I was in the mood for something that would be fun to watch in the midst of a pretty dark time and relieved to find a fun, light hearted movie. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to someone else looking for a great ride!
Not for all age groups, but I had crazy good fun watching this over-the-top, no-holds-barred absurdist slice of an an indie film that obviously took its cues from Monty Python and maybe even some early slapstick. If you're looking for something to blow your mind, give this one a shot.
The Midas Touch (2020) is a film to watch alone or with a partner as it is an erotical comedy. This is something that made the film quite repetitive to me, the fact that the jokes are almost entirely sexual or related to sex. Nonetheless, the plot is quite nice and cohesive. Felix, the main character, lives a "miserable" life and is just noticed when people want to bully him. This changes when he receives a gift, The Midas Touch, that is not related to gold, but with attracting women. I liked the change in Felix's life and personality, it's well done. The film doesn't take itself seriously and feels like a parody sometimes, what improves the comedy. It also has lines in which the characters act as if they knew they were characters. I liked these breaks and how Tilman Borck got some references from classic films to build the narrative, it was a humble and good act. Moreover, the main plot is predictable but the subplots are not so the film keeps interesting as we don't really know what's going to happen. The acting is good overall and I highlight Gino Wilson (Felix) and Clayton Nemrow (Ron). They are great here and their rivalry on screen is on point. About the technical aspects, they are good. I praise Tilman Borck for acting, writing and directing The Midas Touch (2020). I can only imagine how difficult it is to do so many things and he did a good job, I didn't like it that much but it's a watchable film.
I don't know what to make.of rhis movie, I found myself wondering how it could escape the editing room in its current form. It feels unpolished and much too long. It is like watching somerhing that high-school students would put together for fun, where they don't care if the joke is only funny for them. I think you would be better off spending time on something else.
This movie was done very poorly. It had no value, not even as a fun to watch terrible movie. I feel like they had a casting call at an international convention of bad actors. The antagonists reminded me of mean Mr. Mustard from the Sergeant Pepper movie.
NOW for the big issue. The ratings don't make sense. Click on the rating to see the breakdown. It's around 3.8 or so, yet when it is averaged, they display 6.4. So something is definitely wrong with the algorithm of showing the rating of this terrible film.
WHAT was good about it? It is so hard to find something good but if I had to say something, the Benny Hill type of chasing in the park was kind of funny but only because it reminded me of Benny Hill.
