On the outside, the English-language debut of French director Marina de Van looks like a traditional supernatural thriller, complete with a requisite “creepy” kid, and mysterious telekinetic powers. On the inside, Dark Touch is a heartrendingly sad, unflinchingly intimate exploration of the trauma of abuse: a horror movie that draws its nightmares from the sordid, squalid corners of real life. While de Van is possibly best known for her 2002 art house self-cannibalism shocker In My Skin, her latest feature proves that her ability to viscerally assault and disturb audiences remains undeterred.
Set in a bleak, isolated Irish village, the film centers around eight year old Niamh (played by a mesmerizing Missy Keating). Niamh’s parents and younger brother are brutally killed after their home appears to turn on them when inanimate objects and innocuous furniture are possessed by a murderous, destructive rage. The haunting grace note in director Suri Krishnamma's psychological thriller Dark Tourist, written by Frank John Hughes, comes from Melanie Griffith in an exquisite performance as a waitress grieving a crushing loss—and who has the misfortune of crossing paths with a man slowly unraveling into a psychopath. Jim (Michael Cudlitz, of TV's Southland) is a security guard whose hobby is studying serial killers, and who spends his vacations mapping his way through their killing fields. Tourist follows him as he navigates the small town that gave birth to one such figure. In voiceover he reveals an empathy with his current antihero that is slowly revealed to be rooted in his own childhood traumas. As the film softly nods toward the visuals of David Fincher, H...

Why do we slow down to look at car accidents? Why do we put our hands in the moulded handprints of dead celebrities in Hollywood? Why are we obsessed with the lives of serial killers? There are the questions explored in Suri Krishnamma's chilling thriller Dark Tourist. With an incredible performance by Michael Cudlitz (from the TV show Southland), it is not an easy film to watch, but that is likely the intention. It is incredibly disturbing, not least because it asks the audience to question some of their own dark obsessions.Jim (Cudlitz) is a 'dark tourist', someone who visits homes/places connected with the dead. Though with Jim, is it perhaps a bit more macabre, as he takes his annual holiday from his security...

From director Suri Krishnamma and writer Frank John Hughes, the indie drama Dark Tourist tells the story of graveyard-shift security guard Jim Tahna (Michael Cudlitz), a man with an obsessive interest in serial killers. When he takes a road trip to a small Northern California town to delve into the world of 1960s serial murderer/arsonist Carl Marznap (Pruitt Taylor Vince), he has a chance encounter with a local waitress named Betsy (Melanie Griffith), who shows him that there are other possibilities in life. At the film’s press day, co-stars Michael Cudlitz and Melanie Griffith spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what attracted them to this project, what it was like to work together, how important trust is, especially when you’re shooting very intense scenes with each other, and what Pruitt Taylor Vince added to the mix. They also talked about what they look for in...

Always ensure that any risky situation is tested before putting actors in a potentially dangerous situation. This is the lesson director Suri Krishnamma (New Year.s Day, The Grief Tourist) took away from filming the thriller Bad Karma.
Set primarily on the Gold Coast, Bad Karma follows a reformed criminal played by Ray Liotta who is forced to confront his crime riddled past after it turns up unexpectedly in the form of a gun-toting Dominic Purcell.
Describing the film as a complex love story, Krishnamma said the relationship between the reformed criminal and his new girlfriend (Vanessa Gray) is what makes Bad Karma more than a simple psychological-thriller.
.I would describe it as a love story about a man and a woman where a man's past has returned to haunt him. He has a choice to either return to his old former criminal days or to embrace the new life...

'At my first audition, they asked me things like: How are you? It didn't seem hard enough'
What got you started?
An uncle I loved got me into Fred Astaire when I was young. We had a scratchy old album of the Top Hat musical. I'd pretend I could tap-dance and my uncle would say: "Go, Tara, go!"
What was your big breakthrough?
My first job: a film called Hear My Song. I was still at Drama Centre, an intense, method-based school in London, and after three years of that, I couldn't believe the audition. It involved things like people saying: "Hello, how are you?" It didn't seem hard enough.
Are women in theatre and film under excessive pressure to look good?

At the moment, “Breaking Bad” is one of my favorite television shows, due in part to the inspired performance from Bryan Cranston, who just snagged yet another Emmy for his efforts. Since I’m a pretty big Cranston fan, the idea of him starring in an indie feature that casts him as a man who is unnaturally obsessed with serial killers sounds particularly enticing. “The Grief Tourist”, which will be helmed by Suri Krishnamma and penned by “Band of Brothers” scribe Frank John Hughes, finds Cranston portraying an unstable individual who enjoys retracing the footsteps of some of the world’s most notorious serial killers. His adventures, however, soon land him in extremely hot water. Specifics are sketchy at the moment, but as soon as more information comes to light, I’ll be all over it. In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out “Breaking Bad”, I strongly recommend...

It's been a bloody great year for Bryan Cranston. A great few years in fact. While his Malcolm In The Middle co-stars have been flailing, shall we say, Cranston has been starring in an original hit show to huge critical acclaim, not to mention the three consecutive Emmy Best Actor awards which he can add to his CV.
But this isn't the only thing making Cranston smile at the moment. According to Empire, he has just signed on the dotted line, along with Michael Cudlitz (Band of Brothers), to star in Suri Krishnamma's indie flick The Grief Tourist. Aptly titled after the grief tourism phenomenon that sees people travelling to sites related to death or suffering, Cranston will play the lead role of a man obsessed with the workings of serial killers. So intrigued is he, in fact, by the way their minds work that he inevitably ends up thinking the same way.

If you watched the Emmy Awards the other night then you saw Bryan Cranston win his third consecutive Best Actor Emmy for is role in Breaking Bad, which is a well deserved win. He’s probably still celebrating his third straight Emmy win for Breaking Bad, but Bryan Cranston is keeping himself busy in between shooting seasons of the show. He, along with Michael Cudlitz, has just signed up to star in the indie thriller The Grief Tourist. Suri Krishnamma is behind the camera for the film, which follows a troubled man whose obsession is serial killers. He retraces their steps and starts becoming more and more like them until… Well, you can probably figure out the rest. There’s no word on a start date, but with Band of Brothers writer Frank John Hughes writing the script and Cranston in front of the camera, it should at least be something worth watching.Cranston has already finished his work on John Carter of Mars and is rumoured to be up for a role in fantasy romantic comedy London Fog.

Last night Bryan Cranston won the Best Actor in A Drama Series Emmy for the third year in a row. For those keeping score, that's one for every season the show has had. It has been announced via press release that Cranston, as well as Michael Cudlitz, have joined the cast of The Grief Tourist, directed by Suri Krishnamma. The roles are unspecified, but the lead character, Jim Tahana, has a habit of retracing the steps of serial killers, but soon the activity gets the better of him as "his dark obsession with past killers soon becomes his reality and leads viewers on a menacing and horrific journey inside...

Machete won't be the last time you see Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez working together. The two will be on screen in an indie called Skinny Dip that will likely be produced and co-directed by Trejo's son Gilbert Trejo. The other co-director will be Frankie Latina. What's the film about? The La Times offers that it would be " a revenge picture involving a young woman who kills a policeman." That's all we've got, but one could expect that Michelle Rodriguez would be the young woman. After the break, Bryan Cranston is fresh from his Emmy win with a new role. And then there's The Grief Tourist, which now boasts Bryan Cranson as well as Michael Cudlitz from Southland. One night with Eliza Dushku can solve all of your problems, physically and spiritually. That's the lesson Narnia star Ben Barnes learns in the trailer for Suri Krishnamma's Locked In, a thriller about... well, I'm not exactly sure what it's about. And like me, Meredith at io9 is positing that the answers lie in Ms. Dushku's naughty bits: "We're still not sure what Lester from The Wire is doing in it, but he seems to be some sort of spiritual guide that ferries spirits through Eliza's downstairs parts?"...

Indian-born spiritual guru Deepak Chopra is teaming up with Liquid Comics to adapt his graphic novel Beyond for the big screen.
The 63-year-old self-help expert and New Age practitioner is to pen the screenplay for the UK film production, which will be directed by Suri Krishnamma, reports Variety.
Beyond is described as a supernatural thriller about a businessman whose wife disappears while on a family holiday in India. His search for her is guided only by the sound of her cries for help from the ether.
Chopra said: 'Beyond is a story about reality being multi-dimensional and how we can take journeys to realms we never dreamed of by separating the veils that partition our minds."
The guru appeared as himself in comedy The Love Guru, which starred Mike Myers, Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake.

You know who Deepak Chopra is, right? He's the author who's into mind-body medicine, who publishes tons of self-help books, and who used to be a leader of the Transcendental Meditation movement. He also wrote a graphic novel a few years ago called Beyond, and now Variety reports that he will adapt the piece into a screenplay for Suri Krishnamma (Being Othello) to direct.
It's not just a graphic treatment of his teachings, but rather a supernatural thriller about a man whose wife disappears while on holiday in India. Deepak Chopra is best known for being a spiritual guru type – you might have caught him playing himself in The Love Guru, but if you didn’t, count yourself lucky you skipped that awful film – but he’s also become something of a comics creator. He starts a desperate search for her, guided by the sound of her voice from the ether.“This is a story about reality being multi-dimensional and how we can take journeys to realms we never dreamed of by separating the veils that partition our minds,” is how Chopra explains it. So last week the first tiny tidbits of news broke surrounding the Eliza Dushku thriller Valediction. Not a whole hell of a lot was known about the feature then, but oh what a difference a week can make!
MTV caught up with Dushku to get the dirt! I have to admit, judging from what she had to say, it's kind of debatable whether or not this actually is a horror film; what do you guys think?
From the site:
"It’s about this young couple and they have a 6-year-old daughter, seemingly in a coma, but [they learn] she’s actually alive and fully living out in her brain, but is just in this locked-in state,” Eliza explains. “So he’s trying to have his daughter wake up from this traumatic experience.”
