    Sweetly hilarious !

This is a wonderfully sweet and extremely funny episode that only seems to improve upon subsequent viewings.

The writing is good, the direction is good, the actors all play their parts very well. The whole show clicks along so smoothly and is so dog-gone funny that it seems like it is over with way too soon! One of the very best episodes, surely in the top 5 I say. Check it out for a smirk,a smile,a giggle, a chuckle,a good laugh, and several knee-slapping guffaws !🤡🌞

    FAMOUS PARTY GIRLS EPISODE.

Series creator Aaron Ruben went the extra mile with this wild episode, definitely one of the most favorite (whatever ya want to call it) of the entire series. It has gotten lots of airplay, especially promo clips. Although years away, you can be sure the writers of LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE borrowed bits and pieces, and with many comediennes to spice it up 70s style.

Andy and Barney have to work late and get mixed up with two winners -- Daphne (Jean Carson) and Skippy (noneother than Joyce Jameson). They make a heck of a team. OUT-rageous, looking for love in all the wrong places and with the wrong guys. The biggest problem is both Andy and Barney are TOO nice, allowing Daphne and Skippy to run circles around them.

Yes, it gets worse. It doesn't take long for Helen and Thelma Lou to spot their new "friends," and jealousy rears its ugly head TWICE. Lots of goofy scenes here; the dance with EVERYBODY, including Gomer and Goober (who are escorting Helen and Thelma Lou?) is about as crazy as it gets. Listen to the band playing "When the Saints Go Marching In!" And other tunes. IT ALL FITS.

Jean Carson, who should have landed her own sitcom, handled both dramatic and comedy roles for years. She also had that famous Gravel Gertie voice. Joyce Jameson went onto become a cult star in two Roger Corman thrillers, TALES OF TERROR (playing Peter Lorre's wife) and COMEDY OF TERRORS. Joyce was also a master of voices and characterizations.

Is there a happy ending? The ladies shall return. Stay tuned, thanks much to Aaron Ruben. Ruben also created GOMER PYLE, who had his share of party girls too. No one is ever left out.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 27 remastered dvd box set.

    Released 2007 and 2017. 5 dvds.

    Fun Girls

No matter how many times I see this episode I laugh like it is the first time viewing it. Priceless piece of comedy.

Barney is a victim of circumstance...

    ... at least at first.

Andy and Barney are working at night trying to get some work done that is required by the state. They've had to tell Helen and Thelma Lou they can't go to the movies tonight because of this extra work.

Barney goes out for awhile and "the fun girls" tag along. They recognized Barney in the diner and would not take no for an answer when it came to coming over to the courthouse. They are bleached blonde, loud talking, loud dressing, quick to get into it with each other, and no respecter of personal space. They won't leave unless both Andy and Barney agree to drive them back to Mt. Pilot. It did make me wonder how they got there in the first place. Unfortunately, Thelma Lou and Helen, on the way out of the movies, see Andy and Barney getting into the squad car with the girls hanging on them and figure they've been lied to. Complications ensue.

The next day Andy blames Barney for bringing the girls to the courthouse, when he really had no choice with this headstrong duo. Usually, Andy is quite understanding about Barney's mistakes. Also, Helen and Thelma Lou seemed to be of one mind on how to handle this situation. I'd think at least one would ask for an explanation.

Also note that this episode is the first with George Lindsey as Goober, Gomer's cousin. At this point the show probably knew Jim Nabors was going to his own TV show and this was his replacement at the filling station as mechanic. Of course Goober has the general characteristics of Gomer - rather simple but good hearted and a true friend. But there's just no replacing Jim Nabors as Gomer and the kind of comic timing he had with Don Knotts as Barney.

    A Classic

If you remember the night Andy got a black eye, you will remember the two women he and Barney hooked up with. They are such characters, so uninhibited and so crass. Barney runs into them at the diner and they come back to the courthouse. Thelma Lou and Helen become intensely jealous and things go from there. This is probably the first time we meet Gomer's Cousin Goober, played by George Lindsay.

    • Trivia
Goober is Gomer's cousin. Goober was mentioned as early as season 3's "Man in a Hurry" but not seen until season 4's "Fun Girls." This episode is also the only time Gomer and Goober shared a scene during the series, though they did also appear together once in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964) and in the reunion TV movie Return to Mayberry (1986)).
