“The Morning Show” is about to get a lot more louche.

Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s hit drama series for Season 4, the streaming service announced Tuesday.

Irons will play Martin Levy, the father of Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston). According to TVLine, the character is described as “a charming, sharp, deep-thinking man with a sense of humor. And, in what has probably not been super fun for Alex her entire life, Martin pulls no emotional punches.” In other words, a perfect role for Jeremy Irons. He is expected to appear in approximately six episodes of Season 4.

Irons is the second Academy Award winner recently added to the cast of “The Morning Show;” Marion Cotillard is joining the series as a French businesswoman named Celine Dumont. Before Irons was cast, it was reported Oscar winner Kevin Kline had been approached for the part as well.

Irons first rose to prominence in 1981, when he starred opposite Meryl Streep in “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” in the roles of Charles Henry Smithson and Mike. Also among his long list of credits is “Moonlighting” (1982), “The Mission,” “Dead Ringers” (1988), “Reversal of Fortune” (1990), “Lolita” (1997), “Margin Call” (2011), “The Borgias” (2011-2013) and “Watchmen” (2019). In 1994, he voiced Scar in “The Lion King,” and from 2016 to 2023, he played Alfred Pennyworth in four DC Extended Universe films.

Throughout his career, Irons has won an Oscar, two Golden Globes, three Emmys, a SAG Award and a Tony. He is repped by CAA.

UK-based sales and finance company Protagonist Pictures has lined up Simon Curtis’ Encore for international sales ahead of Cannes, starring Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Henry Winkler and Don Johnson.

UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are handling the US sale.

Producers are Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner for Temple Hill Entertainment, the US outfit behind The Twilight Saga and The Maze Runner trilogy, which have grossed over $5.3bn and $949m worldwide respectively. Ryan Cunningham serves as co-producer. Robert Nelson Jacobs, whose credits include Chocolat, has written the script.

Malachy McCourt, an Irish American author who also appeared on television as the bartender in “Ryan’s Hope,” died in Manhattan on March 11. He was 92.

The New York Times received confirmation of his death from his wife, Diana McCourt. He told the newspaper last year that he dealt with a myriad of ailments, including a heart condition, multiple forms of cancer and muscular degeneration.

McCourt appeared in soap operas including “Ryan’s Hope,” in which had a recurring role as a bartender. The show, which ran from 1975 to 1989, focused on an Irish American family living in Washington Heights. Some of McCourt’s film credits include “Reversal of Fortune,” “Bonfire of Vanities,” “The Other Guys,” “After.Life,” “The Devil’s Own” and “Q: The Winged Serpent.”

McCourt was born in Brooklyn to Irish parents on Sept. 20, 1931. His parents relocated the family to Limerick, Ireland, where he spent formative years alongside his older brother, Frank. He...

Born and raised in Badenweller, Goldschmidt started his career in entertainment working across Europe. After spearheading operations in Germany, Goldschmidt was promoted to the position of European Sales Manager in Paris and later, President of UA Europe.

Oscar winner Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Palme d’Or-winning director Bille August’s prestige limited series “The Count of Monte Cristo,” which also stars Sam Claflin.

A sprawling adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, the English-language series is produced by Mediawan’s banner Palomar, the leading Italian company behind “That Dirty Black Bag” and “The Name of the Rose,” in collaboration with another Mediawan label, France’s Demd Productions. The series’ five-month shoot will wrap in Malta in December, after having lensed in France and Italy.

Surprise! Legendary director Barbet Schroeder, in Locarno to introduce his latest doc “Ricardo and Painting,” was greeted with a Special Tribute Award before the screening.

He has been working steadily as a leading man since the 1970s when his early collaborations with Martin Scorsese put him on the map. During their decades-spanning working relationship, De Niro’s work with the filmmaker has earned him four of his eight Oscar nods.

Steven Felder, a producer who worked on hundreds of episodes of CSI and in various capacities on Miami Vice, FBI: Most Wanted, Reversal of Fortune and many other TV series and films, died February 19 of pneumonia.

A rep confirmed the death to Deadline. Felder’s age was not available.

Felder began his career in film in the late 1970s, serving as second unit director on Jonathan Demme’s Last Embrace. He went on to work on features including Wolfen and Jumpin’ Jack Flash before pivoting to TV in the mid-’80s. Ed Pressman was cool. And he had taste. He didn’t care what other people thought of a given project. If he thought it was cool, that was enough. He kept his own counsel; he was quiet. But if he wanted something, he let you know. He was not one to take no for an answer.

This helps to explain how he came to produce some 80 films over the decades. And he had not slowed down in recent years. When Ed and his son Sam came to IndieWire’s Cannes party two years ago, Ed found a quiet corner and worked his phone. Pressman died January 17 of respiratory failure, at age 79.

Edward R. Pressman, the prolific Hollywood indie producer behind Wall Street, Badlands, American Psycho, Das Boot and The Crow, among dozens of others, died Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 79.

His death was confirmed to Deadline his company, Pressman Films.

With dozens of acclaimed and impactful films and TV movies stretching back to the late 1960s and including now-classics like Conan the Barbarian, Talk Radio, Bad Lieutenant and Brian De Palma’s 1972 Sisters, Pressman was noted for discovering talented directors early in their careers. In addition to Sisters he produced De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise, and, with the acclaimed 1973 TV-movie Badlands, Terrence Malick. Jason Reitman made his directing debut in Pressman’s 2005 Aaron Eckhart starrer Thank You for Smoking.

An early collaboration with Oliver Stone on the 1981 drama The Hand paved the way for Talk Radio (1988) and the 1987 Oscar-winning Wall Street. He and Stone produced Kathryn Bigelow’s early film Blue Steel (1990).

Among the other directors with whom Pressman would forge early bonds were Alex Proyas (The Crow), Sylvester Stallone (Paradise Alley) and Sam Raimi (Crimewave).

Among his many other credits both domestic and international, either as producer or executive producer, are Fred Schepisi’s Plenty, starring Meryl Streep; Wolfgang Petersen’s Das Boot; Mary Harron’s American Psycho, with Christian Bale; James Toback’s Two Girls and a Guy; Harold Becker’s City Hall, starring Al Pacino; Danny DeVito’s Hoffa, starring Jack Nicholson; Charles Burnett’s To Sleep With Anger, starring Danny Glover; Barbet Schroeder’s Reversal of Fortune, starring Jeremy Irons in an Oscar-winning performance as Claus von Bülow; and John Frankenheimer’s The Island of Dr. Moreau, with Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer.

Pressman also earned Emmy and PGA Award nom as an executive producer of the 2018 HBO telefilm Paterno, and former longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. The producer also was nominated for back-to-back Indie Spirit Awards in 1992 and ’93 for Homicide and Bad Lieutenant, respectively, and received Film Independent’s John Cassavetes Award in 1991. He also received a Tribute Award from the Gothams in 2003.

A native New Yorker and Stanford University graduate who also studied at the London School of Economics, Pressman has been honored by the French Cinematheque, The National Film Theatre in London, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Pacific Film Archives and the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Cinematék, among others.

Pressman is survived by his wife of 39 years, Annie McEnroe Pressman, and son Sam Pressman, who has worked for Edward R. Pressman Productions for the past decade and says he will continue producing films for the company in honor of his father.

The messy legal battle over Netflix’s Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich docuseries has now gotten down and dirty.

In a flurry of filings Monday, the streamer, director-showrunner Lisa Bryant, executive producer Joe Berlinger, and producers RadicalMedia LLC and Leroy & Morton Productions LLC all denied Alan Dershowitz’s claims of defamation and more made in May this year when he said he was hoodwinked into appearing in the high-profile series in 2019.

In very similar language from their mutual attorneys at Palm Beach’s Shullman Fugate Pllc and NYC’s Davis Wright Tremain Llp, they all also denied there was any special deal to show Dershowitz’s so-called “materials” or “evidence” of his non-involvement with then-teenager Virginia Giuffre, as they looked at the widely publicized allegations that he had sex with a minor groomed by the now mysteriously dead convicted sex offender.

Bunim-Murray Prods. has a new boss: Julie Pizzi has been named president of the Banijay-owned studio. As president of Bunim-Murray Prods., Pizzi will report to Cris Abrego, chairman of the Americas for Banijay and president/CEO of Endemol Shine Holdings. She fills the void left by the departure of longtime Bunim-Murray chairman/CEO Gil Goldschein, who officially exited the shingle earlier this month.

Abrego made the announcement of Pizzi’s appointment on Wednesday. She was most recently president of entertainment and development at Bunim-Murray. The move comes as part of a reorganization following the announcement in November that Bunim-Murray would be part of Abrego’s oversight.

Jeremy Irons has been cast opposite Lady Gaga in MGM’s murder drama “Gucci,” with Ridley Scott directing.

Gaga will portray Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci. She had been abandoned after 12 years of marriage by Gucci in 1985 for a younger woman. Reggiani was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in Italy in 1995. She gained the nickname the Black Widow during the trial and served 18 years before being released from prison in 2016.

The story about the Gucci murder is scripted by Roberto Bentivegna, based on Sara Gay Forden’s book “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.” Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney are also attached to “Gucci.” Producers are Ridley and Giannina Scott via Scott Free Productions as well as Kevin Walsh.

“Watchmen” actor Jeremy Irons is headlining Netflix original film “Munich,” an adaptation of the bestselling 2017 novel by Robert Harris (“Fatherland”).

The film is set in the fall of 1938 when Europe stands on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain’s government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. “The Nest,” directed by Sean Durkin and starring Jude Law and Carrie Coon, was the big winner at the recently concluded 46th Deauville American Film Festival, taking home the grand prize, the 2020 Louis Roed­er­er Fon­da­tion Rev­e­la­tion prize and the Critic’s prize.

The jury, led by actor Vanessa Paradis, also gave Jury Prizes to Kel­ly Reichardt’s “First Cow” and Sabrina Doyle’s “Lorelei.”

The Revelation jury, led by filmmaker Rebec­ca Zlo­tows­ki (“Savages”), gave the directing prize to Kitty Green’s “The Assistant.”

When he came onboard as artistic director at the Deauville American Film Festival in 1995, Bruno Barde went about retooling the event.

He started by introducing the official competition — to showcase new voices in American independent cinema before a predominantly French jury — and thought to make his vision for the festival clear with an unmistakable visual.

“I saw us as a French perspective on American cinema,” Barde says. “So it’s no accident that the poster [that year] featured a bridge linking Deauville to New York.”

In planning this year’s poster, which features a pensive Kirk Douglas in profile, the festival chief wanted to convey a similar set of intentions.

“When Kirk passed away [in February], I knew we had to honor him. We put him on the poster, with that look towards the future, because he was a man who always looked to the future, who was also a kind of bridge.
