Exclusive: Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix franchise), Isabelle Fuhrman (The Novice) and Liana Liberato (To the Bone) have signed on to star in Justine Bateman’s upcoming feature Face, based on her 2021 bestseller, Face: One Square Foot of Skin.
The film penned by Bateman consists of 14 vignettes, both comedic and dramatic, which look at women’s faces getting older, and why that makes people angry. While much of society appears to assume that women’s faces are somehow broken and need to be fixed, Face reveals some of the many ways in which women, and those around them, allow this idea to take root at all.
Parker will play Tanya, an actress balancing her need to use her face for her job and the pressure to not move it at all, with Moss as Mrs. Foster, a kindergarten teacher whose young students remind her of the magical functionality of the face.

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.

This Black Lightning article contains spoilers through Season 4, Episode 9.
The fourth season of Black Lightning will be its last and, barring any CW superhero crossover cameos or the greenlighting of the Painkiller spinoff, this may be the last time we will see these particular iterations of these comic book characters. The benefit of knowing the end is coming—a relative rarity in broadcast network TV, which are traditionally designed to run forever—is that it can allow writers to go places they might not otherwise go. With four episodes left ever, Black Lightning certainly isn’t holding any of its punches.
The latest episode of Black Lightning, “The Book of Ruin: Chapter Four: Lyding,” lives up to its title. The Pierces are going through it. Tobias has been plotting on the Pierces ever since he discovered their vigilante identities, and it seems his machinations have culminated into a single attack so devastating,...

The CW's buzziest series returned from hiatus on Monday night, but it looks like many of its fans were unaware.
All American Season 3 Episode 9 drew 706,000 total viewers and a 0.2 rating.
While these numbers are down quite a bit, the series is still tracking well ahead of last season.
On top of that, a spinoff is on the way, and a fourth season has already been ordered.
Not bad for a show that was written off due to poor ratings in its first season.
After All American, the midseason premiere of Black Lightning, which was actually the pilot of Painkiller drew 396,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating.
These numbers are on par with the season average.
American Idol, which featured the surprise return of Paula Abdul, perked up week-to-week.
It had 5.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating -- decent for ABC.
The Voice on NBC ticked down week-to-week but still topped Monday in total viewers.

In the latest TV show ratings, The CW’s All American returned from a five-week break to 706,000 total viewers (its second smallest audience of the season) and a 0.2 demo rating, down a tenth from its last fresh episode to match its series low.
Leading out of that, Black Lightning‘s planted Painkiller spinoff pilot dropped a few eyeballs (with 396K) while steady in the demo (with a 0.1.).

This Black Lightning article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 7.
This is the final season of Black Lightning, which means the end of Jefferson Pierce’s story. But Jefferson has never been the sole focus of the show… Black Lightning has introduced us to many complex characters whose personal journeys have kept us tuned in week after week. Over the three previous seasons, we’ve watched both Anissa and Jennifer Pierce begin to master their meta abilities and step into their power as protectors of Freeland, alongside their dad. Black Lightning, Thunder, and Lightning have come a long way, but they haven’t been alone on their journeys into heroism. From Lynn and Gambi, to Khalil and Grace, the Pierce family has always been surrounded by loved ones whose proximity to the heroes meant joining the fight themselves. “Painkiller,” a backdoor pilot for a proposed spinoff centering Khalil (Jordan Calloway) demonstrates...

Jordan Calloway describes himself as both a comic book nerd and an action-flick aficionado. So, to say that he was born to play Black Lightning‘s Painkiller is an understatement.
Calloway will reprise his dual roles tonight at 9/8c on The CW, in a highly anticipated backdoor pilot for a potential Painkiller spinoff. As he did in the original series, he’ll play both Khalil and Painkiller — and try to do the right thing as both personalities fight for dominance within. Creator and executive producer Salim Akil penned the episode, which also includes an appearance from Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and...

If you suddenly find yourself very excited about Outriders, you’re not alone. While the game’s demo proved to be much more engaging than many people suspected it would be, it’s really the fact that 2021 has gotten off to such a slow start that has made the prospect of diving into this title that much more appealing than it may otherwise be.
In case you don’t know, Outriders is a new looter shooter from developer People Can Fly: the same studio responsible for brilliant shooters like Bulletstorm and the Painkiller games. Much like those titles, Outriders features a chaotic style of shooter gameplay that emphasizes quick movements, outlandish weapons, and waves of enemies.
Unlike the studio’s most notable previous efforts, Outriders utilizes a “looter” gameplay style similar to what we’ve seen in games like Destiny and Anthem. That means that the title emphasizes classes,...

The new deal follows the success of last year’s “Spenser Confidential,” which Berg produced and directed at Netflix. The action film, starring Mark Wahlberg and Winston Duke, was a massive hit, with Netflix reporting 85 million members watching the film in its first four weeks.
“For me, in this moment, Netflix is the perfect creative fit,” Berg said in a statement. “I could not be more excited to get to work!”
The filmmaker and his scripted entertainment banner Film 44 have produced films such as “Lone Survivor,” “Deepwater Horizon,” “Mile 22,” “The Rundown,” “Hancock” and “Friday Night Lights” (both the 2004 feature film and the Emmy-winning television adaptation). Hodge will step into the role of Philky, a “ruggedly handsome with long raven hair, ink art on his body,...

Black Lightning is back for its fourth and final season. The CW announced in November 2020 that they would not be renewing the Black-led superhero drama for another season. We still have the 13-episode final season to look forward to, however, and the potential of a Black Lightning spin-off. In a previous statement, showrunner Salim Akil said of the latter: “While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller.”
For now, though, Black Lighting is back. Here’s what we thought of the Season 4 premiere. And here’s what to expect from next episode, “The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter Two”…
“The war between the 100 and the Kobra Cartel rages on; Lynn continues to be concerned about Jefferson; Jennifer’s curiosity is piqued by a new boy at school.

Pilot season at The CW is happening after all.
The youth-skewing broadcaster has handed pilot orders to three projects: Ava DuVernay’s superhero drama Naomi, the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls and a millennial nun dramedy exec produced by Jennie Snyder Urman.
The network has also ordered a reboot of classic sci-fi drama The 4400 straight-to-series.
There had been some question as to whether the network would go completely straight-to-series for next broadcast season, given the uncertainty around the pandemic, but CW chairman Mark Pedowitz has decided to stick with the pilot process.
“I believe in pilots, I believe you see things in pilots,” he told Deadline last month.
The three pilot orders do not, however, spell the end of the road for the network’s other development projects, and sources tell Deadline that there may be room for more. It has also developed the Greg Berlanti-produced Wonder Girl...

The CW has seen enough from its “Walker, Texas Ranger” reboot starring Jared Padalecki, renewing the freshman drama for next season after only two episodes.
“Walker,” a new version of the Chuck Norris-led drama that aired for eight seasons in the 1990s, was the network’s most-watched series premiere in five years. “Walker” was among 12 series to get picked up for next season by the network. Additionally, both “Walker” and the upcoming “Superman & Lois” were given more episodes this season.
The other renewals are: “All American,” “Batwoman,” “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “In the Dark,” “Charmed,” “Legacies,” “Nancy Drew,” “Riverdale,” “Dynasty” and “Roswell.”
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing production issues it caused, The CW did not formally begin in its 2020-2021 TV season until last month. Along with “Superman & Lois,” the network has upcoming premieres of “Republic of Sarah” and “Kung Fu” set for later this year.

The CW is moving forward with its expansion of All American.
The network on Monday picked up a backdoor pilot of its hit drama series, which recently returned with record ratings.
All American: Homecoming is the name of the potential series and will focus on Geffri Maya's recurring character, Simone Hicks, as well as a new athlete.
Simone is a tennis hopeful, while the new person is an elite baseball player from Chicago.
Together, they will deal with the high stakes of college sports while also navigating the highs, lows, and sexiness of unsupervised early adulthood at college.
All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll will executive-produce and write the potential spinoff, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Robbie Rogers, who work on the original series, will be back for the new chapter.
This marks the third backdoor pilot The CW has ordered this season. The network previously ordered a backdoor pilot of Painkiller,...
