Iranian actor Leila Hatami, best known outside her country for her role in Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar-winning “A Separation,” will soon be back on international movie screens in Iranian-British director Mehdi Norowzian’s metaphysical drama “A Time in Eternity” which recently wrapped in Iran.
“There isn’t one scene without me,” Hatami told Variety, speaking on the sidelines of the just concluded Venice Film Festival where she was a member of the main jury.
The London-based Norowzian, who was Oscar-nominated for his 1999 short “Killing Joe” and subsequently directed Joseph Fiennes, Elizabeth Shue, Dennis Hopper and Sam Shepherd in the 2002 drama “Leo,” has since become a prominent commercials director. Norowzian recently returned to Iran to shoot this film, which is his first feature after two decades.

Exclusive: Iranian-British director and artist Mehdi Norowzian has just wrapped the Iran shoot of his new drama A Time In Eternity starring Venice 2022 jury member Leila Hatami, best known for her roles in A Separation, The Pig and Imagine.
The production marks the first feature in two decades for Norowzian, who was Oscar-nominated for his 1999 short film Killing Joe and shortly after directed Joseph Fiennes, Elizabeth Shue, Dennis Hopper and Sam Shepherd in the drama Leo.
In the interim, he built a career as a top commercials director, working closely with Ridley Scott’s Rsa Films under the banner of Joy@Rsa.
Hatami stars as a woman who is on a relentless and potentially futile quest to track down her missing husband. In the backdrop, the situation puts untold pressure on her relationship with her 12-year-old daughter, while she is also dealing with the unwanted attention of her amorous brother-in-law.

Emma Thompson has defended the role of intimacy coordinators on set in a new interview.
During an appearance on the Australian “Fitzy & Wippa” radio show to promote her new film, “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” one of the presenters asked the Oscar-winning actor what she made of Sean Bean’s recent comments in which he decried the use of intimacy coordinators in productions.
“Emma, I wanted to bring this up because I read it during the week, quite timely, but for the more intimate scenes that you guys had to do in the film, it was Sean Bean, who was Ned Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ and he said he didn’t really appreciate the work of the intimacy coordinator because he said that it spoilt the spontaneity,'” said the radio host. “So is that how you found it? After a century of roaring at audiences on the big screen, the MGM lion is no more. That is, the live-action version of Leo the lion has now been replaced with a CG-animated Leo taking his place. Leo roars in a manner that looks very similar to the live-action version, but the noticeable change might still bug filmgoers who've long grown accustomed to the classic Leo. How you feel about it is up for you to decide, and you can check out the unveiling of the CG mascot below.
While the MGM mascot is referred to as a single lion named Leo, there were in fact eight different lions used by the studio for the company's logo since 1916. The last version of the lion that had been used since 1957 before the CG-Leo's unveiling was actually named "Leo," though the ones before him had different names. For 64 years, Leo has served...

Doug Jones, the former U.S. senator from Alabama, has joined CNN as commentator.
He debuted on Friday on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper, telling the anchor, “Happy to be part of the team.”
Jones, appearing from Birmingham, Al, said that Joe Biden’s administration needed to amplify the message that a Covid-19 relief package was important not just for healthcare but the economy.
Jones, a Democrat, was defeated last year by Republican Tommy Tuberville, after serving in the Senate since 2018. That year, he won an upset victory over Roy Moore. Jones is also a former U.S. attorney for the northern district of Alabama. During his tenure, he prosecuted two Ku Klux Klan members for the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church.
In other news on the pundit front, Fox News hired civil rights attorney Leo Terrell as a contributor on Fox News Channel and Fox Business.

With recent weeks filled by political and election news, a completely different type of awards campaign decision has finally been made. In a Gold Derby exclusive, we have learned from HBO Max and WarnerMedia that the recent “The West Wing” special will not be competing at the 2021 Golden Globes or SAG Awards.
Officially titled “A West Wing Special for When We All Vote,” the October program was written by series creator Aaron Sorkin and directed by executive producer Thomas Schlamme. The reason for not entering the races with the HFPA and Screen Actors Guild is simple: neither of those groups has a specials category. Technically they could submit as a TV movie with SAG but it wasn’t eligible with the Globes as a TV movie. The program was a staged recreation of the third season episode “Hartsfield’s Landing” and not really a typical telefilm.

Leos are the kingly sign of the zodiac, always taking the lead and rallying the troops. Given their larger than life personalities, ambitions, and love of excitement, they are likely big fans of action movies. But not all of this genre's films will meet the tastes of vivacious Leo.

It’s impossible to predict the future.
If studio executives, filmmakers, musicians and showrunners knew what trends were about to take hold, they’d have gone into streaming two decades ago, bought Marvel before Disney did and invested in Spotify when it was a struggling Swedish startup. Alas.
But that’s not stopping the bright minds in our newsroom from going out on a limb and forecasting what’s in store for the entertainment business in 2020. There was no shortage of drama this year. Disney bought Fox and launched a streaming service, Viacom and CBS merged, “Avengers: Endgame” shattered “Avatar’s” box office record, Lil Nas X became the first Lgbtq artist to come out while having a No. 1 record and Trump became embroiled in impeachment. Still, if Variety reporters’ predictions come to pass, the next 12 months will upend the media landscape and set the world spinning. Here are some...

It has been a while since we were given a "dance it out" scene and we were long overdue.
There is no time like the present given everything that had transpired with Diane.
We got a healthy dose of humor on Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 19 too, which was a pleasant surprise, given the fact that we were coming off of the difficulty on Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 18.
The hour mostly revolved around Maggie's first day back at the job, but fortunately, it wasn't the only thing we were given this hour.
You know what I love about Grey's Anatomy? I love when it can acknowledge just how ridiculous it is and when it doesn't take itself too seriously. It can laugh at itself. It gives us, as viewers, license to laugh at just how absurd it can be, too.
It has been 13 seasons of some of everything imaginable thrown at us.

It was the summer of 1995. Bill Clinton was president, Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York, and Oj Simpson was on trial. Chicago – Zach Gilford is a familiar face to fans of the TV series “Friday Night Lights,” where he portrayed Matt Saracen. The actor grew up around Chicago in Evanston, Ill., and has risen through the ranks of acting in his new home of Los Angeles. He currently is featured in the sequel film, “The Purge: Anarchy.”
“The Purge: Anarchy” takes up the premise of the first film, which presupposes a near future America in which laws are suspended for one night a year, allowing all aggressions, crimes and firearms to be practiced with abandon. Zach Gilford portrays Shane, who is part of a couple – his real-life wife Kiele Sanchez is Liz, his other half – that are accidentally thrust into the Purge night with no protection, and hooks up with a armed vigilante named Leo (Frank Grillo). The sequel ups the ante of the first film, with more social commentary and fire power.

As we head into the final week of August and out of the summer blockbuster season, 3 must-sees to add to your Fall film list are The Family, Don Jon and Out Of The Furnace. Relativity Media has released brand new images from their latest films.
First up is Luc Besson’s The Family starring Robert De Niro as a killer dad, Michelle Pfeiffer as one bad mother, Dianna Agron as the mobgirl next door and John D’Leo as the young gun.
In the dark action comedy, a Mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the Witness Protection Program after snitching on the mob. Despite Agent Stansfield’s (Tommy Lee Jones) best efforts to keep them in line, Fred Blake (Robert De Niro), his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and their children, Belle (Dianna Agron) and Warren (John D’Leo), can’t help resorting...

As all lovers of crime, suspense thriller, war, western, horror and science fiction films know, creating a truly great cinematic villain is no easy task. When it happens, it’s virtually impossible to forget that character.
We’ll now take a look at the greatest film villains of the 1980’s.
The criteria for this article is the same as my previous article Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1970’s: the villains must be from live-action films-no animated features-and must pose some type of direct or indirect lethal threat. The villains can be either individuals or small groups that act as one unit.
The villains must be human or human in appearance, so no shape-shifting alien from John Carpenter’s amazing 1982 The Thing, no Aliens from James Cameron’s classic 1986 sequel and no Predator from John McTiernan’s beloved 1987 film of the same name.
Also, individuals that are the central protagonists/antiheroes...

And here we go... the acting categories you've all been very impatiently waiting for in Tfe's first wave of Oscar predictions for the year.
Will Previously Honored Movie Stars With Weird Character-Actor Hairdos Rule This Year?
As faithful readers know I like to keep my crystal ball risky with the bouncing and hope it doesn't shatter. In the first wave of predictions "what if" scenarios and "wild cards" are espectially compelling in the Supporting races. I mean why not? So little is yet known about future important matters like Amount of Screen Time, Nature of the Ensemble Roles, Best in Show Scene Stealing and even Post-Production "we'll fix it in post" Switcheroos where a film is rethought to better spotlight its MVPs. This early on there's no point in making boring predictions in which Oscar favorites hog all the categories though sometimes they do -- witness last year's All Previous Winner boredom in this category.

“I’m trying to make movies in my life … that last longer than opening weekend. That’s it, that’s my whole goal. I don’t have to make money; I do films for scale and then, you know, I go do coffee commercials overseas, and I make a lot of money so I get to live in a nice house. … And I don’t give a sh-t. And people will go, ‘Oh that’s a sellout.’ And you know what? F–k you.” — George Clooney, 2012

[Spoiler Alert If You Haven't Seen The Latest Episode Of American Horror Story: Asylum]
Last night’s episode, titled “The Origins of Monstrosity,” delivered some major surprises for Ahs fans, notably the return—at least in audio—of original castmember Dylan McDermott. Now, the actor didn’t physically show his face but it was definitely his voice heard teasing homicide detectives in the modern day Briarcliff storyline and it appears that McDermott is the Bloody Face of the present; the final moments of the episode revealed that, while Adam Levine’s Leo is definitely dead, McDermott’s Bloody Face has kidnapped Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s Teresa. American Horror Story: Asylum – 2×06 “Origins Of Monstrosity”
Stars: Jessica Lange, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Fiennes, James Cromwell, Evan Peters, Adam Levine, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Zachary Quinto, Clea DuVall, Sarah Paulson | Written by Ryan Murphy | Directed by David Semel
Earlier this season, I suggested that with the element of an insane asylum as a background, they could mine different types of standalone stories interspersed among the ongoing story arcs. It’s a fertile idea for storytelling, and while this week it wasn’t played up as big, as the exorcism for instance, it still gave it the creepy angle that this season has had in spades over last season.
Nature versus nurture is the theme of this week’s episode, or as it’s seen right there in the title, the origins of the monster. The nature aspect has to come from the budding serial killer girl “left by her mother.” She’s...

Exclusive: Electric City partners Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell have optioned rights to the Alison Espach novel The Adults. They’ve set Massy Tadjedin to write the script and direct. Patricof and Howell most recently completed the Derek Cianfrance-directed The Place Beyond The Pines, which stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes and will be released by Focus Features. In her debut novel, Espach chronicles a modern young woman’s struggle to grow up in a world where an adult and a child can so dangerously be mistaken for one and the same. At the center of the suburban universe in which the novel is set is teenager Emily Vidal, who learns quickly of the complications that come with adulthood when she falls in love with an older man. Espach teaches creative writing in New York City. Howell found the book reminiscent of generation coming-of-age stories like The Graduate.

While FX's American Horror Story: Asylum might not be everyone's cup of tea, even the skeptics among you would admit there was something extra creepy about tonight's episode. Not only did it air on Halloween night, which is just candy in the basket for the show's marketing, but the episode featured a powerful storm slamming into New England and throwing the patients of Briarcliff Asylum into hysterics. With East Coast residents still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, this prescient plotting did not go unnoticed; but was the rest of the episode as memorable? American Horror Story: Asylum stars Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe, along with newcomers Adam Levine, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, James Cromwell, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, Lizzie Brochere and Clea Duvall. American Horror Story: Asylum – 2×03 “Nor’Easter”
Stars: Jessica Lange, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Fiennes, James Cromwell, Evan Peters, Adam Levine, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Zachary Quinto, Clea DuVall, Sarah Paulson | Written by Jennifer Salt | Directed by Michael Uppendahl
When I first heard mention of what a nor’easter was, it was in a story by Stephen King. And let me tell you something, it’s rather fitting that a nor’easter would just so happen to hit and terrorize the inmates and the staff at Briarcliff. For those not in the know, a nor’easter is a particularly bad storm. It swirls and attacks bringing so much fury with it and I guess it’s fitting that it should attack at such a turbulent time in the lives of those behind the walls.
They continue to treat Sister Jude as this mirage of a woman. It’s made that she’s clearly she...

Last week, we covered the season two premiere of FX's American Horror Story: Asylum from creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, which featured racism, homophobia and good old-fashioned alien abductions. American Horror Story: Asylum Episode 201
“Welcome to Briarcliff”
Written By: Tim Minear
Directed By: Bradley Buecker
Original Airdate: 17 October 2012
In This Episode...
Much like season one, Ahs: Asylum starts at 80mph and doesn’t let up. Set in 1964, Briarcliff Asylum started as a tuberculosis hospital. In 1962 the Catholic church bought the place and turned it into a sanitarium. Sister Jude runs the day-to-day of the asylum. She is a stern nun whose faith is unwavering and believes all her wards must adhere to a strict moral code. Above her is Monsignor Howard, a more progressive priest that is the object of Sister Jude’s unwanted fantasies. Jude’s second-in-command is Sister Eunice, a submissive nun who is easily frightened, given to tears, and believes that she should be severely punished for even the slightest transgression.
Also on staff at Briarcliff is Dr. Arden, who is in charge of the medical wing.

After an excruciatingly long break (nearly 10 months), "American Horror Story" has officially returned with a brand spankin' new season, aptly titled "Asylum." The change in location finds us at the Briarcliff Mental Institution for the criminally insane, run by Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) and Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell), the latter of who appears to be the big bad this season besides Bloody Face. And trust me, "Bloody Face" is a kind name to describe that mug.
The episode opened in present day, following lovers Leo and Teresa (Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan, respectively) as they wonder into the now rundown and presumably abandoned Briarcliff. Teresa is an avid paranormal/hauntings enthusiast and Leo just goes along with her so that they can do it in every single haunted place they visit. I have a strong feeling that playing Leo was not that far of a stretch for Adam Levine,...
