SONIC AND KNUCKLES + SONIC 3

*THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE COMPLETE GAME PLAYABLE VIA LOCK-ON TECHNOLOGY*

Before playing "SONIC & KNUCKLES + SONIC 3" (1994) I always feel nervous. The kind of throat-swelling, mouth-drying, stomach-turning nerves that one gets in anticipation of a first date. I have completed this game consistently for so long and yet I always feel fear and excitement.

For the first two zones my mind's on seven chaos emeralds, earned in the blue sphere stages. Then my mind's on shields and rings. After Launch Base Zone Act 2 we're in Mushroom Hill and my mind is then on seven super emeralds. Once I've got them it's back to shields and rings.

Then it's all sneakers blazing to the Doomsday Zone in a race against time through space.

What this game has that the first two outings don't have (Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles also lack this as individual games) is a rip-roaringly brutal sense of relentless pursuit. The Doomsday Zone is the skull-splitting, edge of your seat climax to a sweaty, grimy, blistering chase.

Spin dashing through these colourful, dangerous, enormous, beautiful levels, to some of the best tracks in the Sonic canon, is intoxicating. The journey you take Sonic, Tails and Knuckles on is unforgettable. Playing it after "SONIC THE HEDGEHOG" (1991) and "SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2" (1992) is one awesome ride through a wonderful world

    Sonic 3... part 2

Okay, this game is NOT Sonic 4, or even chapter 4 of the series. It is actually a continuation of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The reason the game was split into two parts was because the Genisis cartridge did not have enough space to fit the entire game. The lock-on ability, when used with Sonic 3, lets the player finally play Sonic the Hedgehog 3 the way it was really meant to be. Gamers can finally experience the complete story. Meanwhile, Sonic 2 can also be hooked up, and allow gamers to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2! That's fun, but it is slightly tougher since Knuckles can't jump as high as Sonic, but luckily his abilities, such as climbing, balance it out. In general, Sonic and Knuckles, especially when locked on with Sonic 3, is an excellent game, and a must-buy for fans of the 'hog!

One of the best Sega Genesis games I have ever played

SONIC & KNUCKLES, in my opinion, is one of the best Sega Genesis games I have ever played. Even though it's been awhile since I've had a Sega Genesis system and game and played it as well, I enjoy it very much. In addition, even though I've never made it to the last level, I still enjoy the game. When and if this game is made available for download on the Nintendo Wii, I'm definitely going to download it. Also, I must say that the lock-on technology on the Sega Genesis version was really cool. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that the people at Sega Genesis know how to keep video game fanatics entertained. Now, in conclusion, if you're a video game fanatic, this is definitely one you'll want to play and own.
