Watched this short for the 3rd time last night, probably the 3rd time in the last year and was seeing what other people said about it on here.
This short is amazing, it is one of the most genuinely frightening pieces of film I have ever seen, and I have seen tons. not much in the way of horror scares me anymore, America horror has gone to crap but the man from down south has all the right technique. I cant wait for another short or better yet a feature length film. The camera work and the way the characters move and act when possessed by a daemon (which is the main premise for the film) is great! Its the best I have seen in this sort of movie (demon possession, evil getting into people and controlling them).. It is totally believable that this could happen, which is a rare accuracy in any horror movie currently... these characters are attacked by evil beyond words and have no control and it is terrifying if you imagine it hopping to yourself..

Dennison Ramalho is a name to watch. Amor Só de Mãe is a perfectly executed, stylish and truly disturbing short film set in the Brazilian jungle. Filho is a weak-willed old man in love/lust with Formosa; there is little to indicate she feels the same way. Their couplings are brief and not particularly romantic. She threatens to move away without him unless he gives up his elderly mother, a religious fanatic, for her. He can't do it, and breaks down after discovering her whoring herself. Not only that but Formosa turns out to be a devil worshiper. Possessed, she compels Filho to show his devotion to her by returning with his mother's heart. What follows is a sad, sickening spectacle that shows both religion's tendency to be judgmental and the selfish, evil nature of devil worship. This is intense, graphic viewing and bodes well for director Ramalho's future in horror.
I saw this short at a film festival years ago and have never forgotten it. I enjoyed it so much that i sought it out on DVD and finally found it, thank you Synapse! This is a short film that makes a real impact on the viewer. It's terrifying and beautiful all the at the same time.. Not in the way an Argento film is beautiful with it's cascade of colors and visuals..this is simply a short film where not one frame has been wasted, and every frame is meant to leave nightmares behind. For anyone who is into horror or extreme cinema, but doesn't delve into the world of short films very often..seek this out and give this a try. It will definitely be the best 20 minutes of horror cinema that many have seen.

This might be the most disturbing, gut wrenching 20 min film that I have ever seen. I loved it. I saw Amor So de Mae as a precursor to The Last Horror Movie during the 2004 Philadelphia Film Festival, and was blown away by the chilling tale of sexual obsession and voodoo. I would highly recommend this short film purely for the atmosphere and sicking tension built by Ramalho. Also, as the title of this review suggests, the film contained a hefty amount of blood; however the use of this gore did not seem to be for the sake of a blood lusting audience. A warning to parents: not for children. A rare treat this film is. 10 of 10.
