Highlander: The Animated Series

This cartoon continues the highlander movies and series.Quentin McLeod and his sister are interesting charachters.Immortals here supposed to gather and pass knowledge through the centuries.Quentin has to face Kortan an immortal ruler,Kortan,who has already killed Konnor McLeod.Quentin is destined to become the last of the immortals. Although interesting,it has lot's of continuity problems.Quentin's teacher is Ramirez who,in the 1986 film,was killed back on 1542.A reincarnation of him died in the 1991 movie.So how could he be alive? In the first,second and third film Konnor was supposed to be the last of the immortals.So how could all of this immortals have survived? Quickenings here pass knowledge not power.Kortan beheads immortals.Quentin is passed the knowledge of immortals who willingly quit of their immortality.If there was such kind of a trick wouldn't it have happened before. Asside all thought this series is interesting.An alternative look on immortals.Recommended to all highlander fans.

When this cartoon came out on tv years ago i was hooked on it. The music, the animation, and the simple plots make it a must watch for non highlander fans who are too young to see the movies as well as the live action series. This show didn't last as long as the live action but spawned some merchandise.

As a huge fan of the Highlander franchise I found this series to be immensely disappointing. It is overly kid friendly and I mean for very young kids. It is extremely two dimensional. This is not only in its animation style but also with its characters. They lack depth, almost to the point of the characters just being silly. From episode to episode there is no character development. As such, each episode is essentially an independent story. For kids 5-8 yrs old their interest might be held. Unfortunately for more die hard Highlander fans, there can be only one, and I must say this is definitely not it.

The worst part of this series is being a part of the franchise, because it can set certain expectations that won't be met. IMHO, this series is much more interesting than anything you could expect from a kid-friendly adaptation. They moved everything to post apocalypse, so they can have as much creative freedom as they wanted. And some of the concepts are quite bald and unique, never could be expected to be featured in a Highlander franchise. And this baldness is the thing I can respect. Every episode is a self-contained story with fast pacing and one the most creative usage of Saturday morning cartoon formula you can see around, to be short about it. The fact some immortals can actually die makes each story much less predictable and thus, more engaging. The art style is mostly hit or miss, but to me it sells the idea of "toy commercial post apocalypse", which is a product of 80s to 90s cartoons, to me it has its own charm. There are some major flows though - even though usage of formula is creative, formula is a formula - you have this big bad villain, heroes always win, et cetera. But you can call me a fan boy if you want (just trust me, I am not), but I just can't be mad about this show.

This fun animated TV series may not be as good as the HIGHLANDER movies starring Christopher Lambert, but it's still very enjoyable. Each episode is non-stop animated fun. The show is like the movies except less violent because it is aimed at kids who watch the USA network. It follows the adventures of young Quentin MacLeod who I guess is somehow related to Duncan MacLeod in some way, but I don't know how. Just like in the movies, MacLeod always manages to save the day except this time there isn't any bloodshed. Sure, it mocks the violence of the movies, but that is why it's so enjoyable. It's good fun without too much violence and no blood or gore. Too bad it was canceled so quickly, it was one of the best shows during the 1994-1995 TV season.
