. You know there will be a logical ending, but what a fun ride this episode is. Don Knotts and Jim Nabors play the scary-cats to a hilt. They make this episode enjoyable to watch no matter how many times you've seen it. I especially love the part where they enter the house with Andy. The three of them walk shoulder-to-shoulder, and even bend over together in unison at one point. Andy is the straight guy, of course, figuring out what is going on in the end. Before they get started to the house, be sure and listen to what Otis chants as he is jumping a rope in the jail. It's rather funny. If you are a collector of Andy Griffith episodes, you'll definitely want this one.

    Haunted or Bust

This is my favorite episode of the show and it's another one of my favorite Halloween episodes. This episode plays out like a live action "Scooby Doo" adventure.

What makes this episode for me is the Mayberry Trio, Andy, Barney, and Gomer. This to me is all three of them at their best as their going though their tour of the house together. You can say that Barney and Gomer are Shaggy and Scooby Doo while Andy being the straight man as usual is Fred.

I just love the amount of fright both Barney and Gomer exercise as they are going thought he creepy house both barely able to contain it. Really loved one physical comedy moment when both Barney and Gomer were sticking to Andy like glue, you see as Andy is getting Obie's baseball, they bend with him at the same time and even walk with him shoulder to shoulder.

Even some of the small things from Gomer inadvertently finding a secret passageway, eyes on a painting moving, and even finding an axe that may or may not be the murder weapon of the former occupant; it's just priceless seeing Barney's frightful reactions.

This episode is a haunting good time.

    Right Out of the Forties

When Opie and his friend knock a baseball through the window of a notorious "haunted house," they want the ball back but are too afraid to go after it. Barney starts to brag about how tough he is, but when asked to get the ball back he begins to quiver. Soon the threesome of Andy, Barney, and Gomer are at the old house and strange things begin to happen. Don't miss Barney's jump rope efforts.

    • Trivia
The haunted house set uses the same building front in which Mayor Stoner, Clara Johnson (Edwards), Reverend Tucker/Martin and Mrs. Wiley lived. It was re-dressed to look like the rundown Rimshaw place for this episode. On the 40-Acre backlot it was known as the "Aunt Pitty Pat House" since it was also used as Aunt Pitty's home in "Gone With The Wind" (1939). It sat directly to the right of the Taylor home facade on the lot, which was kept out of the camera frame during shooting.
    • Goofs
There would be no way for anyone to look through the Rimshaw portrait eyes, as it hangs over the fireplace, with the chimney directly behind it.
    • Quotes

Barney Fife: All I'm saying is that there are some things beyond the ken of mortal man that shouldn't be tampered with! We don't know everything, Andy! There's plenty goin' on right now in the Twilight Zone that we don't know anything about and I think we oughta stay clear!
