“The Irrational” is putting the power of free gifts to the test. In a new Episode 2 clip obtained exclusively by TheWrap, Professor Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin) walks his students though how to use the promise of free merchandise and trips to find someone who doesn’t want to be found.
The clip revolves around a brainstorming session between Alec and his two protégés, psychology grad student Rizwan (Arash DeMaxi) and grad student assistant Phoebe (Molly Kunz). The task? Draw a man out of hiding who doesn’t want to be found.
It only takes a moment before Rizwan suggests using the “power of free” to their advantage. The idea is that someone would be more willing to give up their location if they think they can get something for free out of the deal. Together, Phoebe and Rizwan figure out an organization their target has already accepted merchandise from — a website called ProChessFans.

The long-discussed NBC drama pilot, Cruel Intentions, is now set to move ahead with Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed for the cast. The actress will reportedly reprise the role she played in the 1999 film upon which the pilot is based, and which itself was based on Les Liaisons dangereuses, written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos in 1782.
The film saw Gellar play Kathryn Merteuil – the manipulative, wealthy and influential prep school student who engages in plots and conspiracies to ruin the lives of others. Her efforts eventually involve her step-brother, Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), when she persuades him to seduce her love rival (Selma Blair) in order to get revenge.
Sebastian – himself a manipulative personality – is already engaged in his own plot to de-flower and humiliate the Headmaster’s daughter, Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), but both plans are de-railed when he falls in love with Annette. This angers Kathryn, who escalates her...

There’s something appealingly retro about MTV’s latest scripted offering—and not just because Finding Carter bears a striking resemblance to Caroline B. Cooney’s beloved 1990 novel The Face on the Milk Carton. (You may know it better as the inspiration for a TV movie that aired in 1995).
These days, shows for and about teenagers tend to fall into one of two categories: the Ryan Murphy-esque dramedy (high-energy, soaked with pop culture references, alternating wildly between irony and sincerity; see MTV’s own Faking It or Awkward. for examples), or the Gossip Girl-ian glitzy melodrama (think privileged...

Their relationship began in July 2011, and after two seasons of lighting up the screen together and breaking ground in every direction, they said goodbye to one another in last Friday's season 12 finale.
Fiona and Imogen's relationship was revolutionary for lesbian and bisexual visibility in lots of ways. They weren't Degrassi's first lesbian couple. That honor falls to Paige Michalchuk and Alex Nuñez, who began their journey all the way back in season five, but...

This week's episode of Glee is called "The Break-Up." Apparently all four of the show's power couples — Emma and Will, Rachel and Finn, Kurt and Blaine, and Brittany and Santana — are going to smash into an iceberg, and one of them is going to drown. We're hoping against hope that it won't be Brittana. But just in case, we present a list of TV's saddest lesbian break-ups to prepare us for the pain. Some of these couples broke up for a while, some of them broke up forever, but all of them broke our hearts.

Jane is dragging Maura to bed. Wait, stop. Let me rephrase that. Jane is dragging Maura into helping her in bed. Wait, let me rephrase that again. Jane is dragging her new bed into her apartment and begging Maura to help her. Damn. No matter how I say that it just sounds so gay.
Maybe that is because it is so gay. Here is Jane, in her weekend uniform of tank top and sneakers. She’s carrying her wallet in her mouth because she’s a damn butch who of course only carries a wallet. Though, I must say, slightly bad form on not having pockets. You couldn’t get pants with at least one cargo pocket, honey? And then here is Maura, in her weekend uniform of a form-fitting designer skirt-top ensemble with matching open-toed kitten heels. We're thrilled that Dee Rees's acclaimed feature film Pariah will soon (December 28) be opening in theaters, especially since we've championed Rees and the film since 2007, when Pariah was a short film making the rounds at Lgbt festivals. Rees and company sent us videos documenting their experience at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, where the film was picked up by Focus Features.
In case you aren't familiar with Pariah, it stars Adepero Oduye as Alike, a 17-year-old African-American woman who lives with her parents Audrey and Arthur (Kim Wayans and Charles Parnell) and younger sister Sharonda (Sahra Mellesse) in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood.
Here's the official description via Focus Features:
She has a flair for poetry, and is a good student at her local high school. Alike is quietly but firmly embracing her identity as a lesbian. With the sometimes boisterous support of her best friend, out lesbian Laura...

The actress appeared as a karaoke singer in The Watermelon Woman with her Go Fish co-star Guinevere Turner and Cheryl Dunye in 1996 and didn't return to acting until last year's The Owls. She now lives in Paris.
Guinevere Turner (Max)
Since starring in Go Fish (her first film), Guinevere has went on to write scripts for American Psycho, The Notorious Bettie Page, BloodRayne and episodes of The L Word. She's currently working on Jamie Babbit's new film, Breaking the Girl.

Things move fast in Beverly Hills!
Actor Drew Seeley was set to guest star as newcomer Jeremy this season on "90210" as our West Bev friends head off to their various post-high-school lives.
Unfortunately for him, sources tell Zap2it exclusively that Seeley, best known as Zac Efron's singing voice in the first "High School Musical" and most recently of TBS's '80s college comedy "Glory Daze," called into work sick on Wednesday -- and was promptly replaced.
Unable to rearrange the schedule to accomodate Seeley's sick day, the powers that be at "90210" pulled an eleventh-hour switcheroo. Sources tell us the character will now be played by Matt Cohen, who is familiar to CW fanatics from his role as young John Winchester on "Supernatural." Cohen had auditioned for the role earlier, but was the producers' second choice.
Series star Shenae Grimes, however, knows Cohen from their days on "Degrassi" and "South of Nowhere" respectively,...

In our first annual Top 50 Lesbian and Bi Characters poll, we asked you to vote for your favorite characters from film, television, and internet shows.
You cast your votes, and now we have the results. Before we reveal the winners, let's take a look at some of the trends that emerged.
Almost all of the characters were from films and television shows that made their debut after the year 2000. A few of the exceptions include Kerry Weaver from ER, and the ass-kicking ladies from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
While most of the characters were from Us productions, a fair amount came from international shows, including our top two characters (from the UK show Skins).
Also notable was the fact that some of your favorite characters, the leads from Xena: Warrior Princess (which ran from 1995-2001) and Idgie Threadgood from the film Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), were never officially presented as lesbian or bisexual.

In a Tweet that no doubt lifted the spirits of dejected South of Nowhere fans everywhere, actress Mandy Musgrave announced this weekend that she's been cast as a lesbian on the CW series 90210.
Musgrave will guest star as, Alex, the ex-girlfriend of Gia (played by Rumer Willis) who wants to rekindle their old flame.
Mandy Musgrave
There's no word yet on exactly when Musgrave's episode will air or if her role might recur (or how Alex and Gia's names can best be combined ala "Spashley") but we did check in with the actress to get her thoughts on her new role.
Musgrave told AfterEllen.com:
I am a little nervous, it's always strange going on another set that isn't "yours" ― you can feel really out of place. But they have the same hairdresser who worked on South of Nowhere, so I'm happy to work with him again.

Andrew Stanton, Jim Reardon and Pete Docter walked away with the feature film award for their "Wall-e" screenplay Thursday at the annual Humanitas Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Founded by Rev. Ellwood "Bud" Kieser 35 years ago, the Humanitas prizes reward TV and film writers whose work enriches human understanding. In his acceptance speech, Reardon noted that to keep themselves thematically on-point while writing their script, the "Wall-e" scribes referred to their protagonist as Johnny Humanity-Seed.
Michael R. Strobl and Ross Katz were honored in the 90-minute category for writing the HBO film "Taking Chance," Jason Katims was lauded in the 60-minute category for his "Tomorrow Blues" episode of "Friday Night Lights," and Aseem Batra was feted in the 30-minute category for her "My Last Words" episode of "Scrubs."

Danso Gordon
You may remember that back when The N's South of Nowhere was in its prime, one of its primary cast members, Danso Gordon (who played "Clay Carlin") abruptly quit the show because it "went against my personal Faith and integrity."
The show was one of the few on television that depicted gay teens in a positive way, and, at the time, there was speculation that this was exactly what Gordon found objectionable.
As we reported in February 2007, "The N's editorial director recently (accidentally?) revealed at a youth roundtable that an unnamed actor on the show felt that the positive portrayal of coming out — and the decidedly less positive picture painted by a conservative Christian mom who tries de-gay her dykey daughter — was 'morally wrong,' and asked to leave the show."
The negative publicity surrounding his departure surely put more pressure on the producers of the show, who...

Last week, many AfterEllen.com readers expressed concern about the edited sex scene between Naomi (Lily Loveless) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott) in the latest episode of the third season of Skins, which recently began airing on BBC America.
In the original version that aired on British TV, the girls are shown kissing for several seconds by the lake, stopping to take off their sweatshirts (leaving them in t-shirts and underwear), and then making out again as they begin to have sex on the blanket. Next we see Naomi trying to sneak away the next morning, before Emily wakes up.
In the version shown in the U.S. last week, the girls are shown kissing and removing their sweatshirts, kissing again as they lie down, and then the scene cuts to Naomi's departure the next morning.

Being Arabic in America has been tough for a while now, but post-September 11 America brought out a lot of racism disguised as patriotism and this theme is nothing new. America goes to war with a country (or a region), and (some) of its citizens and leaders seem to forget there are Americans from that country, too.
Someone who knows this all too well is director Cherien Dabis.
The openly gay Dabis, who was raised in Ohio by a Jordanian mother and Palestinian father, experienced the sudden shift in how she and her family were treated first hand, during the Gulf War. Now, Dabis, who also penned a few L Word episodes, has released a film tackling the issue head-on, and it has already received a boatload of critical acclaim.

After three seasons of portraying Ashley Davies, South of Nowhere's resident wild child and lesbian trust fund baby, 22-year-old actor Mandy Musgrave is bidding farewell to the complicated half of Spashley with a new film (16 to Life), an internet series (Dan's Detour of Life) and with any luck, some more Girltrash!
Like her Son love interest and real-life friend, Gabrielle Christian, Musgrave is now re-entering the world of auditions and television guest spots. Unlike Christian — who called Musgrave's character, Ashley, "needy" in her recent interview — Mandy has different ideas about her character and what might have happened, had the series continued.
Musgrave talked to AfterEllen recently to defend her alter ego, dish about an as-yet-to-be-posted Girltrash sex scene with Christian, and make some wildly unsubstantiated claims about how girls kiss.
