Disney's 'Cinderella' Spin-Off 'Prince Charming' Gets First Plot Details
Image
Disney is still committed to adapting their most beloved animated films into live-action movies, despite their past attempts receiving mixed reviews at best. Cinderella, which they already remade in 2015, is next on the chopping block. However, according to a new report, the film will potentially be the most unfaithful adaptation thus far. In fact, it won't even include Cinderella. The new live-action Prince Charming movie was announced last October, with Paddington's Paul King developing the film. Chris Hemsworth was also in talks to play the titular Prince, although, that appears to have fallen through. Since then, Twisters star Daisy Edgar-Jones has reportedly been cast in the movie, and her role has just been revealed.

Disney's live-action Prince Charming is reportedly moving ahead, according to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman. According to the report, the film will follow an unnamed animator (Edgar-Jones) who sketches drawings of Prince Charming from Cinderella. One day her drawing comes to life.

Daytime Revolution Review: Echoes of Dissent and Hope
Image
Erik Nelson creates a tapestry of fame and purpose in Daytime Revolution, capturing a fleeting yet important moment in 1972 when John Lennon and Yoko Ono appeared on the platform of The Mike Douglas Show.

Here, the banal fabric of daytime television was converted into a canvas for radical discourse, a space where the personal became political, and entertainment became a tool for change.

Nelson’s documentary is more than just a recital of events; it is a philosophical investigation into how celebrity may serve as a Trojan horse for ideas that challenge the existing quo.

The film alternates between archive material and intimate interviews, contrasting light and shadow, with laughter and activism coexisting. It invites us to ponder if the brilliant lights of celebrity can reveal the darkest corners of societal complacency or if they simply cast longer shadows.

Shadows of Dissent: The Socio-Political Landscape of the Early 1970s

The Amazing Kreskin Dies: Famed Mentalist And ’70s Talk Show Staple Was 89
Image
The Amazing Kreskin, whose clever, occasionally self-deprecating and always good-humored mentalist routines made him a talk show favorite of such hosts as Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas, David Letterman and Howard Stern, died Tuesday, December 10, in New Jersey. He was 89.

His death was announced by family on his official X page. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of The Amazing Kreskin, born George Kresge, at the age of 89. Performing for all of you brought immense joy to his life, and it was something he deeply cherished. The family kindly asks for privacy during this difficult time.”

Though he eschewed the terms and concepts “psychic,” “medium” and the occult, putting him closer in style to the skeptical illusionists like James Randi and Penn and Teller than spoon-bender Uri Geller, Kreskin nonetheless dazzled audiences with an uncanny ability to locate objects – including his paycheck – hidden by audience members. Kreskin...

The Amazing Kreskin, Iconic Mentalist, Passes Away at 89
Kreskin
The death of George Joseph Kresge Jr., also known as The Amazing Kreskin, has shocked the entertainment world. He died on Tuesday, aged 89, at his home in Caldwell, New Jersey. Kreskin was a well-known mentalist who entertained audiences for decades and became a pop culture figure.

Throughout his career, Kreskin has stressed his approach to entertainment. “I’m not a psychic, occultist, or fortune teller,” he frequently declared. “I am a scientist, a researcher in suggestion and ‘extrasensory’ perceptions.” His defining feat was locating his concealed performance check, which became legendary. Kreskin claimed he would not get paid if he couldn’t find it, and he found checks in unexpected locations like a turkey, a fire hose, and even inside a volunteer’s mouth.

Kreskin was a famous face on American television, having appeared 88 times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Carson dubbed him “The Amazing,” which became synonymous with Kreskin.

Disgruntled Fans React as Shelley Duvall Missing From Emmys In Memoriam
Image
The In Memoriam section of the 2024 Emmys paid tribute to some of the most beloved performers and creatives we've lost this year, but former Emmy-nominee, Shelley Duvall was missing from the list. Amid the celebrations, as our favorite shows are recognized by other industry veterans for their achievement, the In Memoriam section puts a pause on the festivities as we all take a moment to remember our favorite actors, directors, and writers, who have passed away this year. With a live performance of "I Am Not Okay" by Jelly Roll, this year's segment was particularly emotional. Some of the names featured in the section included Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, James Earl Jones, the recently deceased James Earl Jones, and the young Gen V star Chance Perdomo. However, Duvall, and some other notable names were absent from the commemoration.

Best known for her performance in The Shining, Duvall was actually nominated...

Look out, Micheal Douglas! Micheal Keaton is ready to take back his real name
Image
Many celebrities use stage names. They can be variations of the name they received at birth or something completely different, yet I nearly always find myself shocked when I learn that someone whose name I’ve known my entire life turns out to be a lie. That might be a bit dramatic. I should get out more. Some of you may have already known this (it’s never been a secret), but Michael Keaton was not born Michael Keaton; he was born Michael Douglas, and he’s looking to take the name back. Perhaps some Highlander-type battle is in order.

When Michael Keaton started his career in the 1970s, he was forced to choose a different name as the Screen Actors Guild doesn’t allow members to use another member’s professional name. Michael Douglas was already taken by… Michael Douglas, and there was also Mike Douglas, the talk-show host,...

Michael Keaton Hints He’s Ready to Change His Name Professionally
Image
Michael Keaton may be changing his name, professionally.

The actor, who was born as Michael Douglas, wasn’t able to use his birth name when he began his career as the Screen Actors Guild disallows its members from using the same name professionally as other actors. Since both Michael Douglas and Mike Douglas were taken, he had to find a new surname.

He ended up selecting his now-famous moniker in an unexpected way. “I was looking through — I can’t remember if it was a phone book,” the actor told People magazine. “I must’ve gone, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I went, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable.'”

Now after more than 30 years, he tells People, he’s ready to update his stage name to Michael Keaton Douglas. The name was meant to make its debut in the film he recently directed, Knox Goes Away,...

Michael Keaton Wants to Reclaim His Real Name, Michael Douglas
Image
Some folks have stage names for the vibes, while others adopt new monikers out of necessity. Michael Keaton, whose real name is Michael Douglas, is a prime example of the latter. Now, he’s looking to take back his real surname by integrating it into his better-known fake name.

As the story goes, when Keaton went to join the Screen Actors Guild, he found that both Michael Douglas and Mike Douglas had already been taken. Because SAG rules stipulate no actors can work under the same name, he picked “Keaton” on a whim.

“I was looking through — I can’t remember if it was a phone book,” Keaton told People. “I must’ve gone, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I went, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable.’”

Thus, Michael Keaton was born, and it would be the moniker under which he’d find quite a bit of success,...

Michael Keaton Prepares to Reclaim His Birth Name in Hollywood
Michael Keaton
Over his nearly five-decade acting career, acclaimed actor Michael Keaton has portrayed many memorable characters. However, fans may now know the star by a new name. Keaton, whose birth name is Michael John Douglas, plans to incorporate his full name into his professional credits moving forward.

The actor first adopted his stage name of “Michael Keaton” early in his career in 1975 due to naming conflicts within the Screen Actors Guild. Both well-known actor Michael Douglas and talk show host Mike Douglas were already working in Hollywood at the time. In a recent interview, Keaton recalled choosing his stage name from a phone book almost randomly to comply with SAG rules.

Since then, Keaton has established himself with standout roles in hit films like “Batman,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Mr. Mom.” He has appeared in over 90 movies and television shows. His breakout performance in 1982’s “Night Shift” earned him critical acclaim. Keaton received...

Michael Keaton Wants To Start Using His Real Name Michael Douglas
Image
After 50 years, Michael Keaton is outgrowing his stage name and returning to his roots.

The Academy Award nominee, who was born Michael John Douglas, recently explained how he landed on his professional moniker after the Screen Actors Guild prohibited him from using the same name as Wall Street actor Michael Douglas or talk show host Mike Douglas.

“I was looking through — I can’t remember if it was a phone book,” Keaton recalled to People. “I must’ve gone, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I went, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable.'”

He first appeared onscreen in 1975 episodes of Where the Heart Is and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, nearly a decade after Douglas’ first appearance in Cast a Giant Shadow (1966). Keaton has since gone on to rack up more than 90 credits under his stage name.

The Birdman star explained that he plans to combine to two...

Michael Keaton Wants to Start Being Credited by His Real Name Even Though It's Taken
Image
Veteran actor Michael Keaton has been a household name since the original Beetlejuice film hit theaters nearly nearly four decades ago. However, some fans may be surprised to learn that Michael Keaton is not the Batman star's real name, though more and more people will be finding out soon if he gets his way.

For anyone unaware, Keaton's birth name is Michael Douglas. Given how there was already an established actor with that name by the time Keaton got to Hollywood, he took on the moniker of Michael Keaton, as Screen Actors Guild rules don't allow for multiple performers to use the same name. He couldn't simply shorten his name to Mike Douglas, either, as there was a talk show host using that name at the time. Per People, the popular actor needed to come up with something different, and though he can't remember exactly where it came from,...

Michael Keaton’s Real Name Is Michael Douglas, and He’s Eyeing an Official Credits Switch to ‘Michael Keaton Douglas’ in the Future: ‘That Will Happen’
Image
Michael Keaton is back on the big screen in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which is aiming to clear the $100 million mark in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. The long-awaited sequel might be the last time the Oscar-nominated actor is officially credited as Michael Keaton, which has been his stage name since the start of his career in 1978.

Speaking to People magazine for a new cover story, Keaton said that he plans to change his official acting credit to something that’s closer to his birth name, Michael Douglas. Keaton could not use his real name when he was getting his Screen Actors Guild card in the late 1970s because there already was a Michael Douglas in Hollywood. And the name “Mike Douglas” was taken by a talk show host.

‘One to One: John & Yoko’ Review: An Exhilarating and Deeply Political Vision of a Year in the Life
Image
The bond between John Lennon and Yoko Ono, mutually inspired artists from very different worlds, is only one of the love stories at the core of director Kevin Macdonald’s vibrant and stirring new documentary. Tracing an eventful year, One to One: John & Yoko is, first and foremost, a portrait of the couple’s love affair with New York City, their newly adopted home. In its mix of remarkable archival material, the film is both tender and galvanizing, summoning up what New York felt like in 1972 (yes, I would know) and offering a fresh slant on a country’s upheaval and a generation’s countercultural awakening.

For Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland), One to One is not only a return to form after his mixed-bag profile of John Galliano, but one of his finest pieces of work. He and co-director/editor Sam Rice-Edwards have conjured...

Brooke Shields Says ‘I’m Amazed I Survived’ ’80s Teen Fame in ‘Pretty Baby’ Docuseries Trailer (Video)
Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields (2023)
In the new Hulu docuseries “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” the actress — who began modeling at 11 months and at age 12 and starred as a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s controversial film “Pretty Baby” — looks back on the pressures and insanity of being a worldwide sex symbol at such a young age.

Lana Wilson directed the two-part series, which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and will debut on Hulu on April 3. The film marks the debut project from BedBy8, the newly formed production company by Ali Wentworth, George Stephanopoulos and partner Alyssa Mastromonaco.

The trailer starts with a clip in which talk show host Mike Douglas makes the teenager visibly uncomfortable as he tells her, “You really are an exquisite-looking young lady.”

‘Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues’ Review: A Legend Comes to Life Once More
Image
Director Sacha Jenkins does the most important thing he could do in “Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues”: He lets Louis Armstrong be messy.

Armstrong is one of those legends about whom people have had strong, polarized opinions. He’s either the greatest artist of the 20th century, in the esteem of Robert Christgau or Wynton Marsalis. Or he’s an Uncle Tom, someone who sold out and pandered to white audiences, as Sammy Davis Jr. once thought. And of course there’s the third path of corporate America, to sand the edges of someone like Armstrong down until he’s a cuddly teddy bear whose “What a Wonderful World” stands ready to accompany any commercial.

Jenkins’ new documentary for Apple TV+ avoids those absolutes. He’s interested in the man who was Armstrong, and that means a more complete, nuanced picture — a portrait of a human not so easy to categorize.

George Carlin’s American Dream Is Seriously Funny
George Carlin
George Carlin’s American Dream presents George Carlin as standup comedy’s greatest wordsmith. Seven of these words made him infamous and earned him a place in legal history. Directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio’s two-part documentary highlights how Carlin’s brain-droppings started conversations which carry on today.

The “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television” bit defines Carlin in ways which go beyond comedy routines. The documentary shows how language, subterfuge, and identity are chosen, carefully selected to create a body of work which defies classification. Carlin had an elastic face and a knack for funny noises, but words are at the bottom of it all. When Carlin was a young comedian, he couldn’t embrace the counterculture commentator lurking beneath the surface on television. The documentary points out how he had to use code words. The Hippy Dippy Weatherman didn’t only forecast darkness at night,...

Bob White was just starting to settle in to a quiet night with his family at his Nottingham, England home last Friday when his cell phone dinged. And dinged again. And again.

The affable, 77-year-old retiree was enjoying a cup of coffee and was barely used to two alerts in one night. But now, his phone started blowing up incessantly and he had no idea why. “My daughter said to me, ‘What’s that noise?’ I went to pick up [my phone], and it was just going ping, ping, ping, ping, ping,...

Fox News, Ed Henry, Sean Hannity & Tucker Carlson Sued In Sex Trafficking, Sexual Harassment & Retaliation Suit
Image
(Updated with Fox News & Ed Henry attorney statements on lawsuit) Tucker Carlson is returning to Fox News Channel tonight after a short vacation, but along with the cabler newser itself, Sean Hannity and the now fired Ed Henry, the top rated host also finds himself in the center of a whole new legal spotlight of alleged misconduct at the now Suzanne Scott and Jay Wallace-run outlet.

“It is widely documented in the public record that Fox News has not only cultivated and fostered sexual harassment and misconduct, but has consistently accepted and rewarded it,” says a sex trafficking, sexual harassment, gender discrimination and retaliation lawsuit from former Fox Business Network associate producer Jennifer Eckhart and former Fnc guest Cathy Areu filed today against the Rupert Murdoch-owned outlet, its former reporter and some of its biggest and loudest primetime hosts.

“Nevertheless, Fox News would have the public believe that...

Kelly Clarkson
‘Kelly Clarkson’ Is a Ratings Winner — and a Throwback to Old Days of Talk Shows
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson built her career by blending country, pop, R&b and rock influences into a soulful sound all her own. As it turns out, the singer-songwriter has a touch of Dinah Shore in her as well.

Clarkson has delivered an impressive performance so far with her move into the daytime talk-show arena as host of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Since its September debut, the hourlong talk-variety show, distributed by NBCUniversal, has proven to be a ratings contender, ranking No. 4 among all syndicated daytime talkers, ahead of such veterans as “Maury,” “Rachael Ray” and “The Wendy Williams Show.”

The “American Idol” alum’s strong start is adding more fuel to the renewed fire in the first-run syndication business. After a few fallow years, distributors are slowly but surely taking bigger swings with boldface names in an effort to seed a new generation of personalities. Drew Barrymore and Nick Cannon are...

Tamron Hall
Tamron Hall On ‘Today’ Exit and New ABC Talk Show: “I Knew I Was Making The Right Decision”- TCA
Tamron Hall
The journey of new daytime talk show Tamron Hall went through a lot before landing at ABC and as the titular host revealed at TCA, the show started with Harvey Weinstein and then came after her much-buzzed-about departure from Today where she was ousted and Megyn Kelly took over with a segment that eventually sank. Despite the obstacles, Hall came out on top with her new show and is very open about her exit.

Hall pointed out that she never measured herself by the success or failure of Kelly. “I already knew [NBC] made the wrong choice when I walked out the door,” she said. “It gave me the opportunity to meet these two people. I knew I was making the right decision.”

The two people she was referring to was Tamron Hall executive prodcuer Bill Geddie, who co-created The View and Talia Parkinson-Jones,...

‘The Loudest Voice’ Gets Very Soft Viewership For Debut; Roger Ailes BioSeries Least Watched Showtime Premiere This Year
One of Fox News Channel founder Roger Ailes’ obsession was ratings, and the former Mike Douglas Show producer would have cackled at how quiet the debut of Showtime’s Russell Crowe starring The Loudest Voice was.

With just 299,000 viewers for its 10 Pm opener on the CBS-owned premium cabler, the Gladiator actor and Naomi Watts, Seth McFarlane and Sienna Miller co-starrer looks to be one of the lowest non-broadcast debuts of the year so far. While the decades of antics and much alleged sexually harassing behavior of ex-Richard Nixon advisor Ailes was the subject of a forest full of coverage (including here on the digital only Deadline) especially once Gretchen Carlson sued her ex-boss in 2016, the initial numbers make it pretty clear there wasn’t much of a market for more outside of the media itself

Based on Gabriel Sherman’s 2014 bestseller The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant,...

Emma Thompson, Anne Reid, Jessica Hynes, Russell Tovey, Rory Kinnear, T'Nia Miller, Ruth Madeley, Jade Alleyne, and Lydia West in Years and Years (2019)
‘The Loudest Voice’ & ‘Years And Years’ Review: It’s Rupert Murdoch’s World, Past & Semi-Fictional Future
Emma Thompson, Anne Reid, Jessica Hynes, Russell Tovey, Rory Kinnear, T'Nia Miller, Ruth Madeley, Jade Alleyne, and Lydia West in Years and Years (2019)
Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of Showtime’s The Loudest Voice & HBO’s Years And Years. The former premieres on June 30 & the latter debuts tonight.

The initial round of voting for the 2019 Emmys ends today, but the opening salvos of the 2020 Emmys start tonight with the debut of Years and Years on HBO in less than an hour and the premiere of Showtime’s Roger Ailes bioseries The Loudest Voice on June 30.

Near certain to be prime contenders in the Limited Series category next year, the often excellent Emma Thompson-led British dystopian family drama and the often engrossing Russell Crowe-fronted offering will see Rupert Murdoch as the real winner no matter who takes home the winged trophy at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

In unintentional flattery to the ruthless media mogul, both the partially Tom McCarthy-penned Loudest Voice and the Russell T. Davies-created and -written Years and Years...

‘Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes’ Film Review: Fox News Kingpin Disgusts and Illuminates in New Doc
Bill Gates in Waiting for 'Superman' (2010)
Would you like to blame Bill Gates for Roger Ailes creating Fox News? You could harbor that grudge if you so desired after watching Alexis Bloom’s bracing biopic documentary “Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes,” because it’s one of the fascinating tidbits of speculative psychology in the grand narrative of a dark-hearted, power-thirsty mogul’s stranglehold on our divisive political discourse.

It seems that in the mid-90s, flush from his many years helping Republican candidates like Mitch McConnell get elected, Ailes was content to be a talk-show magnate, running his brainchild America’s Talking, a CNBC spinoff network that was the first real attempt to launch an all-chat-show channel with a wide audience reach.

But when NBC partnered with Bill Gates to start MSNBC, they gave the software billionaire the transponder used for America’s Talking, effectively ending Ailes’ baby. Steamed and spiteful, according to the documentary,...

Did Will & Grace Oversell J.Lo Cameo? Is Chicago Too Cold for Car Sex? Arrow's Laurel on the Upswing? And More Qs!
We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Once Upon a Time, Riverdale, Will & Grace and Grey’s Anatomy!

1 | Did Once Upon a Time‘s Wish Hook seem more distinct a Killian Jones than ever once he was teamed with Zelena — to great comedic effect — in the other realm? (Speaking of which, are there “Zook” ‘shippers?)

2 | Given what we now know about when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Yo-Yo suffered her double amputation, did you go back...

Michael O’Donoghue: Is America Ready for Mr. Mike?
Image
Hello? Yes, this is Michael. You wanna do an interview with me? The day after tomorrow? Why, that’s my day of rest! Well, okay, I’ll cooperate — but I’ll be doing a lot of drugs; I’m not giving up that part of my Sunday.

“Besides, I’ve got a lot to talk about. I got an idea last night for a book of poetry called Jesus May Love You, but I Think You’re Garbage Wrapped in Skin.”

I arrive at O’Donoghue’s New York West...
