Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo, Toby Huss, and Alexis Louder in Descente au poste (2021)
Tearing through the Nevada desert in a bullet-ridden Crown Vic, wily con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) hatches a desperate plan to hide out from lethal hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler): He sucker-punches rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) to get himself arrested and locked up in a small-town police station. Jail can't protect Murretto for long, and Viddick schemes his own way into detention, biding his time in a nearby cell until he can complete his mission. When the arrival of a competing assassin (Toby Huss) ignites all-out mayhem, mounting threats force Viddick to get creative if he wants to finish the job and escape the explosive situation.

    An entertaining action flick!

Copshop was a surprisingly good action film from start to finish. Director Joe Carnahan know's how to craft a good action movie and does so very well here. Alexis Louder really shines as the standout here and is fun to watch in every scene. Frank Grillo and Gerard Butler are also really good here. In fact this may be some of Gerard Butler's best work in a while. The story is pretty easy to follow here and won't win any awards for best screenplay. Still the action and the dialogue are very entertaining. The movie also flys by fast with a very nice runtime. I really enjoyed Copshop and I know action fans will enjoy it as well. Copshop gets a solid 7 stars out of 10 from me.

Not a Cop Out by Any Means...

Everything you've seen before but with a lot more style, some great direction and production and an outstanding performance from Alexis Louder. Getting in, to break out has seldom been better than this which is quite refreshing in these times of repetition.

The stellar casting and performances couldn't save the writing.

Grillo, Butler and Louder gave outstanding performances, and although the satirical writing was entertaining, this would've been much better if the story were taken more serious.

Then there's the even bigger issue of the huge hole left in the story, the one which didn't explain any of the twists and turns. It's almost as if the dog ate pages from the middle of the screenplay.

For the 107 minute runtime, there wasn't enough substance. Either lots of minutes needed to be trimmed down, or preferably, more backstory/substance written in. It felt like the story was more about Louder's character, and we're supposed to ignore why the things that are happening to her, are happening.

It's a shame no one picked up on these huge issues, because the directing was excellent, as was the cinematography, score and gore effects. Its a good one-time watch, and thus a 7/10 from me.

    I don't get it...what were you expecting?

This is a fun action movie not a serious crime-drama or thriller...it doesn't take itself too seriously and the cast has fun with the material. Speaking of cast, it has a great one, the writing is good, the actors have fun with it and direction is very solid and ,dare I say it, "cool". It's got that stylized look in the mould of John Wick and is just as enjoyable flick if the watcher will stop being so critical for 2 hours. Not everything has to be high-brow artistic perfection. Like Wick, this is far-fetched, its low-brow and I loved it.

Not what I was expecting, but entertaining and comical.

A comical drama that doesn't conform to expectations with an 80's presentation style, lively characters and isolated setting. It doesn't have much of a plot and it could have been a lot snappier, but the acting is good and it does hold your attention. The action scenes are few and far between and use slow motion a bit too much, but are good enough.

    • Trivia
According to Frank Grillo in a March 2021 Collider interview, when Gerard Butler briefly passed on the project, it was offered to Liam Neeson. Neeson declined due to the single-location premise, by which time Butler decided to do the movie after all.
    • Goofs
Teddy is able to break into the armory by simply breaking the glass window. It is absolutely unlikely that a police armory full of automatic weapons would not be better protected (especially if you consider that other parts of the station have bulletproof windows and security locks).

Anthony Lamb: Yeah, well. You in the cop business. So that makes you a murderer. But I'm in the murder business, so that just makes me a laborer. You see how that works?
