Rainn Wilson Says ‘The Office’ Was a “Struggle” Without Steve Carell: ‘We Knew it Was Coming For a Long Time’
Image
Rainn Wilson recently talked about how things changed on The Office after Steve Carell left. He was a guest on the “Good Guys” podcast with Josh Peck and Ben Soffer, and said it wasn’t easy for the cast or the crew to keep the show going after Carell’s exit in 2011. Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute for all nine seasons, said it was a tough adjustment.

“When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who’s the lead,” he said. “How are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott? That was also a struggle.”

Even though it was hard, Wilson said Carell’s exit didn’t catch anyone off guard. “We knew it was coming for a long time,” he said.

Rainn Wilson Says Filming ‘The Office’ Was a Struggle After Steve Carell Left
Image
Rainn Wilson is looking back at what it was like to be part of The Office after Steve Carell left, and he’s not sugarcoating anything. During an appearance on the “Good Guys” podcast with Josh Peck and Ben Soffer, Wilson said things got pretty rough on set after their leading star said goodbye in 2011.

Wilson, who played fan-favorite Dwight Schrute for all nine seasons, said losing Carell really shook up the whole series. “When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who’s the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott,” he said. “That was also a struggle.”

According to Wilson, Steve Carell’s exit wasn’t a surprise to anyone on set. He said the cast knew it was coming for...

King Of The Hill’s Return Brings Big Life Changes To Arlen(Photo Credit –YouTube)

King of the Hill is back, and the propane fumes hit differently in 2025.

After 13 seasons and a 14-year break, the beloved Texas-set animated series returns on August 4, 2025, with ten new episodes on Hulu. And no, this isn’t just a lazy nostalgia grab. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are bringing back the same weird, warm, stubborn world, aged up and ready to face everything from charcoal grilling to bike lanes.

As per Variety, from Bobby’s chef dreams to Hank’s early retirement crisis, the new season leans into real-time aging and reinvention. This isn’t Arlen stuck in amber. It’s a neighborhood waking up to a new era, one propane tank at a time.

15 Best TV Shows Like Abbott Elementary
Image
"Abbott Elementary" is one of the biggest comedies currently on TV, but it's far from the most unique show. Created by and starring comedian Quinta Brunson, it's a mockumentary sitcom documenting the lives of an eclectic group of teachers at the titular West Philadelphian elementary school, with the main characters of "Abbott Elementary" including eager-to-please Janine (Brunson), old-fashioned Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), substitute Gregory (Tyler James Williams), and incompetent principal Ava (Janelle James).

If you're already ahead on the fact that "Abbott Elementary" is must-watch TV, then you're probably already aware of some of these other similar sitcoms. Whether it's because they're also set at schools, are also in the mockumentary format, or includes characters that are also charming and wholesome, many of these shows are spiritual predecessors to "Abbott." If you've seen the ABC show but not these, add these shows like "Abbott Elementary" to your watchlist as soon as possible,...

‘Common Side Effects’ Is a Real Trip
Image
When one starts watching Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects, it’s easy to feel confused about exactly what it is. Is it a comedy? A thriller? A drama? A sci-fi epic? A bizarre drug trip?

After a while, though, it becomes clear that the answer to all those questions is the same one. Just as it is for the question of whether this is one of the best new shows of the year:

Damn right it is.

The animated series, which debuted back in February, was created by Joseph Bennett and Steve Hely,...

The minute fans hear “found footage,” they jump to the big names of the genre — The Blair Witch Projectcomes to mind. Now, a new film has emerged that will challenge what a found footage film can do: Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project. ‘King of the Hill’ Father’s Day Teaser Reveals Hank Hill’s Newest Rules for Life
Image
Hank Hill is back from Saudi Arabia, and you’d better believe that he has some strong feelings on the subject of beer.

On August 4th, Hulu will drop the entire 10-episode first season of their King of the Hill revival, bringing Arlen, Texas and its idiosyncratic inhabitants back to our screens after nearly 16 years off of the air. King of the Hill creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have made the executive decision to address this time-jump within the universe of the show, aging up the characters and explaining that Hank and Peggy Hill are coming back from an extended work stay in the Middle East to find 2025 American society — and their now-adult son Bobby — frighteningly modern.

One thing that the hiatus hasn’t changed, however, is Hank’s affinity for making sweeping statements about the way the world is supposed to work using folksy phrasing that is always (and often unintentionally) hilarious.

'King of the Hill' Revival Gets New Teaser for Father's Day
Image
Hulu has shared a comical new teaser for its upcoming King of the Hillrevival, and this one's for all the dads that keep the handshakes firm and the beers cold. The 40-second preview of the new season of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels' animated series was released online on June 15, Father's Day, and, aptly, features Hank Hill offering some fatherly advice to his now-adult son Bobby, who he greets with a firm handshake, proving that he hasn't become any more tactile or affectionate in his years away from the screen. He's still the same old Hank.

In the video (shared below), Hank serves up three nuggets of wisdom alongside his signature beers and burgers. Firstly, he encourages simple living, which, according to him, includes keeping your beverages in the fridge. Secondly, he suggests there is always room for improvement as he stops short of rating the driver of a ride-hailing...

‘Fortnite’ Partners With ‘Bob’s Burgers,’ ‘Family Guy’ and ‘King of the Hill’ for Father’s Day Promotion
Image
Bob Belcher, Cleveland Brown and Hank Hill are coming to “Fortnite.” via a Father’s Day-themed promotion with 20th Television Animation, the studio announced Friday. “Fortnite” players will be able to purchase items as either a bundle or via a la carte.

The partnership is a key moment of synergy: Disney’s 20th TV Animation is behind all three shows, and Disney has a $1.5 billion stake in “Fortnite” owner Epic Games.

Here’s how the “Fortnite” in-game event is being promoted: “Maybe you’re a Bob – serving puns rarer than your burgers. Or a Hank? Passionate about propane and silently judging uneven lawns. Or maybe you’re a Cleveland – you love minor league baseball and hats and ooze classic dad charm.”

Bob Belcher, of course, comes from “Bob’s Burgers” and is voiced by H. Jon Benjamin. “Family Guy’s” Cleveland Brown is voiced by Arif Zahir. And the Hank Hill...

‘The Office’ Original Planned Ending Was a Disaster for Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, Despite What Fans Feel
Image
For nearly a decade, The Office graced the television screens, captivating fans with its dry humor, quirky characters, and one of the most iconic bosses in sitcom history, Michael Scott. When The Office reached its 2013 finale, fans were eager to see how the series would conclude the stories of its unforgettable characters. The most unexpected moment was Michael’s return, who had quietly left Dunder Mifflin at the end of season 7.

His character evolved from a bumbling regional manager to a man who, in his own clumsy way, found love and a sense of personal growth. He returned for the show’s 2013 series finale, and it was a satisfying moment for many fans. However, the original plan of his return threatened to undo all that progress, even Steve Carell agrees.

Michael Scott’s big return in The Office finale would have been a disaster Steve Carell’s Michael Scott in...

“A massive mistake”: Domhnall Gleeson Follows Steve Carell in ‘The Office’ Spinoff That Inspires Hope
Image
Domhnall Gleeson is stepping into new comedic territory with The Paper, a fresh mockumentary series from The Office creator Greg Daniels. The show had already sparked comparisons to its iconic predecessor. Gleeson, however, is approaching the role with his own spin, and with some words of wisdom from familiar faces.

While The Paper carries the DNA of The Office, it’s far from a reboot. Instead, it promises something entirely new. Despite the connection, Gleeson urges fans not to expect a reboot of the iconic NBC sitcom. In the spirit of Steve Carell, who refused to imitate Ricky Gervais’ David Brent when The Office was adapted for an American audience, Gleeson is now taking a similar path.

‘King of the Hill’ Fans Raise Concerns About Peggy’s Feet in the Revival
Image
Every King of the Hill superfan knows that Peggy Hill has a prodigious pair of stompers. After all, Grant Trimble doesn’t shell out for “educational videos” featuring size eights.

This August 4th, King of the Hill will return with brand new episodes on Hulu as Hank and Peggy move back to Arlen following an extended stay in Saudi Arabia for a peculiar propane job. As creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have been saying since the streamer first greenlit new seasons of King of the Hill, the show will diegetically address the time-jump since the show’s original finale, “To Sirloin with Love,” back in 2009, aging up the characters and explaining what exactly happened during the 16-year gap.

Apparently, as some King of the Hill fans in the subreddit pointed out, Peggy spent some of that hiatus undergoing an experimental foot-shrinking procedure, as her previously towering trotters now appear to be preposterously average.

The Office Star Jenna Fischer Was Cast As Pam Beesly Thanks To One Word
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

More than a decade removed from its series finale, it feels fair to say that "The Office" is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time. Right up there with the likes of "Cheers" and "Friends," the tale of the Dunder Mifflin paper company and the employees who make that seemingly normal company run has etched its place in the annals of television history. Anyone who was on that show has, in turn, achieved some level of immortality, including key players like the receptionist Pam Beesly, as played by Jenna Fischer.

Pam was, of course, a life-changing role for Fischer, who has since parlayed the show's popularity into a very successful podcast called "Office Ladies." Even more incredible, it appears that Fischer landing the role really came down to one word during her audition. During an appearance on...

'The Office' Reboot Star Says It's Wrong to Compare His Character With Michael Scott
Image
Domhnall Gleeson is preparing himself for one of his most important roles to date. The Harry Potter and Ex-Machina actor is set to play the lead in the upcoming The Office reboot/spin-off, The Paper, exclusively premiering on Peacock this September. While it's inevitable to try and find some of the Dunder Mifflin magic in everything that has come after the NBC series, Gleeson considers it a "massive mistake" to make his character compete with those previously portrayed by Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais.

Gleeson spoke to People magazine during the premiere of his new film co-starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, Echo Valley. The conversation quickly segued into the actor's upcoming TV endeavor, the reboot created by Greg Daniels, who was also the showrunner of the U.S. version of The Office. Not much is known about the spin-off except that it follows the personnel working at a struggling Ohio newspaper,...

Mike Schur May Be the Nicest Guy After He Risked ‘Parks and Rec’ to Get One Actor Signed
Image
Parks and Rec might never have become the beloved sitcom it is today if not for a gutsy move made behind the scenes. At the center of it all was Mike Schur, a figure known for crafting smart and heartfelt comedies like The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Good Place.

Just as the show was getting off the ground, Schur and his co-creator Greg Daniels made one crucial decision during the show’s development that could’ve cost them everything. They sacrificed nearly half a season’s episodes just to sign one actor. And maybe that’s why the beloved sitcom became a comedy classic with Amy Poehler as the lead.

Mindy Kaling Reveals Plans to Act Again and Ben Affleck’s Reaction to Her 2002 Play ‘Matt & Ben’
Image
Mindy Kaling sat down for a Paley Media Council Series conversation on Thursday, touching on her two-decade career in Hollywood and what she wants to do next.

The star, who got her start as a writer and supporting actress on The Office, said her original goal was “if I could just be a staff writer on even a terrible show, even if I could just be in the WGA and have health insurance and live in Los Angeles, I would be happy for the rest of my life.” As she became more successful, though, she wanted to produce and be No. 1 on the call sheet, admitting her idea of success “keeps changing and so I’m never happy, and that’s the writer’s disease.”

What got her on The Office in the first place was a play she wrote in 2002 called Matt & Ben, where “I played Ben Affleck and...

Jonathan Joss: Police Are Investigating Actor’s Sexual Orientation as Motive in His Killing

Police investigating the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss have not ruled out his sexual orientation playing a role in his killing, despite an earlier statement suggesting otherwise.

The Star of ‘The Paper’ Says Competing With Carell or Gervais’ ‘The Office’ Is a “Massive Mistake”
Image
The documentation of dying industries, as seen in the 2005 NBC comedy The Office, continues with The Paper. The upcoming series, created by The Office showrunner Greg Daniels, carries the same beats as the massively popular Steve Carell-led series. The Paper is made in the same documentary style as its predecessor featured and details a dying Midwestern newspaper. Domhnall Gleeson was cast in the lead role as the newspaper's boss. This has instigated comparisons to the old boss, Michael Scott, played by Carell. Gleeson thinks this comparison is unwarranted since the characters are not even remotely the same person. “I don't think my characters like Michael Scott at alI,” he told People. The boss has been played by various actors in different versions of The Office, including the UK version, which inspired the 2005 American remake. Domhnall explained how these comparisons are misplaced, saying:

“I think if you're trying to compete...

Two Days Before He Was Killed, Jonathan Joss Crashed a ‘King of the Hill’ Panel. Here’s What Happened in the Room
Image
A few hours before I was scheduled to moderate the “King of the Hill” reunion/revival panel last Friday at Austin’s Atx TV Festival, I got to watch the first two episodes of the series’ highly anticipated upcoming return. Most of the show’s main characters are back, but have aged since we last saw them in 2009: Hank and Peggy are retired, and Bobby is now a successful 21-year-old sushi chef.

Among the supporting characters, in Episode 2 we see neighbor Nancy Gribble (voiced by Ashley Gardner) – as well as the object of her not-so-secret love affair, John Redcorn (voiced by Jonathan Joss). Gardner and Joss weren’t included on the Atx panel, as it was meant to be a small gathering led by creators Mike Judge (also the voices of Hank Hill and Boomhauer) and Greg Daniels. Also on stage were just three additional actors: Pamela Adlon (who...

‘King of the Hill’ Fans Revolt Against the Show’s Instagram Tribute to Jonathan Joss
Image
Yesterday, King of the Hill co-creators Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and showrunner Saladin Patterson honored slain Koth star Jonathan Joss, who was shot and killed by a neighbor at his San Antonio home on Sunday night, with a post shared to the series’ official Instagram page, detailing just how much the John Redcorn actor’s “voice will be missed.”

“Jonathan brought King of the Hill’s ‘John Redcorn’ to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival,” read the post, which included a photo of Joss and his on-screen persona. “We extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan’s friends and family.”

Some fans, however, weren’t sold on the sentiment behind this statement, flocking to the comments with questions surrounding how the Koth brain trust handled Joss’ challenging final months. Namely, why Joss was excluded from the King of the Hill panel at the Atx TV Festival in Austin,...

BBC Studios Producer Reveals Why ‘Ghosts’ Is “Indebted” To ‘Friends’ – Seriencamp
Image
Ghosts might be one of the most popular comedies of modern times, but it owes a large debt to the biggest sitcom of them all, Friends.

That was the assertion of Charles Harrison, BBC Studios International Scripted Formats Producer, at Seriencamp today during a session about the international expansion of Ghosts. The series, originally from Monumental Television for the BBC in the UK, follows a young couple inherit a huge castle, only to find one of them can communicate with the various apparitions from history who already live there.

“What the castle is about is something very deep in the English psyche,” he said. “For the last 20 years in the UK all of our television has been about aspiring to own a home, to own a home in the country, or to do up a home, so the idea of winning a castle is the dream for English people. In this case,...

In His Final Public Appearance, Jonathan Joss Said That He Wanted to Go Out Like His ‘King of the Hill’ Co-Star Johnny Hardwick

Jonathan Joss kept his late co-star Johnny Hardwick in his mind until the very end of his life, when the King of the Hill family suffered yet another tragedy.

Yesterday evening, San Antonio police arrived at Joss’ home to find the TV legend with multiple gunshot wounds, which they believe were inflicted by his neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, whom the officers arrested just one block from the site of shooting. Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has since claimed that the shooting was a homophobic hate crime following a pattern of intimidation and abuse that went unaddressed by local authorities. Paramedics pronounced Joss dead on the scene.

Just one day before Joss would die in the horrific tragedy, he made an appearance at a live recording of Bwaaa! a King of the Hill Podcast in Austin, Texas, where he made numerous concerning and, at times, erratic comments. At one point,...

Jonathan Joss, ‘King of the Hill’ Voice Actor, Dies at 59
Image
Jonathan Joss, the actor best known for voicing John Redcorn in “King of the Hill,” died Sunday at the age of 59.

When they arrived on the scene, they discovered that Joss had been shot several times by one of his neighbors, who attempted to flee the scene of the crime in a car. Paramedics attempted to save Joss’ life but were ultimately unsuccessful and the actor was pronounced dead Sunday night.

Joss’ neighbor, identified as Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega, was arrested a block away from the shooting. Alvarez-Cega, who reportedly got into a heated argument with Joss before killing him, has been charged with murder. TMZ was the first outlet to break the news.

The Office Finale Hid A Huge Steve Carell Secret—Even NBC Didn’t Know!
Image
The Office Finale(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Here’s a throwback nugget for every The Office fan: Steve Carell’s surprise return in the series finale was a top-secret mission that barely anyone outside the inner circle knew about. Seriously, the showrunners went all out to keep Michael Scott’s comeback under wraps, even from NBC executives. And trust me, this little-known fact perfectly explains why that moment felt so special.

From the very first season, Michael Scott was the heart and soul of The Office. When Steve Carell left after season seven, the show lost a spark. So when rumors swirled about Michael showing up in the finale, fans were thrilled. But what really blew me away was how carefully the team hid his return. Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, spilled the beans on the Office Ladies podcast. She explained that during the final table read, Creed Bratton read Michael’s lines.

The Parks And Recreation Cast Created A Fake TV Show That Sounds Perfect
Image
"Parks and Recreation" was originally envisioned as a spin-off of "The Office," but Greg Daniels and Michael Schur's political sitcom ultimately became its own beautiful thing, and the rest is history. Thanks to the series' ability to charm viewers, real people celebrate holidays like Galentine's Day and Treat Yo Self Day, proving that its cultural impact is real. Not only that, but the success of "Parks and Recreation" prepared Chris Pratt for "Guardians of the Galaxy," and the other cast members have enjoyed further success in their own right. That said, fans of the show would love to see them reunite — but don't expect to see them in a show called "Philly Justice."

If you've heard of "Philly Justice" and assumed it's a planned spin-off of "Parks and Recreation," it's because an in-joke by the cast of Daniels and Schur's sitcom has taken on a life of its own.

‘King of the Hill’ cast and creators on revival: ‘Bobby’s got a little bit of fame and a little bit of swagger’
Image
“On August 4th I will be back, and I’m pissed off.”

That's how King of the Hill cocreator and executive producer Mike Judge teased the long-anticipated revival of the Hulu animated series, in the voice of Hank Hill. The show will be returning for its 14th season on Hulu, after wrapping a 13-year run in 2009.

Judge offered a sneak peek at what's in store for Season 14 at a panel at the Atx TV Festival in Austin that also included cocreator and executive producer Greg Daniels, executive producer and showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, and voice cast members Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom and Toby Huss.

The new season finds Hank and Peggy having retired and returning to live in Texas, after working in Saudi Arabia; Bobby (as voiced by Adlon) is now 21 and working as a sushi chef — technically a "German sushi robata" chef — in Dallas.

Judge said they had toyed...

‘King of the Hill’ Revival First Details: Hank and Peggy Are Retired, Bobby’s a Dallas Chef, Dale Was Briefly Arlen’s Mayor and More
Image
“King of the Hill” fans are a passionate bunch — which is why star Pamela Adlon says she’s gotten used to people showing her their tattoo of her character, Bobby Hill.

“I have a trove of people who send me their Bobby tattoos,” Adlon said. “Or they have a bobby pin, the head is a Bobby pin. Or they have just Bobby with his shirt up, with the chips on the couch. I’m like, ‘you have that on your arm or your tit forever? Why!?’ But I’m honored.”

Adlon and fellow “King” stars Lauren Tom (Connie) and Toby Huss joined co-creators Mike Judge (also the voice of Hank Hill and Boomhauer) and Greg Daniels on Austin’s Paramount Theatre stage Friday at the Atx TV Festival to reminisce about the series’ 13-season run — and give some hints at what’s to come as the show is revived for...

‘The Office’ Star Jenna Fischer Says a One-Word Improvisation ‘Got Me’ the Role of Pam: It Was ‘So Scary’
Image
Jenna Fischer landed her career-defining role with just a single word.

In a recent sit-down with Dana Carvey and David Spade on their “Fly on the Wall Podcast,” Fischer broke down how she got the part of Pam Beesly, who throughout nine seasons of “The Office,” became one of the most iconic characters in television history.

“I had been auditioning for [casting director] Allison [Jones] for about five years before ‘The Office,'” Fischer said. “When it was time for her to cast ‘The Office,’ I had a good enough relationship with her that I could say, ‘Hey Allison, do you have any advice? I really want this one.’ And she said, ‘My advice is don’t come in looking hot. Don’t come in all done up.'”

Fischer continued, “And then she said, ‘We’re going to have you improvise during the audition and my advice is: Dare to bore me.

King of the Hill Reboot Synopsis Reveals Surprising Reason Hank and Family Moved Away
Image
This summer, King of the Hill returns with a revival, which essentially serves as the 14th season of the show. It comes with a significant time jump, and ahead of the series premiere in August, new plot details reveal what has been happening with the Hills since the original show ended its run.

The King of the Hill revival will premiere on Hulu on Aug. 4, but the new opening credit sequence has already been released. It brings back the familiar theme song that was used in the original, but with updated animations that offer a flash-forward sequence of the events through the years, hinting that the Hill family had actually moved away before eventually moving back. The official synopsis for the revival season reveals why the Hills left, and it's because Hank took on a new job in Saudia Arabia.

The official synopsis for Season 14 reads, "After years working a...

So said Mike Judge as the voice of Hank Hill to close Friday’s “King of the Hill” reunion and revival panel at the Atx Television Festival. Fans packed a sold-out Paramount Theater in Austin, TX to celebrate the first 13 seasons of the Fox animated comedy and get an exclusive preview of Season 14, straight from the series’ co-creators Judge and Greg Daniels, executive producer and new showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, and members of the voice cast Pamela Adlon (who won an Emmy for portraying Bobby Hill), Lauren Tom (who voices Minh and Connie Souphanousinphone), and Toby Huss (who voiced Kahn Souphanousinphone and Cotton Hill in the original run and will replace the late Johnny Hardwicke as Dale Gribble in the revival).

The Office Star Reveals the One Word That Landed Her Pam Beesly Role
Image
The Office star Jenna Fischer has revealed that improvising one word in her audition landed her the role of Pam Beesly. Fisher starred in all nine seasons of the NBC sitcom.

Fischer opened up about the audition process for the NBC show during a recent appearance on the Fly on the Wall podcast. She recalled being friendly enough with The Office's casting director Allison Jones to ask for some advice before auditioning in front of series creator Greg Daniels. Given the documentary-style format of The Office, Jones encouraged Fischer not to "come in looking hot" and to "dare to bore me" during the improvisation part of the audition.

Jenna Fischer Opens Up About Her Audition for The Office

Fischer recalled that one pivotal moment from her audition involved Daniels improvising a scene where he asked Fischer (as Pam) whether she enjoyed being a receptionist.

"I had that note in my head and he said,...

Here’s What All the ‘King of the Hill’ Characters Have Been Up to Since the Series Ended
Image
Earlier today, my colleague Jm McNab wrote that the newly released opening credits sequence for King of the Hill’s forthcoming 14th season is “full of more questions than answers.” But having attended the show’s Atx TV Festival panel earlier tonight, I can report a little bit more information than one is able to glean from the credits tease.

Here’s what we know…

Hank Hill

As McNab noted, Hulu’s official logline has already revealed that Hank spent several years working a propane-related job in Saudi Arabia to save up for his retirement. Series co-creator Mike Judge, who also voices Hank, confirmed that Hank was employed in the world of “Saudi propane and Saudi propane accessories.” We also learned that the Hills lived on the Aramco residential base, where Hank liked that women were covered in public. Returning to the U.S. after a six-year absence, “there’s...

A 'King of the Hill’ Cast Panel Becomes An Emotional Reminiscence About the Late Johnny Hardwick
Image
There were a few notable absences at tonight’s King of the Hill panel at the Atx TV Festival. Stephen Root (who voices Bill) was at work on another unnamed project — that’s according to panelist Toby Huss, who is co-starring with him in it. Kathy Najimy (who voices Peggy) was described with glowing compliments for her work, but we didn’t find out why she sat this one out; if she just wanted to avoid the revolting early-summer Austin weather, that’s reason enough.

Then there are the performers we’ve lost since the show’s former series finale back in 2009: Brittany Murphy (Luanne), Tom Petty (Luanne’s husband Lucky) and Johnny Hardwick (who both voiced Dale and wrote on the show). Hardwick’s death, in 2023, still seems to be fresh in his colleagues’ minds, based on the frequency with which he was mentioned, and the emotion his memory evoked.

King of the Hill revival teaser reveals release date and a grown up Bobby Hill
Kathy Najimy, Breckin Meyer, Brittany Murphy, Ashley Gardner, Beth Grant, Johnny Hardwick, Toby Huss, Jonathan Joss, Mike Judge, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, and Lauren Tom in Les rois du Texas (1997)
Hulu has dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming King of the Hill revival series, and y’all ain’t ready for adult Bobby! The teaser consists of the new opening credit sequence, which, at first glance, seems a lot like the original. However, the seasons (and years) quickly change, until the Hill family moves away, and Bill, Boomhauer, and Dale actually get a new neighbour for a bit. Thankfully, Hank and Peggy move back to their old house and are joined by their now adult son.

Set to premiere on August 4, the 10-episode season finds “Hank and Peggy Hill are now retired and return to a changed Arlen after years of working in Saudi Arabia; and Bobby is 21 and living his best life while navigating adulthood as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph, and Chane.“

It’s not unheard of,...

‘King Of The Hill’ Casts Toby Huss As Voice Of Dale Gribble
Image
Toby Huss has been tapped to voice the conspiracy-minded Dale Gribble in King of the Hill‘s upcoming Season 14 revival.

He takes over the role voiced by the late Johnny Hardwick, who portrayed the character in the show’s original 13-year run, appearing in 257 of 258 episodes. Hardwick died in 2023. Due to the long lead time on animated shows, he had completed six episodes before he passed, and will be credited as a series regular on those episodes until they have aired and Huss takes over the role. Hardwick had been with the Emmy-winning animated series since its debut in 1997 through its final episode on Fox in 2010. He also served as a writer and a story editor during his run on the show.

The show notes Dale Gribble is an unsuccessful exterminator and massive conspiracy theorist who is one of Hank Hill’s long-time friends. In the revival, he remains an...

Mike Judge Based King of the Hill’s Most Unique Character on a Frustrated Fan Who Left Him a Voicemail Rant on ‘Beavis & Butt-Head’
Image
Mike Judge is widely known for creating some of the most iconic animated shows in television history, from Beavis & Butt-Head to King of the Hill. But did you know one of King of the Hill’s most unique characters was actually inspired by a frustrated fan?

That’s right – Judge once received a long, angry voicemail from a viewer who wasn’t happy with Beavis & Butt-Head. So, instead of ignoring it, he used that voicemail as the basis for one of his most memorable characters. Let’s dive deeper!

Mike Judge turned a furious fan into King of the Hill’s funniest character

If you’ve watched King of the Hill, chances are you’ve scratched your head trying to figure out what Boomhauer was actually saying. With his lightning-fast, mumbled speech full of “dang ol’” this and “man I tell ya” that, he quickly became one of the...

Variety reports that the upcoming Hulu revival has tapped a replacement for the beloved King of the Hillcharacter, and it's a familiar voice to fans of the animated comedy — Toby Huss. Hardwick recorded six episodes before his death, officially ending his run after playing Dale for 13 seasons and 258 episodes of the original series on Fox. The news was to be formally announced at the Atx TV Festival in Austin today, where creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, and other members of the cast and crew are set to preview their return to Arlen.

Huss was announced as part of the reunion/revival panel the show had planned, but hadn't formally been cast in the new run until now. He's played a big part in the Hill family's story, playing Hank's grouchy,...
