Die Hard Trilogy was one of the first games I ever got for my PC many years ago. And it's still fun to play thanks to the fast and furious gameplay, well of the first 2 games anyway. The third was awful.
Die Hard is a third-shooter set in the Nakatomi Plaza in LA's Century City. The set design is impressively similar to that of the movie and John McClane's mission involves scouring each and every floor for terrorist (actually just thieves) scum, hostages and bombs. The graphics are slightly dodgy and can get a bit confusing but it's a bloody thrill ride for sure. This game was developed upon more in the under-rated Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza from 2001.
Die Harder is a first person shooter much like Operation Wolf in which you go through Washington DC's Dulles Airport blasting at everything you see. The best thing about this game is that everything in it can be shot and destroyed. It was hectic carnage and there are some brilliant blood splatters.
Die Hard with a Vengeance (my fave film of the trilogy) is a really crappy driving game much like Crazy Taxi only with boring, near impossible mission, terrible graphics and no lasting appeal. I never went back to this game more than twice. The others however, can be played again and again.
And furthermore, the musical score on the first two games were brilliant! The third has pleasant enough tunes but it never came near the action-packed cues that came before it. Nothing like Michael Kamen's work on the movies, but cool anyway.

This is for the old Play-Station machine(yes, remember that one? It doubled as a CD player); I don't know if it's been released for other consoles or the PC, I'm going off this. In 1988, a lone cop was trapped inside a fancy, big building as high-tech thieves("whoever said we were terrorists?") take hostages and attempt to steal stuff(oh, and in this, there are dozens of them). A year later(...or was it two?), he's in an airport when the bullets start flying. And half a decade later(when they got a script ready for another unnecessary sequel... one that was pretty obviously intended for Lethal Weapon, and abandoned by that franchise), a foreign(villains are never American, you know) dude wants to play a game. Simon Says. I would argue it's probably because he was bullied with that something fierce when he was growing up... that's a subject I won't go into here. Anyway, he's planted bombs that the police officer has to get to in time and defuse, because if that's an exciting climax, why not build an entire movie around it(overstimulation? What's that?)? In these, you prevent explosions... by, uhm, touching the dynamite. I don't know, roll with it or we'll never get through this(I guess red and blue, cut the right one before you run out of the precious little time you are given, has gotten old?). Yes, this is three games. I'll go over them one by one, complete with ratings. Let me preface it by saying that it cost less than a 20th(!) of what a new PSX title did. And now I know why. All of these are entirely repetitive. I don't know if the following is exclusive to my copy... this refuses to save to the Memory Card. Meaning when I turn it off, I lose all progress. Yes. The graphics are fine for '96. Music is energetic(in general these are quite fast, and fun until it dawns on you that *the game-play never evolves*), though I question the choice of techno beats(why not rock'n roll?). The voices are reasonable... still, he may sound vaguely like Bruce, but Willis should sue for defamation of a character he made famous, for lines like "bye bye, bad guy"(I cringe at the sheer thought). He does look like he should, and so does everyone(and everything) else. These are overly tough(then again, topping the High Score, right away, is no trouble at all), with only a single difficulty setting and they merely aren't that gratifying to play. Anyway, the first one... level design is OK. AI is pretty terrible, even for its age. They can't hear you(if you miss them when you fire, they won't turn around), barely see you(I think "peripheral vision" is nowhere to be found in all the lines of code), and if they don't know where you are, they may run around themselves(have you ever seen a dog walk in a circle before laying down? Yes, like that). The length is around 8 hours. It's a third-person shooter, and you run around on the floor you're on, free hostages(they will leisurely jog towards the elevator... I mean, it's not like their life depends on this, right? And it's not like's armed C4 around! And just let them go, they will go untouched, for some reason... they can get taken out in crossfire, meaning, don't be spotted near them and calm your trigger-finger) and give anyone else you meet a bad case of lead-poisoning(and realize that you can't aim down or up(you have to point your sidearm in the general direction), so you can't hit someone lower than you(unless there's a stairwell), or, *behind a frickin' counter*; you start out with a Beretta(with infinite ammo), can pick up(and will use whatever you last found) the shotgun from Doom(well, they used the same sound!), an MP5, an M60 and regular grenades, a smoke variant and flashbangs). When they're gone, get to the lift that has something rigged to blow in 30 seconds(oh, and miss a single one, even in the bonus area, and you will have to start from where you last stored your game). This deserves a 6/10. The second of these is a rail-shooter(no, I don't know what the reasoning behind that selection). If you can see it, you can gun it down. I imagine it's more entertaining with a Lightgun... mine's broken, by, well, "lack of use for a while"(money well spent, huh?). You can use a controller(to adjust the sights manually... yeah, it gets old), or, apparently, a mouse. This one is short. From me, it gets a 6/10. The third one is a car game. Race around town. I've heard others compare it to Crazy Taxi, and that's probably right. Maybe think Grand Theft Auto, sans the opportunity to leave your vehicle(of which there are 15 that you can use, if you get that far) and proceed on foot. You drive over(with *horrible* steering, the one thing you are not allowed to screw up in a driving game), I don't know, red round things(don't worry if you annihilate pedestrians, no one seems to care) and it'll prevent a nuke from going off(... don't ask, *please*; also, it's nearly impossible to do in time). Yes, who needs the clever(if you're in elementary school) puzzles that were the only remotely interesting aspect of the third entry in this series that, sadly, lives up to its name by the very fact that it refuses to perish? This one ranks only 3/10. All in all, this isn't that good. Not the parts, not the trilogy. There is blood(especially in the second one, I mean, talk about *carnage*), and yet no swearing(Yippie-Ki-Yay... and that's all they allowed me to say). I recommend this to people who don't mind all of this being exactly the same. There are far superior ones out there for all three genres represented here, and at least one FPS that's a great Die Hard title. It's Nakatomi Plaza, if you didn't already know. 5/10
Die hard trilogy is a PS1 game I couldn't stop playing back in the day. This is what happens when you make a game based on a movie decades after the movie released.
Die hard Trilogy is a multi-genre game spanning the entire Die hard trilogy starring Bruce Willis as John McClane.
A third person shooter, a light gun game, and a driving game.
Die Hard 1 is the most addicting and fun. Play as John McClane who will save Nakatomi Plaza from terrorist scum and rescue captives. Kill endless troves of enemies and move on to the next floor to get to the rooftops. Discover a variety of weapons. Hide behind cover an and roll dodge to pop one in a stupid enemies head.
Die Hard 2 is light gun game like Time Crisis if one is familiar. Aim your gun at baddies at Dulles Airport and save hostages from terrorists. Shoot health and ammo. This game is too hard but enjoyable. The framerates are bad but the atmosphere is sad enough to keep you going.
Die Hard 3 is a driving game in the styles of Crazy Taxi but this time you steal a taxi or a cop car. Crash into a bomb and prevent it from detonating the Bronx. This one isn't so fun because it has monotonous levels and is full of traffic but it feels like GTA so it's cool. In fact this whole game has that GTA vibe.
The sound effects in this game, are so funny and memorable. "Die Yanky! " "Take this Yankey!" "Ooh!" ARGH!" AHHHH!!!" "OWW!" "GET HIM!" "TAKE THIS!" "HOHOHO! I GOT ME A MACHINE GUN!" "Happy trails!" "Sorry Pal" "NYPD!" "Ow!" "And isn't." "Best Christmas bonus I ever got.
The Graphics are pretty bad nowadays. If it looked bad on PS1 it will probably look worse on Saturn. The lack of shading, the lack of lighting effects, the heavily pixelated special effects and the characters who are just basically a collection of well animated sprites with different angles is going to be hard for modern gamers to stomach. Especially in the more intensive levels such as. But the destructible physics save it all.
Overall, Die hard trilogy is arcade goodness that brings back bloody glorious memories.

I remember how great this game was when it was released. Back in those days it was really neat getting three games for the price of one. First shooting game on the disc had decent third-person shooting mechanics. I especially loved the destructable environments. Second lighgun game was hard, you needed to be fast or have a lightgun to be good at it. And I remember the third driving game which was also hard, but very fun. It had you riding in NYC streets, Central Park to defuse bombs in a timely manner just like in the movie itself!
This game is definitely very dated right now and only can be viewed for its nastalgic and artistic historical value.

Storyline: They're intelligent. Highly-trained. And they kill without remorse. They're a team of vicious international terrorists and unless their demands are met, hundreds of innocent lives will be lost. Hostages have been taken. Explosives set. Now, from the glass-and-steal labryinth of the Nakatomi Plaze high-rise to the crowded terminals of Washington/Dulles airport to the mean streets of New York City, timers tick down the seconds until the bombs detonate, creating an inferno of twisted wreckage and mangled bodies. Die Hard You are in the parking garage of the Nakatomi Plaza, a Loas Angeles skyscraper wired to explode. Above you, there are 19 more floors, crawling with terrorists. They're out to steal millions in negotiable bonds held in Nakatomi's corporation's safe, and they won't hesitate to kill hundreds of hostages in the process.
Now, you've got to fight your way up, floor-by-floor, to the rooftop searching hallways, office suites, the grand ballroom and even floors under construction-killing all the terrorists and rescuing as many hostages as possible.
Oh, one more thing. Once you kill the last terrorist on each floor, a bomb is activated. It will appear on your map as a flashing red dot. Get to it in time and you'll automatically move to the next floor. Don't, and Nakatomi Plaza will be obilerated. So get ready, John McClane is about to begin what could be his wildest-or last-Christmas of his life.
If you're New York cop(LAPD in Die Hard 2) John McClane, there's got to be one thing you're asking yourself as you arrive at washington/Dulles Airport to pick up your wife: Why does this always happen to me? The place crawling with terrorists. They've come to rescue a South American Dictator-and drug kingpin who's being flown to the U.S. to stand trial. And you walked in the middle of the plot.
You see all the action through McClane's eyes, as he races through the terminal annihilating terrorists-but hopefully not civilians and hostages. From the concourse to the New Annex. from the runway to the surrounding countryside. On Foot. by snowmobile. even by helicopter, the chase continues with rapid-fire speed, until you bring down the terrorist escape plan.
Die Hard With A Vengeance New York City: The Objective New York, New York. If you can make it here, you'll make it anywhere and if you can't, half of manhattan will disapear in a blinding flash.
This time, its a gang of terrorists led by the twisted genius, Simon. They've stashed bombs throughout the city to cover multi-billion dollar heist. And Simon Says, John McClane must defuse them but the clock is ticking.
It's a test of your nerves and your driving skills, as you and your reluctant partner, Zeus, seek out and commandeer more then fifteen different vehicles, stomp the pedal down and go. Blaze through the traffic-choked streets of Chinatown in a high-powered sports car.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Gameplay: A classic from the beginning, Die Hard Trilogy had 3 games in one. But that wasn't why it was a hit, it was a hit because all 3 of the games were at the top of its genre alone. Fox Interactive did what few have done, create a game with 3 different genre's and making each one excellent and perfect in almost every aspect. There are 3 game genre's seperate from each other. Theres 3rd person shooting which follows Die Hard 1, theres 1st person shooting which follows Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and finally a driving game that follows Die Hard 3: Die Hard with a Vengeance.
Die Hard 1 is the 3rd person shooting type action game. Your main goal was to run around each level which was a floor in the Nakatomi Plaza Building, and kill each enemy. You could also save hostages by walking up to them and leading them to a fire escape, which later in roof-top bonus levels to have them escape by helicopter. The graphics were very good back in the early Playstation or Saturn days. The camera would be a slight behind/tilted over head view of John McClane who wore the trademark sleeveless T-shirt and had no shoes. Defeating each enemy in a stage took strategy, you just couldn't run out and shoot since you would also be shot. Think Metal Gear Solid but more action and destruction. each level is designed like a maze and had a boss to fight off as well, which each level was on a different floor of the Nakatomi Building. You can also pick up health in the form of pop-cans, hot dogs and health packs. Some of the various weapons spread all over the levels were Machine Guns, Shot Guns, Grenades, and more. John McClane 9mm Handgun had unlimmited bullets.
Die Hard 2(Or known as Die Harder) is a 1st person shooter/targer type game, think Virtua Cop for the Sega Saturn and you'll know what I mean. The game is played in the very well detailed Dulles Airport, and theres so many Enemies and hostages to kill and save it'll give even John McClane a headache. The most impressive thing about Die Hard 2 is how fast it gets without little slow time, but in some cases it may slow down. The object of the game is to shoot all the terrorists and watch out for waving crazed civilians while watching your health( In the form of little badges). Health, Weapons, and stuff like that float after being found and you must shoot them to get the content. Some weapons you might find easier to use, the Hand gun is much more effective then the very slow shut guns. The Explosive Shotguns are even worse as they can tend to blow up civilians as well.
The third and final game is Die Hard 3: Die Hard with a Vengeance, which is a driving game. Your goal is to follow the map and head to the next bomb location and run into it to detonate it. You must use all sources to get to the bomb in time, that might even mean running down people or using Ambulances to push cars outta the way. The background voices of John McClane and Zeus give it a true Die Hard feeling as they both yell at each other, saying things like "I need an asprin," or "Are you aiming for those people!" Think Twisted Metal, but more open with more action and violence. You also may have to fight car-bombs by running into the car who tries to get away until you destroy it. Theres 15 different cars to find in a level by following the blue arrow, follow the other arrow to find the next bomb. But remember there's very little time for goofing around. the levels are based in New York City and give it a very nice touch.
The run-down is Die Hard Trilogy is one of the best Playstation and Sega Saturn games ever to hit the market. Die Hard Trilogy also is a Greatest Hits title for Playstation, which not many Playstation games become unless they're that good. The background voices and gore and voilence give it the Die Hard feeling for a fan of the series of newcomer. Remember its not Mature rated for nothing, and may not be suitable for everyone with the blood and so on.

- TriviaIn the "Die Hard 1" part of the game, in Level 7 Executive 1, there is one hostage who is killed within seconds after the start of the level; the only way to save him is to immediately proceed to the meeting room and kill the terrorists without hitting the hostage. Based on the look of this level (a floor filled with models) and the location of the hostage (meeting room), he is presumably meant to represent Mr Takagi from Piège de cristal (1988), who was executed by Hans Gruber early in the movie.
