Adult Swim Almost Made A TV Show Based On DC's Most Underrated Characters
Image
Few comic book readers might know about Jack Kirby's "Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth." The "Kamandi" property was created by Kirby (the comic book legend behind "Eternals") in 1972 and fell in line with the then-rising trend of post-apocalyptic stories like "Planet of the Apes," "I Am Legend," and the 1978 film version of "The Time Machine." The apocalypse was looming large, and pop culture tapped eagerly into those impulses to imagine distant sci-fi worlds where anything could happen.

Kirby's entrance into this genre fast-forwarded to a point in the far-flung future after Earth had been devastated by an unknown cataclysm. The planet has since been renamed Earth A.D. (After Disaster), and most of humanity had devolved into violent savagery. Some people were keeping civilization alive in underground bunkers, although they had to hide from multiple new species of anthropomorphic animal monsters. Indeed, animals had rapidly evolved thanks to...

The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar Was Blown Away By One Detail On The Show
Image
Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) undergoes a major transformation on "The Big Bang Theory," especially when it comes to his appearance. However, while Raj's ever-changing style is a testament to the show's ability to make every character look and feel unique, the character isn't the most aesthetically pleasing element of the sitcom in Nayyar's eyes.

During an interview with TV for the Rest of Us, the "Big Bang Theory" mainstay revealed that he was in awe of the show's set designs. What's more, he was especially enamored with its recreation of the comic book store, which Raj frequently hangs out in with Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), the latter of whom is set to receive a "Big Bang Theory" spin-off.

"That's a real comic book store built on set. Fascinating. We just got an Emmy nomination in art...

TCM Classic Film Festival To Open With George Lucas And ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ & More Popular Blockbusters Than Ever From ‘Jaws’ To ‘Back To The Future’ To ‘Superman’
Image
The 16th annual TCM Classic Film Festival gets underway Thursday night in Hollywood with a 45th anniversary screening at the Chinese Imax Theatre of the acclaimed second Star Wars feature, 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, with creator George Lucas on stage to talk about it. It certainly fits in with this year’s theme, “Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film,” though it is hard to wrap my head around the fact that this movie is now old enough to fit snugly in with so many of the classic titles TCM regularly features on their channel and at this festival, which brings them back in all their glory to the big screen.

The heavy programming of more contemporary box office hits this year does provide some irony to the title of one of the festival’s panels happening Sunday, “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To,” featuring among others Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman.

Time Travel is Dangerous (2024) Review
Image
As films like The Terminator, The Time Machine, Looper, Edge of Tomorrow, Back to the Future 2 and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 have proven, going backwards and forwards across history or into the far future can be perilous to both personal and universal health. But it has taken until now for a movie to say it out loud, and that movie is the brilliant British comedy Sci-Fi usurpingly titled Time Travel is Dangerous.

The set up is simple enough and starts when two friends Ruth and Megan find a time travel machine by the bins behind their vintage shop in Muswell Hill. The scientific marvel, which is actually a modified dodgem, takes them on jaunts across history where they pilfer anything they can from the bemused locals of the past to sell in their shop. Seemingly onto a great thing the pals are oblivious not only to how the time...

When Aamir Khan & Shekhar Kapur’s Time Machine Movie Was Scrapped Because Of This Reason
Image
Did Aamir Khan shoot a time machine movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The science fiction genre has been one of the most anticipated film genres worldwide. It takes the force of human imagination to its limit and the makers are then challenged to match their wildest dreams with the technologies available, and the results have been mind-blowing. In India, while the genre hasn’t been as prolific, there have been notable attempts to delve into sci-fi narratives.

Aamir Khan’s 2014 film Pk stands out as a successful venture into this realm, which blended sci-fi with humor. However, years before Pk, Aamir Khan had already worked on an ambitious sci-fi project titled Time Machine in collaboration with acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur. This movie was initiated in the early 1990s and promised to be a groundbreaking addition to Indian cinema but unfortunately remained unfinished.

Time Machine was meant to be an Indian version...

The Landmark Sci-Fi Movie That H. G. Wells Hated
Image
Fritz Lang's 1927 sci-fi epic "Metropolis" regularly appears on lists of the best movies of all time, and is certainly one of the most important works of science fiction ever produced. "Metropolis" takes place in an industrialized future where the world's wealthy live in meticulously constructed towers, and commute via fantastical blimps and flying machines. They engage in frivolous romantic misunderstandings, and enjoy lazing about in gardens eating rich foods. Meanwhile, under the city, impoverished laborers are literally working themselves to death to keep the machines running.

One of the city's most prominent rich brats is Freder (Gustav Fröhlich) who, by happenstance, witnesses a peaceful labor protest. He becomes instantly enamored of Maria (Brigitte Helm), the pacifist ruler of the movement, and becomes curious as to what the lives of laborers are actually like. He moves underground and sees the sweat, oil, and terror first had. The machines, he feels,...

Image
Imagine a $75 million movie starring Henry Cavill — sounds like a surefire hit, right? Well, not for Guy Pearce. During filming, he had a lightbulb moment that’d make anyone rethink their perspective on heroes. It was one of those moments where you realize, “maybe I shouldn’t have met my hero after all.”

Pearce’s experience on the set of that big-budget blockbuster had him questioning things he never expected. But the lesson? Sometimes, the larger-than-life stars aren’t exactly what you’d expect.

"Those Early 2000s Bangers": MCU Star's Adaptation Of H.G. Wells Classic Gets Glowing Review From VFX Artists 22 Years Later
Image
An MCU star's adaptation of an H.G. Wells classic gets a glowing review from VFX artists 22 years after its release. The English author, a pioneer in science fiction, has seen his imaginative works frequently adapted to the screen since the 1930s. Early adaptations include Island of Lost Souls (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), Things to Come (1936), and The Man Who Could Work Miracles (1937), which captured audiences with their groundbreaking special effects and blended the author's thought-provoking themes with cinematic spectacle.

Later adaptations continued to bring the sci-fi author's visionary stories to life, and often reflected contemporary concerns. The War of the Worlds (1953) and The Time Machine (1960) highlighted Cold War fears and a fascination with time travel, respectively. Subsequent remakes – such as The Island of Dr. Moreau, Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds (2005) starring Tom Cruise, and the visually updated The Time Machine (2002) – introduced new interpretations of the author's themes, and almost always with impressive visual effects.

Lower Decks Broke a 54-Year Star Trek Trend (& Became 1 of the Most Important Shows in the Process)
Image
The following reveals spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5, Episode 10, "The New Next Generation," now streaming on Paramount+.

From its first episode, Star Trek: Lower Decks truly went where no Star Trek series had gone before. The introduction of comedy was a bold step, despite the fact that Star Trek had periodically engaged in self-parody before. Centering an entire series around it felt like a big step, especially when it brought animation into the mix as well. Not only did Lower Decks hit the ground running, but it quickly evolved into something much more than a parody.

Its penchant for combining the jokes with real threats and genuine character development turned Lower Decks into one of the best entries of any kind the franchise has ever seen. With Lower Decks' finale now streaming, it's obvious that the show shouldn't have been canceled so soon. The fifth season has been...

Guy Pearce reflects on his attempt to do big studio movies with The Time Machine
Image
Guy Pearce has come a long way from his days on the Aussie soap opera, Neighbours, to his newest film, The Brutalist, for which he’s receiving major accolades. When reviewing The Brutalist, our own Chris Bumbray said, “Pearce, in particular, has never played a role like Van Buren, with him hiding his sadism behind a polished mid-Atlantic accent similar to the one used by John Huston when he played one of the screen’s great villains in Chinatown. Pearce plays him as a man of great charisma but little in the way of scruples. Yet, he’s not two-dimensional; he is also capable of great compassion, even if it comes with an asterisk.”

And while the scope of The Brutalist is grand in its own right, it’s still a small movie when compared to big studio blockbusters. GQ recently profiled Pearce and the actor reflected on his attempt...

Guy Pearce Reflects on Hollywood’s Creative Challenges
Guy Pearce at an event for The Rover (2014)
Guy Pearce, an actor, spoke candidly with GQ magazine about his intention to take a break from major Hollywood studio films. He mentioned a limited creative atmosphere as limiting an actor’s artistic expression.

Pearce’s disenchantment began with the 2002 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine.” DreamWorks and Warner Bros. produced this film, which was a critical flop and a watershed moment in Pearce’s professional career. He described the studio system as one in which actors frequently lose creative authority, leaving them powerless.

“I can’t make sense of this idea of studio films where you just get told what to do by people afraid to lose their jobs,” Pearce told the audience. He described specific instances during pre-production in which studio executives dictated his appearance without consulting him, making him feel as if his artistic instincts were neglected.

This incident exposed a larger issue in the industry.

Guy Pearce Explains Why Studio Films Are “A Killer For Me”
Image
Following the critical flop of his 2002 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine, Guy Pearce had a new perspective on his career.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee explained why working on the big-budget DreamWorks/Warner Bros. feature made him feel like his “intuition doesn’t mean anything,” putting him off from working with big studios in the future.

“I think the process of it felt way too big for me,” he explained to GQ. “I can’t make [sense of] this idea of studio films where you just get told what to do by people afraid to lose their jobs. I remember there were discussions at the beginning about how I was going to look. A couple of the executives say, ‘No, he’ll just cut his hair and he’ll just do this and he’ll do that.’ And I’m in the room going, Hello? I’m immediately feeling...

Guy Pearce Stayed Away from Studio Movies Because ‘You Just Get Told What to Do’ by Execs ‘Afraid to Lose Their Jobs’: ‘That’s a Killer for Me’
Image
One look at Guy Pearce’s filmography and it’s clear the actor has largely stayed away from big Hollywood studio fare over the years. One would have to go all the way back to 2013’s Marvel movie “Iron Man 3” to find Pearce’s last sizable role in a studio tentpole, although he did have smaller appearances in “Prometheus” and “Bloodshot.”

Pearce has stayed busy over the years with indie dramas and international fare, which he recently told GQ magazine was somewhat of a reaction to the bad experiences he had with a few studio films. After the success of “Memento,” Hollywood tried and failed to mold Pearce into a studio leading man with projects like 2002’s “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Time Machine.” The latter film, loosely based on H. G. Wells’ novel of the same name, was a notorious critical flop and a pain for Pearce to make.

Memento's Guy Pearce Reveals the Sad Reason He Never Worked With Christopher Nolan Again
Image
Christopher Nolan made his directorial debut in 1998 with Following, but it was his second film, 2000's Memento, that gained him international acclaim. The neo-noir psychological film starred Guy Pearce in the leading role, but the actor admitted he never reunited with the director for a sad reason.

During an interview with Vanity Fair to promote his latest film, the critically acclaimed historical drama The Brutalist, the actor also revealed why he never worked again with Nolan following the Academy Award-nominated film. In the meantime, the actor starred in several critically acclaimed films and won a Primetime Emmy for his role in the Kate Winslet-led limited series Mildred Pierce, and joined the MCU in 2013 with Iron Man 3. Although he worked with many famous directors and received praise for his acting, it was a criticism of his skills that made him never work with Nolan again.

Iron Maiden Pay Tribute to Paul Di’Anno During Minnesota Concert: Watch

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson took a moment to eulogize the band’s former singer, the late Paul Di’Anno, during the metal band’s concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday night (October 22nd).

Dickinson addressed the crowd prior the song “The Time Machine.”

“Our band member Paul Di’Anno passed away, as you are probably aware,” Dickinson said [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “And if you’re not aware of that fact, you are now. Paul was instrumental in the first two [Iron Maiden] albums, groundbreaking with Killers and the first album. An amazing voice, devoted to rock and roll right up till the last minute of his life.”

He continued: “So… for those of you who were born and still remember those early albums, when obviously I wasn’t in the band and he was, and those of you who were fans of the stuff...

‘Futurama’ Fans Say The Show Had The Rare 11/10 Pilot Episode
Image
No TV series has ever started off quite as hot as Futurama — just ask I.C. Wiener.

On March 28, 1999, Fox premiered the pilot episode of a series that they would kick around for a few seasons before dumping from the network, forcing the show to go on a quarter-century, multi-platform search for a permanent home that seems to have finally ended at Hulu. In “Space Pilot 3000,” Simpsons creator Matt Groening debuted an even more outlandish satirical universe than Springfield as Futurama perfectly introduced its inaugural fans to the world of the 31st century and the colorful cast of characters who called it home. When pizza delivery boy and chair-leaner Philip J. Fry fell (or was pushed) into a cryogenic freezing chamber set to preserve him for a thousand years, he took the audience with him into one of the most fantastical and fully realized worlds ever unveiled in a show’s first episode.

Most Fans Missed One of the Best Sci-Fi Movies of the 2000s
Image
Science fiction in the movies has long been associated with spectacle and visual effects, going back to Fritz Lang's Metropolis. The advent of CGI has made effects easier to produce than ever, and with the advent of the mega-franchise, sci-fi almost always comes with a healthy sampling of colossal warships, alien vistas, and all the epic grandeur of the cosmos. It comes in part as a way of catching up with science fiction literature, where such wonders can be conjured solely by the author's words, and it will likely always be a central part of the genre at the movies.

It doesn't necessarily need to be, however, and indeed, a number of the best science fiction films ever made do so with no flashy gimmicks or special effects at all. A prime example came and went in 2007 without much fanfare, and is deserving of rediscovery. Timecrimes is a Spanish...

Film Quiz Friday | Dynamic Duos
Image
The new Todd Phillips film is about a pair of Jokers and this week’s film quiz focuses on other movie duos.

They say it takes two to tango, but no one ever says it takes two to Tango And Cash. Why would they? Stupid thing to say. Anyway, October’s first big release Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker joined by Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn for an all-singing, all-dancing sequel – just don’t call it a musical! And as Warner Bros also announced the animated Robin movie Dynamic Duo earlier this week, we’re quizzing for two.

As always, there are three rounds and 30 questions in total. Once you’ve completed today’s film quiz, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. This is just for fun, but please let us know how...

All Abbott Elementary Cameos & Guest Stars In Every Season
Image
Quinta Brunson seemingly has a lot of pull in Hollywood, given that so many celebrities have made cameos or guest-starred in Abbott Elementary over the course of its three seasons. The ABC mockumentary sitcom, created by Brunson, follows the lives of the teachers at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Abbott Elementary has arguably helped revive the mockumentary trope and has been a massive success for ABC. Its achievements can be attributed to its hilarious and talented cast (including the various A-list celebrity cameos and renowned guest stars).

A cameo in Abbott Elementary is when a celebrity plays themselves, and a guest star is a major actor in a small role in the sitcom.

The main cast of Abbott Elementary also includes impressive and noteworthy stars. Tyler James Williams is famous for his role as Chris Rock in the CW sitcom Everybody Hates Chris; Lisa Ann Walter is...

I Honestly Believe the New Godzilla vs Sherlock Holmes Series Can Be Something Special
Image
Godzilla faces off against literary icons in a new miniseries, blending epic adventure with love and heartbreak. Tom Scioli's passion for Godzilla shines through in the upcoming comic, promising a wild ride of global destruction. Crossovers are nothing new for the King of Monsters, as Godzilla has taken on many famous characters outside of his universe.

After defeating the likes of Ghidorah, King Kong, and Destoroyah, soon Godzilla will stand against his most formidable foes yet: classic literary figures such as Sherlock Holmes and Jay Gatsby. The Father of Kaiju has had a hot streak of hard-hitting success this last decade, with the American MonsterVerse, Shin Godzilla, and Godzilla Minus One being some of the King of Monsters greatest financial achievements in his impressive 70 years of existence.

This upcoming October, writer and artist Tom Scioli and Idw Publishing are releasing a new IP mashup of monsters and metaphors called Godzillas Monsterpiece Theatre.

The Dragon Ball Super Timeline
Image
Dragon Ball Super occurs during a ten-year gap in Dragon Ball Z's timeline between Ages 774 and 784. The events of Dragon Ball Super begin in Age 778, confirmed by the God of Destruction Beerus Saga. Various inconsistencies and contradictions in Dragon Ball Super's timeline create confusion for fans.

Dragon Ball Super holds a fascinating position within the Dragon Ball franchise. Billed as a "midquel" to the legendary Dragon Ball Z, the manga launched in the pages of V-Jump in 2015. This manga would be released alongside an anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation. As the first all-original Dragon Ball anime series since Dragon Ball Gt, Dragon Ball Super quickly became a hit with fans. However, despite this popularity, fans are often confused about how Dragon Ball Super slips into the Dragon Ball timeline and what this means for the story.

The first episode of Dragon Ball Super, "A Peacetime Reward Who Gets the 100,000,000 Zeni?...

‘Fallout’s Walton Goggins: It’s “Extremely Anxiety Provoking” To Sit In The Makeup Chair To Become The Ghoul — Contenders TV
Image
Walton Goggins, in a gruesome starring role in Prime Video’s apocalyptic sci-fi series Fallout, said he knew he knew he was in for “an intense experience” having to transform every day on set into The Ghoul, a post-human character with melting flesh, a cowboy persona and some semblance of his humanity still left.

But at Saturday’s Deadline Contenders Television panel, the perennial character actor — beaming in from overseas, where he is shooting The White Lotus — said the task of transformation proved to be “extremely anxiety provoking” at first. He had to figure out how to express himself under a thin layer of sweat-inducing facial prosthesis designed to make him look almost skeletal and how to be a walking, wisecracking horror show with a retainer in his mouth to simulate the absence of teeth.

“When I put in the retainers, these things that kind of covered these pearly white teeth,...

Anthony Hopkins Set to Star in 'Eyes In The Trees' based on H.G. Wells' Novel
Image
Sir Anthony Hopkins has had one of Hollywood’s longest and most impressive careers. He’s played iconic characters and received dozens of awards. Now, the Welsh actor turns his focus toward a new project, Eyes in the Trees, based on The Island of Dr. Moreau, a novel by science fiction pioneer H.G. Wells.

Per Deadline, the actor, partly known for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs, has signed on to portray an important scientist in the film. Hopkins’ character is a brilliant geneticist whose human experimentation went sour and, as a result, had his government funding cut off and was forced into isolation from the world. Afterward, a pair of filmmakers and their crew set out on an expedition which yields unexpected and dangerous results that threaten all humankind.

The 10 Best Time Travel Movies, Ranked
Image
Time travel movies often explore the concept of changing the past or glimpsing into the future, but they typically conclude that meddling with time is not advisable. The rules of time travel in movies play a crucial role in determining the validity and success of the film, and scientific accuracy is just one factor in making the audience believe in the concept. Not every time travel movie is popular, but that doesn't diminish the value of portraying the triumphs and dangers of time travel, and sometimes incorporating comedy into the genre can be highly entertaining.

Time travel is a frequently explored topic in movies, and the films that stand the test of time use intricate plots to their advantage. Movies and TV shows have been exploring the ways that time travel could be possible since their inception. Humanity has long dreamed of what would happen if they could change the...

It’s Groundhog Day! These Are the Best Time Travel Movies, from ‘Donnie Darko’ to ‘Looper’ to ‘Interstellar’
Image
On February 2nd, 1993 — and on the infinite number of days that followed it — Bill Murray’s curmudgeonly weatherman Phil Connors woke up to the sounds of “I Got You Babe” and reported on the Groundhog Day festivities in Punxutawney, Pennsylvania. And while his displeasure about having to cover such a nonsensically rodent-centric holiday eventually faded, the enduring charm of “Groundhog Day” has not.

In the three decades since Harold Ramis’ classic comedy hit theaters, the time loop formula of characters being stuck repeating a single day has been imitated by everyone from Tom Cruise to Natasha Lyonne. While the heights of “Groundhog Day” are hard to top, time loop films have become a charming addition to nearly ever genre under the sun. Ramis’ idea ended up providing a shot of adrenaline that allowed time travel cinema to flourish for another quarter century.

Time travel has its roots in ancient myths and folk tales,...

10 Classic Sci-Fi Movies That Still Need Remakes
Image
Sci-fi films pave the way for new techniques and styles in cinema, influencing other genres and improving the medium as a whole. While many sci-fi films have been successfully remade for modern audiences, influential classics like Metropolis and The Sorcerers are still waiting for their turn. Movies like They Live and Demon Seed explore relevant themes of aliens and AI, making them ripe for remakes that could captivate a modern audience.

Sci-fi as a genre has led to some of the best films and stories of all time, but several films that helped define the genre happened decades ago and are yet to receive a remake for modern audiences. Sci-fi is often the first place where new techniques and experimental styles in film are employed. These films then influence other genres and help to improve the medium as a whole.

In recent years, Hollywood has spent a lot of time...

10 Great Sci-Fi Movies Based on H.G. Wells' Stories
Image
The Island of Lost Souls was heavily edited after its release due to its horrifying nature, but went on to receive praise for its cinematography and creativity. The Time Machine is one of H.G. Wells' most popular stories, and the film adaptation faithfully captured the essence of the original novella. The Invisible Man (1933) featured remarkable effects for its time and earned praise for its originality, acting, and visual techniques.

H. G. Wells has been referred to as the father of science fiction, and many of his novels and short stories have served as the inspiration for adaptations in film which popularized the genre. Born in 1866, Herbert George Wells spent his early years in Kent, England with his parents in humble circumstances. When he injured his leg at a young age and found himself bedridden for some time, he discovered his love of books and the way that they could...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From A Clockwork Orange
Image
Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess, Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange" is set in the not-too-distant future when roving British teenage gangs have mutated into bizarre, ultra-violent, morals-free hedonists who commit crimes to their hearts' content. The protagonist is Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) a 15-year-old punk who drinks drug-laced milk before taking to the street with his gang of droogs to savagely and gleefully beat and assault anyone who passes into their field of vision. Alex is eventually arrested and put into prison where the government subjects him to bizarre new rehabilitation techniques in an attempt to turn his mind away from violence.

Throughout, Alex is depicted as clearly beyond redemption. He has no compassion and will never have compassion. When he reads about Jesus Christ being crucified, he imagines himself to be the Roman soldier whipping him. The government's brainwashing techniques only instill in him a...

11 Sci-Fi Movies That Completely Changed How We See Reality
Image
Metropolis (1927): The German film continues to inspire popular media with its dystopian premise and impressive visuals. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956): This classic sci-fi movie coined the phrase "pod people" and influenced numerous adaptations and similar stories. Blade Runner (1982): Ridley Scott's film raises questions about the advancement of technology and its potential to mimic human life, reflecting society's current concerns.

There have been a handful of sci-fi films that have influenced how people perceive and interact with the world around them. Cinema and stories in general have always had a way of shaping public opinions and conveying ideas to their audiences. Nineteen Eighty-Four, the works of Shakespeare, and Frankenstein are just a few that continue to be studied, and provide inspiration many decades after they were first released.

Similarly, there are landmark movies that change the idea of what is possible in cinema, and many of...

The Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies of the 2000s
Image
The 2000s was a strange time for genre filmmaking and especially science fiction. While sci-fi cinema was in theory thriving, that was mainly thanks to the presence of franchises that were, in fact, their own mini-genres (like Star Wars and Star Trek). Then there were superhero films, always sort of a cousin to sci-fi, with the X-Men and Spider-Man series both exploding and the Marvel Cinematic Universe making its debut with Iron Man (2008) just as the decade came to a close.

But there were some top-shelf literary adaptations as well. Steven Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001) was a flawed yet powerful expansion of a Brian Aldiss story while his War of the Worlds (2005) and Minority Report (2002) were outstanding takes on classic tales from H.G. Wells and Philip K. Dick (there might have been no sci-fi filmmaker more consistent at the time than The Beard). Other remakes or adaptations,...

A 72-Year-Old Movie Has One Of The Best Explanations For Time Travel
Image
I'll Never Forget You provides a unique and realistic approach to time travel, surpassing many modern movies in its storytelling and execution. The movie's explanation of time travel, using the analogy of stars, is one of the best and most understandable concepts in the genre. The film's focus on the moral and ethical implications of time travel sets it apart, making it an underrated gem in the genre.

Every time travel movie has its own set of rules for the science fiction phenomenon, but one movie from over 70 years ago, I'll Never Forget You, has an explanation that trumps that of modern movies. Arriving nearly 35 years before time travel classic Back to the Future, the 1951 film I’ll Never Forget You follows scientist Peter Standish, whose decision to travel from the 1950s to the 18th century doesn’t quite work out as he had hoped. Rather than leaving behind the complexities...

10 Sci-Fi Books That Would Make Great TV Shows
Image
Many science fiction books have successfully been adapted into popular TV series, showcasing how the medium suits the genre more than film. TV adaptations often capture more detail, nuance, and depth than movies, making them ideal for bringing sci-fi novels to life. Several sci-fi books, such as Nineteen Eighty-Four, John Dies At The End, and The Girl With All the Gifts, have great potential for TV adaptations due to their compelling content and relevance.

Some of the best, most popular television series of the past few years have been based on science fiction books. From The Man in the High Castle based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, to The Handmaid's Tale based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, to The Expanse based on a series of novels by James S. A. Corey, it's clear that turning sci-fi books into TV shows can work really well, and is often...

Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden Kick Off Power Trip Festival: Video + Photos
Image
The historic Power Trip festival kicked off on Friday night (October 6th) in Indio, California. The three-day event features six of the biggest hard rock and heavy metal acts in the world, with two bands performing each night.

Tens of thousands of fans descended upon the Empire Polo Club, the same site where Coachella is held every year. They were greeted by a giant devil-horn-shaped cactus, letting them know that they were in for a weekend of legendary rock music.

Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden had the honor of playing the first night, with Maiden taking the stage first at 6:55 p.m., about 10 minutes later than the advertised 6:45 set time.

Instead of playing a “greatest hits” set, as could have been expected at an event such as Power Trip, Maiden stuck with their current “Future Past World Tour” setlist, which features the band playing songs predominantly from their latest album,...
