The CG-animated feature film based on the hit Australian animated children’s series is set for a global theatrical release on Aug. 6, 2027. After hitting theaters, the “Bluey” film will be available to stream on Disney+ and on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia.

The “Bluey” movie is written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm and is a Ludo Studio production. But, after directing the modern classic Mad Max: Fury Road, director George Miller made an equally ambitious film at a third of the cost. The Final Cut, released in 2004, is one of Robin Williams‘s more serious but forgettable works. The movie, rated at 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, has long annoyed critics and audiences alike for its uneven pacing and middling plot. Even though the film presents an intriguing premise at first, The Final Cut quickly slows down to a tedious roll that refuses to get out of second gear.

Despite all its faults, however, The Final Cut has some hold over the audience, making it a sleeper cult classic in certain movie circles. James Gunn’s Superman has become a major turning point for DC Studios, and I’d like the momentum to keep going, even after its release. David Corenswet emerged as our new Man of Steel, effortlessly, despite the hate. And this rebooted universe, which is currently in its Phase 1, ‘Gods and Monsters’ arc, signals a strong start ahead.

The positive early buzz and huge box office numbers have all materialized due to Gunn’s creative vision. Beginning May 1, Snyder fans can stream Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole on Max. Based on the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series by Kathryn Lasky, the 2010 animated fantasy adventure film focuses on barn owl Soren, who is kidnapped and taken to St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls led by Metal Beak and Nyra, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He befriends a fellow owl named Gylfie, and together they escape the facility to find the Island of Ga'Hoole, teaming with newfound friends to fight against Metal Beak and Nyra's evil army.

Focus Features has set Song Sung Blue for a wide release on December 25, 2025. DreamWorks' 2012 animated fantasy film Rise of the Guardians has emerged as a global Netflix hit 13 years after its theatrical release, currently ranking third on Netflix's Global Top 10 movies with 5.4 million views and 9 million hours viewed across 41 countries.

Rise of the Guaradians centers on the titular group recruiting Jack Frost to combat Pitch Black, a villain intent on destroying children's dreams – a concept that apparently resonates more with audiences at home than in theaters. There is no way to binge-watch everything that is leaving. That is true even if you line up several TVs and your computer(s) next to each other and play different things at once. Don't do that because that would be weird (or would it?).

The Penguin Lessons operates like it's juggling on a tightrope walk; that's how much of a balancing act the film is. 41 movies alone will be leaving Netflix at the beginning of next month. If you love such franchises as Rush Hour, you might want to binge-watch the first three films over the next week. Those will be leaving your favorite streamer on the first day of April.

The first three Karate Kid movies will be moving on as well. This is bad timing, as there will be a "new" Karate Kid flick coming to theaters in May. That one will star Ralph Macchio (of course) and Jackie Chan and is titled Karate Kids: Legends. The best scenario would be to see the previous films on Netflix before there is a theatrical release of a new addition to the series.

Village Roadshow has officially filed for bankruptcy. Village Roadshow Entertainment Group is a production company whose film division, Village Roadshow Pictures, was founded in 1989. The Australian media company Village Roadshow also holds a 3% stake in the company. The American producer's first ever film was The Delinquents, a 1989 release that was distributed by Warner Bros. Since then, the company has gone on to produce major films including The Matrix, Miss Congeniality, Zoolander, Ocean's Eleven, Happy Feet, Joker, and more recently, Wonka.

Per Variety, Village Roadshow has now filed for bankruptcy. The company officially filed for Company 11 in Delaware on Monday, March 17. Court documents cite $223.8 million in asset-backed secured notes and $163.1 million in senior secured debt. Film producer and financier Village Roadshow Entertainment Group has filed for bankruptcy in a Delaware court, according to a Bloomberg report.

The US and Australia-based firm has backed over 100 films since its launch in 1997, including Joker, Sully, Mad Max: Fury Road, the Sherlock Holmes franchise, Happy Feet and the Matrix trilogy.

The company, which is based in both the US and Australia, had struggled to bounce back from the pandemic slump, which has hit box-office receipts, and the 2023 Hollywood writers’ strike, which delayed film productions.

More recently, its financial problems largely stemmed from an ongoing dispute with longstanding partner Warner Bros. Discovery.

Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood are two of Hollywood's most dynamic and celebrated performers, with the talented duo joining forces in 1994 to headline the poignant coming-of-age drama The War, a thought-provoking film that focuses on a Vietnam War veteran who returns to his home and family in Mississippi and struggles to overcome his crippling Ptsd and war trauma. It was criminal that the Best Animated Film category didn’t exist at the Oscars before 2001. Iconic films like The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan missed out on the golden statuette. While Beauty and the Beast became the first animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture, the absence of a dedicated Animated Feature category left a void in recognizing the artistry of animated films at the Oscars.

A total of 70 brand-new movies, games, and series debuted over the past week, with even more scheduled to arrive over the weekend. For those who prefer a gripping thriller, Netflix will drop Apple Cider Vinegar, a new series premiering on February 6 that’s worth keeping an eye on.

In other big news, the highly popular series Cobra Kai will release its final batch of five episodes this month, marking the end of the TV series. While it’s bittersweet for fans, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Daniel Larusso, as he’s set to appear in an upcoming Karate Kid movie hitting theaters later this year.

Beyond these highlights, Netflix is also adding plenty of films and shows to its catalog.

Bluey fans around the world are on pins and needles for the new full-length feature film adaptation in 2027, but things are about to change. Although Bluey creator Joe Brumm is devoting all of his time and energy to make the movie great, one development has some fans biting their nails.

Along with the official announcement, it was revealed that Bluey would be getting a CG makeover for the occasion. That's not an uncommon practice for TV show characters making the transition to film, but fans might not need to be so uptight because a redesign has happened before.

Elijah Wood starred in Shane Acker's animated feature 9 in 2009, which was largely made possible by Tim Burton. Following Wood's lead performance as Frodo Baggins in the groundbreaking The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the renowned actor appeared in several films such as Sin City, Paris, Je T'aime, and Happy Feet. Wood went on to star in the celebrated FX comedy series Wilfred and recently appeared in the second season of the Emmy-nominated series Yellowjackets.

Burton has created several notable animated movies over his career. He was a screenwriter on animated classics such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach and directed Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie. Burton recently directed the massively popular Netflix series Wednesday, which returns for its second season in 2025, and the highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, which is now streaming on HBO/Max. If it weren't for Burton's efforts with 9, the film may have never been made.

This week saw the 15th anniversary of the death of Brittany Murphy, and one of her co-stars took the occasion to remember her fondly.

Murphy died on December 20, 2009, and Katie O’Grady, who worked alongside her on her final film Something Wicked, described Murphy as being like “a little bird you wanted to be around and you wanted to help.”

O’Grady told People magazine that Murphy’s cast and crew were all concerned and mindful of Murphy’s physical and mental condition, and tried to be “soft” with her while on set. O’Grady recalled the late actress looking “frail” and noticeably “going through a hard time” while filming the movie.

And O’Grady told the magazine of Murphy: “She made moments and she created moments with everybody that she met to the best of her ability that she could with the energy that she had.”

BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company today announced the first-ever Bluey movie, which will be based on the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning animated series.

The new deal sees Disney acquiring the global theatrical rights for the film, which will land in theaters in 2027 under the Disney banner. Following the global theatrical release, the Bluey movie will stream on Disney+.

Written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, the film is a Ludo Studio production in collaboration with BBC Studios. Delivering the same charm and humor that made the television series a global phenomenon, the movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her mum, dad and her little sister, Bingo.
