The 2025 Met Gala was truly one for the books. Not only did it break the record for the most money raised through ticket sales, at a whopping $31 million, but the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” set the bar high for fashion and culture.

This year’s theme, paired with the dress code “Tailored For You,” celebrates Black Dandyism, a cultural movement and fashion practice in which black people have used fashion and clothing to express themselves, challenge societal norms, and defy social constraints.

A-list guests were encouraged to bring their interpretation of the movement, showcasing their individuality. While some sported traditional tailoring, others put a modern spin on things, showing off their unique flair.

Lorde’s custom Thom Browne ensemble at the Met Ball may contain hints about her forthcoming LP, Virgin. Speaking to Emma Chamberlain on the red carpet for Vogue, the singer said the gray two-piece dress is an “Easter egg” for the new music.

“This is my creation,” Lorde said. “It’s something of an Easter egg. All will be revealed. I just love the open back. To me it represents where I’m at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman, you know?”

This year’s Met Gala theme was a tricky one — Black Dandyism — and the invitation didn’t come with any instructions. Guests were mostly left to their own devices to interpret what exactly that meant on the red carpet. And boy, did some of them interpret, with jaw-dropping looks ascending the Met’s 154-foot staircase.

Still, it was almost as if Anna Wintour had sent out a secret group chat (she didn’t, unless Jeffrey Goldberg knows something), with outfits following some very clear themes. Many women arrived with gleaming, Joesphine Baker-style marcel waves, while a lot of men sported glossy hair, top hats and tails that trailed like wedding trains. Everybody carried accessories galore — including one that looked suspiciously like a large garbage bag.

Thom Browne tailored a starry group for Monday night’s Met Gala.

Many of those A-list guests gathered for a group portrait in their custom looks by the American luxury designer as the Thom Browne class portrait has become something of an annual tradition at New York’s Pierre Hotel. Posing in their Monday best were stars of Hollywood, sports, music and fashion including Demi Moore, newly minted Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, Janelle Monáe, Whoopi Goldberg, Paul Tazewell, Severance star Tramell Tillman, Anok Yai, Walton Goggins, WNBA breakout Angel Reese, Lorde and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champ Saquon Barkley.

This year’s Met Gala went down with a theme of “Tailored for You,” a nice fit for Browne whose modern take on classic suiting has made him a celebrity magnet over the years. “For me, everything begins and ends with tailoring,” Browne told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old “Denial is a River” rapper won the award for Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 2) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

This marks Doechii first Grammy win. She is now the third female rapper to win in this category behind Cardi B and Lauryn Hill.

In her acceptance speech, Doechii became very emotional as she said, “This category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won…three women have won — Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doechii.” She went on to further introduce herself to the national audience and shout out the music being made in her hometown: “There’s so many people out there who probably don’t know who I am. In a recent chat with Variety, Fincher spilled the tea on his near-miss with the Harry Potter franchise. Apparently, Warner Bros. asked him how he would handle the world of magic, and his response? “I just don’t want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like Withnail and I, and I want it to be kind of creepy.” Now, Withnail and I is a cult-classic black comedy, dripping with offbeat charm and a touch of madness.

The stars were out for the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Awards on Friday night (January 3) at Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, Calif.

In Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams, German documentarian Reiner Holzemer, whose recent work has included films on the fashion houses of Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela, tackles a designer with an instantly recognizable aesthetic but an aversion to introspection. That makes Browne a somewhat distant subject, an enigma, as one friend and colleague describes him. He prefers to keep the creative spark tucked away inside his head and let his garments speak for themselves.

But wow, can those clothes talk. In workrooms and especially in extensive footage of runway shows that freely mix the oneiric with the whimsical — all of it coordinated down to the most minute detail — this great-looking doc spotlights collections that fuse impeccable construction with eccentricity and cheeky humor to beguiling effect.
