Deadline reports that Netflix is looking at Daniel Craig to join the cast of Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia movie. There are no details on who Craig might play, but the report states that it’s still very early in the process.

Production on the Chronicles of Narnia movie is expected to kick off later this year, so we should hear more casting news in the near future. In fact, it was reported last week that Grammy-winning artist Charli Xcx was also being eyed for a role in the movie, believed to be Jadis the White Witch.

Nothing has been officially announced yet, but it’s likely that the film will be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. Although it was the sixth book published in the seven-novel series, it takes place 1000 years before the events of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.

With Netflix's upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia reboot in development, fans are excited about a fresh take on the series, and hopeful that all of the books will be adapted. The Narnia films, while certainly beloved, lost a lot of steam after the first movie, with the third film, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, being the final film, despite there being four more books in the series.

Disney's The Lion the Witch in the Wardrobe movie is 20 years old this year. Despite two sequels eventually coming out in theaters, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the franchise never got to adapt the whole of The Chronicles of Narnia book series by C.W. Lewis. But now, enough time has passed for Netflix to try making its own set of Narnia movies, and they've hired Barbie director Greta Gerwig to helm them. While Netflix is often loathe to release its movies is theaters, her first Narnia film will get a (limited) theatrical release!

Netflix has released a few movies in theaters over the years. For instance, tick, tick…Boom!, Army of the Dead and The Power of the Dog got limited theatrical releases. But mostly, new Netflix movies drop on the streaming service and there they remain, never to be experienced on the big screen.

There are few awards shows more mean-spirited than the Razzie Awards, which each year join the awards season circus to ridicule the previous year’s most notable flops. 2024 gave the Razzies plenty of punching bags, as Joker: Folie a Deux, Megalopolis, and Madame Web were among the nominees for Worst Picture.

The other films rounding out the five Worst Picture nominees were video game adaptation Borderlands and Dennis Quaid vanity project/biopic Reagan. All five movies were also well-represented in additional categories including Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo.

Joker: Folie à Deux leads the Razzie Awards noms, which recognize the worst movies and performances of the year, with a total of seven mentions.

Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan followed with six noms apiece, it was announced Tuesday. Unfrosted landed with four noms, while The Crow nabbed two noms.

Among the actors receiving mentions were Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump’s newly appointed “Ambassadors to Hollywood,” who was nominated for his performances in a “near record” four films in one year.

Organizers joked that the worst picture nominees will compete for a “$4.97 gold spray-painted” statuette and shared their thoughts on each of the films in contention (see below).

Nominees were chosen via emailed ballots to 1,202 Razzie members (movie buffs, film critics and journalists) from 49 states and about two dozen foreign countries who chose five top contenders in each of nine categories.

The Lion King is famous for all sorts of good reasons; firstly, it's a fantastic story; secondly, it has a killer soundtrack; and, thirdly, it can appeal to all ages. The 1994 film became the foundation for modern pop culture, and with its wonderful story and emotionally powerful tunes, there’s a reason Simba and Co. have remained King.

Unfortunately for the lion of the rock, eventually every king gets dethroned and that’s more than a repeated fact for Simba’s dad. And whilst overall, it seems Sonic 3 will beat Mufasa, for the Martin Luther King Day weekend box office, the one-day crown almost passed from Mufasa to One of Them Days.

The domestic box office has seen multiple major upsets, with Mufasa: The Lion King, One of Them Days, and Wolf Man all performing much differently than expected. The Universal Monster remake Wolf Man, which is Leigh Whannell's follow-up to 2020's The Invisible Man, opened over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, on the same day as the new Keke Palmer comedy One of Them Days. The Lion King prequel is the oldest of the trio, as the Mufasa release kicked off back in 2024, the weekend before Christmas.

Greta Gerwig has the tough job of following up Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia movies, and one particular casting choice will be challenging to beat. While Disney only managed to adapt three of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy books, they were each a fair success. This makes the bar for Gerwig's upcoming take on The Chronicles of Narnia all the higher. The Barbie director will have to go above and beyond Disney's casting, visuals, tone, theme, and more, and when it comes to one of the most important characters of Lewis' Narnia franchise, this could well be impossible.

Gerwig is confirmed to be directing at least two Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix. If these do well, more is sure to follow, and we could potentially see all seven of C.S. Lewis' children's fantasy novels brought to the screen for the first time. Most of these feature a variety of characters.
