How ‘Severance’ Dp Jessica Lee Gagné Turned the Series’ Most Ambitious Episode Into Her Directorial Debut
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Severance season two.]

Severance cinematographer-turned-director Jessica Lee Gagné was ready to bid adieu to the hit Apple TV+ series prior to its second season.

Of course, she cherished her time on 2022’s newest — and one of only a few remaining — water-cooler shows, especially her yearslong collaboration with in-house director/EP Ben Stiller. (As director and Dp, the pair previously collaborated together on Escape at Dannemora.) The Quebec native had shot Lumon Industries’ Severed Floor and its signature white hallways in so many different ways that she was simply ready to create a new visual vocabulary somewhere else. She even rejected an offer to make her directorial debut during season two, but then everything changed as soon as she read a summary of the series’ most ambitious episode, “Chikhai Bardo.”

“[Directing] is often proposed to cinematographers so they come back for another season. So I said no at first, but then I...

A Major Jack Black And Ben Stiller Flop Opened On The Same Day As Mean Girls
Image
What do you get when you pair two beloved comedic actors with the Academy Award-winning director of "Rain Man"? One of the worst flops of the early-2000s, apparently. Dark comedy "Envy" debuted in 2004 and proved to be a critical and commercial disaster, despite an all-star cast and an ostensibly capable filmmaker at the helm (though we are also talking about the director who oversaw muted mob drama "The Alto Knights").

Directed by Barry Levinson, "Envy" starred Ben Stiller and Jack Black as best friends Tim Dingman and Nick Vanderpark. After Nick invents a spray that he claims can vaporize dog poop, Tim declines to invest and support his pal, but he soon regrets his decision when Nick becomes incredibly rich of the back of his harebrained scheme. The tension between the two reaches a fever pitch, which is when none other than Christopher Walken shows up in the role of J-Man,...

Severance season 3 writing is in progress (and so are two 'nascent' spinoff ideas)
Image
When we last left our core four Mdr baddies in Severance, things weren't looking great. Cobel had teamed up with Devon and Mark to try and save Gemma after realizing the extent to which the Eagans took advantage of her.

Mark had just rescued Gemma from the experimental floor at Lumon, only for his innie to leave her at the last minute and run back into the bowels of the severed floor with Helly. Irving had just been put on a train out of town by Burt, which presumably saved his life. Dylan was left to hold off Milchick after that whole marching band debacle... I don't know that either of them will be coming back on Monday.

Ben Stiller and Adam Scott both promise that the new season's scripts are well underway, but are unwilling to divulge even the smallest detail regarding which characters will be returning. They refused...

15 Actors Who Almost Starred In The Star Wars Franchise
Image
With a growing number of popular television series, an enduring line of blockbuster movies, and countless multimedia merchandising, "Star Wars" is one of the biggest franchises in the world. And with so many iconic performances throughout the series' extensive history, it's hard to imagine anyone else playing many of these beloved characters. However, some of the most prominent roles across the franchise nearly saw casting opportunities and changes that would've shocked even the most hardcore "Star Wars" fans. Simply put, deeply associated actors like Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford weren't always a lock for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, respectively.

This distinction wasn't limited to the original "Star Wars" trilogy but also the prequels, the sequel trilogy, and the various shows and spinoff movies the franchise has seen in recent years. These often involve the biggest parts in a given project, before the casting that we all know and love took place.

Christopher Walken Lied to Seann William Scott Just for a Birthday Cake

Christopher Walken may look intimidating on the set of Dune, but he gets really silly sometimes that he loves faking his own birthday on movie sets so the crew would buy him a cake. Seann William Scott revealed this during an interview and spilled all the details about the veteran star’s funny antics.

Walken is one of the most recognizable Hollywood stars today. He has a career spanning six decades and a lengthy portfolio with his works on film, television, and stage. He is often the go-to actor for menacing characters, but not a lot of people know that he’s got a goofy side.

A Banned Stephen King Book Was Adapted Into A Christopher Walken Classic In The '80s
Image
If we take a quick look at the books banned/challenged in schools in Florida, the name of a beloved, bestselling author stands out. Per the Florida-Times Union, 68 (!) Stephen King books were removed from Florida school libraries in 2024 alone, including the ones written under the now-discarded pseudonym Richard Bachman. Some books have been hit with a limited ban since then, meaning that they can be requested on a case-by-case approval basis (with many of these requests still pending).

The reasoning behind such baffling censorship remains unclear, as everything from "Pet Sematary" to "The Shining" can be found on this banned/restricted list. Moreover, not every story on this list veers into horror territory or deals with sensitive subject matters ill-suited for students in certain grades. This isn't a recent issue by any means, as these Florida bans on King's oeuvre can be traced back to as far as 1992.

A View To A Kill – what really makes a good James Bond movie?
Image
Roger Moore’s final 007 movie, 1985’s A View To A Kill, is a bit of a Marmite outing even for James Bond fans – but is the film in a class of its own?.

This feature contains moderate spoilers for A View To A Kill.

“Ha ha, you amuse me, Mr Bond.”

“It’s not mutual.”

In a series as long and variable in quality as the James Bond franchise, we all have our biases as fans. For many, the highly subjective distinction between “good film” and “good Bond film” might go in either direction towards the modern Daniel Craig films or the earliest Sean Connery adventures. And for some of us, it may just be that marathoning Roger Moore’s Bond films in order does A View To A Kill absolutely no favours in either category.

As expected at this stage, the film has very little in common with Ian Fleming’s 1960 short story,...

Legend Brings ‘Deathwatch’ and ‘The Deer Hunter’ to Freeview
Image
Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter will headline Legend’s June 2025 slate, as the classic war film makes its debut on the free-to-air genre channel. Scheduled for its first airing on Saturday 28 June, the five-time Academy Award winner will anchor a month of premieres that spans decades and genres, from prestige Hollywood dramas to high-concept science fiction and British cult films.

Originally released in 1978, The Deer Hunter stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, and is widely regarded as one of the most significant American films of the 20th century. Set before, during and after the Vietnam War, the film traces the psychological and emotional impact of conflict on a group of steelworkers from Pennsylvania. Cimino’s ambitious and often divisive work won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars and remains a key title in any examination of American post-war cinema.

You Can Now Watch Quentin Tarantino’s 4th Highest-Grossing and Oscar-Winning Movie on Hulu
Image
Hollywood’s entertainment industry has seen a lot of filmmakers debut over the years, but perhaps none as iconic as Quentin Tarantino. A force to be reckoned with, the way he has shaped the trajectory of his career is truly commendable, with his flicks standing out for their nonlinear narratives, snappy dialogue, and a blend of violence and pop culture references.

This includes the one film that rode such unprecedented heights of success that it had Tarantino become a household name overnight: Pulp Fiction. Not only did that movie grant him unparalleled fame, but it also won him some of the biggest accolades of all time. And if you have been missing it too much, now it has also been made available to watch on Hulu!

This Star-Studded Quentin Tarantino Film Is Finally On Hulu
Image
Few films can compare to the sheer star power Quentin Tarantino assembled for Pulp Fiction. In addition to a dynamite script and deft direction, the flick serves up a dazzling mixture of up-and-coming talent and household names. The film helped to revitalize John Travolta’s career and aided in launching Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman to superstardom. One thing is for sure, Quentin Tarantino has an eye for talent and an uncompromising creative vision.

Catch Pulp Fiction on Hulu now!

If you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction in a while and count yourself ready for a return visit to the gritty crime anthology, you’re in luck. Hulu added the film to their lineup on earlier this year.

Pulp Fiction is Tarantino’s sophomore feature film. Many consider it his magnum opus. However, with a filmography like his, it’s tough for me to name just one picture as his best.

The Last of Us Gets Reimagined as 80s Series Starring Mel Gibson as Joel in VHS-Style Trailer
Image
Based on the hit video game of the same name, HBO's The Last of Us has found great success with its lead stars played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. If the show were to have been made in the 1980s, it could have instead featured Mel Gibson and Jennifer Connelly, and that casting has been imagined by a concept trailer made by a fan.

Shared on YouTube by Multiverse of Movies, the "Retro VHS Trailer" was created with AI-generated voices and imagery. It's presented with the quality of a VHS tape in the style of a TV show commercial in the 80s with some of the era's most notable stars playing the characters of The Last of Us. Of course, it's not something that would've been possible in reality, as the original video game was conceived decades later, but it offers an interesting, "What if?" The video can be watched below.

Remembering the Late Joe Don Baker, Dead at 89, Arguably the First American Bond Villain
Image
Joe Don Baker, beloved character actor who populated classic films from “Walking Tall” to “Cape Fear” with his unique spin on the brawny Texan persona, is dead at 89, his family announced. He is survived by a circle of friends and extended relations in his hometown of Groesbeck, Texas.

Standing six-foot, two inches and built like a brick wall, he was a natural athlete, playing basketball and football in high school, and attending North Texas State College on an athletic scholarship. Graduating in 1958, and after spending two years in the army, he moved to New York City to study at the Actors Studio, landing his debut in Manhattan theater in “Marathon ’33” in 1963. Small parts in Westerns on TV followed: “The Big Valley,” “Bonanza,” “Gunsmoke,” and, notably, the pilot episode of “Lancer,” where he played the villain — a Tarantino-ized version of which was played by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton in...

Who Is Emperor Shaddam IV In Dune?
Image
At the beginning of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" -- set in the distant, distant future -- Duke Leto Atreides, the ruler of the ocean planet of Caladan, is assigned the task of overseeing the distant desert world of Arrakis by the Padishah Emperor, Shaddam IV. Arrakis is particularly valuable to the galaxy, as it is the only known source of the spice Melange, a consciousness-expanding psychedelic substance that grants humans the skills they need to travel through deep space. Arrakis had previously been overseen by House Harkonnen, a wicked and greedy clan of hedonists, and House Atreides seemingly promised a more benevolent rule and gentle hand when overseeing spice production. The Atreides and the Harkonnens have long been bitter rivals.

Of course, Shaddam IV has a scheme of his own, and only assigned House Atreides to Arrakis for reasons of treachery. It seems that Duke Leto Atreides was becoming...

Last Year at Karlovy Vary: A Remembrance of Czech Actor and Festival Chief Jiri Bartoska
Image
I first met actors Jiri Bartoska – who died Thursday at the age of 78 – and Leonardo DiCaprio at the same time, at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival 31 summers ago.

The encounter was memorable for all three of us, I suspect. Leo was a teenager, just beginning his march to fame and glory, and Karlovy Vary was his first film festival, also attended by his German mother Irmelin and his German grandparents. He climbed into his grandparents laps and I have that snap eternally imprinted in my memory banks of my favorite movie business moments.

Leonardo DiCaprio with his grandparents in Karlovy Vary

That fortnight in the Bohemian sun led to a marriage and a daughter for me, but it also led to a fortuitous journalistic adventure that I like to think benefited Variety’s readers as well.

I had just begun my 32 seasons as an editor at the magazine. Jiri had...

James Foley, best known for directing the 1992 black comedy drama Glengarry Glen Ross and several episodes of the Netflix hit House of Cards, has died. A rep told The Hollywood Reporter that the director, producer, and writer died earlier this week of brain cancer. He was 71. Foley directed the two sequels of Fifty Shades of Grey: Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018). In addition, he worked with some of the biggest stars, including Sean Penn, Halle Berry, Madonna, and Al Pacino, making his signature style noir-esque stories.

The film follows an outcast teenager and football player, Johnny Rourke (Quinn), who falls for popular cheerleader Tracey Prescott (Hannah). James Foley, ‘Glengarry Glen Ross,’ ‘House of Cards’ Director, Dies at 71
Image
James Foley, director of films including “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “At Close Range” and “Fear,” died at his home in Los Angeles earlier this week.

He died after a year-long struggle with brain cancer, according to a rep.

Foley worked with stars including Sean Penn, Madonna, Al Pacino and Halle Berry, and specialized in atmosphere-soaked, noir-adjacent stories.

His first feature was 1984’s musical romance drama “Reckless,” starring Daryl Hannah and Aidan Quinn. Foley followed that with “At Close Range,” starring Penn and Christopher Walken in a neo-noir that included the Madonna song “Live to Tell.” Madonna was married to Penn at the time, and Foley went on to work with Madonna several times, directing music videos and her feature “Who’s That Girl.” The screwball comedy bombed, and Foley told FilmInk, “It was a major life experience. That first failure is so shocking.”

“Glengarry Glen Ross” was one of his most high-profile films,...

James Foley, Director of ‘Glengarry Glen Ross,’ ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Fifty Shades,’ Dies at 71

James Foley, the Brooklyn-born filmmaker who collaborated with A-list stars like Al Pacino, Sean Penn, Madonna and Mark Wahlberg across a 30-plus-year career in film, TV and music videos, has died. He was 71.

The Only Main Actors Still Alive From Little House On The Prairie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

NBC's classic Western show "Little House on the Prairie" was filmed from 1974 to 1983. During this time, the story of the Ingalls family and their family-friendly toil and trouble won four Emmys and numerous other awards -- as well as the hearts of the viewers. Thanks to its lengthy tenure, "Little House on the Prairie" featured an impressive cast of characters for a show that takes place in a small frontier settlement. Famous names like "Arrested Development" and "Ozark" star Jason Bateman (whose first screen acting role was the adopted late-game Ingalls kid, James) visited the titular Plum Creek farm and its neighboring small town of Walnut Grove during the show's lifetime. However, the series' main cast remained aboard for so much of its run that its audience came to know their characters the best.

With its many reruns and overall cultural impact,...

One Aspect in Which ‘Dune’ 1984 Brutally Defeats Denis Villeneuve’s Films Will Be ‘Dune: Messiah’s’ Greatest Challenge
Image
Denis Villeneuve adapted Frank Herbert’s Dune to near-perfection with his incredible casting, attention to detail, and decision to split the original novel into two films. Despite both films going over five and a half hours combined, Villeneuve’s treatment of the Spacing Guild was very passive and almost absent.

The Spacing Guild in Herbert’s novels is almost a shadow government along the lines of the Bene Gesserit organization. The Guild is an important part of the feudal system of government that the Dune universe operates on, which David Lynch’s 1984 version established pretty well.

The 5 Best Florence Pugh Movies, Ranked
Image
In recent years, Florence Pugh has become one of the most celebrated and recognizable actresses of her generation. Since giving her breakout performance in the 2016 drama “Lady Macbeth,” Pugh has starred in an impressively varied array of movies, dipped her toes into two popular franchises and even nabbed a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for herself in 2020. Now, Pugh is returning to movie screens around the world in “Thunderbolts*,” the Marvel crossover film that sees her emerge as the unlikely leader of a team of misfits and comic book anti-heroes.

In honor of her return as Yelena Belova in “Thunderbolts*,” here are Pugh’s five best movies, ranked.

The Robert De Niro War Movie That Shocked Studio Executives
Image
Any student of cinema is also, by extension, a student of history. In other words, it's always informative to not just know what a film has to say, but at what point it was saying it. To anyone who's observed both American history and American cinema, the way that the Vietnam War was discussed and portrayed during the years just before, during, and after the conflict is fascinating. Most of us Millennials and younger have grown up during an era of people crying "too soon!" when it comes to openly political commentary in media, and indeed, in some cases it feels like films addressing national issues have taken their sweet time to emerge. For instance, despite being five years into the Covid-19 pandemic, and excluding the handful of films which have used the pandemic as a backdrop, it still feels like a largely unaddressed aspect of our modern life.

However,...

Most people who have read a book or two are well aware that Stephen King is the reigning ruler of the horror genre and a capable contender in several other areas of literature. Still, even his most ardent fans are likely quick to admit that King's endings have a reputation for disappointment. His longer works, in particular, tend to spend so much effort on world-building and intricate plot-weaving that the creative juice seems to run out when it's time to stick the landing.

As a result, King's stories can remind the reader of that meme where a hyperrealistic drawing of a horse gets progressively worse until the tail end is just a doodle. Consider, say, "Under the Dome" (2009), one of the author's patented "small town in a predicament" stories ... only, one that ends with the revelation that the whole nail-biting plot was caused by some alien kids goofing off.

Still,...

5 Best Original Batman: The Animated Series Villains Ranked
Image
"Batman: The Animated Series" is beloved for how accurately it adapted the "Batman" comics. Many consider the series to be the definitive depiction of Gotham City. Yet "Batman" also colored in the margins, where the creators left their own thumbprints.

The series didn't only adapt existing Batman comics and characters. The "Batman" team also introduced a handful of original characters, spicing up the stories they could tell. Some of these original characters were such successes that the comics started adapting them from the show.

Take Gotham police officer Renee Montoya, one of Commissioner Gordon's (Bob Hastings) inner circle. Or Nora Fries, terminally ill wife of the villainous Mr. Freeze. Nora's admittedly more of a plot device, but her presence casts a cloud over Freeze and is the foundation of his brilliant recharacterization.

Some of the other original characters were more sinister. The many illustrious villains of "Batman: The Animated Series...

Robert De Niro Almost Died On Set: The Deer Hunter’s Shocking Behind-The-Scenes Survival Story
Image
Did Robert De Niro almost die on The Deer Hunter sets? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

The highly-controversial Deer Hunter was released more than four decades ago and the movie has since etched its legacy as one of the landmark movies ever made on The Vietnam War. The 1978 classic also secured five Oscars and left a profound impact on how Americans viewed the struggles of war veterans returning home.

But behind the scenes, the experience for the cast was nothing short of life-threatening. John Savage, now 75, who portrayed Steven in the movie, had once opened up about the perilous conditions they faced while filming, revealing how close he, Christopher Walken, and Robert De Niro came to losing their lives during production.

Living on the Edge

John reflected on the extreme risks that were taken to ensure the film’s anti-war message was powerfully conveyed to audiences. In an interview with the UK’s Mirror,...

Before Scooby-Doo, Matthew Lillard & Freddie Prinze Jr. Starred In A Forgotten Sci-Fi War Movie
Image
A generation of kids grew up watching Raja Gosnell's 2002 live-action comedy flick "Scooby-Doo," an adaptation of Hanna-Barbera's long-running Scooby-Doo cartoon shows from the 1970s. In the film, Freddy, originally voiced by Frank Welker, was played by Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Shaggy, originally voiced by Casey Kasem, was played by Matthew Lillard. Prinze was squarely in the public eye after starring in hit films like "She's All That" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," while Lillard was famous for his turns in "Hackers," "Scream," and "Slc Punk!" Lillard, incidentally, was also in "She's All That." Both actors were very much their generation's "It" boys, and the decade proved to be very lucrative for them both.

Well, "Wing Commander" notwithstanding.

"Wing Commander" is not well-remembered by too many people. It was based on a series of 1990s "Wing Commander" video games created by Chris Roberts, who also directed the film.

4K Uhd Blu-ray Review: Julian Schnabel’s ‘Basquiat’ on the Criterion Collection
Image
Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat is often at war with itself. At times, it effortlessly captures Jean-Michel Basquiat (Jeffrey Wright) and the Manhattan art world in which he flourished with bracing authenticity, only for it to become weighed down by biopic clichés that flatten out its characterizations. For every patient sequence that sits back and allows the audience to observe Basquiat at work, carefully detailing his process, there are two more that feel like they were ripped straight from the artist biopic playbook.

As great a song as Modern Lovers’s “Girlfriend” is, playing it over the scene in which Basquiat meets soon-to-be girlfriend Gina (Claire Forlani)—a composite of Basquiat’s real-life girlfriends, including Suzanne Mallouk and Madonna—is impossibly on the nose. And that scene is followed up by another in which Basquiat and his best friend, Benny (Benicio del Toro), see a character on TV utter what would...

‘Severance’ Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Apple TV+’s science fiction psychological thriller Severance, which stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, and others, is rated as one of the most-watched and critically acclaimed shows. Fans had to wait almost two years for the second season of the show, but the wait was worth it. With just two seasons and an extraordinary storyline, direction, and performances, Severance has managed to garner a ravenous fan base.

The idea of individuals not carrying the burden of their work to the outside world and not thinking about the outside world while working is not only intriguing but also raises questions about labor, identity, and how corporate authorities tend to have control over their employees. After a pathbreaking second season, Severance is going to be back for a third season, and here’s everything we know about the show.

Vince Vaughn Visits White House, Potus Celebrates With Parody ‘Wedding Crashers’ Poster
Image
The White House’s social media activity shows no sign of abating. This time around, the official Potus Instagram celebrated a visit by actor Vince Vaughn, spoofing the poster from 2005’s Wedding Crashers for the occasion.

On Friday, the Bad Monkey star and executive producer shared a joint post with President Donald Trump’s official social media account, commemorating his stop at the Oval Office. The photo parodies the poster for the classic romantic/buddy comedy film with Owen Wilson and Christopher Walken, featuring one titled “White House Crashers” with Vaughn and Trump as the performers getting top billing.

No additional details about the meeting were shared by either Vaughn or the GOP leader. Per The Hill, the White House didn’t formally list Vaughn on Trump’s schedule for reporters.

For his part, Vaughn has been a vocal libertarian, supporting Republican candidates in 2008 and 2012, and backing Rand Paul in...

“I Hope We See More of Her”: Florence Pugh Confirms Her Return in ‘Dune: Messiah’ With a New Update
Image
Florence Pugh has addressed her future in the Dune franchise after making her debut last year in Dune: Part Two. Pugh stars as Princess Irulan in the box office-breaking sci-fi sequel, the daughter of the Emperor (Christopher Walken) who ultimately cedes power at the end of the movie to Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). Pugh’s Princess Irulan agrees to be Paul’s willing bride so long as he spares her father’s life, and he agrees to the arrangement in front of Chani (Zendaya), his true love, who will now be forced into a life as his concubine. During a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Pugh confirmed her return in Dune: Messiah, and also shared what she hopes to see from Princess Irulan in the third installment of the franchise:

“I hope we see more of her! I want more cool outfits!”

Pugh confirmed in the same interview that...

'Dune 3': Florence Pugh Confirms Princess Irulan Return for 'Messiah'
Image
Florence Pugh has confirmed that she is returning as Princess Irulan Corrino for Dune: Part Three, aka Dune Messiah, which is set to begin filming this summer. Her character becomes a central figure in the second book of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi series, suggesting a more prominent part and extended screen time for her in the forthcoming third movie from director Denis Villeneuve. "I hope we see more of her," Pugh told Harper's Bazaar, keeping coy about the possibility of her expanded role, adding, "I want more cool outfits!"

Princess Irulan is the eldest daughter of the duplicitous 81st Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, portrayed by Christopher Walken in Dune: Part Two, and Anirul, a Bene Gesserit of Hidden Rank, though this is only briefly visited on screen. Pugh's character evolves from a passive observer to an active participant in the unfolding drama when she agrees to marry Paul Atreides...

Christopher Walken Played a Bond Villain, But I’m Glad He Was Never Chosen for Hollywood’s Scariest Serial Killer
Image
I was happy to see Christopher Walken back in Hollywood last year after his four-year-long hiatus from films. He is one of those actors who could easily slip into a character and make it his own. The villainous turn in Dune: Part Two was a walk in the park for Walken, who had played far more devious villains in his career.

To jog your memory, Walken played one of my favorite Bond villains. In Roger Moore’s final outing as Agent 007 in A View to a Kill, Walken played Max Zorin, the Nazi tech businessman who wants to monopolize the microchip market. He commits a lot of devious acts throughout the film, making everyone hate him to the core.

However, Walken could’ve played the scariest villain in the history of cinema. He was considered for the role of Norman Bates,...

The 10 Best Moments When a Movie Name-Drops Its Own Title
Image
There is, for devotees of a specific type of movie arcana, a glorious moment in Jason Statham’s new movie, “A Working Man.” About midway through, his character, searching for a trafficked young woman, poses as a drug dealer looking to score a connection with a local kingpin holding court in the backroom of a biker bar. The kingpin suspects he’s a cop, but after Jason handily dispatches his goons, the kingpin, regarding his fists, says, “Look at those bricks. You ain’t a cop, you’re a working man.”

The title drop, when a line of dialogue references the film’s title, is a delicate art with a distinct cult following. When they’re good, they’re very good. When they’re bad, they’re terrific.

Director John Waters is a title drop enthusiast. He rattled off some favorites in a phone call with IndieWire: “Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia,...

The Women’s Guild Cedars-Sinai’s annual spring luncheon is shaping up to be a family affair.

The guild has zeroed in on a pair of siblings to honor by tapping veteran agent Toni Howard of CAA and her sister, author and philanthropist Wendy Howard Goldberg, to receive Trailblazer Awards during a gala held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on May 1. Entertainment Tonight host Nischelle Turner is confirmed to emcee the festivities, which will also feature a fireside chat with the Howards moderated by their longtime close friend Judge Judy Sheindlin.

Funds raised at the event will benefit the Women’s Guild neurology project and the Women’s Guild distinguished chair in pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s. Also at the event, fashion designer Elyse Walker will host a pop-up boutique featuring items from her brand, elysewalker, with 10 percent of the proceeds benefitting the guild. Everything we know about Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune 3,’ aka ‘Dune Messiah’
Image
Last year, director Denis Villeneuve successfully demonstrated that Frank Herbert’s Dune could become a blockbuster hit. His first Dune, released during the pandemic and streamed on Max, still managed to take in a formidable $410.7 million worldwide. Dune: Part Two did even better in 2024 with $714.7 million worldwide. The films also proved hugely popular with critics and awards voters: the first film scored an 83 on Rotten Tomatoes and won six Oscars from 10 nominations; the follow-up had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92 percent and earned two Oscars in five nominations.

Although Villeneuve initially cast doubt on starting Dune 3 anytime soon, the director subsequently changed his mind and is working on the script. The story will be based upon Dune Messiah, the second Dune novel by Herbert. It will also be the first time that the 1969 story has been adapted for the big screen.

Now that pre-production on Dune Messiah has begun, it...

Robert Pattinson could join the cast of Dune: Part Three as the villain
Image
The casts of the Dune movies are insane. Let me just list off some of the people who have appeared so far: Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken...what other prominent actors are left to cast?

Director Denis Villeneuve found one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Pattinson is circling the role of the villain of the piece, although a formal offer hasn't been made yet. Since his days on Twilight, Pattinson has become a prestigious actor, appearing in arthouse favorites like The Lighthouse as well as mainstream hits like The Batman. He would fit right in alongside the other high-powered cast members.

Villenueve's first two Dune movies adapted Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel Dune, which came out in 1965. The third movie would adapt the sequel book Dune Messiah, which came out in 1969. That one is shorter,...

Robert Pattinson Eyed for ‘Dune 3’ Role
Image
Denis Villeneuve has his sights set on another A-lister to join the starry ensemble cast of “Dune: Messiah”: Robert Pattinson.

As Villeneuve puts the finishing touches on the script for the next “Dune” installment ahead of a summer shoot, sources tell Variety that there’s interest in having Pattinson join the project, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. However, no formal offer has been presented, and it is unknown who he would play. Legendary had no comment.

Pattinson recently co-starred with Zendaya in the A24 film “The Drama,” and is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey.” He’s also the star of Warner Bros.’s “The Batman,” with a sequel set to open in theaters in 2027. Pattinson is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Curtis Brown Group and attorney Robert Offer.

Last year, Legendary confirmed that development on “Dune 3” was underway following the blockbuster success of “Dune: Part 2.

Severance Season 3 Update: Showrunner Would 'Love to Finish the Show Before I'm 70'
Image
Severancefans were left with a nearly three-year gap between the April 8, 2022, Season 1 finale and the premiere of the Apple TV+ show’s second season this January. With the Season 2 finale having premiered on March 21, and the show officially renewed for a third season, Severance creator and showrunner Dan Erickson hopes it won’t take as long to create the third installment of the dystopian sci-fi thriller.

The critically acclaimed Severance follows the lives of workers at a mysterious company called Lumon, whose “innies” and “outies” have different personalities and identities, keeping their work lives and personal lives separated.

While there is no release date for the third season, given that the show was just renewed, Erickson told Entertainment Weekly he hopes Season 3 comes sooner than the three years it took for the second season. “I would love to finish the show before I’m 70,” Erickson said. For reference, Erickson is 41 years old.

Christopher Walken tries to channel Bugs Bunny in most performances
Image
What’s…up, Doc? Christopher Walken has starred opposite everybody from Robert De Niro to Sean Connery to Christopher Lee, but there’s one actor he admires above all: Bugs Bunny. And for those who might not consider Bugs Bunny an actor, he has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Walken doesn’t, so how do you explain that?

Walken recently appeared on Ben Stiller’s The Severance Podcast to chat the show and his inspirations. But it was actually off-mic that he told Stiller about his love of the Looney Tunes mascot. “[Walken] said that Bugs Bunny is one of his favorite actors ever. And he was saying this kind of with a twinkle in his eye, but not really. And he said, ‘A lot of times I’ve played roles as if I was Bugs Bunny, but nobody knew.’ Now, which character, which movie, we don’t know.
