After a premiere at the SXSW Film Festival last month, Ned Benson’s romantic drama The Greatest Hits is making its way to streaming on Hulu. The film, a love story with a unique sci-fi twist, is a crowd-pleasing charmer, and much of that is thanks to its stars, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy).

Ned Benson’s sophomore feature, The Greatest Hits, is a romantic drama following a young woman who travels back in time anytime she hears a song to the last time and place she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a charming film with an incredible soundtrack that will delight any musicophile, not that you would expect any less.

We at FandomWire spoke with Benson and the film’s composer, Ryan Lott (frontman of Son Lux and Oscar nominee for his work on Everything Everywhere All at Once), about their work on the film. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.

Writer/director Ned Benson captivated audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and beyond in 2014 with his astute, intimate look at a relationship torn apart by tragedy. Although The Greatest Hits technically marks Benson’s sophomore feature as writer/director, in a way, it’s also his fourth.

The romance genre is rare in that even the most conventional films can land extremely well. Somewhat fittingly titled, The Greatest Hits feels like an amalgamation of all the familiar beats of the romance genre. Nevertheless, writer-director Ned Benson and his cast infuse the movie with so much charm and humanity that the result is something incredibly charming and very special.

In the film, Lucy Boynton plays a woman with a mysterious affliction: every time she hears a certain song, she is literally transported back in time to the last time she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a high-concept blend of sci-fi and romance, and while it goes through a lot of conventional motions, it’s consistently lovable.

The characters’ arcs play out in pretty much the exact way you would expect. The protagonist has to learn to love again after being hurt by tragedy, and she finds a handsome,...

The 95th Academy Awards are less than two weeks away. The Oscars ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place Sunday, March 12. Ahead of Hollywood’s biggest night, you have ample time to catch up on the films you may have missed or need to re-watch at home.

“Top Gun: Maverick” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced Thursday.

The big acting winners included Colin Farrell taking the best actor prize for “The Banshees of Inisherin” after coming off the New York Film Critics Circle win earlier this month. Two NBR winners in the last 12 years have translated to Oscar winners — Casey Affleck for “Manchester by the Sea” (2016) and Will Smith for “King Richard” (2021). Be it Toronto or Cannes, Sundance or Afm, you’ll find the FilmNation founder in the throes of negotiations over pricing and marketing plans, schmoozing and working every angle to nail the best pact. Director Armando Iannucci, who worked with FilmNation on the upcoming “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” recalls seeing Basner in action after he presented the Charles Dickens adaptation to potential buyers at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival.

Kate Winslet is no stranger to taking on roles that require her to work in strenuous conditions.

A delightful new trailer for the upcoming comedy Wish I Was Here has come online.

Director Zach Braff’s follow-up to his indie breakout hit Garden State is the story of a thirtysomething man who finds himself at major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The Hollywood Reporter‘s Boyd van Hoeij called it, “A more mature work from actor-director-producer Zach Braff that feels like a Garden State for grown-ups.

HitFix‘s Drew McWeeny wrote, “this is the film that he took to Kickstarter, even as people complained about the idea of a millionaire asking people for hand-outs. Beyond that, though, hating “Garden State” has become a cottage industry. The only thing Braff could possibly do to counter all of the naysayers would be to make a genuinely great movie…. which, thankfully, is exactly what he did.

On Thursday, Nebraska received six Oscar nominations including Best Cinematography. Up until the 30th Academy Awards (1958), Best Cinematography was divided into two categories – Color and Black & White. According to AMPAS, the last entirely black-and-white film to win Best Picture was The Artist (2011). Prior to that, The Apartment (1960) held this distinction; Schindler’s List (1993) had some color elements.

One of the first decisions director Alexander Payne took in making Nebraska was to shoot the film in black and white.

He knew it would be a risk, but it was central to his vision of the story. “Visual style was my window into the picture,” he notes.

Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life Following numerous Us-based critics' citations, Emmanuel Lubezki's work on Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life has earned him the American Society of Cinematographers' Award at the Asc's 26th annual awards. The ceremony was held Sunday night at the Hollywood and Highland Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles. An Oscar nominee for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, The Tree of Life is a complex family drama starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. The film marked the second time the Mexican-born Lubezki took home the Asc Award; he had previously won for Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men (2006). An earlier Asc nomination for Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999) preceded Lubezki two victories. Additionally, Lubezki has been nominated for five Academy Awards. Besides his three Asc movies, he was also shortlisted for Cuarón's A Little Princess (1995) and Malick's The New World.

Clooney will be in the running for Alexander Payne's The Descendants, Dujardin for Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist, and Pitt for Bennett Miller's Moneyball. Clooney has already won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his sleazy U.S. spy/weapons dealer in Stephen Gaghan's Syriana (2005). In the acting categories, he was also nominated as Best Actor for Tony Gilroy's Michael Clayton (2007) and Jason Reitman's Up in the Air (2009). This year, Clooney's own Golden Globe-nominated political drama The Ides of March serves as further evidence of the actor-director's "worthiness." Laramie Eppler, Jessica Chastain, Hunter McCracken, The Tree of Life Terrence Malick's Cannes winner The Tree of Life, a "cosmic" family drama starring Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, and Sean Penn, topped the Online Film Critics Society's list of 2011 winners. The Tree of Life won five of its seven nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Chastain), Best Editing (Hank Corwin, Jay Rabinowitz, Daniel Rezende, Billy Weber, Mark Yoshikawa), and Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). No other film won more than one award.
