While Snow White is Disney's latest live-action remake, it appears they are already beginning to shift focus to their next one as they unveiled the first clip for Lilo & Stitch. One of two live-action adaptations of an animated film by Chris Sanders (the other being How to Train Your Dragon) coming in 2025, Lilo & Stitch is looking to be one of the biggest movies of the summer movie season. Marketing is in full swing now, as Disney released a series of fun posters that are a play on the original Lilo & Stitch's marketing where the blue alien crashed iconic Disney sequences.
Drew Smith, known as Drew The Disney Dude on his YouTube channel, posted on X the first official clip for Lilo & Stitch. The scene sees Nani (Sydney Elizebeth Agudong) taking her little sister Lilo (Maia Kealoha) and the recently adopted Stitch to her work in a...

Disney has been producing animated films for decades, which have become more successful over the years. From Beauty and the Beast to The Lion King, the brand put out some critically acclaimed and still-loved works throughout the 20th century. The company later bought Pixar and produced some of the modern era's most acclaimed and successful animated films, including last year's Inside Out 2, which was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time for a brief period, before being dethroned by 2025's Ne Zha 2.
In recent years, however, Disney has been reviving their past animated successes to prop up live-action remakes. This kicked off with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which became an increasing trend throughout the 2010s and 2020s. Most recently, Disney is releasing a live-action Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. The first Snow White reviews are in, but they are skewing mixed to negative,...

It's been ten years since Disney released its live-action version of Cinderella, starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the movie was overall a critical and commercial hit, and ushered in a new era of Disney remakes, kicking off a trend that was already being announced with 2010's Alice in Wonderland and 2014's Maleficent, sparsely produced films that didn't yet give signs of the industrial levels of production that were to come. Indeed, Cinderella is a pretty fun adventure-romance, with good performances and a story and look that don't necessarily follow the 1950 classic all that closely. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the movies that came after it. While some, like the unfortunately direct-to-streaming release Peter Pan & Wendy, are entertaining and inventive. Most, however, like the photorealistic version of The Lion King or the absolute mess that was Pinocchio, are well below the quality standards that...

One of the most anticipated fantasy projects in the pipeline is Netflix's take on The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis' classic fantasy series. There are seven Narnia books in all, and while Netflix hasn't officially announced how the series will be adapted, all signs point to the streamer making one movie per book, with the first to start filming this summer for a 2026 release.
But which book will Netflix and director Greta Gerwig adapt first? Again, while nothing's been confirmed, there's a large amount of evidence pointing to it being The Magician's Nephew, which might be a bad idea.
Chronologically the first book in the Chronicles, The Magician's Nephew was actually published sixth in, as a prequel that shows the creation of Narnia; it's roughly analogous to the book of Genesis in the Bible, in keeping with the Christian themes of the series. The first Narnia book published,...

Greta Gerwig and Netflix are set to tread new ground with their Chronicles of Narnia reboot. The role Daniel Craig is being eyed for has reportedly been revealed, and it's a character that only appears in one Narnia book.
According to What's on Netflix, Craig has been offered the role of Andrew Ketterley, the eccentric and morally ambiguous uncle of Digory Kirke who is one of the main antagonists of The Magician's Nephew. Published in 1955 as the sixth Narnia novel, The Magician's Nephew is chronologically the first story set in C.S. Lewis' fantasy series. The report adds that Gerwig will be adapting the 1955 children's novel as her first of two Narnia movies, which is tentatively titled Narnia: The Magician's Nephew.

Following the recent reports that the casting of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie franchise is now underway, a new rumor has suggested that the first film in the franchise is already eyeing a big-name star to play a key role. As per What’s on Netflix, the adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew is looking to snag former James Bond star Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew Ketterley, one of the main antagonists of the first book in The Chronicles of Narnia.
In the story, Andrew is Digory Kirke’s eccentric and morally ambiguous uncle. As one of the antagonists of The Magician’s Nephew. Andrew is the magician of the title, and an alchemist who, in the books, tricks Digory’s friend into entering the world that most people know as lying beyond an unassuming wardrobe. Through Andrew's experiments, Jadis, the White Witch, is transported to London, and mayhem follows with her.

Deadline reports that Netflix is looking at Daniel Craig to join the cast of Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia movie. There are no details on who Craig might play, but the report states that it’s still very early in the process.
Production on the Chronicles of Narnia movie is expected to kick off later this year, so we should hear more casting news in the near future. In fact, it was reported last week that Grammy-winning artist Charli Xcx was also being eyed for a role in the movie, believed to be Jadis the White Witch.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, but it’s likely that the film will be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. Although it was the sixth book published in the seven-novel series, it takes place 1000 years before the events of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Throughout the years, Disney has released some of the most popular and beloved movies. These movies have iconic characters and scenes that many fans still remember fondly even years after the movie's release. In other cases, some Disney movies are remembered for their iconic opening scenes. And such is the case of many classic old Disney movies that still have some of the best openings in a Disney movie.
Movies like The Lion King or Mulan have incredible opening scenes that many fans still remember fondly. Whether it's because of an opening song or a unique title sequence, or because the opening puts viewers right in the middle of the action, a few old Disney movies knew how to captivate audiences from the start. And while there are many recent movies that also have gripping opening scenes, old Disney movies still have some of the best and most iconic beginnings.

Mufasa: The Lion King North America Box Office: Hits $250 Million (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The Disney feature is one of the oldest releases to maintain still a spot in the domestic box office chart in North America. Despite specific challenges, Mufasa: The Lion King has successfully crossed a major and probably its final milestone in North America. The feature film is available on digital platforms and thus loses theatres exponentially in the US every week. However, people are still keen to watch it on the big screens. Keep scrolling for more.
Although it faces several new releases, it has an extra appeal to the audience, being a family genre movie. If it hadn’t lost numerous screens and hit the digital platforms, then it would have minted comparitively more money than a few of the other movies in the domestic chart. It is really trying to stay in the game for as long as possible.

A famous quote by a poet named Cesar A. Cruz poses the idea that "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable." It can apply to everything, and it's more relevant than ever. It's especially pertinent with movies, as filmmakers often go out of their way to create unique experiences for the viewers. So, not every motion picture is designed for everyone.

Disney'sPocahontas (1995) was highly anticipated upon its premiere. It was released in the middle of the Disney Renaissance of the 1990s, when each new release from Disney was almost guaranteed to be a success. This was also roughly five years before the Disney Princess brand had been launched by the company. So, the idea of Disney Princesses was perceived somewhat differently than it is today. And Pocahontas did not perform up to Disney's own preset expectations.
Pocahontas was released on video and later DVD in various editions. For the 10th-anniversary edition DVD release, Disney included a deleted sequence between John Smith and Pocahontas. And this particular omission had the potential to remind audiences that Pocahontas' story could have played out very differently on-screen.

In 1994, Disney's animated film The Lion King launched a huge franchise that audiences still can't get enough of, even today. After three decades of sequels, spin-offs, and remakes, fans young and old continue gravitating toward the original, compelling narrative about family, sacrifice, individual responsibility, and finding one's purpose through redemption. With the recent theatrical release of the live-action prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, Disney's well-loved story expands — giving us a fresh look at familiar characters.
The film follows Mufasa and Scar's early life, providing fans with context regarding their eventual rivalry. This epic addition has also brought some viewers back through the franchise's catalog, revisiting past favorites and discovering new content (there's plenty to choose from). With several direct sequels to the classic that started it all, television specials, and the latest live-action movies, it's hard to know where to start. Here's a breakdown of each title in The Lion King franchise since its inception,...

The House of Mouse's follow-up to its “roaring” 2019 box office success, The Lion King, will be available on the usual VOD platforms, including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV+ later this month. Despite its imminent release, Mufasa: The Lion King remains a strong earner at the box office despite dropping in theaters back on Dec. 20, 2024. It is also poised to pass its animated competitor, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, at the domestic box office sometime this week. Disney fans can enjoy Mufasa: The Lion King from the comfort of their own homes beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Mufasa secured the No. 3 spot in the weekend box office’s Top 5 with another $6.3 million (per The Numbers) and ranked behind only the new titles Dog Man ($36 million) and Companion ($9.3 million). That brings the House of Mouse's latest big-screen effort to a total of $229.7 million (domestic), which will soon surpass Sonic 3’s $230.6 million.

Disney animated movies are some of the best and most beloved animated movies of all time. With classics like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney has released many iconic animated movies that are still popular today. And through their partnership with Pixar Animation Studios, they have introduced several other popular films, such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Inside Out. But while these animated films continue to have loyal fans, some of these fans who've seen their favorite animated movie multiple times have found a few plot holes in these beloved stories.
There are many plot holes in Disney animated movies, some of which have been explained one way or another. In some cases, fan theories perfectly explain something that would otherwise not make sense. Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Mufasa: The Lion King.Mufasa: The Lion King fails as an expansion of the beloved Disney franchise. The Lion King remake is not a great adaptation of the classic 1994 original film, but at least it was working from superior source material. For the most part, Mufasa unfolds as an incredibly flawed, unnecessary addition to the franchise, creating backstories for the franchise characters that contradict the classic original film. The film also detracts from Simba's journey in The Lion King. Here's where Mufasa: The Lion King goes wrong.

For a long time, sequels to Disney’s animated movies were created primarily for straight-to-home releases. These movies were often perceived as lower in quality, although many were underrated at the time. While they rarely matched the original in scope and depth, the stronger entries still provided beloved characters with new challenges to grow and learn from.
Thanks to the success of sequels from DreamWorks and Pixar, Disney’s animation studio has become more ambitious with theatrical releases for their sequels. Whether it’s a 2D hand-drawn film from Disney’s Renaissance era or a modern 3D big-budget production, the studio is building an impressive library of animated sequels.

Disney's The Lion the Witch in the Wardrobe movie is 20 years old this year. Despite two sequels eventually coming out in theaters, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the franchise never got to adapt the whole of The Chronicles of Narnia book series by C.W. Lewis. But now, enough time has passed for Netflix to try making its own set of Narnia movies, and they've hired Barbie director Greta Gerwig to helm them. While Netflix is often loathe to release its movies is theaters, her first Narnia film will get a (limited) theatrical release!

Joker: Folie à Deux leads the Razzie Awards noms, which recognize the worst movies and performances of the year, with a total of seven mentions.
Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan followed with six noms apiece, it was announced Tuesday. Unfrosted landed with four noms, while The Crow nabbed two noms.
Among the actors receiving mentions were Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump’s newly appointed “Ambassadors to Hollywood,” who was nominated for his performances in a “near record” four films in one year.
Organizers joked that the worst picture nominees will compete for a “$4.97 gold spray-painted” statuette and shared their thoughts on each of the films in contention (see below).
Nominees were chosen via emailed ballots to 1,202 Razzie members (movie buffs, film critics and journalists) from 49 states and about two dozen foreign countries who chose five top contenders in each of nine categories.

The Lion King is famous for all sorts of good reasons; firstly, it's a fantastic story; secondly, it has a killer soundtrack; and, thirdly, it can appeal to all ages. The 1994 film became the foundation for modern pop culture, and with its wonderful story and emotionally powerful tunes, there’s a reason Simba and Co. have remained King.
Unfortunately for the lion of the rock, eventually every king gets dethroned and that’s more than a repeated fact for Simba’s dad. And whilst overall, it seems Sonic 3 will beat Mufasa, for the Martin Luther King Day weekend box office, the one-day crown almost passed from Mufasa to One of Them Days.

Babygirl Worldwide Box Office: 4th Friday Update ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Nicole Kidman is showcasing her star power at the box office as her film Babygirl becomes one of the highest-grossing films of A24. The erotic thriller was directed by Halina Reijn, featuring Kidman in the lead role as the hot-shot CEO who puts her career and family on the line as she begins an affair with her intern. The movie’s estimated budget is a decent $20 million, and the movie has successfully recovered it; however, to break even, it needs to collect around $50 million and more to earn profits. It will not be surprising if it manages to achieve that feat, as the small-budget movies performed really well last year.

Mufasa: The Lion King challenges the franchise’s core belief about the Circle of Life, creating an interesting contrast to the idyllic narrative of The Lion King. While the 1994 movie presents this philosophy as a guiding truth, symbolizing balance and interconnectedness in the animal kingdom, the prequel reveals cracks in this ideal. Talking back to the longstanding The Lion King plot point that never made sense, the movie responds to the question of why the animals of the Pride Lands serve their predator, but the answer isn’t all good.
Mufasa: The Lion King’s ending, though claiming Mufasa earned his title by protecting Milele, actually demonstrates the dark reality of the Circle of Life. The events leading to Simba’s father being crowned king of the Pride Lands explore the thin line between survival and power, underscoring The Lion King’s emphasis on nature’s balance. The characters in The Chronicles of Narnia got their start in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but what happens at the end of their stories? The beloved book series by author C.S. Lewis has an answer. While Disney adapted three of the Narnia books to the screen, the remaining four within the series have been left untold. Hopefully, future adaptations will change this, and the Pevensies and other primary Narnia characters can finally have their full story told.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig has a new Chronicles of Narnia movie series on the way, and it's hoped that this will ultimately lead to the full story being brought to the screen. Lewis' final Narnia book, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, details the end of Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy's adventures, as well as those of Aslan, the Professor, and Eustace Scrubb. It's a far more tragic tale...

Mufasa: The Lion King tells an original story set in The Lion King universe, with the prequel confirming one potential issue that a live-action remake of The Lion King 1 1/2 would have to face. Despite there being outcry for a remake of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride after the success of the 2019 remake of The Lion King, Disney decided to go in a different direction, instead telling a different story about the origin of Mufasa. However, Mufasa: The Lion King highlighted how a remake of The Lion King 1 1/2 could work, although not perfectly.
The Lion King 1 1/2 is a 2004 direct-to-video midquel set during the events of 1994's The Lion King. The film explores what Timon and Pumbaa got up to before the events of the original animated movie, with the film highlighting the duo's history and fleshing out their storylines. The Lion King 1 1/2 is far more focused on comedy than the original The Lion King,...

Disney has been on a roll of remaking their older classics. Be it Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, The Jungle Book, or most famously The Lion King. With multiple prequels, sequels, live-action, and different animated versions, The Lion King has become one of Disney’s most profitable franchises.

So, it is no wonder that they keep reprising the same content over and over. However, for many, multiple variations of the same story time and again has completely dissolved whatever charm the movie held initially.
However, there is one Disney movie that touched the hearts of fans across the globe yet somehow managed to skip this trend for the most part. That is, Big Hero 6, and the fans couldn’t be happier about it.

Now, Jenkins is the director of Mufasa: The Lion King, and he’s become an expert on the Pride Lands and their inhabitants. Jenkins admitted he was late to The Lion King party, but once he saw it and started to understand its appeal, he was hooked in a big way. The Lion King is one of the most cherished franchises, and it all began with a groundbreaking debut in 1994. The very first movie follows the beats of Shakespeare’s Hamlet but features animals in a wild setting, a creative choice that did wonders for the film.

We still remember the iconic songs, villains, and our brave protagonist because the movies have become a pop culture staple. So Disney left no time to expand its media empire with Broadway shows, animated series, and even video games. Still, the continuous live-action movies might be a little too ambitious, and somewhat uncreative.
Another live-action spinoff is possible for The Lion King Mufasa: The Lion King | Disney

Greta Gerwig has the tough job of following up Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia movies, and one particular casting choice will be challenging to beat. While Disney only managed to adapt three of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy books, they were each a fair success. This makes the bar for Gerwig's upcoming take on The Chronicles of Narnia all the higher. The Barbie director will have to go above and beyond Disney's casting, visuals, tone, theme, and more, and when it comes to one of the most important characters of Lewis' Narnia franchise, this could well be impossible.
Gerwig is confirmed to be directing at least two Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix. If these do well, more is sure to follow, and we could potentially see all seven of C.S. Lewis' children's fantasy novels brought to the screen for the first time. Most of these feature a variety of characters.
