    Vibrant story and performances

The film Malootty is a cinematic work belonging to the family drama and survival thriller genres. It was directed by Bharathan.

The narrative reflects on a family, in which a young man returns home on leave to participate in his mother's birthday celebrations and to meet his wife and daughter. The mother and wife had a poor relationship. The mother reprimanded and disregarded her on each occasion, without offering any justifiable rationale. She undermined the joyous occasions shared between her husband and herself. The family did not have the opportunity to spend time together. When the mother-in-law overstepped the boundaries of acceptable behaviour, they decided to go on vacation in order to spend time together. The plot of the film then turned into a survival thriller in the second half of the film, when their child, Malootty, fell into a large borewell hole during their vacation. The police, fire brigade and doctors all attempted to rescue the child. After numerous attempts, they were successful in their mission.

The film's narrative is dynamic and engaging, and its direction is commendable. The performances of the cast are also noteworthy. If this film were to have been made today, it would undoubtedly possess a high degree of rewatchability.
