Les Films du Losange has released the trailer for Tony Gatlif’s “Ange,” starring Arthur H. and Mathieu Amalric, which screens Thursday in Cannes Official Selection as part of the Cinéma de la Plage section. The open-air screening will be preceded by a live concert featuring the film’s musicians, including Arthur H.

Les Films du Losange will distribute the film in France and is handling international sales.

The film centers on Ange, a rootless musician who, at 60 years old, feels a vital need to reconnect with his old friend Marco. Solea, his past love’s daughter, who is in revolt against the world, joins him on this journey. Together, they rediscover the path to joy.

As well as Arthur H. and Amalric, the cast includes Suzanne Aubert, Maria de Medeiros and Christine Citti.

The producer is Delphine Mantoulet at Prince Production, and the co-producers are Pastorale Productions and Cosmotone.

Armando Silvestre, a busy actor in the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema who appeared with Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine in Two Mules for Sister Sara, with Yul Brynner in Kings of the Sun and with Burt Lancaster in The Scalphunters, has died. He was 98.

Silvestre died June 2 in Coronado, California, a representative from the Aztlan Mortuary in nearby La Mesa told The Hollywood Reporter.

The powerfully built Silvestre made scores of films in Mexico, among them Here Comes Martin Corona (1952), Rossana (1953), Story of a Mink Coat (1955) with Silvia Pinal, La Sombra Vengadora (1956), The Miracle Roses (1960), Neutrón Contra el Dr. Caronte (1963), La Choca (1974) and Faith, Hope and Charity (1974).

He excelled in Westerns and action adventure movies early in his career en route to compiling more than 200 credits on IMDb.

Armando Silvestre Carrascosa was born in San Diego on Jan. 28, 1926, and raised in Tijuana. His younger brother was Eduardo Silvestre, winner of the Mr.

The War Wagon is a classic Western that used plenty of real-world locations to bring the story to life, making it feel much more authentic than many of the other movies of its kind released in the late 1960s. The movie was released at a time when Westerns were steadily declining in popularity, but the combination of lead star John Wayne and the attention to detail in filming locations allowed The War Wagon to rise to popularity despite the odds.

John Wayne was among the most popular movie stars of his era, and The War Wagon remains among his most beloved projects today. The 1967 Western follows a rancher who was framed for a crime that he didn’t commit, leaving him out for revenge once he’s served his time. It spans multiple different locations and settings, making it one of the most exciting and grand-scale Westerns in the genre.

The screenplay for Gus Van Sant’s 1997 drama “Good Will Hunting” turned Ben Affleck and Matt Damon into Oscar winners, but it didn’t make them rich for very long. During a recent visit to “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via IndieWire), Affleck confirmed the duo were broke six months after earning a $600,000 paycheck from selling the “Good Will Hunting” script.

“When we sold ‘Good Will Hunting’ I thought we were now rich for life,” Affleck said. “My needs are over! I’ll never have to work again! I’m rich forever! We sold [the script] for $600,000. We split that, $300,000 each, and then the agents got $30,000, so we had $270,000. We paid about $160,000 in taxes so we had $110,000. We each bought $55,000 Jeep Cherokees and then had $55,000 left.”

Affleck added, “Naturally we decided to rent a $5,000-a-month party house on Glencoe Way by the Hollywood Bowl and we were broke in six months.”

80-year-old American director Walter Hill can lay claim to have invented at least two movie genres: the street gang film — with the seminal 1979 action thriller The Warriors — and the buddy cop movie with the 1982 Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte hit 48 Hours. As a producer, Hill was behind Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking sci-fi horror blockbuster Alien and its franchise’s spin-offs, including the three Aliens sequels and the Scott-directed Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017).

But Hill’s first love is the Western. He’s explored the lives of Wild West legends Jesse James (in 1980s The Long Riders), Wild Bill Hickok (1995’s Wild Bill) and Geronimo (1993’s Geronimo: An American Legend) and turned Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo, the inspiration for Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western classic A Fistful of Dollars, into 1995 Prohibition era oater Last Man Standing.

Amazon Studios has given Kristen Stewart’s independent political thriller “Seberg” an awards-season release date of Dec. 13.

Amazon bought the film at the Berlin Film Festival. Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley, Colm Meaney, Zazie Beetz, Vince Vaughn, Stephen Root, and Yvan Attal are also starring. Benedict Andrews directed from a script by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse.

Stewart stars as actress Jean Seberg who clashes with the FBI as it attempts to discredit her through its Cointelpro program in retaliation for her support of the Black Panther Party. It's with great sorrow that I report fan-favorite Batman star Adam West has passed away. He was 88 years old and he died after a short battle with leukemia. His family offered the following statement:

“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero."

A spokesperson for the actor added:

“A true American icon and beloved father and husband, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world."

I grew up watching reruns of the original 1960's Batman series and I've always enjoyed seeing him pop up in other films and TV shows over the years. It's so sad to hear that he's passed on, but he's left behind a legacy of greatness.

The star of Zhang Yimou’s upcoming Chinese tentpole has dismissed reports accusing him of taking a role that should have gone to an Asian actor.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Damon said, “That whole idea of whitewashing, I take that very seriously.” He cited the case of Caucasian actor Chuck Connors playing Apache chief Geronimo in the 1962 action film as a case of frequent whitewashing in a bygone era of film and TV.

However Damon and Zhang said in this instance, Damon’s character of a mercenary was always meant to be European.

The subject of whitewashing is a touchy one given the climate of wariness over depiction and promotion of non-white actors in Hollywood in light of last awards season’s #oscarsowhite controvery.

Damon lashed out at websites that raised the allegation, in this case via ‘clickbait’ headlines based on a 30-second teaser trailer.

Director Zhang Yimou's fantasy film The Great Wall caused a bit of controversy when the first promos featuring Matt Damon were released. Speaking with press at New York Comic Con this past weekend, the actor addressed the concerns over his casting. The American-Chinese co-production from Legendary East stars Damon (in a role Justice League's Henry Cavill was once in talks for), Pedro Pascal, Andy Lau, Jing Tian, and Willem Dafoe. The teaser trailer for the film really drove home that Damon was the center of the story based in China which led many, including Fresh Off the Boat's Constance Wu, to speak out about the "white savior" trend. Producer-director behind a raft of 20th-century TV classics

It is no exaggeration to declare that the name of the film and television producer-director Arnold Laven, who has died aged 87, has been seen by millions of people all over the world, even if it might not have registered. Think of all those viewers of the TV series The Rifleman (1959-63) and The Big Valley (1965-69), made by Laven's company, Levy-Gardner-Laven Productions, many episodes of which he directed.

Laven was also credited as director on scores of episodes of such archetypal 1970s series as Marcus Welby MD, Gunsmoke, Mannix, Ironside, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Rockford Files and Fantasy Island. In the 1980s he directed, among others, several episodes of Hill Street Blues and The A-Team. In addition, Laven directed 11 feature films from 1952 to 1969, some for companies other than his own.
