Lifetime’s ‘The Boy Who Vanished’ Balances Heart and Mystery [Review]
Image
Last month’s Lifetime film, I am Your Biggest Fan, focused exclusively on an abduction. This month’s pick, The Boy Who Vanished, explores the same kind of crime, albeit with a focus on the aftermath.

Writer Ken Miyamoto tosses the audience in the deep end right from the start. The film opens at night as a teen boy walks up to a payphone and calls the police, identifying himself as kidnapping victim Jack Reese.

It’s not until we’ve gone through the morning routine of Haley (Tegan Moss) and Richard (Matthew Kevin Anderson) that the couple’s connection to Jack becomes evident. They seem mildly overprotective of their young, pre-teen son Tyler (Kingston Goodjohn) and for good reason: when Haley and Richard meet with Detective Doyle (Vincent Ross) at the police station, it is revealed that Jack is their son…and he’s been missing for twelve years.

Image
Time is slipping away on the MGM+ series Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue. With just three episodes left to go, many viewers are likely rooting for Kevin Anderson to survive, since he's played by Eric McCormack. The actor is still beloved from his role on Will & Grace -- so did that help him perplex the audience when portraying a potential murder suspect?

In an interview with Cbr, Blair and McCormack talked about working to keep the show's suspense going, and revealed the challenges they faced during filming.

Cbr: What was it about Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue that initially held your interest?

Everything on HBO Max: A Guide to the Movies and TV Shows of WarnerMedia’s Streaming Service
Kevin Reilly
The goal of any new streaming service worth its salt is consolidation. We’ve got a lot of major entertainment conglomerates now and each one of them needs a streaming home to consolidate its content on. With that in mind, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max is undoubtedly the biggest streaming release since Disney+ last year.

When AT&T acquired Time Warner and all its holdings in 2016, the newly-branded WarnerMedia subsidiary needed a place to house thousands of Warner movies, and other series, films, and documentaries from Warner-branded studios like CNN, TNT, TBS, The CW, Adult Swim, and much more. Enter HBO Max. Though HBO Max is named after Warner’s original premier streaming and cable entity in HBO, this is much more than just an “upgraded” version of HBO. HBO Max is the juggernaut WarnerMedia streaming service AT&T promised.

HBO Max will launch with well over 10,000 hours of content per HBO...

What’s Coming to HBO Max: Shows, Movies Announced for WarnerMedia Streaming Service (So Far)
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer in Friends (1994)
WarnerMedia is diving full-bore into the streaming wars with HBO Max — a subscription service slated to bow next spring, stocked with HBO programming, original series, Warner Bros. movies and library content including the full 10-season run of “Friends.”

There’s no pricing info yet for HBO Max, nor is it fully clear how much content from HBO will be included in the subscription VOD package. Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Finalist ‘The Minutes’ Sets Broadway Debut With ‘August: Osage County’ Director
Tracy Letts
The Minutes, a 2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist by Tracy Letts, will make its Broadway premiere next February, reuniting the playwright with his August: Osage County director Anna D. Shapiro, producers Jeffrey Richards and Steve Traxler announced today.

Shapiro, who won the 2008 Tony Award for her direction of Letts’ August, directed the premiere production of The Minutes at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre in 2017. The 90-minute play features a cast of eleven actors. The Chicago cast included Kevin Anderson, William Petersen, Ian Barford, Francis Guinan and Sally Murphy.

The producers described the play as a “brisk, scathing new comedy about small-town politics and real-world power. Full of chicanery, back-stabbing, manipulation and perhaps some mistruths, the play refracts the current state of America and our politics through a town meeting in the very small fictional city of Big Cherry.”

Production dates, casting, design team and Broadway venue will be announced later this year. In...

Julia Roberts' classic thriller to get a remake
Hollywood star Julia Roberts' classic movie Sleeping With The Enemy is set to be remade. The 1991 thriller stars the actress as a desperate woman who fakes her own death to escape her abusive husband. Now, 28 years later, studio officials at Fox Searchlight Pictures are working on a modern version of the same story, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Rising moviemaker Nia DaCosta has been tapped to write and direct the project, which will be developed by The Iron Lady producer Damian Jones, as part of his new Fox deal, according to Deadline.com.

Further details about the movie revamp are yet to be announced.

DaCosta made her feature film directorial debut with last year's Little Woods, a drama starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James as estranged sisters who are driven to extremes.

The original Sleeping With The Enemy release, which also featured actors Patrick Bergin and Kevin Anderson, was a hit for filmmaker Joseph Ruben.

Sleeping with the Enemy Remake Is Happening with Little Woods Director
Julia Roberts at an event for La Guerre selon Charlie Wilson (2007)
Apparently there will always be movies to remake, even as we start to enter an era when everything has already been remade. Next up for a redo is the Julia Roberts 1991 thriller Sleeping with the Enemy, which was a modest hit and followed in the wake of Pretty Woman. It will be reimagined for modern audiences.

UK producer Damian Jones is behind this new iteration. The original followed an abused woman named Laura Burney. After faking her death in order to flee from her violent husband, Martin (Patrick Bergin), Laura (Julia Roberts) leaves Cape Cod and moves to Iowa, where she adopts a new identity and starts dating a local teacher, Ben Woodward (Kevin Anderson). Martin, meanwhile, unearths evidence suggesting that she isn't dead, and when her mother confirms this, he tracks her to Iowa. He finds Laura and Ben and confronts them, forcing her to fight for her life once again.

Wimbledon Announces New Rule to Eliminate Marathon Matches
Wimbledon announced a new policy for its 2019 tournament to prevent marathon matches such as this year’s epic six-hour-plus semifinal duel between John Isner and Kevin Anderson.

There will now be a final-set tie-break that will only kick in when the score reaches 12-12, the All England Lawn Tennis Club said in a statement on its website Friday.

The decision comes in the wake of Isner and Anderson’s seemingly never-ending six-hour-36-minute match last June. Top 10 Most Expensive Tennis Rackets in the World
Majority of tennis rackets are manufactured in Asia with Japan as the leading country in tennis racket production. The best types are those that have no strings because professional players prefer to have a choice on the strings to use it with. A tennis racket played by adults weigh 12.5 ounces while those children use weigh 6 ounces.

Wooden rackets weighed an average of 350 grams and were used from the 15th century until 1965. Professional players preferred them to steel frame rackets, not knowing that the latter was much more superior.

10. Dunlop Srixon Revo Cx

This is a tennis racket from Dunlop which is endorsed by Kevin Anderson. Kevin Anderson is a South African professional tennis player who is currently the world number 7. The racket fits perfectly into his gameplay with his need for control precision the Srixon delivers just that.

The Cx has a 95 square inches head size that does not provide much room for error.

Tom Holland Creeps On Benedict Cumberbatch And Tom Hiddleston At Wimbledon
It’s a weird quirk of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that a bunch of the stars of this all-American franchise are actually as British as they come.

For instance, two of the newest and most popular additions to the Avengers’ line-up, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, are played by two Englishmen in Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch, respectively. Meanwhile, one of the franchise’s longest mainstays, Loki, is portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.

So, naturally, when the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final between Kevin Anderson and Novak Djokovic came around this weekend, the three acted like good Brits and went to see the game. Though they went separately, Holland couldn’t resist sharing the fact that he also spotted Hiddleston in the crowd.

Best Actress Nominee Jessica Chastain: The Hollywood Flashback Interview
In May of 2006, I sat down with actress Jessica Chastain, then an unknown and untested 29 year-old who was on the precipice of her first big break after being tapped by Al Pacino to co-star in his stage production of Oscar Wilde's "Salome" at the Wadsworth Theater. Then as now, Chastain's fresh-faced beauty made every passerby do a double-take as we spoke. Her ambition to succeed as a performer was palpable, and paid off in 2011 with Chastain appearing in six high-profile films: "Take Shelter," "The Tree of Life," "Coriolanus," "The Debt," "Texas Killing Fields," and "The Help," for which she received a Best Supporting Actress nomination. This year, Chastain received a nod in the Best Actress category for Katherine Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" and is the undisputed front-runner to take a statuette home.

DVD Review: Father’s Day
Father’S Day

Stars: Adam Brooks, Matthew Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Amy Groening, Garrett Hnatiuk, Brent Neale, Kevin Anderson, Meredith Sweeney, Zsuzsi | Written and Directed by Astron-6 (aka Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy, Steven Kostanski, Conor Sweeney)

For people who remember older Troma movies like The Toxic Avenger they will remember that they were pretty gory. Kids were run over then got their heads squashed under car wheels, hell the violence and gore was at a high level, but the most important thing was they had a sense of humour. A lot of horror films don’t go for that sense of humour now, some may say we have lost that element of horror that we just aim for the gore and forget what fun horror can be. In ways that is true, but then came Father’s Day.

Troma's Father's Day Looks at Family Matters: A Movie Review
*a screener of this film was provided by Troma Entertainment.

Directors: Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy, and Conor Sweeney.

Writers: Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy and Steven Kostanski.

Cast: Astron-6: Adam Brooks, Matthew Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Amy Groening, Garrett Hnatiuk, Brent Neale, Kevin Anderson, Meredith Sweeney, Zsuzsi, and Lloyd Kaufman.

Troma Entertainment is well known for its range of B movie craziness, and the schlock produced in Father's Day is different than their usual fare. It tries to be serious before slapping viewers with comedy. This film marks the debut of Astron-6, a new collective of filmmakers who quite enjoy stamping a grindhouse style onto their premiere product.

Although this tradition dates back to the days of early modern burlesque, the 30's and 70's vibe is replaced with more of the 80's style nostalgia. Here, Ahab (Adam Brooks) is out on a quest for revenge. He's after...

Pictures of Pippa Middleton in London
Andy Roddick
Pippa Middleton covered up her trendy Summer eyelet dress with a denim jacket in London today. She headed out to watch Andy Roddick beat South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the Aegon Tennis Championships. Pippa seems to love sitting court side, as she was also in Paris last month for the French Open. Pippa's been in the spotlight since her sister's gorgeous wedding to Prince William in April, and she returned to the Goring Hotel, where she and Kate stayed before the big day, for a party with her parents Carole and Michael on Tuesday. Kate didn't join her family at the event, since she's been busy prepping for another public appearance with her husband. The annual Ark dinner is this evening, and Kate Middleton went to the Lock & Co. hat makers in a fuchsia dress this morning as she ran some last-minute errands. View Slideshow ›...
