this live performance film from the Serious Moonlight tour is Bowie at his finest...no gimmicks...the music stands on it's own...Bowie and his band are flawless...an outstanding collection of all his greatest songs...have watched this concert over and over and it never gets tired...the performance is very energetic and fresh...the stage costumes are spot on for the time...(mid 80's)...featuring one of the best recordings of Young American ever recorded...Modern Love..Fashion...Heros..Look Back in Anger...this film is an excellent archive of Bowies talent and enduring style...also note the title related surprise during the closing number of the concert...
If you're in the mood to see David Bowie (circa early eighties) make a complete ass of himself, looking unbelievably smarmy in leisure suit and a bleached blonde blowdry, with hilariously awful stage production and video toaster-like special effects, this is the film for you.
Just a wonderful concert- I wish they didn't cut several songs for tome- but pretty damn great. Not perfect but that was almost all post production- bad f/x added in. Absolutely loved Cracked Actor. He just looked like he was having fun.
There are some great Bowie songs on this video but everything is far too slick. This was filmed at a time when Bowie was cashing in on his hit album and playing all his hits in a sanitized manner. Rent the Ziggy Stardust movie instead.
I remember buying this one a two VHS cassette pack in 1987 when I went to London, having always been a huge Bowie fan I had to have those two..
The show is awesome, for being in 1983 - it shows Bowie on the tour he would later become the most tired of, The Serious Moonlight tour, but tour to promote the album Let's Dance, featuring huge hits like of course Let's Dance, and China Girl...all songs he would later regret having written, yet still performs on tours for some reason..
A terrific show, a definite must-GET if you're a Bowie fan..
Cannot really rate it as a film, but the production value is very high and therefore, for the sheer entertainment it delivers:
8/10
