F1 Box Office: Brad Pitt’s Racing Drama Vs. Ant-Man Sequel’s $623 Million Benchmark ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

After F1 released in theaters, who would have thought that a Formula One racing drama could outpace a DC superhero movie, and that too a Superman reboot! The sports drama has now surpassed Superman’s $612.5 million worldwide haul, with the gap steadily widening. It remains to be seen which one of them will finally end up with the higher tally.

Currently, F1 ranks as the sixth-highest-grossing film...

This Forgotten DreamWorks Film With 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Only Murders in the Building' Stars Is a Galactic Streaming Hit
Image
Sandwiched between its big successes of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3, DreamWorks released a little sci-fi film in 2015 about an outcast alien and a little girl just trying to get Home. The sweet little film came packed with an otherworldly cast, headlined by the likes of Rihanna, The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons at the height of his powers, the great Steve Martin, and Jennifer Lopez fresh off of The Boy Next Door with 9-1-1's Ryan Guzman. Despite all the star power and a solid $386 million box office, though, it's mostly forgotten among the studio's larger catalog, especially considering the movies around it. Now, however, it's getting a chance to shine again on streaming, rising to #4 on Netflix's global charts and beating out some big names in Happy Gilmore 2 and Megamind.

Anyone counting down to the December 23, 2026 release date of Shrek 5 is going to have to hold out a few months longer. Shrek 5 was first announced in 2024, two years after the critically acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish teased a return to the kingdom of Far, Far Away.

Shrek 5 is a highly anticipated continuation of the record-breaking animated franchise, which produced four movies in nine years before seemingly ending for good. But, when the 2024 announcement promised the returns of franchise icons Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, plus newcomers like Zendaya, some found the news sweeter than true love’s first kiss.

'A Quiet Place 3' Finally Sets a Release Date and Confirms Director Return
Image
The next entry in the A Quiet Place film series will open in theaters for a summer 2027 release date, and original director John Krasinski is returning. A Quiet Place opened in April 2018 and became a surprise hit with critics and audiences, launching a new horror property for Paramount Pictures. The original 2018 film has blossomed into a full-blown franchise with a direct sequel in 2021, a prequel in 2024, and now a third entry set for release in 2027.

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has dated A Quiet Place Part III for a July 9, 2027, release date. Krasinski, who directed the first two films in the franchise, will return to helm the third installment. It is not clear if the original cast, including Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy, will reprise their roles from the previous two films. The year-to-date tally has now surpassed £639 million ($847 million) after 30 playweeks — running 15% ahead of 2024 and trailing just 1% behind 2023, the benchmark Barbenheimer summer.

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Overtakes J.J. Abrams’ Sci-Fi Reboot at the Domestic Box Office

Having entered the final stretch of its largely successful theatrical run, Universal's How to Train Your Dragon remake is aiming to surpass the $650 million milestone at the global box office before it taps out for good. Domestically, the hit film has already passed what will likely be its final milestone, $250 million. Produced on a reported budget of $150 million, which is on the lower end of the spectrum for a movie of its size, How to Train Your Dragon has been an unambiguously profitable venture for DreamWorks; the studio intends to follow in Pixar's footsteps and produce remakes of its greatest animated hits.

With $258 million at the domestic box office so far, How to Train Your Dragon has now overtaken the $257 million lifetime haul of director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, and the late Anton Yelchin, Star Trek...

In the last couple of years alone, Disney's The Little Mermaid and Snow White had a difficult time in theaters, raising questions about the audience's appetite for such films. As it turns out, they're perfectly fine with remakes, as long as the movies they're presented with aren't based on properties they don't feel deeply about. How to Train Your Dragonis all set to soar past the $600 million milestone at the global box office this weekend, and eventually even become the franchise's top-grossing installment. For now, however, it can take pride in passing a major franchise movie at the international box office.

How to Train Your Dragon has grossed $343 million in overseas markets, passing the $342 million overseas haul that Terminator Genisys ended its run with a decade ago. Directed by Alan Taylor, the movie grossed over $440 million globally,...

Image
Despite having been made available to watch at home, Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon remake continued pulling crowds to theaters even in its sixth weekend of release. The film is inching closer to the $600 million milestone, and will find itself in a tight race with How to Train Your Dragon 2 to become the franchise’s top-grossing installment. This weekend, it crossed the $250 million mark domestically, and approached the $350 million milestone at the international box office. And, in doing so, it overtook a handful of past blockbusters.

The film’s $338 million overseas haul puts it ahead of Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Travis Knight’s Bumblebee, the original Men in Black film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and also last year’s Venom: The Last Dance. Starring Tom Hardy and directed by the debutante Kelly Marcel, The Last Dance served as the final film of the anti-hero trilogy, which began...

It’s the second-highest-grossing installment of the fan-favorite franchise, having beaten the lifetime global haul of the original animated film, and the series' third installment. It now trails only How to Train Your Dragon 2, whose own remake is already slated for a 2027 release. The movie is inching closer to the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office, reestablishing the audience’s faith in live-action remakes of animated hits, after a string of big-budget films underperformed in recent years.

How To Train Your Dragon Box Office Hits Franchise-First Milestone Following VOD Release
Image
How to Train Your Dragon has hit a franchise-first box office milestone. The 2025 movie is a live-action remake of DreamWorks' 2010 movie of the same name. Helmed by original director Dean DeBlois, it follows young Viking Hiccup (Mason Thames) bonding with an injured dragon, which makes him question why he's being trained to slay them.

The How to Train Your Dragon release kicked off on June 13, taking No. 1 at the domestic box office during its opening weekend and becoming the first new release to topple the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake from its perch at the top of the chart.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, How to Train Your Dragon is projected to end its sixth weekend with a 3-day domestic total of $5.2 million. This gross, which the movie has earned in spite of the movie having premiered on video on demand the previous Monday, July 14, lands it at No. 6 with...

$565 Million Live-Action Remake Instantly Surges On VOD
Image
In the age of live-action remakes, one recent remake is now thriving on VOD services. In recent years, classic animated movies, which thrived in theaters for nearly a century, have given way to a new reality for studios. As Disney's many live-action remake successes have proven, audiences have a desire to see their childhood favorites in a more realistic style.

The trend began in earnest with Disney's 2010 release, Alice in Wonderland, which earned over $1 billion at the box office. Having realized the potential of these films, the studio quickly focused on making other remakes. These reimagined films included Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and The Lion King (2019), which earned over $1 billion each.

Unfortunately, there have been some live-action failures. Mulan (2020) and Disney's Snow White (2025) all proved to be box office disappointments, raising questions about the viability of live-action remakes in the post-covid box office landscape. While Lilo & Stitch (2025) dissuaded those concerns,...

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Beats Six Beloved Animated Blockbusters in One Weekend at the Global Box Office
Image
Having completed a full month of release in theaters worldwide, Universal's How to Train Your Dragon remake has firmly established itself as a hit. It wasn't a foregone conclusion, especially with a few other live-action remakes underperforming at the box office recently. One of them, Snow White, was an outright bomb, having grossed just over $200 million against a reported budget of over $250 million. Not only did How to Train Your Dragon cost less than that film, it has also generated over twice as much as it did globally. This weekend, it overtook as many as six beloved animated hits.

With $240 million domestically and $320 million from overseas markets, How to Train Your Dragon's cumulative global haul currently stands at $560 million. It reportedly cost $150 million to produce, which is relatively low for a tent pole of this magnitude. We must remember that the movie was always supposed to spawn sequels and...

The Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon Movie Fixed The One Issue The Director Had
Image
The great thing about being able to retell your own story is that you can fix your previous mistakes. In the case of 2025's "How to Train Your Dragon," director Dean DeBlois was able to revisit his 2010 animated classic in live-action, improving not only characters like Hiccup and Toothless but also certain plot points from the original film that never made sense to begin with.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his second go-around, DeBlois clarified how he could do damage control on a story that had remained untouched for 15 years. One particular example he brought up was a bit of a plot hole in the near-perfect original animated movie, in which the people of Berk deal with the fallout of Toothless bringing down the Red Death. As you may recall, the oversized Alpha swiftly turns the Vikings' ships to kindling after Stoick's (Gerard Butler) attack on the island housing the dragons' nest.
