Widower Sheriff Andy Taylor, and his son Opie, live with Andy's Aunt Bee in Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and calming down his cousin Deputy Barney Fife.

When Aunt Bee gets a call from her niece Martha asking if she would take take care of their baby for a week while they attend a wedding, she gladly accepts. She also assures Andy that the baby will be no trouble at all. She's somewhat taken aback however when the baby cries every time she picks her up. Others seem to have no problem, including Andy. She soon finds herself asking anyone who is handy to stop by the house at feeding times, as she's convinced herself that the baby hates her. An emergency of sorts convinces her otherwise.

Barney inadvertently spills the beans when a secret shipment of gold bars passes through Mayberry on its way to Fort Knox.

Barney has to play matchmaker for Thelma Lou's homely, visiting cousin Mary Grace, and sets her up with Gomer Pyle.

Opie and his friends get involved in a scheme selling a worthless product called 'Miracle Salve.'

For the sake of a determined young couple, Andy aims to end an 87-year-old bloodless feud betwixt their daddies.

A new dating service wants to test out its questionnaire that is meant to find people with common interests and pursuits. They focus on Mayberry and soon Goober is filling out the questionnaire. Opie tries to tell him that he's not answering the questionnaire correctly - such as saying he read 30 books a month when in fact he reads that many comic books - but Goober perseveres. Soon, he's on a date with the highly educated designer of the questionnaire and it becomes painfully apparent that they have little in common. As things develop however, she soon finds there may be some advantage to the lifestyle and attraction of small-town living.

Opie and his new friend Tommy are having fun with the new boy's miniature walkie-talkies. They listen in on conversations and the like but Tommy has a sense of humor that not everyone appreciates. When Goober adopts a stray dog, they hide one of the walkie-talkies in the animal's collar and soon the gullible mechanic thinks he has a talking dog. Goober soon makes a fool of himself and the boys think it's quite funny. Andy tries to impress upon them that humiliating people is not funny and teaches Tommy a lesson in what it feels like to be the butt of someone's practical joke.

Mayberry has a new doctor in town who runs into difficulty being accepted because no one wants to be his first patient.

That there may be a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War hero living in Mayberry flatters the town, 'til they learn who it is.

A pop singer stops in town and ends up performing a song that Aunt Bee and Clara wrote on his TV show. Unfortunately, his version of the song does not meet their approval.

Aunt Bee wins a trip to Mexico and takes Clara and Myrtle. When they get back, they aren't even speaking to each other.

Andy takes a trip to Raleigh to visit Barney and ends up making him a hero by solving a series of robberies.

Warren's ESP warns that a picnic will be a disaster for Andy and Helen.

Barney's ready for Andy to get married, but Andy is not. In the situations that follow, Andy may have found someone, unbeknownst to Mayberry's most meddlesome matchmaker.

Aunt Bee heads out of town for a few days, leaving Andy and Opie to take care of themselves. When Peggy volunteers to cook for them, Floyd tries to convince Andy that she's trying to catch a husband.

Opie's new friend Trey is liked by everyone, but Opie becomes jealous when he thinks Andy likes Trey more than him.

Taylor men are slobs, but picking up after themselves when on their own may be the wrong message to send to Aunt Bee, who needs to feel needed.

The infamous con man 'Gentleman' Dan Caldwell beguiles nearly everyone from his cell at Andy's jail - all but Andy.
