In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery

Or is it who sunk it (well her I reckon in this particular case)? No pun intended as always - this true crime show is another example of why I should stop watching them - but I am a bit in a loop here. Too weak to skip the suggestion my streaming platform is giving me. So I just let it happen - just getting over it - with it.

Something that the main individual would have loved to have happen to him - the getting over part. Well before it actually did - results not withstanding as they say. Well edited, good interviews too (and some re-enactments) ... but you really have to dig that kind of stuff. I reckon there are enough people interested ... or too lazy to stop the inevitable (no "murder" pun intended)

This guy sinks himself in the first two minutes, in two simple sentences. " How can you put a murder charge on someone going through grievous trauma" and "the biggest miscarriage of justice.. in the world". He's making himself the subject, the important figure in the story. HE suffered trauma, HE suffered police investigation, it's all about him. Nevermind his dead wife, HE is the victim. He shows no sympathy, heartbreak, sadness, woe, nothing. He's just angry that he hasn't been left alone to spend the money he earned in her death.

Well put together with lots of interviews, photos and videos but waaaay too long. Could have been edited down to a 90 minute TV slot.

The biggest problem with this documentary is the same problem many other modern docs face. It's too drawn out! You don't need three episodes to tell this sad story.

Another big problem with this doc is the mystery angle. We have one witness and a lack of evidence to discuss. Everyone is forced to draw conclusions based on the statements of the accused and vibes. That doesn't make for the most compelling case, and at some point you lose interest because what is there to debate? Even the near-perfect series Forensic Files would have trouble turning this into a half-hour episode.

RIP to the victim. She deserved better in life than what happened to her.
